Mayor NO followed NONE of the procedures he was supposed to

Heard this on the radio.  There are certain steps in the city emergency procedures that are to be followed on a local level, state level, national level.   The mayor of NO for all his complaining about the Federal Government, did not follow any of the procedures he was required to.  Interesting.

Don't forget the "good Mayor" who did not follow standard emergency procedures
But he sure is quick to throw blame on everyone else.
I'm not angry when I say this about the mayor - sm
The mayor kept telling people to leave over and over and over again. He stated that he knew thousands did not have cars. He even said "this is the real thing, folks." Why didn't he provide school buses or city buses to get these people out - just take a few belongings, get on the bus, and get out of the city.

Did your husband know that the plans the mayor of NO used

were the same plans that were specified by the Department of Homeland Security when they did a simulation of this disaster in the 4 years prior?  When FEMA was absorbed by the DHS, they did simulations of events like hurricanes, earthquakes, etc.  In their simulation called Hurricane Pam, which was only simulated as a category 3, they said that the only place available as a shelter in this type of storm was the Superdome.  They studied this for years.  The mayor followed their recommendations.

As far as buses being available, the mayor made the public transportation system available for free but that was only inside the city of N.O.  He can't make private sector transportation services provide free transportation OUT of the city and then, again, he could have used the public transportation and the school bus system to transport them out of the city, but to where?  These people had no money - where were they going to go?  The only option the mayor had was to use the recommendations of the DHS and house them in the Superdome.  What other city was available in Louisiana that would have housed hundreds of thousands of people in shelters designed to withstand a category 4 (possibly 5) storm?  There was none.

There was an article published yesterday in which many administration officials described how FEMA would work since it was absorbed into the Department of Homeland Security and what the responsibilities would be if the president declared any disaster an incident of national significance.  It was an excellent article and very eye-opening.   FEMA isn't the FEMA we knew from years ago that could act independently and at a quicker pace.

and he as mayor of that city had no responsibility at all?
Such convoluted logic. Believe me, he's doing a great job of pointing the finger of blame and ducking responsibility on his own without any help from you.
I think it was the mayor of Fort Lauderdale that I saw on TV.
He was going through where people could go for shelter, etc, how the government was prepared. BUT, he also POINTED OUT that it is an individual's RESPONSIBILITY to PREPARE for themselves. C'mon PEOPLE, RESPONSIBILITY is an individual thing. Why does everyone expect the GOVERNMENT TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEM instead of PREPARING for THEMSELVES! This is probably the BIGGEST PROBLEM with America today. PEOPLE DO NOT WAHT TO BE RESPONSIBLE TO TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES. It's so much easier to expect others to do it and complain and whine when they don't get what they EXPECT. THIS IS TRULY SAD FOR AMERICA!
Comment about New Orleans and Ray Nagin, the Mayor...sm

I just read below that a lot of you believe that Ray Nagin is a "hero" for speaking his mind, etc.  My DH just told me this morning that he read the evacuation plans for New Orleans and what the city and its leaders (Nagin being the main leader) were supposed to do in the event of a hurricane, flood, etc.  The manual stated that ALL public transportation was to be used to but the elderly, sick, poor, and those unable to get out to higher ground until the storm or catastrophe passed.  He did not do that. He got on tv and told those to get out. No public transportation or school buses were used to get these people out.

I hate to judge, but I just cannot help but think that this guy is all talk and no action?  I don't know, sure does sound like it to me.  I too thought he was awesome, until my husband explained the evacuation procedures and how the city did nothing but warn of people to get out - and did not help them....

I know, sounds like the blame game and I am sorry if it sounds like I'm blaming.  I just can't help but state this when now the facts are coming to light.

Maybe ALL the tourists didn't have access to the mayor
Yeah, he's a regular Rudy Guiliani isn't he? You don't have a clue.
ortho procedures
It sounds like the MD is saying "oatsi"  this is on a patellofemoral procedure. Can anyone help?
If the clinic does procedures or is SM

accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of HEALTHCARE Organizations, they have to comply.

I think gynecologic procedures
get me- it makes me sick to my stomach to hear some of the stuff they do, like I can feel it myself. And could there be a creepier term than uterine cry???
I have them for routine procedures for
the same doc -- T&A, cholecystectomies, appy's, and a lot of my orthopedic doctors. I also have them for ROS and PE exams. I just leave jump markers for values, right/left, and things like that.
I like procedures/ops, because of not fooling with grammar much or Sm
drugs, new stuff. I am lazy and don't like to work very long in the day!
Ask your QA what the account considers procedures sm
and make a list.

This really CAN be confusing at times.
What types of procedures? I love doing

cardiac caths because most docs will say the same thing over and over, same for bypass grafting, just different grafts and locations.  All in all the procedures stay basically the same.  This also works for cardioverting, just change the joules where appropriate.  When I do a cath or other procedure for the first time. I will make a normal for it then make changes as they come along.  These procedures can be good for the line count!.  Also, in your short keys, make short cuts for left and right anterior descending, ejection fraction, end diastolic pressure, etc., you get the picture.  They will use these a lot.

I have found that most of the time the more difficult dictators are the ones that will basically go word for word in dictating their reports.  Good luck!

Thanks
Repetative procedures you can template for faster lines..easy $$ nm

I love procedures, colonscopes, EGDs, cardiac caths - this stuff earns me the good money, ESL or no!

it IS the mayor's fault and it IS Kathleen Blanco's fault
to assess the potential damage and what help they have immediately available in their area. They are then responsible for contacting the feds for more aid BEFORE the fact if they truly know their geography, economics, and have a weather advisory board on hand for such purposes, which they DO.

