Libby dear you're on our board

and we haven't asked you to leave yet, so you can't talk about us being here when you are there.  The double standard doesn't work here.

No dear.......just participating on the board
XX
Of course you're not, dear. Not too concerned about
rasberries
Dear I've just gotta, we're obviously...

...wasting our breath on these people.  When journalists give one another awards for agreeing with each other, is that really the measure of journalistic integrity?  Or just one hand washing the other?  That a conservative journalist occasionally gets such an award is probably just to avoid the perception that the liberals are rigging the game.

You're right. I don't come to this board often sm
as I have lots of other things to do. I saw Chris Matthews' name in the most-recent post, so decided to see what was going on.

I went to that letxa site. Nowhere could I find the author's name. It looks like an opinionated Republican blowhard's blog, and not one of any governmental authority.

That blogger believes Palin had that baby and he also doesn't seem to believe in global warming. Guess the world is still flat, too. I didn't bother to read any more of his blather when I couldn't find his name anywhere. It may be buried in there somewhere, but I couldn't find it. Perhaps you'll enlighten me?

So does this mean you're going back to your own board now, as you were

They're doing to this board what they're trying to do

to the whole country.  They're trying to take it over.  They want to control which God you believe in, who you love and what you do with your body, be it regarding life or regarding death.  If you don't voluntarily agree to turn your free will over to their control, they will hunt you down and nag you to death (since they can't do anything more violent on a message board).  It's obvious they are sick, sick people and need major help.

But they ARE like watching a car wreck and are sometimes hard to ignore.

I've thought about it, and for me personally, the very best thing to do is ignore them and for 2 reasons:

1.  Ignoring them and not reading their posts makes my visit on this board much more pleasant.  I already know I'm not missing anything because there isn't one post on this entire board written by them that has contributed anything of value or intelligence.

2.  If we all refuse to read and respond to their posts, they might give up and go find another board to terrorize.  I doubt that, though, because they've taken over this board and simply don't have the CLASS to leave.  They take pride in their bully on the playground mentality and are proud of their ignorant behavior.  They will probably just continue to pat themselves on their backs on this board.  The only thing that might startle them and cause them to stop is that the NUMBER of posts on the Liberal board are starting to increase heavily as a direct result of their posting.  In the past, they've used the Liberal board's lower numbers to trash us for not being as interesting, when, in fact, the CON board must be pretty boring if they are always choosing to be HERE instead.

Like I said, I've decided that I'd like my visits here to be pleasant, so I'm just going to stop subjecting myself to their cesspools of attacks.  They've proven their posts aren't worth wasting time reading, so I'm just going to stop and will feel much better as a result of stopping.

You're on the wrong board, aren't you?

If you're done with this board, fine. You don't see the truth

It was not Bush who sent the jobs overseas. The first Bush had a hand in starting it, but CLINTON expanded it to the crap we see today.

I live in a small community of garmet workers and shoe companies. All are gone now because of NAFTA. China bought the last shoe company (very well known for its quality shoes) in this area and promptly closed it a year later because they didn't want the competition for their cheap reproductions.

There are no jobs here and hasn't been any jobs here for the past 10 years. You wanna argue that point while I see all our workers collecting unemployment because now they are either too old or too poor to go to another county to get a job 30 miles away?

We have turned into a bedroom community for the people from NY, NJ, and Phila but that doesn't help the people who have worked hard all their lives to be pushed to the side because of NAFTA.

If the O gets in, it will definitely be worse. All you that work in a production job, banking job, etc. will not have a job. I would almost guarantee that within the next 4 years. If I'm wrong, okay. That would be great.

And, by the way, Ayers will not anser any questions the press asks, and he definitely should not be teaching our children in college.

Don't know which board or which specific Iranian you're referring to.

If you want me to read something, then post it, so I can, but please don't suggest that I go on some kind of wild goose chase on some other unnamed *board* for a post by some unnamed *Iranian.*  I simply don't have that kind of time.

