If you cross your eyes, they'll freeze!

Posted By: sm on 2007-06-04
In Reply to: what 'stories' were you told as a child that you - believed?

My mom told me that if I kept crossing my eyes, they'd eventually freeze into that position. I believed her, but I was a defiant little girl, so I'd stare at her and cross my eyes just to push her buttons. I figured that I might have at least one more freeze-less eye crossing in me to make her mad, and if they actually did freeze, then I'd just cross that bridge when I came to it!

By the way, I'm 45 and she's 77, and my mom is still telling me that if I cross my eyes they'll freeze that way! And I'm still crossing them just to tick her off! :)

you can now get the freeze stuff OTC

No you cross a bridge to get there - not far enough out (sm)
to warrant a ferry or plane. But it is truly surrounded on all three sides, and you couldn't wade or swim across...lol. It is a port town, and they have a huge shrimp boat festival there every year with all sorts of artsy vendors and such. There is an old saloon there called the Palace Saloon which was supposedly the old hangout for pirates and smugglers who went through the area. Here are a couple of links if you are interested in reading or seeing pics :)

ie, casseroles, for a family (mom having cancer surgery) that freezes well.  (i know beef does, but ) does tuna freeze well, ie tuna noodle casserole? Does green bean casserole w/soup do well? Would it matter if the beans were previously frozen?  thanks.

did it cross your mind that if sm
you sty you are abusing your child and setting yourself up to be hurt? Get out now ND worry about it later. If he has been doing this for years why don't you already have enough proof? Have you been doing the wishy-washy thing all along? There is no excuse. You re no better mother than he is a father and husbnd if you continue to keep your child there.
Deep Freeze !!!
Holy icicles batman ! It is -8 here in New England !

How about where you live?
I hitchhiked cross country twice when...

I was a teenager....and survived!

No way...driving cross country just as..
we do every year. DH and I take the month of May off for vacation and drive a Ford Explorer. Yes I have a large vehicle and no I don't feel guilty about having it It comes down to being economical in other ways. We use a credit card for the whole trip for gas and hotels, etc and get a 5% rebate. The vacation money is already put away in the bank so when we get back I just write a check for the bill. We have some of the highest gas prices here in the west and always figure it is a treat to head east and watch the prices drop a bit.
Someone once cross-stitched a beautiful
personalized picture for me that I will always treasure. She put it in one of those hoops and I hang it on my wall. Something personally made by you like that would be special but I also agree with flowers and a nice card like the other poster said.
Can you freeze fried eggs? - sm
I thought I might freeze breakfast sandwiches for my son so he can have a quick breakfast before work - you know, bagel, egg, bacon and cheese.  Anybody know if eggs freeze and the microwave well? Thanks!
do you freeze stuff like cereal and
flour for 24-48 hours to prevent weavils? Will load on toilet paper, that's for sure! Have heard some stories about that!
I love cross stitch, to look at. I don't see well enough to do it myself sm
but I sure think it is pretty and there are several things I would love to have for my house. I could translate them into English smocking, which I can well, and put them up. I have a couple of Pullen pleaters and that helps. I have a baby dress for my mom's reborn doll I am doing right now and she wants that smocked.
The older guys, unless cross dressing
or otherwise, would never think of burning candles just like they would not take bubble baths. I think your sexual preference is whatever you want but I do not, for me, want a metrosexual (I want facials, skin care, pedicures - you get the picture) man. As an older woman, I just like total masculine myself for a hubby, don’t want to second guess why he is using my makeup, candles, fingernail polish and the like. Any time you have to guess like the post did, there is probably more underlying than you see on the surface.
tiramisu - buy a 1/4 sheet cake, freeze it
hot bed aerobics! Only problem is I've been celibate for almost 4 years now...hasn't stopped me from my tiramisu, though!! Gained 30 lbs eating it without the aerobics!!
I moved cross country from Nebraska
to Phoenix. It was the best time of my life. I actually lived in Mesa and the cost of living was suprisingly reasonable. I had a really nice condo for around $700-800 a month, 2 bedroom, with it's own laundry room, covered parking, etc. I worked in Phoenix and the highway I took wasn't all that bad from what I was expecting.  I eventually moved to Scottsdale, but the cost of living there is fairly high, but beautiful. I loved Phoenix because it was just hours away from the Cali so I could visit the beaches on the weekends and also just hours away from Las Vegas. It's a great place to be single and I made so many new friends there so quickly. At the time, I was also single and no kids. It's supposedly the best city for singles. Good luck on your search. I envy you a little bit as I love traveling myself...
Computer starting to freeze up every now and then. Any suggestions? It is
only 3 years old and not sure what is causing this.
Hitchhike cross-country and get outside of my office
I would go from state to state and have a great time! To bad I am older and married.
Did it ever cross your mind that HE'S using YOU as a meal ticket?
So now it's you that has more money than the younger hubby. Hmmmm...food for thought, but perhaps I was off base earlier and it is, in fact, YOU that is the meal ticket in that power-couple relationship of yours.

Better stick with that guy for as long as he'll tolerate you. Today's younger guys like their women independent and enjoy EQUAL relationships.

If I were you, I'd peek into his cell phone on occasion. Ya know, just check the incoming and outgoing call lists. He might already be shopping around for a less expensive model, something that requires less upkeep and doesn't consider community property 'hers'.
North Dakota. :D Freeze in winter/fry in summer ;)

Well, this is our coldest period right now.  But having it -30 to -60 with the windchills certainly isn't any surprise.  In summer we can be in the 80s and 90s with very high humidity.  LOL!  We always say, if you don't like the weather... just wait a minute.

