Why don't you just keep beating a
dead horse? Just to keep sparks flying? Can't you come up with something worth discussing once in a while?
Actually I am beating myself up. s/m

If my dad taught me anything it was "look out in front of you and see what's comming at ya so ya don't get tripped up."    Thus, in my lifetime I've been right about as many times as McCain voted with Bush.  Well this time I got totally tripped up.  Not because of Obama.  As you said, I now think he is nothing more than a well-planned out puppet. You are right on all things you said when I look at it retrospectively.  McCain could have contested the race, as I expected he would if he lost, yet he leaped out before it was  hardly dark and gave his concession speech.  A few days after their bitter rivalry Obama is consulting him????

I have a clear conscience because I voted the best I knew how, for what I thought MIGHT be change.  I really believe that evil took over this country in 1960.  The JFK assassination was never resolved to my mind.

Another thing that looks strange to me is all the righteous allegations that are causing congressmen to fall like flies...the latest being the Alaskan Senator and by the way.....WHY was Palin really  put on the Republican ticket?

I know that now is seems like I'm bashing the Democrats.  Let me be clear, I am bashing ALL politicians.  There is only one party running our government and it becomes clear in my mind that we are ruled by Clintons/Bushs/Cheny and McCain.  Obama, I think, is the perfect puppet.  If I had it to do over I'd go for my original plan and do a write-in for Lou Dobbs!!!  I certainly never intended to vote for more of the same!

I  may have to start eating those crow feathers now!!!!!

still beating that drum huh

Not getting much traction with that.

He's beating a dead horse.

Even Bush finally came clean and said there were none.  That's when the *reason* for the war changed from WMDs to freeing the Iraqis (while ignoring bin Laden in Afghanistan).

I find it very, VERY interesting that his sudden *find* came less than 24 hours after PBS aired a very revealing show (*The Dark Side*) about the Iraq war, Bush, Tenet, Rumsfeld and Cheney, with the majority of the people interviewed being CIA agents, who generally had more than 20 years of service with the CIA, and they said some pretty shocking (but not too surprising) things about this whole war.  (If you'd like to see this show, you can view it in its entirety on line by going to http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/darkside/; I'd personally recommend it.)

When it's all said and done, though, regardless of how many facts are presented, Santorum could have declared to the world that there's evidence that Saddam had SLINGSHOTS, and some unfortunate souls on these boards would still say, *See?  We told you he had WMDs.*  It's really difficult to even be upset, frustrated or angry with them any more.  I just mostly feel sorry for them.

You are beating a dead horse! (nm)
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Where's my dead horse beating stick???
The US went to war with Iraq for a number of reasons, including concern over Saddam's failure to account for WMDs, which put him in violation of the treaty that ended Gulf War I, and violation of several UN resolutions - I can never remember if it was 14 or 17.

If you really want an answer to this question, a search for the resolution permitting use of force in Iraq should be relatively easy. I'm not sure it's worthwhile, though, since the matter is essentially moot, since we are there now.

My question to you: There is a lot of discussion lately about possibly increasing troop levels in Iraq to try to bring the security situation under control. What are your thoughts on that? Do you support it? Would you support it if you could be persuaded that there was a reasonable possibility of success?

Personally, I'm a bit ambivalent. I don't have a problem supporting more troops, but I think it's as much a PC problem as a troop number problem in Iraq. In other words, I don't think US forces can do much to bring security to Iraq if they are forced to always act in the most P.C. manner possible so as not to risk offending any single faction or, heaven forbid, creating negative spin in the press.

I certainly think we could be effective there in securing the country, but only if we realize that we might have to leave a heavy footprint in Iraq in order to accomplish that goal. For example, I think we should have taken out al Sadr, even if it meant leveling significant portions of Sadr City, when he first became a major underming influence to the new Iraqi government. Some may think that makes me a flag-waving member of the Death Squad, but I have to wonder how many lives could have been spared in the long run had we stamped al Sadr out then, when we had a good tactical opportunity and could have done so fairly easily.

