Try to be less negative? There is only negative here. It is a depressing way to start the day but

HIM degree here too...sm
I have spent 14 years of my life going bankrupt because of transcription. I can't wait to get out of this profession. I have never, in my whole 43 years on this planet, seen a more fraudulent, lying, scheming profession as medical transcription. I can't wait to be with people every day again. I can't wait to wear nice clothes. I CAN'T WAIT TO EARN A DECENT PAYCHECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What degree do you hold?
I hold a bachelors in psychology and I wouldn't trade my education for anything. By the way, I've left MT and now have a great career in a completely different field thanks to my bachelor's degree. I'm now working towards my masters.
I think they ALL overstaff to a certain degree.
Some, of course, are way, way worse.
I have degree plus some post bac

college degree?
Since when does a Transcriptionist have a college degree? It is not considered a college degree - it is a diploma or a certificate program.

I am very happy at present with my job as a MT. I do wish that I made more money than I did 16 years ago when I started, but I still make more than many college degree people. I am one of the people that spent the last year complaining about my income and you know what - in the last 3 months I sat down and took a good look at what I was doing and realized that a lot of my low income times were my own fault - how much time was I spending on this board, how much time was I spending walking to the laundry room, turning the TV, listening to the radio, fixing lunch for my family? I finally got me a timer and set it for an hour and work my hour instead of getting up and guess what? I consistently make $35-40 an hour - that is not cherry picking my reports, that is taking first in/first out as they come to me from the company I work for. I don't have a small clinic that I get the same doctors over and over, I work on a hospital account and have a lot of doctors and on top of that, I have only been on this job for 3 months so I am not used to these doctors by any means.

Anyway, I understand that we should have higher wages, I understand that we should be upset because our line rates are not going up and seem to be going down, but we cannot say that this profession is not a financially rewarding position if you are willing to work for it.

Where else can I go with a 1-year DIPLOMA and make $40 an hour? Then you add into the fact that yes, my power bill and internet bill is there for me to have to pay, but I am not putting gas in my car at $2.78 a gallon and driving 30 miles one way to an office, that I am not having to eat my lunch out every day, that I don't spend that extra 45 minutes to an hour driving each way every day that I don't get paid for - yes, I think we are still in a financially rewarding career!
Why, if you have master's degree, etc.
are you doing transcription? Hmm, let me guess- so you can stay home with the kids?
I AM SO GLAD I got a degree is something else
and then went on to do MT while I was raising my kids. Falling back on the first degree now, something that took 5 years of college. I'm a bit sad to see MT go, but today I got news that my co. is putting us to voice recognition with a 3CPL pay, and I just can't do it.

Good luck.
I have NEVER been micro-managed to that degree.

But I also get my lines plus every shift.  This could make a difference.  If they feel someone is not doing their job because they are not meeting productivity, they might be watching that individual.

I have never been told that I could not sign off more than once during my shift.  If something comes up and I need to do it, I just IM my Editor or send an e-mail to management.

This is exactly why I told a poster earlier to get her degree! nm

I am 40 and just started working on a master's degree and
a certificate in medical coding at the same time. I plan to get my doctorate degree also. It is never too late to learn. Go for it!
Yes my college degree is worth more than $11 an hour.

I have an A.A. degree in English from a 'real' college that
Sounds like AHDI ('All Hindi-speaking Dufuses International') is just trying to find another way to lure MTs into wasting their money on their ridiculous 'credential'.

And if they did elevate the credential to the equivalent of a degree, then they'd have to also acknowledge that MTs be PAID as 'professionals', as well.

I laugh every time I read something that group generates - it gets more ridiculous every year, doesn't it?
after all the negativity about MQ and them having-sm
their own board to vent and all, how was I supposed to know it was not sarcastic. You did not elaborate at all. I love eating feet though...lol. sheesh. get mad over something worthwhile.
negativity

Well this will probably raise some hackles....but here goes.

I have never seen so much negativity towards other colleges, as I have seen on this message board.  That is a shame.  Yes everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it just seems like there are alot of you that want to post nothing but negative posts/replys.