If you don't think the Iranian president is nuts, then blame the media and the administration because that's he way he's been portrayed by both, and his actions sure suggest that he is.  Please post his redeeming qualities as you see them.

I posted this because I thought it was humorous, yet dead on accurate in the way a lot of Americans feel.

Get the picture?

Kinky. I think you're on the wrong message board.
Sicko!
Thanks Libby!
I must admit I am getting more than worried about the RW evangelicals. It is one thing to believe something, its another thing to try to legislate it so you can force your beliefs down someone else's throat. And yes, the Free Republic board is full of scary people, however, there are some normal people there too. By that I mean, not talking about how to kill all liberals etc.
Sorry Libby!
I've sorted through all my excuses and none of them work as good as a plain apology, so I apologize.

Thanks Rep for pointing that out as well!
Me too, Libby :o)
I cant wait till the Rove investigation wraps up too..and the Delay trial and the Frist situation..on and on and on..Some people say when I talk about corruption, strong arm tactics by lobbyists, cronyism and all the other baloney going on in DC..well, that is just the way politics works..I ask....WHY?  Why must we stoop to corruption, why cant we have a fair and trustworthy government?  It is possible.  Governments can be run ethically and above board. I too, Libby, am ashamed of America.  It is not the America I grew up with and I have no doubt it is not the America our founders had in mind.  Note:  To the republican antagonists who frequent the liberal board (for what reason, I have no idea), you are just wasting your energy typing a response to this post cause you will not get a response from me.  My post was intended for the liberals on this board.  Your neocon angry attack posts are not read by me..and it feels so good..
Very insightful, Libby!
Yes, a president they can relate to - perhaps even feel fondly superior too? Ok, that's a stretch, LOL.
You are beyond ignorant Libby
You are not one bit objective. You are consumed by hate. If you will look at the C-board you will see we are debating issues having to do with our president such as the Supreme Court Nominee and much to this board's generalization we've not all drank the Bush Kool-Aid. Calling us Bush groupies is grossly in error. You are sooo consumed with hate you would believe anyone but Bush....well, that tells us how far your hate has taken you.
Libby under indictment,

Rove in the grand jury for the fifth time. Claude Allen arrested.  The Wilkes-Cunningham prostitution scandal, Abramoff, DeLay, Enron...I am so glad integrity has been restored to the White House.

Libby, they are just licking their wounds. sm
They don't know what to do because their leader has been exposed in all of his grand incompetence.  Let them lick their wounds, they will get back on their board after a few weeks when there is a new story.
Good call Libby!
Of course the moderates will claim that they don't have any desire to support such blatant racial remarks. But who else do they support? Judith Miller. I've tangled with them before over Judith Miller. They love Judith Miller. Who is Miller's attorney? Robert Bennett, who just happens to be William Bennett's brother. Of course you can't pin one racist's badge upon another just because he happens to be the racist's brother. But did R. Bennett denounce his brother's remarks when talking to Wolf Blitzer today? No. All he did was get mad at Blitzer for asking a question about it.

Bush supporters on the whole seem to be woefully ignorant about who their leaders are, and how pervasive the corruption and racial snobbery are among them. They keep getting clues, but they keep ignoring them - maybe as you say, because the daring words that ought to be warnings just hit too close what they or many other Bush supporters talk about among themselves.
I'm glad you posted this too, Libby
x
Libby, one sick puppy
Bestiality, pedophilia and corpose robbery..this Liddy person is a MAJOR SICK PERSON..One sick republican puppy..they ought to frye his arse, along with Cheney..and take Bush along for the stupidity that he is..
Hey Libby, where's all the noble rich people?
Sure is a shame all those rich guys can't spring a buck for the effort. And where is the Republican base? - the pro-war screamers can't seem to put their money where their mouths are any more than they can bring themselves to enlist for the cause. Let somebody else do it, seems to be their motto!
And you keep posting LIbby..er..gt...er Dixie Doo. I would like to say you are entertaining but sm
that would be a lie.  Just the same old vomited up liberal tripe.
Hey, don't blame Libby, she didn't make it up.
That information is all over the blogs and they took it from the National Enquirer which, as you should know if you are paying attention, has long been thought to be a toy of the CIA.