If we're going to send our troops over there in harm's way to fight for the security of Iraq, the dream of democracy, and the creation of a competing vision for the future of the Middle East, then we must let them fight to win.

moving on
still want to move to another country, preferably Canada..cant stand this country right now.  all of my beliefs and love for this country are down the tubes.
Moving on
to the "legalizing marijuana thread."  This one is getting boring and I need a toke!
another reason I am moving to the right.

moving this from below...some of the blame
I posted this below but will say it again.

some of the blame here has to go to the American people, those who did not support industry in the US. Rush out and buy those foreign cars. it may be cheaper in the short term but in the long run....no way, it will kill us all. Can't you all see the forest through the trees. Geez louise. Complain about losing jobs in the US, complain about American businesses failing and jobs from US going overseas and then buy foreign products instead of American made and what do you expect. Do you realize the far-reaching implications of the auto industry going bust???? All the suppliers affected. And all the money that would be earned by those millions of people who will now be earning, and thus spending, nothing. That is all money that would be supporting every other business, including ours as all of those people will also lose their health benefits and seeking less medical care thus less work and less profit for us. You can put blame anywhere you want but we all deserve some of it for destroying our own economy.
A lot of Californians are moving into
Arizona.  They want to change it and make it fast-paced like California.  We have a name for Californians here in Arizona but it isn't appropriate for this board.
Yeah, it's funny....but I think moving him around through all the...
different people and all the questions that were being asked was to keep him on the phone while the traces were taking place and authorities mobilized to go to his house. Whatever phone he called obviously is not the one Presidents of other countries call...lol.

Heck, maybe he figured some way of getting it off Jenna calling the White House on Ellen Degeneres' show. If they have last number re-dial at Ellen's show a lot of people probably have it...LOL. Does seem coincidental that she called the White House a few days ago and now he did...hmmmm. But no way of knowing if it was same #.

Bet he was surprised when the police showed up...lol.
Moving to top of board....this is important.
THE FACTS: McCain's phrasing exaggerates both of these claims. Palin is governor of a state that ranks second nationally in crude oil production, but she's no more "responsible" for that resource than President Bush was when he was governor of Texas, another oil-producing state. In fact, her primary power is the ability to tax oil, which she did in concert with the Alaska Legislature. And where McCain called Alaska the largest state in America, he could as easily have called it the 47th largest state — by population.

REBUTTAL:  She is responsible for negotiating any drilling of those resources. "Primary power" may be taxation, but she also has to oversee environmental issues, etc. She cracked the monopoly and forced oil companies to bid again, and she made a necessary portion of the bid that they address environmental issues. That was left out of the FACTS. While the population of the state may not be in proportion to the size of the state, her latest approval rating is 86%. That is unheard of. None of the other candidates enjoy that as senators from their respective states. That was also left out of the FACTS.

THE FACTS: While governors are in charge of their state guard units, that authority ends whenever those units are called to actual military service. When guard units are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, for example, they assume those duties under "federal status," which means they report to the Defense Department, not their governors. Alaska's national guard units have a total of about 4,200 personnel, among the smallest of state guard organizations.

REBUTTAL: When the National Guard is called up within a state, the governor does have the primary responsibility of mobilization and oversight. Since she is 50 miles from Russia, having control of the National Guard in that state is certainly central to our national security. And the operative word is AFTER the unit is deployed. Making the decision to call them up and send them to war IS her decision, and DOES affect national security.

THE FACTS: A Back-to-the-Future moment. George W. Bush, a conservative Republican, has been president for nearly eight years. And until last year, Republicans controlled Congress. Only since January of 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate.

REBUTTAL:  This is true. But if Democrats truly believe in hope and change, they have had since January to actually do it. Have seen zip, zilch, nada. Got news for you...Bush is not a true conservative, especially fiscally obviously. McCain is.

THE FACTS: It's true that Obama voted "present" dozens of times, among the thousands of votes he cast in an eight-year span in Springfield. Illinois lawmakers commonly vote that way on a variety of issues for technical, legal or strategic reasons. Obama, for instance, voted "present" on some abortion measures to encourage wavering legislators to do the same instead of voting "yes." Their "present" votes had the same effect as "no" votes and helped defeat the bills. Voting this way also can be a way to duck a difficult issue, although that's difficult to prove.

