I work for a small national. I have steady work, usually

extra if I want it.  I make 10 cpl as an employee, get vacation, 401K matching, PTO, wonderful QA, lots of ESL dictators but mostly decent ones, direct deposit, no IM, no nasty e-mails, no phone calls asking me to work extra day after day.   Saying that MTs are surprised at how much money they make because they have steady work even though the line rate is low sounds like a line a used car salesman would use.  A low line rate is a low line and an insult, especially since without the MTs you wouldn't be able to pay your bills.

Just because everyone else sees to be going to India is like the saying you parents would say if everyone else jumped off the bridge ....  Many companies sell out, but you don't HAVE to sell out.  You choose to get more bang from your buck but I've seen the work that comes back from overseas and I would never put my name to it.

You might can fool some of the people some of the time, but it won't fly with me.

WEBMEDX???? It's a small national, right? Benefits, running out of work, what kind of accounts,

flexible schedule (as in working EVERY weekend mandatory?

Any opinions on the company would be appreciated.  Found some in the archives but all mostly from 2004 and 1 recent post but not much info.  Thanks.

Absolutely not! I work for the best MTSO. I am have been so blessed to work for the small company I

I will share this about the MTSO I work for.  I called her late last Wednesday night after Church and told her I was compelled to help out with Hurricaine Katrina in some way and an opportunity arose for a small group from my Church to go to Louisianna this coming week.  Would she be able to cover my work.  She told me no problem without any hesitation and even donated money for the trip.

And I am sure there are plenty of good companies out there to work for.  To compare us to migrant workers is just not right.

Can work as many hours as I want at the national I work for now, and they don't pay OT until you
to a certain level of production.

Happy, both accounts are California accounts which is a higher pay!!!!
Small national companies
I'm trying to find a new company and it is way more involved than I thought.  Earlier I asked about larger companies.  What are some of the smaller companies that people work for, say not more than 200 MTs??  Thanks for your replies!!
Should I go from national to small company?

Hello. I am sure many have asked this same thing before, just looking for a rooting section to feel better about this.  I currently work for a national.  With many changes, not feeling like a person, production sinking, morale gone, on and on and on... I decided to seek PT position with a smaller company.  So, I found a second company.  They are small, but growing. The director is a former MT.  They currently have about 100 MTs. The pay is very standard at 8 cents.  Their platform is slowing me down a bit, but they say they are working on upgradiing it.  Their communication and personal attention to me has been excellent.  I have 1 dictator. I see what work is coming in and have 20 hours to get it done.

Is the small company too good to be true?  Being burnt from national, I am finding it hard to grasp that this really could be this good.  sure, the pay isn't as great..it is an IC position, rather than employee...but I am not stuck with God knows what work, changing all the time...and I am heard and appreciated.

Do I just bite the bullet and transition the small company into full-time and do the national PT?  Any comments, suggestions, etc would be appreciated!

Yes, there is such an animal. I work for a small co and have as much work as I want. Have

The national I work for does not do that. sm
If low on work, they do not take away benefits.
you work for a national....nm

I work FT for a national,
and a few hours a week as an IC for a local doc, whose transcription I have done for nearly 11 years now. The full-time job is 32 or more hours per week, and includes benefits. The IC gig might take 3 hours a week, but the line rate is a LOT more than for the national, and in fact is keeping me alive.
Unfortunately, when you work for a national or particularly a specialist, there are ..sm
many, many referring physicians. Doctors do not want to take the time during dictation to be considerate in providing spellings of doctors names, towns, and even spelling of patient names. It is ashame, however very common for many of us to have to take the time to look it up. I have found, in my experience, when I have had my own clients over the years, I don't take this horse sh_ _. I left blanks and had their office staff fill in the missing info. After time, the doctors became more disciplined and provided more complete dictation after being hounded by their office staff. Unfortunatley, when you work for a local service or national transcription company, you have to take the heat for not researching the doctor names, addresses, etc. Sad, but true. Find some good national doctor databases for this purpose. If you are referring to patient names in relation to demographics, you simply cannot guess on them. Spell it as it sounds and type spelling not given (doc's problem in this case).
Would anyone work for a large national co, with a

I use the company provided computer.  They had a change in computers and I was sent a new one.  Since that time, the foot pedal provided has not worked.  I can hear reports, but I cannot backup or move ahead using the pedal.  To hear something again, I have to bang my foot on the pedal. To move ahead forward or go backward for any length, I must go to playback page and manually move the cursor to where I need to be.