The mayor and the governor did not do any of this and now as the general consensus of the liberal loonies always turns, if you drop the ball and don't take responsibility for what you're expected to know how to do in your elected office, BLAME BUSH.

Stupid is as stupid does.
Yes, they are supposed to, but
and it is our responsibility to do the VERY best we can with what we are given. I KNOW there are crappy dictators;I do way more than my share 'cause cherrypickers don't get called on the carpet(but that's another story). I don't earn much at this and it stinks, but I just can't believe that you think we do not contribute to patient care and are merely "typists". No wonder we can't get any respect in the form of better pay, etc. Just because the doctors make the big bucks we should do sloppy work? I don't think so. Don't you want your records or your family's to be accurate? I would hope so.
wow! are we supposed to be seeing this?
?
Well, how are they supposed to get the
they don't know where to send them? Considering that a lot of these people are refusing donations of clothing, food, toys, personal necessities, etc., because they just want the money, I'm sure they'll stay put somewhere for two weeks.
What's that supposed to mean? nm

Well, that's supposed to say 70s up there......

Actually, I would just like them to sit where they are supposed to. sm
Since my kids and breastfeeding, they hang down to my bellybutton so to speak. I would just like them firmed ang tightened back up and sit on my chest where God put them and not hang so much. I even tried standing on my head for 5 minutes at a time 3x day - and that didn't help any!! LOL.

You are actually supposed to be doing that as an IC. SM
You almost must have a commercial line counter. I use Sylcount.
not supposed to put looking for job ads--sm
on the job seekers board...you are supposed to post your resume on the resume site. If you post looking for a job on the job board, they will remove it. just letting you know. That is for company's looking for employees, not employees looking for jobs.

We are supposed to either have our
e-mail open or be signed in to IM while we are working so we can be contacted quickly.  It's very helpful because we can see who is available if we have a question that perhaps another MT can answer or if we have an addendum somebody can pick up, that kind of thing.
If you don't know that MTs are supposed
to be accurate 100% of the time, then why are you doing this to start with? None of us are 100% accurate, however, most companies expect a 98% accuracy rate, some even higher. Either you are not using a spellcheck/grammar check or just being careless.

Editors/QA only check reports that are sent in because of questions unless you are on 100% QA, or if they are assigned to do audits. They are not there to do your job for you.
You are not supposed to ask for help when

MQ supposed miscalculation
I worked for MQ yeeeears ago, when they were new, so let me assure you they have been caught before making "miscalculations" in their pay before. This was before the new platform, of course, and they had to send me a check for over $700.

All-around it is supposed to be more efficient...
I understand all that, and I am all for whatever is best for the patient, but I am just hoping I can "hang on" until retirement, which will be in another 15 years or so (unless the government ups that to like 80 or something now!).

Unfortunately, even AAMT seems 'off the mark' - a little too late, with their trying to get everyone certified, etc. All that expense to the MT, and then for what - you will still be without a job.

From now on, I am going to try to figure out some other type of career, which come on, at the age of nearly 50, I do not know how realistic this is.

I appreciate the information someone posted about getting help as a "displaced worker" when jobs are replaced by either foreign countries or technology. Somewhere there will have to be assistance for us. They claim over 400,000 MTs. If you are an 'above average' MT and are willing to change, perhaps 1/4 of that will be able to work for the next 15 years?

Philips is one of the leaders in technology and has outsourcing overseas for a long time...
sorry - this was supposed to go under "Freakin out"

You are supposed to place

Was this supposed to be someplace else?
I have been at JLG for a couple of months and I have found them to be honest to a tee. So why have you found them dishonest? Perhaps you might want to put this on the co board.
That was supposed to be NOT the poster.

Supposed to be scared?
I went to a dermatologist's office about a week ago. The PA saw me, guess physician on vacation. Lesion on face, was told possibly to have morphens and PA wanted to do biopsy. Have been MT for over 30 years but had never heard this diagnosis. When asked what it was, was told "possible connective tissue disorder," could be one of several things and not to look it up "because it would scare me." Then is when I was really scared, thinking malignancy, worst thing that came to mind. I went back this week for results of biopsy (not diagnostic of morphens) and told PA I did not look up as she did scare me. She then said that was what she and the physician "were supposed to do, scare the patients." I shook my head no, saying she was the first person in the medical field to have ever scared me. I had lots of lab work done to make sure this is not the diagnosis and go back next week for those but was given a hand out - if I had read this from the start would have thought did not fit most of the criteria listed and would have slept a lot better for the week. By the way, hope they don't give this to lay persons. Asked my husband to read a paragraph to see if he could comprehend it and he said absolutely not. Apparently morphens of the face supposedly sometimes related to scleroderma (which I did know) but mild form and this is the one I really love, when people die, usually die from something other than that. Know would not do any good to say something to physician about the "scare part" - would never be believed, my word against hers but after the lab work think that will be the last visit there.
How are we supposed to post then because it

Boy - I second that. Problem is, it's supposed
to get hotter and more humid this weekend.  Have tons of work to do in the yard and don't see that happening anytime soon !!
I am supposed to have an ultrasound

at the same time as the mammo.  The lady at the office said she also have to have mammos every 6 months for quite awhile, but hers finally went away on its own. Thanks for the info.