REBUTTAL:  Bottom line, he still voted "present." If he can't make a decision on those bills, he is going to be able to make the big ones to run the country? You can't vote present in the oval office. However, he did show up to vote NO to the Infants Born Alive act...twice.

THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.

Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.

He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes over $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.

REBUTTAL: Look at this and digest it. First paragraph...Obama's plan will raise income for middle income taxpayers by 5% by 2012...he does not define "middle class." McCain's plan is going to CUT taxes across ALL levels and still raise the "middle income" by 3%. I think I will take the tax cut and the 3%. No brainer.

Obama wants to provide 80 billion in tax breaks to people who already pay almost 0 taxes. Where, pray tell, is that $80 billion going to come from?? Taxing the "rich" which will trickle down to loss of jobs and depression of the economy. Won't work. Never works. Case in point..small businesses that make more than $250,000 would see taxes rise. That is about every small family business in this country, who employ a lot of people. Just throw them all under the bus in order to cut taxes for people who pay the least taxes of all of us ANYWAY.

NO THANKS.

The election is over. The results are in. Whether you are pleased or displeased with the results, it is time to show some class. Gloating is not attractive or very mature either nor is continuing to bemoan all of the dire predictions. I Both Senators Obama and McCain have said it is time for Americans to come together, to work together. How about starting here and now. McCain offered a very gracious speech. Can't we follow that fine example no matter what our personal feelings might be? Let us all behave with some class. We need to deal with the government we have and put our efforts into making it work as best possible instead of childish gloating or incessant complaining. Let's put our considerable energy and knowledge to a constructive purpose and just stop behaving so badly!
If you are all about moving forward, why dont you
nm
You cannot blame their moving on Obama -
They would have done that no matter who is in office and the auto bailouts started before this administration.
Today summed up in a moving video.

This was beautifully done!

First you say its alive like your cat is alive...
and then you say it is not alive. If it is not alive, why does it continue to grow? Do you think murder is wrong? If the baby survives abortion and is actually breathing it has a soul, right? So when Obama votes to let the infant die, he is condoning negligent homicide? Right?
The KKK is alive an well in the US...sm
Just on CNN, a woman was killed at a KKK initiation.  She was recruited on the internet.
The reason is because FL insisted on moving up the primary, despite being told NOT to. nm

Man alive.....there's no winning!
Now it's the republicans fault the bailout went through. Now, if they had held firm and NOT voted for it, and things continued to look bad for a while, you would have blamed them for NOT voting for the handout.

You just can't make up your mind.
alive, maybe, but no soul
I don't believe the fetus has a soul regardless of whether it moves or not. My cat moves too and I love her, but I don't fool myself into thinking she is a spiritual being. I have 2 children and yes it was exciting to feel them move, but honestly, it is just not the same for most Jews. We don't have baby showers, buy things for babies, decorate the room, etc. until after the birth when the child becomes "alive."

Hey - did you know that old bird is still alive?
seriously, she's like 96.  I bet she gets really offended when she hears people saying that her son is too old to be president or that he'll croak while he's in office.  I just assumed she was dead.  Learn something new everyday!
Of course racism is alive and well...sm
One explanation, and I know many people who did this....people wanted to be able to say that they voted in the first black man into the white house. And that is all well and good, but they did it only to be able to say they voted him in. Period.

Obama is long on style, short on substance....and extremely short on experience.

We've elected someone who's about to get on the job training.

I didn't even know she was still alive!! nm

Liberalism is alive and well
That's what I find so astounding. I go to blog sites and read intelligent, well-written critiques of seeded news articles - here, I am appalled by the lack of research and blatant racism wrapped in the American flag and flogged with the bible.
If McCain wins, I'll be moving to Canada...Montreal

If my grandparents and great parents were alive
They would slap me upside the head and say "Snap out of it. When I was your age I had to walk to school in the snow without a coat and shoes up hill - both ways". My grandmother would then call me pannywaste (whatever that is but when someone was wimpy she'd call them that), and my other grandmother would call me wimpy, whoos, or other words like that.