NOW watch how many critics there are about THIS post!!

So much negativity
Let's give it a chance; no one has a crystal ball to have guaranteed bad outcome.
NEGATIVITY!!!

I really feel everyone should calm down and see how it goes.  Being negative is helping a thing.  I truly do not believe for one second that Dorothy so called SOLD US OUT.  Has anyone here ever owned a transcription THE SIZE OF MDI with the same volume of accounts and had to continue to make the customer happy and keep every single MT at the same?  MDI is doing their BEST with the situation this economy is in and doing their best to maintain accounts so that we CAN make an income.

I dont think its really fair to bash D or CB on here PERIOD.  If your not happy with the partnership, then just quietly move on.  There is no need to be saying Dorothy sold us out and negative comments like her pillow is stuffed with fat stacks of cash, and calling CB the QUEEN now.

Its all unnecessary and its NOT going to increase your line count.

Most of the people on here posting negative comments aren't even using their real names.  I just wonder how Dorothy would feel if she could see who was really being so critical of a CHANGE that hasn't even completely evolved yet.

You hit the nail on the head. No "average" joe is going to go to that degree of applauding the
Good call..
The negativity expressed on MT
boards is one thing that really made me question if MT was right for me.  Luckily, I persevered despite the negativity and have found that I love MT work. You might try going to a local AHDI meeting if there is one near you.  I have found MTs to be much more considerate and helpful and positive in person.
Don't be afraid of the negativity...
Facts are facts, and it's useful. You don't have to like it but can still use what you read. Things tend to get witchy here sometimes, but I gotta say were it not for this board and the freedom we have here of saying what we feel and reading both sides, I'd not have been able to make a halfway intelligent quick decision between two companies. I was set to sign on with a place everybody was praising highly a few months ago which now apparently is going the route of the place I just left, i.e., down the tubes. I used this board, made personal email contact with several people (very valuable) and very quickly picked a place where hopefully I can quit worrying for awhile at least (but who knows? I'll never truly feel secure jobwise again, but it's been a good wake up call). The info I continue to get here has been invaluable to me. You have to know how to use information you're presented with and take what you can from it in any situation. By the way, I also learned that you cannot necessarily believe everything a recruiter will tell you no matter how nice that person is or how intelligent you think your questions are. It can be a different story once you've signed on with the company.
Thanks for all the negativity posted about this job. sm
It made it easier for me to obtain this gravy train account. I would rather take 0.06 cpl GROSS LINE any day over 0.07 or 0.08 cpl 65-character line. With that said, I would also rather take 0.07 cpl or 0.08 cpl over 10 cpl any day if I could have the same, repetitive dictator daily versus 500+ dictators, easily type in Word and no time consuming platform to learn. Wake up people and quit being followers. Judge companies and pay for yourself and decide what you need to earn money and survive. Not what your fellow MT complains about. I suspect those complaining are the ones not making much money.
Reasons for negativity.
MDI has been my dream transcription job/company to work for....having this job is the reason I got into transcription.  After having worked for the large national companies and finally being able to get on with MDI, I thought this is it for me, I found the perfect place to be for me........Those of us that have worked for other companies that have done this same thing, been there, done that, repeating the cycle. I guess I was naive to think it would be different with MDI.
Stamp out this Negativity against MDI
I really feel everyone should calm down and see how it goes. Being negative is helping a thing. I truly do not believe for one second that Dorothy so called SOLD US OUT. The negativity is warranted. SM
Since when have you heard of any buyout that made things better for the MT? None. I worked for Transhealth, which was bought by Webmedx. Two years later (almost), it has not been better for us. More management, the use of a time clock, horrible accounts, low work. Never had this at Transhealth.
I'm sure many postings are shaded by negativity but
If I see something that goes into great detail describing a negative experience, not getting paid, bad management with a pretty good explanation why, etc. I steer clear of that company. No one could be making some of this stuff up.
I was offered a job with DSG and it seems a lot of negativity on here. Is anyone happy there and
do all the accounts have this bad sound I hear so much about.  Since they use DQS if they are rerecording from another sound file they will get a very bad sound from that.  I do know that but you wouldnt think their own accounts would have that same bad sound.
It's not the negativity of the poster, it is what the MTSO posted.