AND, Laura Bush slipped up herself thinking she was off camera and made a comment about some event they were talking about, and said oh yes, that was the night we were ALL drinking! So it seems there may actually be some germ of truth in the story taken right from the horse's mouth.

But just shoot the messenger, eh!
No one is trashing Tillman's mother, Libby.
What an incredibly bizarre thing to say.  I guess that fits your bizarro alternate universe angry liberal planet view of the world.  How could anyone expect any more from you than that.  Not surprised.
I posted under Libby's post which brother up *other* families
Libby made it fair game.  She brought it up...
Hey, Libby, DeeDee and DixieDew, the neocons think we are the same poster, LOLOLOL
LOL, it is you who is far fetched.  So, now Im Libby, DeeDee and DixieDew?  You are comical, in kind of a sad pitiful way.  Kind of like an ancient demented aunt.
So you and your buds bash us on *your* board and suddenly, once you reach this board,

some respect?

You publicly post on the other board that you *try not to visit the bog of eternal stench.*

Well, doesn't look like you are trying all that hard. Or is that another example of Conservative honesty, like your buddy on the other board lies 3 times before suddenly deciding to be *up front* (in her own words) about the whole bogus line of crap she was spouting.

You and your 2 friends don't respect anyone unless they're a member of your little club, think exactly as you think, belong to the same political party as you belong, and believe in the very same little narrow SUBsection of one particular religion.

That's what I interpret from YOUR WRITTEN WORDS.  Your posts don't show respect.  They only show twisted *facts*, ignorance, anger and hatred.

You can't be *respectful* on your own board but suddenly, when you come here - HERE - the place YOU call *the bog of eternal stench* you suddenly discover some respectability during your mouse click from there to here?

Please.  Some of us aren't as stupid as you think we are.

You're becoming quite a bore.  You and your friends stated you don't want us on your board, but you're not happy unless you're picking a fight.  You and your *gang* told us to leave and not to post on *your* board.  Maybe that should work both ways.

Out of ALL the problems with radical Conservatives, maybe the most annoying thing is that you don't believe in equality at all.  You believe in SUPERIORITY.  Somewhere along the line, someone made you think you were special and above everyone else.  Sheesh!  You're not happy unless you're dictating to everyone else in the country what they're allowed to do in their own personal lives regarding life, death, science, etc. You even think YOUR GOD IS BETTER than everyone else's.

You want to make the rules, censor people and tell them which boards they can and cannot post on, but YOU want to invade them all and spew your ignorance and hatred.

In my heart, I believe there are sincere, honest, intelligent Conservatives out there who are capable of a sensible debate.  I've seen them.  (I hope you don't chase them away, too.)  But and your crew don't fall in that category, and this will be the last of your inane posts I will subject myself to.

Talk about stench. Just read your very own posts.

Can we bring the board back to the true reason for the board

Can we get the political board back to the true purpose of this board – to share opinions of why we like our candidate.  Not bash and cut down others because they don’t agree with you.

I stayed away from this board for the past couple days because anyone who had anything positive to say about Sarah Palin got slammed, bashed, kicked down, etc.  After awhile I found it all too draining, and was not seeing any reason to come.  Yes, I did see some of it towards people who favored Barack Obama, but if you read the posts again it is mostly towards anyone who favored Sarah Palin/John McCain.

I thought the political board was for posting information regarding politics and candidates.  What I have seen for the past few days is that it has been an attack board.  Especially if you have anything positive you want to share about Sarah Palin.  You say something good about her and you get attacked, you answer back, and you get attacked more, and then when you get mad and pretty much say stop attacking me, they come back with this “Geez, I’m allowed to have an opinion”.

