Serving Over 20,000 US Medical Transcriptionists

They only offshore if the client wants it. Most accounts do not want their work offshored. NM

Sten-Tel is bringing all of their offshore work back in to USA. Per the client's wishes! nm

VA accounts cannot be offshored
- so that could not have been the excuse given by the previous company/employer I mentioned.  I know this is a huge factor for most companies providing quality work from quality MTs.  Really is a sad situation all around.  Sure don't see my medical bills decreasing and I prefer someone qualified and, because they are, hopefully adequately paid to type my medical records.
They do offshore, but only at the request of the client. nm
x
No, they can NOT go offshore if the client doesn't allow it!
How many times do I have to say it?

If the client/account requires that the work stay here in the US, then the work stays in the US.
what are you offering, you offshore, have no control over your client?
nn
what are you offering, you offshore, have no control over your client? Duh?!
meant to add that.
But meanwhile as they take accounts probably by offering very low line rates until the client sees
what they got the MTs that lost the accounts scrounge around trying to get new accounts. Rather sad.
Most facilities don't know their work is offshored
the MT dept. head knows about it and nobody else. That's pretty evil. Hadn't thought about that.
Heartland will sell accounts, because when it is done overseas the cost for the client is cheaper
nm
they offshore many of their accounts -
and they put you on multiple accounts, which makes it EXTREMELY difficult to maintain a line count. God help you if you need any help with accounts, the staff is good at demeaning you before helping you.
Do they have offshore accounts?

Thought I read somewhere that they have a company in India?

Accounts going offshore or VR. They are losing large account SM
because the hospital(s) is going paperless.

I assume they want us all on VR, so they can pay us 2 cpl or whatever they are paying the offshore MTs.

You can ask to be put on a higher level account, however, there is no M-F on the higher level accounts. They want you to work evenings and one weekend day.
maybe not over hiring, maybe no work being given to them from the client

Any RAD MTs work on Client Server
TIA!
...always a backlog by the client. If it ever gets cleaned up, you have no work for that day. This
s
I work right for the client.......not the MTSO. I am an IC for a hospital. nm
x
The client will not know how their work gets done. A contract is negotiated and
line rate agreed upon.  End of client involvement.  I have never seen a contract where the client specifies exactly how the work is to be done.  The client just wants the work done timely and accurately.  At that point, the MTSO can either hand the work over to MTs they are paying 8 to 10 cpl to transcribe or they can run the dictation through the VR server and have it transcribed and then edited for much less.  The client still pays the agreed upon rate, but the MTSO makes a much greater profit by cutting MTs pay by half and asking them to edit.
Old posts also say your pay is docked if client is unhappy with your work. No thanks. nm
s
Such a lame excuse too - I'm so sure the CLIENT ASKED to have their work outsourced overseas!
They do think we're idiots, don't they?
Well it sounds like no work happens a lot at DSG. How are the accounts as far as decent accounts
and their QA.
will be offshored.
x
I don't see how this could be offshored at this point
or in the future. It is really much more intricate than MT as you have to know coding assigned by individual states as allowed by Medicare, and you pretty much have to know all Medicare/Medicaid regulations and independent insurance company regulations. Because of the oath you take when you become certified and because you have to be physically available IF a monetary/or jail term penalty is issued, I don't think employers would take the chance with coding that they do with MT. See, when it comes to getting paid for services, employers aren't as willing to take chances.

Oh, other employers who need coders are insurance companies and medical office management companies.

good luck,
d~
LINK TO WHAT ELSE IS OFFSHORED

I have spent the last hour doing research on offshoring of medical transcription.  This is one of the sites that I found and now they do our taxes and legal stuff too?  Some of the ones I found also offshore to Russia and China!  Check this link out and look to the right of the page to see what else they are doing.  They even listed some of the MTSOs and will sell you articles and information on their plan of action or whatever they call it.

offshored to India.....
Why do you automatically assume that an Indian or any foreign employer will be hostile?
By not accepting to work for a foreign employer, you shoot youtself into your foot; because if you don't accept as an US MT the work, then they will be forced to offshore. It is the other way around, so much work is outsourced, because many US MTs refuse to work for 'hostile', foreign employers.

On top of this, there is literally no middle class in India; the gap between rich and poor is immense. The poor people who manage to get a good education are struggling for jobs, and they are good. There are IT experts who cannot find a job, students who studied a
couple of semesters of medicine, cannot work as a physician, start a career in medical transcription. And they are good, hardworking and very cheap; they are happy to survive.