Our grandparents went through a depression, a couple of wars. They went hungry and went without. My grandfather told me his family was so poor he didn't even have shoes to go to school in. He had to wait for his brother to outgrow his so he could inherit them. They went through worse than us and they survived and they didn't have any government office telling them how to get through it.

I wonder if this new website was part of the spendulous plan (is this where our tax money is going?).

When are people who have any power to be able to do anything going to say enough is enough, your all fired. When people are inept and destroying a country (oops, mean corporation), it's time to fire them. Not them them spend more years in the seats continuing to put the country in ruins.

The (Illinois) Born Alive Infants Protection Act of 2002.
http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=107_cong_public_laws&docid=f:publ207.107

Obama blocked the Born Alive Infant Protection Act....sm
He said there was a law on the books in Illinois to protect these babies. In this article, he says there was a bill federally that he *would have* voted for. He killed the bill in Illinois by sitting on it as head of the Health and Human Services Committee. Which is it, Obama?

Excerpted from CNS News: Barack Obama is the most pro-abortion presidential candidate ever.

He is so pro-abortion that he refused as an Illinois state senator to support legislation to protect babies who survived late-term abortions...

...State and federal versions of this bill became an issue earlier this decade because of "induced labor abortion." This is usually performed on a baby with Down's Syndrome or another problem discovered on the cusp of viability. A doctor medicates the mother to cause premature labor. Babies surviving labor are left untreated to die.

Jill Stanek, who was a nurse at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Ill., testified in the U.S. Congress in 2000 and 2001 about how "induced labor abortions" were handled at her hospital.

"One night," she said in testimony entered into the Congressional Record, "a nursing co-worker was taking an aborted Down's Syndrome baby who was born alive to our Soiled Utility Room because his parents did not want to hold him, and she did not have the time to hold him. I couldn't bear the thought of this suffering child lying alone in a Soiled Utility Room, so I cradled and rocked him for the 45 minutes that he lived."

In 2001, Illinois state Sen. Patrick O'Malley introduced three bills to help such babies. One required a second physician to be present at the abortion to determine if a surviving baby was viable. Another gave the parents or a public guardian the right to sue to protect the baby's rights. A third, almost identical to the federal Born Alive Infant Protection Act President Bush signed in 2002, simply said a "homo sapiens" wholly emerged from his mother with a "beating heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord or definite movement of voluntary muscles" should be treated as a "'person,' 'human being,' 'child' and 'individual.'"

Stanek testified about these bills in the Illinois Senate Judiciary Committee, where Obama served. She told me this week he was "unfazed" by her story of holding the baby who survived an induced labor abortion.

On the Illinois Senate floor, Obama was the only senator to speak against the baby-protecting bills. He voted "present" on each, effectively the same as a "no."

"Number one," said Obama, explaining his reluctance to protect born infants, "whenever we define a pre-viable fetus as a person that is protected by the Equal Protection Clause or the other elements in the Constitution, what we're really saying is, in fact, that they are persons that are entitled to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a -- a child, a 9-month old -- child that was delivered to term. That determination then, essentially, if it was accepted by a court, would forbid abortions to take place. I mean, it -- it would essentially bar abortions, because the Equal Protection Clause does not allow somebody to kill a child, and if this is a child, then this would be an anti-abortion statute."

That June, the U.S. Senate voted 98-0 in favor of the Born Alive Infants Protection Act (although it failed to become law that year). Pro-abortion Democrats supported it because the following language was added: "Nothing in this section shall be construed to affirm, deny, expand or contract any legal status or legal right applicable to any member of the species homo sapiens at any point prior to being born alive as defined in this section."

Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer explained that with this language the "amendment certainly does not attack Roe v. Wade."

On July 18, 2002, Democratic Sen. Harry Reid called for the bill to be approved by unanimous consent. It was.

