Government retirement program has changed.
It is now the same as Medicare, with a 401K added.
Lost job due to offshore? Government program assistance
found this information in my husband's COBRA package. He is in the machining industry which has lost a lot of work to China. This program will help support during retraining and give a tax credit for health insurance premiums. Worth checking out. Don't be put off by how "complicated" the form is. Just do it one step at a time and call some of the numbers for help if need be.
Running a government women's health program has nothing to do with
The ability to make assessments WITH verbal input (women DO have the ability to communicate) is VERY necessary.

Maybe the former head of FEMA was a vet too. That would explain a lot.
I agree. MTIA is not a government organization. Credentialing comes from state government and

sometimes at the federal level.  This mandatory credentialing is ludicrous and a scheme to make money, in my humble opinion.

I have to agree with the other poster, if not having CMT after my name after 25 years of experience prevents me from being employable, I have a very good lawyer who will take up my cause!!!

The government giveth, and the government taketh away
Lori is correct...the SS does give the recipients a yearly raise. This year the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) was 3.3%. This sounds fine and dandy until you take inconsideration the monthly premium for Medicare was raised by 3.1%.

SE Medicare and SS are taken out, not fed tax.
I looked on the IRS website. You do get a SE W2 and then you can deduct business expenses to lower your fed tax, but you still are responsibile for fed tax yourself. I double checked at the IRS website.
Question about Medicare.

I hope I'm posting on the right board, but here it goes.  My elderly mother was in the hospital back in January and on Friday received a bill from a nephrologist who saw her briefly once and billed Medicare $375 for his in-hospital consultation.  Medicare paid them $15.68, they "wrote down" $240.40 and the supplementary paid $3.92, and now they are billing her $115.  This is the first time she has ever received a bill from anyone as her insurance has always paid.  I keep thinking that they have used a wrong CPT code for their billing as it is beyond me that Medicare would only pay $15.68 for an in-hospital consultation.  I will have to wrangle with these people tomorrow, but wanted to know if anyone had any opinions about this and feels like I do.  I don't think this is her deductible amount as she had seen many physicians before him seeing her in the hospital.  I know I will also have to call Medicare to see if in fact they are the ones that got their bill in first and this is in fact her yearly deductible, but as they say, knowledge is your best tool before someone tries to pull the "wool over your eyes."

yes..they are taking out for SS and Medicare...
a friend of mine said when she wasn't making that much money she had them withold an extra 10.00 for federal so i may have to do that...
Cuts in medicare and medicaid are about to take place
I have mentioned this but it was always deleted as I think the monitor thought I was talking politics.

There will be a marked decline in coverage for services to medicare and medicaid patients and I believe to offset this, medical facilities are finding ways to cut costs.

The cuts will be significant. You could do a Google search for Deficit Reduction Act. Radiology will be most severely hit, especially stand alone facilities.
Forgot to say this was for Medicare Supplemental Insurance (NM))
nm
Many physicians in my area don't want to take Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare
or other insurances because the insurance companies require a huge buydown of charges and then disallow quite a bit for being "above the reasonable amount."

For example, I had double insurance of Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Tricare when I had surgery. The bills totaled $15,000. Blue Cross knocked $5,000 off the physician's $7,800 bill, paid him $600 and left Tricare and me to deal with the $1,200 balance. Tricare wouldn't pay because they disallowed the amount as unreasonable, the physician's office forced me to make payments on it, and I had to fight just so I didn't owe them another $1,200. It was ridiculous that I had double insurance coverage and wound up owing anything. Meanwhile, the doctor didn't even get paid that much, and he did my presurgery appointments, the actual surgery, two postsurgery appointments to remove hardware, plus coordinating everything between cardiology, radiology, anesthesia, laboratory, surgery, and having special equipment trucked in from out of state.

If I had not had insurance at all, I would have had to pay the entire amount. I think it's crazy that noninsureds have to pay the full amount but insurance companies can disallow or buy down the amounts due. Anyway, you hit a big rant of mine. Shortly after I lost my Blue Cross coverage, my son needed to be seen but we couldn't find a provider to even take Tricare at all. So much for my husband serving his country and being away from his family in the line of duty. The doctors get rich and refuse to treat military personnel who fight for their freedom. Talk about a total lack of appreciation.
Your national is liable for SS and Medicare tax not you. They thinkyou are self employed. nm
:
I've actually found Medicare very easy to deal with...
wouldn't dread the call. It will probably go better with Medicare than with the nephrologist.
Will I not get paid if the hospital isn't reimbursed with Medicare/Medicaid?
I was told by a coworker that California is in so much debt that I may not get a paycheck if CA goes bankrupt because the hospital I work for will not be getting subsidized any longer....

could this be true?
got screwed
First I was with MQ, and I think that explains itself, left there went to radiology co, who gave the department the heaveho for VR (nice severance package though), then went into office, pulled transcription and acted as backup, way overqualified and missed being at home, now am working backup for 2 companies, one of which everybody loves, but the owner hates me and bust me down to 7.5 cents per line fr 10 cents per line because I was not keeping up with 5000 lines weekly. EVERYBODY loves the quality of my work though, no where to go but on my own. Thanks
How did you get screwed
Just wondering how you got screwed? I run an MTSO and I am always wanting to know what MT's like and don't like. What company do you work for?

