Serving Over 20,000 US Medical Transcriptionists

You purchase the plans which allow so much data to be transferred.

I paid for the $59.99 monthly package, which is a lot of data usuage and have used programs such as Dictaphone ExText and Escription on the road. It seems like someone told me you'd have to pretty much be on it nonstop to use up all the data allowance but you can check it out here..http://b2b.vzw.com/broadband/bbapccard.html

We didnt know it would be like this until we got transferred. I only got transferred within the past
4 weeks. I already have my resume out and have talked to another company. It was okay until the accounts and offices get closed and we ended up at Amherst. I am sure a lot of us are leaving.
i got transferred too
it is crazy, never ran out of work until they moved us to amherst, they OVERLOAD bad....labor day wkend was a joke working for them, email on sunday they are desperate for ppl to work, by monday, no work

I Was Transferred
My office did close. My account was transferred to unfamililar territory and I have found this office to be far superior to the one I worked with before. Just 1 example: I was given a backup account when my main account volume was low. I did well with this account, but did not care for it. After several days, I tried my main account but kept getting the message that all requested dictation had been transcribed. After a few more days I got suspicious and dialed in using another MT ID number. There it was! Work available! It turns out that the woman in charge of my account had "blocked" me from getting into it so I was forced to the do the backup account. It seemed that another MT had quit and that left this account short of MTs. Instead of being honest with me and asking me to help out until they hired another MT, she just blocked me from getting in. So as you can see, it was not all that great with this office. When it closed, I felt bad for those who lost their jobs that worked in that office, but I also felt that I could trust the new office to not do that to me again. I was right. They were all shocked and very disappointed that an employee of MQ would pull such a stunt. I have been with this office for several months now and have been treated no less than wonderful. I am sure there are other good companies out there to work for, but for me, I am staying put. However, if you leave in good standing, MQ always welcomes you back, so you are right--what do you have to lose? I tried it, and if you need to test newer waters, I say go for it.
LOL I don't know. I do know they transferred their corporate
helpdesk back to the U.S. because it comprises 90% of their sales. I think it was 90%. The home users have to put up with the offshores tech support. I bought a Dell, too, because I figured I could do my own tech support without buying anything extra or calling them. Shoot, $300 for a computer and printer. They had to have lost money on that deal, right? I don't know if that was right or wrong of me if I'm against offshoring, but I really needed a new computer.

Anyway, you might try Dell's online knowledge base to search for the answers to your issues. Do you think you'd be able to fix it yourself with detailed instructions? What kind of problem are you having? Maybe I can help.
I transferred my glossary, etc to a new
computer.  I found out how to do it by Googling "copying Expander to new computer" or something like that.  I'm sorry I cannot tell you exactly what it says as they are printed at home and I'm on the road.  This works for your dictionary as well.
Has anyone had 8mm or Super 8 film transferred to DVD?

Seems to me it would be a great X-mas gift.  I found one of my brother (now 55+) when he advanced from cub scouts to boy scouts.

I tried to check out a couple of websites, but it's all Greek to me.

I cant believe it. I was just transferred to Amherst and said how much help they needed this weekend
and guess what. NO WORK. Are these people playing games up there with us and our livelihood. I am getting thoroughly disgusted and I think we should talk to corporate about this. There is no sense to this anymore. There is someone up there that must hate MTs and enjoys doing this. They have to be nuts. Is there someone up there we can talk to beyond these idiots that monitor the accounts.
Yes, live on W Coast and my acct transferred
over to Amherst.
I dont know about your accounts there but my office was transferred there and since then all the
accounts and people in my office have their accounts running out. It took a few weeks after being transferred there but finally they got all of them because they want that 1 hour TAT on accounts there and that is what they are trying to do. So I dont think it is a few isolated accounts. My office had tons of accounts that went up there on DQS and we are all in the same boat.
Ooops, transferred the 25 years old to your age at the time.
df
You'd need to ask the tech if your abbrns. in ESP could be transferred should you ever leave
s
Has anyone asked to be transferred out to an office that MIGHT be open for awhile. Is there anyone
in Amherst that is willing to get this situation taken care of or is that a lost cause.
I have been in the same boat since being transferred to Amherst. I have contacted New Jersey and
spoken with one of THOSE WOMEN and have gotten very little response other than oh we will see what we can do and things continue to just go on the way they were. I think it will take a lot of people calling Human Resources and emailing those 2 women or getting transferred or quitting that will change things MAYBE. Are many people quitting up there in Amherst. I know since my office has been transferred they are quitting now.
Just got transferred to the Amherst office and am wondering what to expect from that transfer.