That same year, the Illinois version of the bill came up again. Obama voted "no."

In 2003, Democrats took control of the Illinois Senate. Obama became chairman of the Health and Human Services committee. The Born Alive Infant bill, now sponsored by Sen. Richard Winkel, was referred to this committee. Winkel also sponsored an amendment to make the Illinois bill identical to the federal law, adding -- word for word -- the language Barbara Boxer said protected Roe v. Wade. Obama still held the bill hostage in his committee, never calling a vote so it could be sent to the full senate.

A year later, when Republican U.S. senate candidate Alan Keyes challenged Obama in a debate for his opposition to the Born Alive Infant Bill, Obama said: "At the federal level there was a similar bill that passed because it had an amendment saying this does not encroach on Roe v. Wade. I would have voted for that bill."

In fact, Obama had personally killed exactly that bill. Source - CNS News
Take heart, MT ME -
...Maybe they will knock the comet into the earth on July 4th and we won't have to worry about SCOTUS anymore, LOL!

or hopefully not, heh...
Take heart, AG. sm
Not all Jews believe like this poster.  I was reading recently about a conference in Washington by conservative Jews, Ben Stein being among them, and a lot of others, including many Rabbis, who are distressed at the pro-abortion stance of some Jews, including the partial birth abortion stance.  Not all Jews believe the same, just as not all Christians do.    According to the Mishnah (Sanhedrin 4:5): Whoever destroys one life is as if he destroyed a whole world, and whoever preserves a life is as if he preserved the whole world.  This was quoted at the conference.  No one person speaks for all.  Thank God.
ive got more heart than you ever will
you have no idea about my life so don't assume i haven't seen someone (MANY) with a lot less than me.

2 things i lack? you're one class act i can tell. again, you have no idea about my life so to make a personal attack is ridiculous, ruthless, and sad
Please take this old saying to heart - sm.
"If one person tells you you're dead, seek a second opinion.

If 50 people tell you you're dead, lie down."

Do you think maybe there's a reason the overwhelming majority of people on here think JTBB is a douche? So, when "ONE" (gee, I guess that would be YOU) person starts stroking her monkey and kissing her a$$, don't be surprised that the "MOB" calls you on it.
heart of darkness?
Heart of darkness?  Because I want all to have their share in life and not suffer?  Heart of darkness?  WOW.  I would call the super rich who give nothing back to society the heart of darkness.  And to me Kruschev saying that was a dark mark on America that he was questioning how we, the richest country on earth, can have homeless when, Russia doesnt.  Yes, I believe in socialism.  Capitalism never has survived, it has always destroyed itself and from the way the world and America is going, Capitalism isnt gonna be around too much longer..It cant.  It is an ideology for the few, the rich few, not for the working masses.  No other industrialized country has capitalism like we do.  they meet the basic needs for their citizens..Do you know what some super rich call the working class..**the unwashed masses**.  I have a quite well off friend and he actually calls them that.  I was shocked when he said it in front of me..So you go ahead and defend the capitalist fat cats who think of us as **unwashed masses**.  I will defend the people.
Crushes my heart, actually
Doesnt it just crush your heart to think there are people out there that no matter how bad the country is being run, no matter that thousand are dying for a lie, no matter that hundreds died because FEMA just couldnt do the job, that senior administration officials outed a CIA operative, which endangered the United States and all who worked undercover with this operative, that Cheney met with oil officials, no doubt to create an energy policy favorable to the oil industry, on and on and on and on..they still defend this administration when the FACTS are in and more are coming in day in and day out.  An upright person would see what is going on and even though they are die-hard republicans, they would realize it is time to bring this administration to task because it is THIS administration not the whole republican party..but no, instead of attacking and questioning this administration, they choose to attack us, *little people* on numerous political boards throughout the internet..
Yes I have a heart and a brain
which are 2 things you lack.  If you were raped by your father would you have the baby?  Take a walk (not a ride) through the homeless or less than privledged areas in your community.  Get a grip lady - deal with reality and stop turning away every time you see someone who has alot less than you.  It's not murder you jack a-hole!