Mexican do the work US citizen do not want to do, it is too 'low' for them.
Reading all these negative comments from US MTs, make me wonder if the profession of MT will go down the same road and will be given to people who are ready and 'eager' to take this kind of work.
What does scoping pay? And does it get offshored?

Perhaps recruiting has been offshored?
amn
I want to add: An US MT newbie would know, an offshored MT probably not..nm
nm
I thought AllType offshored?
nm
They might be offshored BUT they drove down prices when they were sm
able to be sent offshore, prior to the VA system getting wise. Until 15 months ago, keeping the work in the USA was not a requirement for VA accounts. You had to be a US company but could have anyone do the work.

All easy dictators are offshored

I was part of a package that Transcend purchased. We were all assured there would be no changes, which was initially true for several months........then the massive offshoring became more and more noticable. One account would have hundreds of jobs in the evening; at 5 AM there was nothing left and if there were any jobs available they were  very difficult dictators.

It got to a point where any audible dictator was offshored and there were no decent dictators left. You also had to be flexible waiting for work. Sometimes you would have to wait 4-5 hours for jobs to be available. Then your health insurance was revoked for not meeting your quota.

My advice is  that you have no choice, give them a try. Maybe your luck will be better. If you do have job currently, I would not consider changing.

Good luck!

They offshore work
Some of their people are really nice but they send a lot of work offshore.  They care about the all mighty dollar and not the people that work for them....
He would have fun with the work being sent offshore

If WE are going to be nick picked for commas, semi-colons, etc., then what in the world happens to those reports being sent offshore?  They don't understand English let alone where to place a comma or not to cap a generic drug name.  When then day comes for me to correct offshoring mistakes ---- I will kiss this job good-bye.

They offshore and u run out of work!!!
You will run out of work as it is with them and when they find offshore to cover the account, you will lose all your work!!!!!!!!!  They are a lying bunch of theives!!!
It is well known they offshore their work.
They do not hide that, just wondered if it went to 100% now.
so, you know for sure this account agrees to be offshored? (some do not agree).

Companies that do not offshore work

Are there any companies that pay a good line rate and are good to there MTs that do not offshore there work?  I am trying to help a friend looking for part time work, but she is staying clear of those that offshore..

Any help would be appreciated.

They offshore. That's where all the easy work goes.
All that's left for U.S. MTs is ESL and difficult dictations.
They still offshore. I work for a better company
and they don't offshore.
does not send work offshore
MedScript Services in Florida
the offshore work - BTDT -

Does OSI send work offshore?

If so I won't bother.  TIA

THey offshore the good work. nm

It if offshore work. You'd be better off working
at Wal-Mart.
She's right TT does NOT send work offshore.
Never have and never will.  The day they do is the day I quit because I never have worked for a company that offshored and I never will.
OSI does send offshore work
nm
Yes. I will not work for companies which offshore.
If we all did that, the companies would have no choice but to come back and give us our jobs back.
They claim it is only 15%, but it is more like 60% offshore work.
The offshore swine get preferential treatment over the US transcriptionists. The screen shows there is work to do and suddenly everything is gone but the bad dictators, and I do not mean 10 jobs, I am talking at least 45 jobs at one time off my accounts just disappeared. I thought about changing my name to hari skrishna for a while so I could get some work, but found another job instead.
Do they send work offshore?
Just wondering.
and they dont care is offshored. Bottom line to them
x
My 1 cent (keeping it low so opinion doesn't get offshored).
I agree with a lot of the other people. I will say, though, that I would be A-OK just working on Word since I'm assuming getting a the DocQScribe set up for a bunch of people might be cost prohibitive, at least at first.

Also, since you are talking hospital transcription, that is going to mean 7 day a week coverage. If the need arises, I would rather see rotating weekend coverage rather than requiring everybody to work every weekend.

Also, while cross-training is great for vacations, sick days, heavy work, it would be terrific to be able to get an account and not have to chase the work across 6 different accounts in a crazy MT version of musical chairs. I guess that would mean not over-hiring.

It may be unpopular, and it's probably easy for me to say because I've been at this for so long, but since we don't really establish seniority at a company, I would love to see some sort of reward for years on the job. I think I bring more to the table than someone with 2 years, and it would be great to be rewarded for that.

I'm sure I'll think of more...it's been so long since anybody asked what could make my job great that I had given up even thinking about it!