Another thing I am tired of seeing is the slanderous, hate filled, really off the wall comments about Sarah Palin.  The latest was something about her daughter actually had her baby.  Talk about just bizarre comments.  I thought what’s next, she’s an alien from another planet?  The more I kept reading the more the comments were getting just really weird and bizarre.  Of course nobody ever having any proof of any of these allegations.  I then came to realize that the posters were just trying to get a fight going.

I also saw posts that had nothing to do with politics but attacking a poster named Sam.  Again, probably trying to get another fight going for no good reason and on things that have nothing to do whatsoever with politics.  I’ve read “Sam is like an annoying nat that you sway away”, “Sam, please let me know where you work” or “she must have her quota” or “sam is to the politics board as oracle is to the”  This childish rhetoric is getting old.  I’m not defending sam she is a big girl and I can see by her posts she can take care of herself, but my point is that this has nothing to do with politics.  If you want a fight maybe you could request that the administrator create a separate “fight and degrade” section.

I’ve read the administrators post a couple different times called Beware of Flaming.  She/he said as long as we realize that not everyone is going to agree we shouldn’t wear our feelings on our sleeves and a little more oversight on here would be good.  Let people express his or her opinion and move on.  If you don’t like someone just ignore that person. “It’s not rocket science, you know” (I liked that statement)

I consider posting on this board a privilege and not a right.  If you don’t agree with something and you post that you don’t agree and state the facts why (and are civilized about it) that’s one thing, but when you bash and degrade others without showing proof and just want to start fights and belittle others it just seems a bit juvenile to me.

I come to the politics board to hear ideas and stuff (facts) about the candidates.  That is how I’m learning about each one, but I don’t want to read people attack other posters for no good reason.  I'd like to hear about Obama/Biden & McCain/Palin, but I want to hear facts.

If you like to fight so much why don’t you pick on people that you can fight to face to face.

Your on the wrong board - you need to preach on the faith board
You just delivered a sermon (or quote). Either way it doesn't belong here. What does this have to do with politics. The democrat and republican party did not start up until after the 1800s. Socialism also wasn't created until the 1800s.

To me your post describes the way humans should treat other humans. This has nothing to do with politics - imho.

Because you posted on the Main board not Politics board.
It was removed, as we do not have an option of moving from Main to Politics.

This could have easily been avoided had you posted on the correct board.

The response from another poster to not post political viewpoints on this board was becuase you posted it on the Main board.
Oh dear...

I appreciate your time spent on the Chomsky quotes, however, they are out of context from the overall essay.  Some do seem a bit inflammatory, but I must admit I see the truth in a great many of them.  The US can be a great and noble country, but it often isn't and hasn't been.

Your last paragraph I don't understand - but I have grown tired and have to finish my evening's typing.

No, Dear.

Bin Laden isn't dead.  If he were dead, enlarged, beautifully matted and gold-framed photos of his bloody corpse would have been shown repeatedly on every television screen in the world.

Does it make sense, in your warped world, to go after the man who had NOTHING to do with 9/11 while ignoring the one who WAS responsible for it?  By the way, have you heard?  The Taliban has strengthened.  You have your president to thank for that.

But don't worry about another terra attack.  Ain't gonna happen.  Bush has repeatedly said he is the only one who can keep us safe.  Wouldn't be prudent to have another terra attack before he leaves office.

not quite dear
That is the complete opposite for me. I got to keep more of my money under Bush, plain and simple. And sorry my vote is not bought and paid for. That is ignorant to even say considering people are trying to "scare" me to vote for Obama because the tax breaks won't affect poor pitiful me. I get so sick of all the W bashing going on. I shudder to think of where we would be today if Kerry or Gore had won the presidency.
Sam, I can do you one better on dear

This was a quote he made back in 2003 -

‘’These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,’’ said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ‘’The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.’’