Red Cross told me excessive tea drinking could cause anemia.
o
Or just freeze to use in soup or sloppy joes down the road. nm
b
Also look into putting in a "credit freeze" which wouldn't allow anyone to open anything in
Go to Suze Orman's website. Good luck.
Several 2 and 3 day trips and DH and I take all of May off and drive cross country...can't wait!

why do you make your lasagne one day, separate it into meal size portions, freeze it, and eat it for
;
thanks! :) I'll see if he'll ask some female friends SM

Thank you everyone!  It has been great reading all of your responses!  Goodnight!!  "See" you all tomorrow!

Eyes. sm
Does anyone feel there is a film over their eyes and it is very aggravating?  Do glare screens help?  Anyone?  Thanks.
my mom had them in her eyes
just manifesting as pain. but had she waited 1 day longer to seek help, she would have reportedly gone blind. so yes, it CAN be serious.

in most other cases, i think there are residual problems and discomforts.
I had a cat whose eyes did that - the vet said

All in the eyes of the beholder, if you
can make it past the smoke, cough, cough.
It's the eyes - too far apart - I'm perfect!!

I have tears in my eyes. sm
I posted below sparklers on the 4th but your post brought back wonderful memories of the same thing. So many of the places that my mom and I shopped at are now gone. My fav was Kresgies (sp) which had a lunch counter as well as what was probably mostly junk. I always had a grilled cheese. Now a park stands there and my mom would take my daughter and niece there for picnics. I lost my mother also....oh just one more day.
Those beautiful eyes say it all, don't they....
xx
Crying my eyes out, here!
I finally watched the slide show the whole way through and am bawling like a baby.    Geez!  What a kid and what a family.  They are all in my prayers.
I was crying my eyes out!
Isn't Meryl Streep just the bomb!  What an awesome actress!!!  She transforms herself into her characters unlike anyone I've ever seen, I just love watching her act.
Look at those BLUE eyes!
Oh wow!  I don't think I've ever met a dog with blue eyes before!  They are beautiful!
my pets eyes always look like that
when I take their picture. Must be my camera. It has red eye reduction, but I guess it doesn't have evil eye reduction.
Bags under eyes

I am developing huge bags under my eyes and always, always look exhausted. Nothing wrong found at the doctor other than my never ending battle with depression. Photos taken at a wedding this weekend show my eyes to be especially dark at the outside corners-I always look like I've been crying.

Any tried and true remedies to help reduce the puffiness and darkness? I have sensitive, pale skin by the way.

Say they opened your eyes?
Just hope they don’t close them as well, permanently.
The collections under your eyes
could be caused by increased cholesterol. Have you had your cholesterol checked lately? If not I would suggest that as have heard about cholesterol showing up like that under your eyes.
collections under eyes
I was told that years ago but they were white like pimples but you couldn't pop them. These are a little darker than the flesh and not the same. I use to use a pin to clean out the cholestrol ones before I knew what they were. But just in case as soon as I can I am going to get it checked. I couldn't use the statins and they tired something else but it made me fart so bad all day I was an embrassment. So she won't test me. I am going to a new doctor as soon as I can afford it. I think my thyroid is still too low too she didn't do a T3 or T4 just a TSH. I still have symptoms also. Thanks for the reminder.
My kitty has eyes just like his! :)

the cost to see thru the eyes of love....
God bless him is all i can say.
Eyes are important. Why not make
an appointment? If the cause is just allergies and rubbing, maybe they will give you an Rx for allergy drops if eye itchiness is your main problem. Or you could try using an oral antihistamine and avoid rubbing your eyes and see if they improve. Get some Refresh Liquigel lubricant eye drops by Allergan.
As I write this, tears are in my eyes
because my furkids also gift from hubby and I know, really know the love we give these little ones. She had been through so much. You gave her a good home and I am sure did everything to make her life comfortable. I have 2 boys from my gift and 1 is a purrer and the other 1 not but again know I along with others share your sorrow.
Hayseed, I have tears in my eyes because
I have read your post and this is the first time hearing this. I have had so many animals, loved animals, that have died and to think I would ever see them again is something that just warms my heart. Birds, dogs, cats and even a white mouse are ones I have lost. Thank you so much for this.
Mickey Blue Eyes

and Lil Miss Sunshine are two of my faves.

I cried my eyes out watching that.....sm
My hubby watched it with me and he turned to me and said that will us when we get older.

I am one of the lucky ones, I guess. We were teenage sweethearts and to this day are very much in love and have a strong relationship and wonderful foundation for our two teenagers!
Can anyone tell me why bangs are worn down over the eyes and
people always seem to be a) shoving their hair out of them, b) flinging their head from 1 side to the other to get hair back from their face, c) keeping their hands in perpetual motion pushing their bangs/hair back from their face. Why in the world do female do this? If I had hair hanging in my face, over my eyes, I would have to have it cut. What is the reasoning behind this?
I started getting bags under my eyes in my 20's. SM
It kept getting worse. People would ask me what's wrong with my eyes. I finally had plastic surgery and it was the best thing I ever did.

It was the only thing that worked. This is only to be used as a last resort, but the results were amazing.
It brought tears to my eyes as well. You have

reason to be proud!!

Oh sweetie, I just have tears in my eyes for you - sm
What a horrible man and I can so relate to not wanting him to touch you.

BE SAFE. My biggest worry would be the guns and that's why I suggested you leave; I know it is important to try to keep your kids stable in school, but nutty control freaks do horrible, horrible things when they feel their power taken away.

Please keep us updated.