I have put up with this for five years. Yes, that is right, FIVE YEARS!!!! I have called our so-called Help Desk numerous times and I have been sent two more pedals, neither of which work, or, rather, work the same as the original pedal.  I have asked for help from countless people.  The Help Desk states I am the only one having the problem.  The supervisor says I am the only one having the problem. I know one other person on my team who is also having having the problem, but we are too  ashamed to really raise heck.  I am disgusted.

By the way, it is the most commonly used foot pedal. Even their ad states it works with any computer.  I just had to vent.

I too work for a national which is DCing the DD on 8/1. sm
My other job is working for a hospital at home. So glad I have that hospital position! I get full benefits, plenty of work, and respect. (3/3 ain't bad!!) I also have 30+ years' experience, ex-CMT by exam. Go for it, CMT, and I wish you the best of luck.

Check out not-so-local hospitals within your state, too.

I used to work for a national and when we ran an ad, we would get 200-300 resumes. sm
These all came at once, so it was a little time-consuming to get through them. Email or call because the squeaky wheel does get the grease!
Yes I work for a smallish national..plus still has not come in mail either

Talking about the ones who say you cannot work for another national MT service. nm

I work full time for a national and as an IC
for a local company. The FT is 40 hours per week, the IC is when I want to work, usually about 10 to 12 hours a week.
i work for one national, 2 services, and have one private account...
I have four kids between ages 18 and 5. Right now I have bitten off more than I want to chew with all the accounts. One pays 10.5, one pays 9, and one pays 8.5 with incentive. My private account, believe this, pays 21 cents per line, but they only dictate about $500 per month worth. I need to get rid of one but don't know which one yet. The good thing, if there is one.......I never run out of work.
Co I work for, large national, allows normals. Of course, you must listen

I agree with ChiaPet- I work for a big National that advertised
Sun-Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday. I told them I would prefer M-F, because Saturday and Sundays are my time. They found an account that accommodated my wishes. I also might add that it is day shift. You have the choice. Yes, they would prefer everyone work that shift, but I promise you there are enough of us that those that love weekend work can do the weekend work, and those that like our weekends can have our weekends off.
Where I work is for a small
locally owned company that is not large enough to attract the interest of the poachers from offshore. Neither is it large enough to accommodate additional people at this time. Just a few local people doing our work quietly. The point is, I found it, and you can find places like this, too. Hint: Don't look to the big companies. They have no loyalty to their workers. In my book, smaller is better! Doing research is part of being a good MT. And although I make a penny less than the vaunted 11 cpl from MDI, I actually earn more per hour, as I do not have to deal with a constant flurry of ESLs and equipment that is so old and unreliable that it is a headache just to log on each morning.
I work for a major national and starting rate is no where near 9 cpl for acute care. (nm)

Anyone work for a small MTSO?
Compared to larger companies?
I work as an IC for a small company and
I have worked for nationals and always hated having hundreds of different doctors and all the different account specifics, and above all searching for the demographics that I didn't get paid for.  Now I download from a FTP site, transcribe in Word and send it back within 24 to 48 hours (depending on the account).  I currently have 3 different doctors that I am very comfortable with and can breeze through.  I have no regrets about leaving the big nationals.
I also work as an IC for a small company
(without a contract too, so you are not alone, but working for me also). I just let my company know when I will be gone with plenty of notice (at least one month ahead of time), especially if I will be gone for an extended period such as a week or longer. Have never had any problems.
I work for a small hospital...
which is going through some changes (selling out to another organization).  My question to you is what area are you in.  I have been trying to get an hourly rate for my area for a while now and can not get an answer.  I also get paid per minute, not production per se,  just a certain amount for every minute of dictation I do.  I do the basic four which also includes radiology and psychiatry.  A little over a third of my work is radiology.  Please e-mail me.
I work for a small company and
some of the clients have actually threatened to go with the larger companies that offshore to get cheaper rates. I've had to take a pay cut in order to keep the account from going to India. The clients will go where they get the better deal. Many of us will take a pay cut because of the competition regardless of how big the company is. I don't think anywhere is safe. You have to work harder to make up for the cpl loss.
I work for a small company in Iowa

The woman that owns the company is crazy.  She treats physical therapy like it's acute care.  They are office visit notes and she acts like they are Op notes and the doctor is breathing down her back waiting for them to be typed.  The physical therapist could care less ------- it's an exercise class lady - get over it.  At 6 cpl she wants a miracle.

