Need help regarding Potato salad?...sm

I have a problem.  When my children were young they never liked potato salad.  They always asked if I would make macaroni salad all the time with holiday meals.  Today my son who is a teenager asked me if I would make potato salad to go with the turkey and all the other holiday goodies.  He said he does like potato salad now. I have no clue how to make this as I have never made it.  Any recipes/help would be so greatly appreciated.

I like potato salad with sweet pickles in it. sm

That's how my mom and grandma always made it, so I grew up eating it that way.  But the very thought of sweet pickles makes my hubby ill, so dill pickles it is for us.

Potato salad, baked beans.

Steak, of course, baked potato and salad.

OK...you can only eat 1 kind of dessert for a year, what will it be?
Mine is cheesecake!
If they are crescent rolls, make a pot pie using the rolls as a crust....see recipe
place a layer as a bottom crust as well. Bake until golden brown.

HUNTERS SAUSAGE PIE

Brown and drain two pounds sausage.

Mix one 8 ounce package cream cheese with sausage.

Use crescent rolls to make a bottom crust in the bottom of a lightly buttered 8 x 8 glass baking dish.

Spread sausage mixture on rolls evenly.

Place a remaining crescent rolls on top and bake at 350° for 20 minutes or so, or until golden brown.

Cut in squares and serve.

You can also sprinkle shredded sharp cheddar cheese in the sausage mix.

Chocolate cake with chocolate icing!
My mother didn't like chocolate (is that unAmerican or what?) so it was always a real treat for me on my birthday when she made a chocolate cake with chocolate icing.

Caramel Rolls
FROZEN BREAD DOUGH CARAMEL ROLLS

2 loaves frozen bread dough
1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 sm. pkg. of each vanilla & butterscotch pudding (not instant)
2 tbsp. milk
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2-1 c. chopped nuts

Thaw bread, but do not allow to raise. Grease a 9"x13" pan. Tear one loaf into pieces and drop helter skelter into pan. Melt butter, add rest of ingredients and beat smooth. Pour over torn up loaf. Tear second loaf and throw on top (try to place in empty spots). Let raise 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

Place in 375 degree oven for about 30 minutes. Let cool about 15 minutes, turn over on wax paper.

I like to drop each piece of dough into a mixture of sugar and cinnamon before dropping in pan (optional).

Can also leave bread partially frozen before breaking and put all back in freezer. Set out Saturday night and bake on Sunday morning. Very good.

cinamon rolls???
Let the dough rise in buttered pan.  Roll out with flour to rectangle shape, brush off, sprinke with cinamon and sugar and raisins if you like them, roll up long ways and cut into 2-3 inch sections, place in cake pans, about 6 or so in an 8 x 9 (also brushed with butter).  Lay towel over and let rise again. Bake at 350 till golden.  Spread buttercream frosting on.  Just like Cinnabon.  YUM.
I believe strongly in gender rolls...
I know that this statement will be contraversial, but I think that the best way to keep a marriage healthy is to subscribe to traditional gender rolls. While I believe that marriages can last when other agreements are made, I think that straying from traditional gender rolls is a big cause of the increase in divorce. Yes, my husband does clean some and, obviously, I work, but for the most part, I take care of the house and the babies and he brings home the money. We are very happy this way. I am not saying that it cannot work another way, I think that it is a lot to ask of a husband to do both and a lot of women do.
Tried dessert from this board and others sm
Made the Jello/cream cheese/pineapple dessert from the Gab Board (looks good), son bringing pumpkin pie, bought a Mrs. Smith apple crisp, made pumpkin bread, choc. chip cookies and brownies.(Whipped cream on the side, of course)
Not hashbrowns but a quick dessert
1 box angelfood cake mix
1 15 oz. can of crushed pineapple

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9x13 pan with a baking spray.

In a mixing bowl, mix the cake mix (only) with the can of crushed pineapples. Pour into baking pan and bake for 25-30 minutes - until top is beginning to brown. Let cool, cut, enjoy. This is a weight-watchers recipe, I believe.
Beef stroganoff over fettucini, broccoli, dinner rolls.

Easy dessert - pistachio pudding.....
1 box of pistachio pudding (instant)

Add can of crushed pineapple w/juice and mix.

Add 3 cups miniature marshmallows and mix

Add 12-15 oz container of Cool Whip and mix

Better if made the day before
Poll: What's your ultimate favorite dessert.
Dark chocolate ganache covered wafers with chocolate truffle filling, drizzled with raspberry sauce and topped with fresh raspberries and gold leafing.
Hey Chillie, your dessert sound delectable!