Terry
screwed
My answers tell me that I am screwed if I lose my job.  NOOOOOO!!!!
Yes, you're cranky. The docs may be instructed to do so to appease Medicare or other such entity.

Medicare is offering free installation of EMR to physicians and hospitals.

This board is all screwed up..sm
I can't read the beginnings of posts because it is going into the blue part on the left hand side.  Can someone fix it?
Most newbies ARE screwed.
I personally know two people, one of whom I mentored through her training program, who could get jobs in the field. No one would let them get a foot in the door. So I understand that frustration from that point of view, because these people have had to count their training money as a loss and go on to other things. I was so sad for them, and angry at the penny-pinching MT profession as it is today, which has few opportunities for in-house training for new people to learn what they need to know to succeed.

I think a lot of the bitterness you sense is really toward the big companies and the direction that the profession has taken. There is no place anymore for newbies to learn and "pay their dues" the way many of us had to do it.

I also agree with the poster below who said this is something that is in EVERY profession nowadays. My own father was pretty well forced into retirement, and yet they had the nerve to call him afterwards trying to pick his brain because his successor, half his age, couldn't figure something out. (He informed them of his consultant rate, take it or leave it.) As the other poster said, you find it in teaching and other professions, as well.
Man you are getting screwed. What a slap in the
face that is.  Even though none of us are probably making any more than we did 10 years ago (taking into account cost of living) that is just an insult.  Glad you are leaving.
I got screwed - and the management was not the greatest - sm
I just didn't feel like I was part of the team... and I do like to feel that way...  my opinion...  not to mention I got screwed when I decided to move on to another company... I never got reimbursed for my internet services, they tried to make me PAY for a computer that I never needed and never received (mine was the right format), AND they tried to say that I owed for a footpedal - which I had already purchased one two years before working with them - not worth the bother really....   I would recommend OSi or DSC
you screwed up and you know it. you missed the point and you know it.
the jokes on you. hey i'm am more than happy to have the router give you the hard stuff. whatever. i got bills to pay and when they route crap to you, i keep the good stuff.
HELP. My husband screwed up my toolbar
how do i get it back down where it used to be?  The start menu, etc.
The point is that HE screwed up, and he will have to pay for his actions. nm

People are screwed up in this world. Too many
people think the govt should take care of their every need. Got my subscription of people magazine yesterday and reading the stories of the survivors. A lot were very said but on the first page of the article there is a picture of a boat filled with people that were rescued from their submerged houses. What is in that picture? In the bottom right corner, a woman in a wheelchair holding a Budweiser beer. If my house was under water and I'm screaming for help the last thing I would want to grab is my beer. My pictures, my important papers maybe but not my warm beer. This hurricane is making me mad so I have to stop watching the news. Saw a guy on the news the other day who said the govt better give them the same big checks that the 9-11 people got. Ok, changing subject now and going to watch nick at night before I get mad over this subject again.
Turn it over and see if the screws are screwed in.
and then and then I have trouble with it - but I can't say that it's stopped working COMPLETELY before from that.
Screwed up Medical Records
My sister went to the hospital after a car accident and was there for about a week. I told her to get her medical records because things had been such a mess while she was there - she had someone else's x-ray reports - reports of things she never had done - part of her H&P and part of someone else's - and just plain sloppiness and incorrect information all through her chart. And then they charge us for our MR. I have in the past gone and paid over $200 for my records and then promptly gone to the bank and stopped payment on the check - it was worth the $15 stop payment fee but not the $200.
Toth screwed me too years ago
I am terribly sorry to hear they are still at it. I worked for Toth for about the same amount of time as you had and they screwed me out of the time plus over $1,000.00 in pay. I never saw a penny of it. I tried to have the shut down. I presented a ton of evidence to Labor & Industry, as well as the A. General, but with no luck. L & I said I had a case, but because I was IC they didn't handle it. Told me to get a lawyer. Lawyer told me, I had a case but probably would only come out with 1/2 of what they owed me minus fees from court costs ect. I cannot believe they are still pulling this same scam. Are you a newbie? Toth was my first job. What a mistake.
What screwed us was the fact that our work - sm
is the only one of those three fields that can be offshored. Nursing can't because the physical presence of the nurse is needed. And the same for court reporters. I would be very interested to know if any of the court steno-notes are outsourced to be transcribed, or if the CR does it herself. If they cn be outsourced, I wonder if it's legal for any of it to go offshore. My bet would be a resounding NO. And I'm also willing to bet that even if the CR can hire someone to transcribe her court notes, that there re very strict rules about where that information can go. That's why I'm adamant about plugging that huge leak of America's confidential medical information. Not only because it's morally wrong to offshore it when Americans need the work, and because of identity theft, but also because of ech medical report's potential as a court record. Someone, somewhere, needs to be made aware of that. Maybe it's time to start talking to people involved in the court system, to get their feedback on that issue.