I inquired and it's just a gal running a small business looking for IC work. nm

I work for JLG and they are just fine. They treat you well with small little perks.
So they pay by 65 characters. So does most everyone else. They pay on time and are reliable which is better than I can say for some others around here.
Any small companies in Michigan that are nice to work for. nm

Small but growing company, great to work for
Really sharp owner, great QA.
Anyone pay less than $800 a month for family insurance?? I work for a small MTSO
and it's not like I make a ton anyway, but the insurance is so high for my family. I feel like I'm just working for the insurance. My husband is self-employed so he obviously doesnt have insurance through his job to provide this so it is up to me and I'm dying here. Any suggestions? We have tried individual plans but it is a fortune for high deductible and yucky coverage. I need to maybe find a larger company to work for where the benefits are a little better.
Need good small company to work for with flexible schedule - e-mail me.nm

but mgmt told me they outsourced some work to a small company at times.

There is no reason for me to lie about this.

I am NOT talking about offshoring, but the company whom they outsource to may offshore . . . I have no idea about that.  But straight from the horse's mouth, they have outsourced to a small MTSO before.

You can notice how the work dries up all of a sudden when they turn it over to the service and we have no work.

TT mgmt may not tell that they outsource today, but they definitely told me about 9 months ago when I asked when the work was low.  From the way the jobs disappear occasionally, I think it happens quite often.

Awesome small company! Paid on time every 2 weeks. Plenty of work!
Owner is great. I would recommend this company to anyone who wanted to be paid what they are worth and paid on time!
2 small MTSOs, IC, work 8-10 q.d. ~6 days a week, ave 2000-2300 biweekly, 10 yrs exp. 0.06gross and

Must be a small company. I have never talked to the owner of the company I work for. sm
He wouldn't have time. Why would someone talk directly to the MTSO? Most do not know (or care) about the details just the big picture.
As a whole.. nice people to work for, decent benefits but the get off/on the system, work/no work,
is maddening. I couldnt pay my bills or even work the schedule I was assigned. They would ask us not to work until work built up in the evenings and I specifically wanted to work days as I have kids etc. It just didnt work out for me but to each his own. It just seems there has to be a better balance in this business that what is happening.
I did speak with my manager. Work was promised. No work there when I needed to work.
I see the reports everyday too, but when I get work it is of bad quality, then there is no work unless I work diffrent shifts. Thank you.
Do what you think is best. I just left a major national, went to another national but after
6 weeks found it did not fit. Just happened to luck into another smaller national and things couldn't be better. There are other jobs out there.
My liaison always says to work on secondary when primary is low on work/no work. n/m

That's going to be nuts...I do ASR work too, plus work split shifts. We'll NEED a spread shee

Work is easy, very nice owner, pays weekly, work in Word.

A majority of at-home MT is overflow work with in-house getting the bulk of the work. If they clean

Pay is always on time, direct deposit, very nice management to work with, and DQS platform, work
load normally busy, but low now because of the summer slow down on my accounts.  Sound an issue on some accounts, but not others.  Overall, wonderful company.
That is a BIG problem at TransTech is leads assigning work, rather than letting the work flow
This TT MT just admitted to that fact.  It has been very obvious, as so easy to tell how work comes into our que and then gets pulled out as fast as it came in and replaced with YUKKY dictators.   VERY frustrating to us other TT MT's who take the JUNK that is NOT assigned to other MT's, such as this poster.
Ever thought of a home health care aide? Usually paid training and start work right away. Can work
m
It does work, you do not need to "make" it work.. it works in all word based programs.