Chocolate cream pie, whipped cream & chocolate shavings on it!
PLUS:

Chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream.

Pumpkin pie with a 2:1 ratio of whipped cream to pie.

A root beer float.

Chocolate chip cookies, or else soft, iced molasses ones - warm from the oven, of course!

And for dessert, a few chocolate Easter bunnies and a dark chocolate Hershey bar with almonds.
hot potato
The reason you have to slice them in half before you wrap the whole potato to cook it is because it is too hot to eat even hours later. By being already cut in half, no one burns their fingers and the potato instantly cools off once it is opened. You do not need to put them back in an oven once they come out.
Dessert? I'm making a Tres Leches cake for the 24th! yummy.

This is fairly easy to make.  Some people just make a regular yellow cake from the box, ie. Betty Crocker or Haines.  I like more the homemade taste.

Cream Cake (Tres Leches)

Yield: 10 to 12 servings

Ingredients:

The Cake:
3 eggs
1 cup sugar
¼ cup milk
1 cup all-purpose pour
1½ teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

The Cream Filling:
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

The Frosting:
1 cup whipping cream

Method:

The Cake:
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Separate the eggs. Beat the egg whites unti1 fluffy. Add the sugar gradually and mix well. Blend in the egg yolks, one at a time. Alternately blend in the milk, flour, and baking powder. Add the vanilla and blend well. Pour into a greased, square baking pan, and bake 45 minutes or until a knife inserted in the cake comes out clean. Remove the cake from the oven and pierce it with a fork, making little holes evenly over the surface. Set aside to cool.

The Cream Filling:
In a large bowl, mix condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract until well blended. Slowly pour the mixture over the top of the cake.

The Frosting:
Beat whipping cream until stiff. Spread over cake.

Put in the frig and serve cold.   Some people do add liquor to taste, such as brandy or rum.

Not a dessert. And what is it with all this canned stuff. People use fresh these days. Cook a sm
chicken breast, for goodness sake.  Do not open a can and serve it to guests.
Potato casserole
This is my funeral potatoes recipe which does contain cheese, but I see no reason why you can't adjust a recipe to your preference. I do it all the time when recipes have ingredients that I don't like. I'm thinking you could replace the cheese with cream of mushroom soup or cream of potato soup. Go for it. Don't be afraid to make a recipe your own!

* 6 medium potatoes, boiled
* 1 pint sour cream
* 1 cup cheddar cheese, grated
* 1 bunch green onions, chopped
* 2 tablespoons butter
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1/2 teaspoon pepper
* 2 tablespoons milk

Fried chicken drummettes, mashed potatoes wiht homemade gravy, corn on cob and rolls

Just like a potato chip, can't pick just one!

300, Forest Gump, Bram Stokers Dracula, 50 First Dates.

Those are probably my top ones that I never get sick of watching. I have a pretty huge movie collection and pretty much only buy ones that I really love though.  I'm a fan of most all types of movies.

You should change your name to Couch Potato
hehe

I like Grey's Anatomy too but never can remember when it comes on to record it. I have also seen commercials for Swingtown and that looks good but I can barely keep up with the little I record now. I hesitate to add to it. :)
Bake like a regular potato
They are good if you make them just like a regular baked potato too and just add butter, salt, and pepper. My husband also grilled them in foil this summer with butter and just a touch of brown sugar and they were great. I do not like the canned, fresh are MUCH better and less sweet from the start. I also saw a recipe for sweet potato chips in the oven. I haven't tried it yet and can't remember where I found the recipe but I'm sure you can Google it.
Bakes potato soup
I like to make baked potato soup. Bake 3 large potatoes or 4-5 small ones. Cut them in half, cool slightly, then scoop out the middle. While they are baking I takes some time to heat up some chicken stock with a bay leaf, garlic, black pepper, a little time. Sometimes I use boulion (sp?) if I don't have stock. Add potatoes to this. Heat to boil. Puree if you want or leave chunky. Add milk and cornstarch if you like it thicker or sometimes I use potato buds to thicken it. The amount of milk/chicken stock, etc. depends on how much fat you want. I used to use almost full milk or heavy cream but not any more. I just use enough to make it creamy now. Put in bowls and top with cheddar cheese and bacon. Sour cream doesn't work well. Really easy and quick (can "bake" the potatoes in the microwave if you want). I find that kids love it if you call it cheese and bacon soup. lol Usually for the bacon, I don't cook a new package but instead when I cook bacon for breakfast, etc. I save 2 or 3 pieces in the freezer each time. Then when I want some for soup, green beans, or salads it is available.