It doesn't show the MTSO in a very good light.

Not sure why the negativity and sarcasm ... kinda sounds like the old

lover scorned thing ... LOL.   No company can probably say that it never runs out of work, but I have 2 accounts, and have only had to go to my secondary account maybe 10 times in the almost 1 year I have been there now.  At least the management team at TT cares.  I have worked for companies where I ran out of work, and the response I got was a laugh and just take the day off.   At least TT will get you another account.

As far as your remark alluding to the fact that if we were so busy working, we wouldn't be here -- do you work 24/7?  Also, TT is not a sweatshop.  We are allowed breaks.

Maybe you had a bad experience with them.  No company is a great fit for everyone, that's for sure.  I have seen people rave about companies on here, tried them myself, and thought YUCK.

It is only 6 am and my shift doesn't start until 4p, but I guess I shouldn't be posting here since apparently it implies that TT has no work ... LOL.

Its why people complain about negativity on this board
Some people want to think that the people posting negative things here are just malcontents.  Sometimes, when a person speaks the truth, half a dozen other folks jump on to say its not the truth and everything is roses and rainbows.  Usually the truth is somewhere in the middle.  But some people would prefer to believe the sunshine being blown you-know-where by recruiters because they want to think they have lucked into a goldmine.  Well, its a crap shoot - maybe you did and maybe you didn't.  Each person's truth is going to hit them only after they are working the account.  So if she only wants to hear about the rainbows, let her have her fantasy.  Reality will come soon enough when she gets no paycheck.  Then she can pay her bills with all the rainbows.
Wow, some just aren't happy unless there's negativity and drama abounding.

Just because Stephanie is eloquent and not spouting negativity doesn't mean she isn't an MT.
She is just an MT who doesn't subscribe to your doom and gloom attitudes.
Yes, I am aware of it. sm
I struggled and struggled when I first discovered my company was offshoring, but then I realized that I have bills to pay and a family to feed; which comes first for me. I cannot afford to just give up 5 years with a company and start over with new docs, new accounts, etc. It was taken a little while, but in all honesty, the work that I edit from India is pretty good. There are a few things that still throw them for a loop, but for the most part, they are not as bad as you would think! I actually do way better doing editing/QA than I did transcribing, so this is where I stay.
(from above), as they must be aware of them by now.
x
I'm an IC with DSG - now aware they do this.
//
sorry - s/b noT aware they do this.
//
I was not aware FN had VR
do you mean Voice Recognition or were you doing QA???
I am aware of them
because I almost took a job with them, and I'm glad I didn't. What I hear is never good. If you Google I'm sure you will see discussions about them from this site.
no VR at all as far as I'm aware (nm)
x
Please be aware that...
they have more VR editing jobs than straight transcription, for which you will not earn enough to buy groceries...the pay for editing is very low no matter where you work.
Yes, I'm well aware of that...
If you took the time to read my post, I said that there are others who make more.  You are the one who has such a difficult time believing it, not me.
Yes, I am aware
That's why I was hoping to find someplace that kinda paid as you go. Someday when I've hit the lotto it might be an intriguing business concept- a true on-call perdiem type service. Until then, though, I guess I'll just have to learn to drink my coffee black and thrive on Cocoa Wheats and Ramen Noodles.
Are you not aware of the

unemployment numbers climbing as we speak?  Getting into a new field even if you have the right education is no piece of cake in this job market.  You are damned if you do and damned if you don't.

The reason people try to stay with MT is because if you have years of experience and the education, the health care field is one that is relatively recession/depression proof.  To go out on a limb at this time and try to get into a new field/job is highly risky. Who is to say even if you do manage to get the right education that you would be able to get your foot in the door with no experience under your belt?  Then, how are you going to pay off your education debt?  That is what a lot of college grads are facing today.