You know what they say about lying down with dogs......well, he was romantically involved with a dog, uh, I mean, executive from Fannie Mae.....

If I were him I sure wouldn't want my face plastered on any newscast anymore.

Oh dear...
LOL my bad, my bad.

And you, my dear, get an "F"....sm
Work it out for yourself.
my dear you need a
run for mayor or something
No dear, it's not..........
Our local police department has it in their little hands!!! BIL is assistance police chief and he DOES have it and I have seen it......... Even the local police here are puzzled as to why in the heck "conservative" is the title of the document...THEY KNOW IT IS A TARGET OF CONSERVATIVES.....too bad you don't have a clue or you should be very upset and concerned.

Furthermore, all receiving it was told to not let the GENERAL public see it even though they have every right to see it and our police dept is breaking absolutely no laws by letting the public see it....

It is a PUBLIC document!!
Okay dear....
I provided proof that he SAYS he is a Christian...then I went on to say BUT he doesn't act like one...hence the "you will know a tree by the fruit it bears"

Never mentioned anything about him being a Muslim, more than likely he is one of those hypocritical "Christians" who sits in church (Jeremiah Wright's for 20 years if you want to bring out skeletons) and gives lip service but in the end he's going to do what furthers himself.

Christians are called to glorify God in all that they do and to further God's kingdom. By killing what God says is good (children) and promoting what God says is an abomination (gay marriage) he is definitely not doing that.

Which leads me to the conclusion that he is not a true Christian!

Do YOU get it now?
Oh dear.

The bottom line is that no matter how uncomfortable waterboarding is, terrorists do not fall under protection of the Geneva Convention.  Also, Pelosi was briefed on this type of interrogation and her story is fastly crumbling apart.  The only reason I want them to go after Pelosi is to show that the dems knew about this too and didn't seem to have a problem until now.  Just like a lot of dems didn't have a problem with going to war in Iraq until now.

As for Hannity...if the best rebuttal you have is that we shouldn't waterboard terrorists because Sean Hannity won't do it for charity.....well....our conversation is done here.

Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear oh dear.
So it's all right to do what's necessary to save one life, but not a much LESS harmful action (we do it to our own troops) in order to save thousands.

Nothing more can be said to someone who thinks this way except that I'm glad you're not teaching logic anywhere - or is there a Liberal Academy of Doublespeak somewhere that I don't know about?
Whatever you say..dear...
--
the conservative board is a liberal board now
you all aren't happy until you infect everyone out there with your hatred.   It's not something I'd very proud of.
Dear Anon. SM
This site is no more being hijacked than the conservative board was some time back.  Most of us have stayed on one board or the other.  sm has offered to stay on the conservative board from now on, but was told she need not.  Which is it, pray tell?  As for me, I post here rarely and usually in respons to something quite specific.  After this post, I will not venture here again.  I do indeed hope this makes you all happy.
Dear Laughing A**. SM
I mean a collective you, as in the same mindset, much as you are.
Dear Red States
Dear Red States...

We've decided we're leaving. We intend to form our own country, and we're
taking the other Blue States with us.  In case you aren't aware, that
includes Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan,
Illinois and all the Northeast. We believe this split will be beneficial to
the nation, and  especially to the people of the new country of New
 California.

To sum up briefly: You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states. We get
stem cell research and the best beaches. We get Elliot Spitzer. You get Ken
Lay.  We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Dollywood. We get Intel and
Microsoft. You get WorldCom. We get Harvard. You get Ole' Miss.   We get 85
percent of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama.

We get two-thirds of the tax revenue, you get to make the red states pay
their fair share.  Since our  aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower
than  the Christian Coalition's, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a
bunch  of single moms.

Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and anti-war, and
we're going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need
people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they're apparently
willing to send to their death for no purpose, and they don't care if you
don't show pictures of their children's caskets coming home. We do wish you
success in Iraq, and hope that the WMDs turn up, but we're not willing to
spend our resources in Bush's Quagmire.