Comcast is apparently all screwed up across the board.
I have been having trouble with accessing some websites, but not all. My clients are having the same trouble so it would seem that Comcast has a major problem on their hands across the land. As an FYI, I'm located in PA. What about the rest of you?
Medication question

Hello,

I am trying to figure out a medication and it sounds like chromagin, cromagin, or something like that.  Has anyone heard of that?  It is to be taken three times daily...Thanks!!!

Medication website
Anyone know of a good site to go to for a list of medications?  Thanks!
Do you take any kind of medication sm
before you start work? Don't mean to be nosy but in my case, I work 6a-2p.  I take my blood pressure medication at 5:30a. By 7:00-8:00, I am ready for bed and literally fall asleep at my desk. I take my break from 8:45 to 9:30, come back and I am fine. Doc said my medicine "peaks" at that time then the level falls off.  Asked him to change it and he refuses to, said if it works then why try another. I have tried taking it at different times a day, but it really works the best at 5:30. So, I am stuck. Have you tried turning on the radio or tv or even opening a window?  Sometimes that helps for me.
Looking for a medication website
I used to have a link to a website that if you only knew three letters to the medication it would give you options. My computer had since crashed and I lost that website and cannot find it. A lot of times I can hear only a few syllables of the med they are saying. Does anyone know a website that you can put a partial part in and get choices?
Has anyone heard of "chlorophen" as a medication?

Rebound headaches are from medication
in pain, you may use the meds too often. The theory behind the rebound headache is that the overuse of drugs makes the headache rebound after your body uses all of the medication. An OTC drug or a Rx that is taken too often causes an episode where your brain gets relief from the pain, likes the effect, and then signals "pain" in its search for more of the drug, and you increase dosages to get more relief. Your medication becomes less and less effective and you create a cycle of misery. (This is adapted from the website, "Migraines for Dummies" (even though I don't have migraines.) It's the best explanation I have found on the web for rebound HA. I just want relief.
You truly have some anger problems. Maybe you should look into medication for yourself.

pain medication s/p arthoplasty
Pain medication is usually required for approximately 2-4 weeks s/p total arthroplasty. However, each patient's need is individualized. Oxycontin is the drug of choice for chronic pain management.
Do you take blood pressure medication? sm
They can make you extremely tired, too. I take Toprol XL and have for 13 years. It peaks about 3 hours after I take it I have trouble staying awake at the PC from 6 am to about 10:30 am. I literally fall asleep with fingers right on the keyboard. It was so bad that I finally changed to the afternoon shift. I asked my doc about it and he said try taking it at night. Well, that brought on the headaches I was trying to avoid. He said to take 1/2 in the a.m. and 1/2 in the p.m. No dice, still had headaches. He won't change my pills, says if it isn't broke, don't try to fix it. He wants to keep my pressure on the low side. My only solution was changing shifts and now I don't fall asleep at the keyboard anymore. I can get 10 hours of sleep at night but still fall asleep about 3 hours after taking that medication. I'm fine if I am up and about and doing things but sitting at the keyboard is another story.
I beg to differ - not all kids need medication....sm
Many with ADD/ADHD can learn just fine without medication as long as you break the tasks into smaller segments and implement visual aides.

No drug is completely safe. They all have chemicals in them. Ritalin, which you mentioned, caused my nephew to have growth retardation while he was on it and it was only after he came off that stuff that he started growing.

It's not the media afraid of drugging kids. There are many of us out there that don't believe that drugging a child is the correct answer. Sure there are kids that really need it if they can't stay focused at all, but asking a child to stay focused for an hour or more without a break when they're say 7 years old is extreme, especially if they're able to learn the same information if it's broken down into 3 20 minute sessions in the day.

Kids are now being pushed to learn more at a rate that for some of them taxes where their maturity levels are, and this can aggravate things like ADD/ADHD, especially when they don't have the recess breaks at school to give them a diversion from the classroom for a while. I'm glad that in my state some of the school systems have started mandating recess again - and those schools test scores have improved.
Can some one help with medication list format?
if a doctor transcribes a medication as Actose 45 mg q.d do you transcribe it as Actose 45 mg daily?