Can anyone tell me anything about how they operate that office. Do you have work in your regular accounts without hundreds of backups or what is the situation.

My goodness, there are MQ offices crying for help. Gets transferred out of Amherst to Ohio or one of
the other offices. I will do that if they run me out of work at Amherst. I dont plan to stick around long if that happens.
Plans for THIS weekend?
Summer has gone by WAY too fast.  What are your plans for this weekend?  Anyone have a big weekend last weekend?  I am not sure what we are going to do.  Husband is playing in a golf tournament and I will probably take the kids swimming, maybe work a little.  Would be nice.
CHANGE OF PLANS
Check with your old job and see if you can stay (unless you REALLY hate it). At least that is what I would do.
Got any weekend plans?

It's so hot, I may just work instead.

My dinner plans
I am so sorry that your doggy had diarrhea all over your face. OH GEEZ, I didn't realize that is really what you look like - again sorry.
data entry

Has anyone done Data Entry jobs from home?  Thanks

I use Northstar Data .... I think they are
at www.MTFTP.com

I started using them in April, and their website and FTP are really easy to use. My doctors were new to digital, as was I, and we picked it up quickly.

hth!
We are more than data entry BUT...
Yes, they will still need us to copyedit and clean up the voice recognition and offshore "crude" product, but from what I've read on these boards, there's not going to be much money in this for MTs.

I too am thinking of leaving MT for another field. This summer my 15-year-old son got his first summer job as basically an unskilled laborer at minimum wage, and he was making quite a bit more per hour as I ended up getting, turning an Indy 500 ESL's mishmash into a perfect operative report. The day I learned that, I decided to start rethinking my career choices.

By the way, I'm one more experienced MT who finds it mind-boggling that people are still out there debating the merits of the various MT schools out there. Wake up and smell the coffee, people!
Backup data?

I'm glad this subject came up as we do some traveling and I was just thinking about this as well.  How is the best way to back up the data?  Just use a CD or someone mentioned a flash drive external hard drive?  Don't know much about this new fangled technology, so am finding this very interesting and helpful.  Thanks for the info.

data entry
I agree. But don't you know, there's always someone lurking in front of their keybord waiting to belittle someone else's from-the-heart question??
That study used very old data.
EHR has come a long way since 2004.
SAVING MY DATA

I have an external hard drive and want to save my data from my old computer to my new computer.  How exactly do i do that.

Copying data
Can anybody say how to copy a large amount of data to a DVD without having to copy one page at a time. It's a training program that I'm not going to be able to finish before the time runs out.  Since I paid for it, I want to be able to have it available to study on my own.  Thanks.
Did your husband know that the plans the mayor of NO used

were the same plans that were specified by the Department of Homeland Security when they did a simulation of this disaster in the 4 years prior?  When FEMA was absorbed by the DHS, they did simulations of events like hurricanes, earthquakes, etc.  In their simulation called Hurricane Pam, which was only simulated as a category 3, they said that the only place available as a shelter in this type of storm was the Superdome.  They studied this for years.  The mayor followed their recommendations.

As far as buses being available, the mayor made the public transportation system available for free but that was only inside the city of N.O.  He can't make private sector transportation services provide free transportation OUT of the city and then, again, he could have used the public transportation and the school bus system to transport them out of the city, but to where?  These people had no money - where were they going to go?  The only option the mayor had was to use the recommendations of the DHS and house them in the Superdome.  What other city was available in Louisiana that would have housed hundreds of thousands of people in shelters designed to withstand a category 4 (possibly 5) storm?  There was none.

There was an article published yesterday in which many administration officials described how FEMA would work since it was absorbed into the Department of Homeland Security and what the responsibilities would be if the president declared any disaster an incident of national significance.  It was an excellent article and very eye-opening.   FEMA isn't the FEMA we knew from years ago that could act independently and at a quicker pace.

Long Distance Plans

Can anyone suggest a long distance carrier that provides unlimited long distance at a reasonable rate for transcription purposes?  I have been told that I have to have a business plan because it is against government regulations to use your home phone line to surf the internet, etc.  I have to dial into a long distance number to get my work through a Lanier.  I have statellite internet so I do not think I can have Vonage or anything like that where it goes through your PC.  I currently pay over $100 a month with taxes and surcharges to have unlimited long distance on one phone line.  Is there anything better out there?

Had to cancel my plans again today to do MT (sm)

Although these doctors pay pretty well they are a pain in the neck.  I am about ready to give this up altogether.

I have tried other services and they only pay about half of what these guys do.  What next?  See items on E-Bay?