A lot of the MTSOs are highly mismanaged these days.  The left arm does not know what the right arm is doing and in many instances very talented MTs with years of experience, dedication and devotion to this industry are finding it a sticky mess and are jumping ship early lest they get mired into madness.  That does not mean they are not looking elsewhere and darn well should.

So please let's not knock our fellow brethern when they complain about what they are going through making a living in this industry.  Let's all be empathetic and listen and try to empower rather than put down.  There is no job in America these days that is a anything to right home about.  If people say they love their jobs and are making gobs of money, you might ask them what planet they are living on.  We don't need to hear the tough love approach at this time.  This is a serious business and it is being seriously mismanaged and a lot of MTs are unduly suffering due to the callous and thoughtless approach of the powers that be.

Thank you. We do not pay for spaces, and we are aware of all the
very very good arguments about it. We feel our line is a true 65 char line, unlike some other services, we pay for headers, footers and everything on the page, and we have volume bonuses, we reimburse for flat rate phone plans, have bonus days off for volume, have given a raise, some small, some better, every year since we began 7+ years ago, and always have work. We try to fit people to the type of work they like, ops, discharges, internet, lanier, acute care, etc. We give high volume producers a few accounts daily so they don't run out of work, and lower producers just one, or perhaps two if they wish for insurance. We don't jerk you around acct to acct daily like I've read on this board of other services, we have a wonderful QA staff and support for all new people, growing every year so no one is cut short. We have almost all the original MTs who came with us when we started, and we hope that speaks volumes. SOmetimes it's not how much per line but how much can you make per hr, or per day, day in and day out with a service, and be treated with respect. We are not for everyone, but we hope we are not dismissed offhand because of the space issue without one really knowing us as a company.
And besides, they are already aware of the problem
I just wonder how they are going to resolve the issue.  I don't suppose they can unhire the recently hired MTs?  I wonder if they hired them at a lower rate than the oldtimers and just figure if the long time MDIers quit then they are paying less?
Please be aware that Transcend is
accounts in the near future, so if you like VR that is for you.  But they are only paying half, so if you get 8 cpl for MT, you only get 4 CPL for VR.  Also, no incentives or shift differentials and they require you to work on weekends.  I don't know about the other one.
Are their clients aware?
If I were a client of theirs, I would look for someone else to do my transcription. If I were a patient of this client and if I found out that the client knowingly supports this sort of crap, I'd look for healthcare elsewhere. Heck, docs come a dime a dozen!!!

It all comes down to the customers--that's US!!! The American citizens who trust that our medical records are (1) kept confidential and (2) are done correctly IN THE USA!!!

There should be a way to inform the customers of HIS's clients. First and foremost, we, as customers, as Americans, need to boycott the physicians first--the ones who are sending American money overseas!!! There are PLENTY of other docs out there who support the USA and want to keep the work at home. They'll gladly take my money!

Persnonally, I don't want my medical record entrusted to overseas folks who, for the most part, hate us to begin with. They barely speak a word of English and they certainly do a pathetic job at trascribing. I've seen the damage these folks can do to medical records.

I think that we should boycott MDs who are paying HIS to transcribe for them.

If we don't stand up for ourselves now, what's next????

Just be aware that all accounts

on VR and they only pay you half your line rate - so if you are making 8 CPL, you would be paid only 4 CPL, and also no incentive for production, no shift differential, nothing extra, just 4 CPL.  Also it is very, very hard to double your production to make up for the half pay.  I felt I was mislead when I was hired about eventually having to go to VR (not given a choice) and what it entailed, low pay, etc.

You all may not be aware that there are two MediTasks
They are not the same company. The web address of the one which posted a job offer here is as mentioned above. There is another MediTask with the web address of www.meditask.net. I am only personally familiar with the meditask.net as that is the company I work for, a great one, by the way.
No bonuses that I'm aware of - s/m
Only been there a couple of months, though.  Schedule:  You pick either a Sun-Thu or Tue-Sat schedule.  You have a 24-hour window to make your daily line count.  Minimum required line count is 700 lpd.  Need a day off - just tell your supervisor.