The drinkin kind or the rubbin kind?? sm
So....is that for me to drink so I don't notice or care that my hands are all splotchy black or to get the ink off?    Seriously though, do I use the rubbing alcohol - or like Jack Daniels??  and do I soak in it or what?  I never heard of using alcohol but I'll try anything.

soft paws - yes they work :)

Hi,

I moved recently, and we brought my daughter's cat with us.  There was no way we could do anything else with him.  He is an older cat, and they have grown up together.  We moved into a beautiful home, but there was no way I could bring myself to declaw him, especially at his age.  It just wasn't an option.  So, we researched what we could do for him, and we opted to "try" the Soft Paws.  Well, they have been a godsend for us.

Some advice - you do have to clip their nails before putting the paws on, so you need a good clippers and need to be very careful for the vein that runs through the claw.  If you are not comfortable trimming their nails, of course you could get it done professionally.  The plastic covers slip on and are glued over the clipped nails.  You do need to be very careful to get the proper size.  They go by weight, and my cat actually needed the large - he didn't meet the weight, but he is a bigger cat, and his feet are just bigger :P.  If they are too small, they come off very easily, and I think they are uncomfortable for the cat.  Also, they do need to be replaced about every 2 months - they fall off eventually as the nail grows out, and you need to repeat the process.  We find that it is worth it though, even with the little nail caps laying around on the floor occasionally!  :P

My "furkid" adapted very well to the soft paws... so I would definitely consider them as an option.  Hope this helped! :D

Yes, it is soft and scratches easy because...sm

bamboo is not really a wood, it is a grass turned into a *wood* - it scratches easily (kitty litter can scratch it) and so it's *shoes off* in my house.  *laughs*  I studied woods for 5 years before I made my choice, knowing all about it scratching easy but since my kids are ALL GROWN UP....no problem here.  *S*

Our husky is getting soft, he is really good - sm
about coming in when called for the most part (not when he lived with my dad though). But on the cooler nights he tends to drag his feet coming in. Or just give me a look from down where he is lying on the deck ( you know how husky's are) and you know he is thinking I will coming in when I am darned ready to. I then check back in 5 or so minutes and he will come in then, so funny. I usually leave the dogs out until I am going to bed (11-12) and he runs right in and lays down on his dog bed and goes right to sleep. Need to start walking him though, he gained like 10 pounds this last year and he is a big boy as it is (85#-- does not look overweight though which is good, still has a nice waist just a little thicker than it should be) and he only has 3 legs so that is not good for him (2 front, 1 back). Maybe after dinner now that it is starting to cool down, way too hot before with all his fur.
I think sometimes men are not supposed to have a soft side
some think of as not being masculine but he shows me a calming, soothing, softened touch that I could just eat out of his hand. If he could bottle and sell, women would make him rich beyond his wildest. He is from a very large family, 11 in all and get this- none of the guys (around 7 or so), all married and not 1 divorce in the group! I think that speaks volumes- the range of age is from around 60s down to the upper 40s. I accused him of sprinkling gold dust in my eyes because years later still have that same feeling!

Wow! I actually use medium, but not soft. I don't understand sm
how you have cavities due to a hard toothbrush? I mean, cavities are caused by not brushing.

And root issues due to a hard brush? Again, I'm not disputing what you are saying, but enamel and gums are two completely different things.

And 2 minutes is the minimum that you should brush your teeth. The only thing I will retract in my post is the firm brush - medium is good -soft for sensitive teeth.

If soft porn could possibly be more

I have a soft spot for this story. sm
My aunt went through a similar story. She had a highschool sweetheart, but the families couldn't get along. So, Aunt went off to college, met and married. Had 2 boys. HS sweetie went to different college, met and married, had 3 kids.

They met at 30th HS reunion. Both divorced and alone, children grown up. Both lived in different states so decided to write back and forth via email. After a couple years, they moved closer to one another and started dating. A year later they were married.

They were very happy together and planned their retirement time to spend traveling the country in their RV. They got 5 happy years together, including 1 year of retirement. Aunt got very ill and died suddenly.

Moral of story: Life is shorter than you think. Do the best you can with what you have.