Long Distance plans
Depends on where you live. Do a Google search for your area. My employer told me AT&T was cheapest, but not in my area, ALL plans here run about 70+ a month for unlimited, but down south, AT&T was about $25/month. Big difference where you live. Hope this helps.
Family holiday plans (sm)

I just had to post this as it reminds me so much of a lady who posted about her family, saying that they were ungrateful.

I was going to take the Amtrak train to visit my family on Thanksgiving, it's only about an hour on the Amtrak, and about $80.00 for the ticket!  My stepmother says to me that it would be way to much trouble for them to drive the 15 minutes to the station to pick me up, they are having company that day.  My father would spend his whole Thanksgiving day going back and forth to the train station.  But I was welcome to come the day before Thanksgiving and stay until the day after Thanksgiving, that way they could drop me off at the train station when they didn't have company.  Company meaning her children, who have always come first.  So I am supposed to go to their house at an alloted time?  I'll be darned if I'm going to do that.

Now I'll be darned if I am going to pay $80.00 for a train ticket to spend a day with a family with this attitude.  I told them I won't be coming, I haven't had the time to spend 3 days there and have to work, and they said it would be too much trouble to pick me up at the train station on Thanksgiving.  Am I right or wrong in not going on Thanksgiving?  Any opinions?

AT &T and other co offer unlimited plans

We have an unlimited longdistace plan with AT&T for only $35 monthly I know there are a few other companies that also offer these type of plans. I would definitlly check into them if I had to pay longdistance charges.

I just got a letter too...please post what plans are available to us...TIA

What are your vacation plans this summer? sm
I'm getting married in 11 days so my week vacation afterwards will be spent honeymooning in Helen, GA, which is where we're getting married.
VoIP plans are the only ones without restrictions
x
They do offer individual plans, but they are SM
similar to my insurance at Spheris. A very high deductible, many out of pocket expenses, no prescription drug coverage. Basically, will cover hospital expenses. However, the most out of pocket with them was $5000.00 per year; with Spheris it is $10,000 per year. I believe it cost $250.00 a month.

You could look into it.
long distance plans
I live in NW Ohio and having a difficult time finding a LD carrier that allows for medical transcription.  Anyone have any ideas?
Here's some interesting AAMT data...

According to the October 2005 JAMT financial reportings:

Revenues from membership in 2003:  $1,053,516.

Revenues from membership in 2004:  $   920,681.

You'd think they'd get the idea with so many people not renewing memberships due to their stance on overseas work - especially since it's hitting them hard in the wallet!

Data Entry Jobs

Does anyone know where I can find information about legitamit companies that hire for data entry work at home. Looking for my daughter, who wants to stay home with her small child.  Thanks!

Is it transcribing or data entry?

Data Hand keyboard

I just received my new Data Hand keyboard and am starting to use it.  I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has used one of these.  Thanks.

Ours is "diagnostic data" and includes it all.NM

Data entry position
My post did show so I will ask again...does anyone know where I can find a listing of jobs for data entry positions?
certainly not data entry or typing,
my reward, aside from pay, is satisfaction that i am doing a very specialized job in an excellent manner. after 34 years, it seems more tedious and difficult, but i enjoy the work.
I am a midwife and i was attempting to deliver a baby, face presentation, and transferred to hopsita
was working with doc to try to reposition the baby without the face but wasn't successful and ended up with c-section. happy b-day to her!!!
A parrot may outlive you, so make sure you have plans

for where it will live after you pass.  I thought about getting a parrot, but I decided that it was too much of a responsibility considering how long they live and how much attention they need.  If they don't get attention, they WILL have a tantrum like a 2 year old, so make absolutely sure this is what you really want.  Also, parrots are LOUD, really LOUD.

I ended up getting female zebra finches and love them dearly.  They are not loud and because I have a cage with the seed catch, they aren't too messy.  Note: Boy zebra finches are loud, so avoid them if you can't handle the noise.  Girls warble, boys squawk.

Program worked well for me, but not the most economical of plans. sm

They do make it easy for you -- meals and snacks all ready, but when I did it 10 years ago, it averaged $80-100 per week, PLUS you still have to buy your milk and fresh fruits and veggies.  Still, it was a good plan for me.  I walked every day too, and managed to lose 50 pounds.  One of the things they taught me is true, though:  Your decision to quit exercising is your decision to gain back the weight.  Sure enough ... gradually, the exercise dwindled ... the eating habits slipped .. and the weight started creeping back.

The other poster who mentioned Healthy Choice and Lean Cuisine dinners is right -- you can supplement with them for a lot less $$.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

They don't want to look for their own jobs or figure out their own business plans. They want all
:+
Just 1 in 1 year. No plans to change in the near future.