With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80 percent of
the  country's fresh water, more than 90 percent of the pineapple and
lettuce,

92 percent of the nation's fresh fruit, 95 percent of America's quality
wines (you can serve French wines at state dinners) 90 percent of all
cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the U.S. low-sulfur
coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven
Sister schools, plus Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT.

With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88
percent of all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92
percent of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the tornadoes, 90
percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern Baptists, virtually
100 percent of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University,
Clemson and the University of Georgia.

We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.

Additionally, 38 percent of those in the Red states believe Jonah was
actually swallowed by a whale, 62 percent believe life is sacred unless
we're discussing the death penalty or gun laws, 44 percent say that
evolution is only a theory, 53 percent that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and
61 percent of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals
 then we lefties.

By the way, we're taking the good pot, too. You can have that dirt weed
they  grow in Mexico.

 Sincerely,

 Author Unknown in New California.

Now, now, dear, it's not nice to lie.

 I said no such thing.

And one of the other voices in your head has already judged me and declared that the Rapture will pass me by, which is fine with me.  Would prefer to spend eternity with those who are nice, loving, kind and HAPPY.

No, my dear, YOU are the liar.

Scarborough's record is public and well known.

So is the objectivity and blatant refusal to ever tell the truth of Bush and his worshippers.

Bush isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.  I can see why you love him.

Why don't you go back to the CON board?  You're showing your colors more and more with each post, and they ain't a pretty sight.

Dear Teddy....
you are So very angry, because you are so frustrated. And the way you post is far from *sassy.* I will leave it at that.
Oh, my dear, that is so untrue.

General Giap of the North Vietnamese army wrote his memoirs after the war.  He posted that the antiwar movement in the United States gave the North Vietnamese hope after Tet, when they were decimated and ready to surrender.  It gave them hope, prolonged the war, and eventually led to our precipitous departure.  No, I am afraid you are wrong about your facts.  Here's the post from the 1st Cav.

Tet Offensive -- Monica
what are the cause and effects of the TET offensive? and who won this campaign? I don't really get this event! can someone tell me the story in a easier version?  I am in the 9th Grade. Monica,

Here is an answer to a very complex question.  The Tet Offensive of 1968 was an initiative of the North Vietnam Army to have the civilian population of South Vietnam join them in their offensive and efforts to overthrow the South Vietnam Government, forcing the withdrawal of the United States Armed Forces.

The Tet Offensive of 1968 was conceived by General Giap, commander of the North Vietnam Army and his staff.  General Giap earlier in his career planned and executed the battle at Dien Bien Phu which drove the French out of Vietnam in 1954.  During the battle of Dien Bien Phu, General Giap stated  he was willing to lose 10 men for every 1 enemy soldier killed, which indicated that a person's life in Vietnam was cheap.

By the end of 1966, North Vietnam had suffered large causalities in manpower and supplies through the bombing of the North and the fighting in the South. They consider the war was at a stalemate. North Vietnam would need a major victory if they would continue on with the war. Thus the planning for what is known as the Tet Offensive began with General Giap (Commanding General of the North Vietnam Army) and his staff.

The battle of Khe Sanh (Jan. 21, 1968) was the prelude to the Tet Offensive of January 31, 1968.  The battle at Khe Sanh was similar to that of Dien Bien Phu in which the Vietnamese had surrounded their enemy and cut off all land routes for supplies and evacuation.  Khe Sanh had two objectives besides the obvious objective in defeating the Marines.

1. Diversionary tactic to draw American attention away from the cities of South Vietnam and more towards Khe Sanh.

2. Remind the people of South Vietnam of another battle that took place 14 years earlier at Dien Bien Phu, which would encourage South Vietnamese to join the VC in throwing out the Americans as they did with the French.

The North Vietnamese Army fought the battle at Khe Sanh and the National Liberation Front (VC) fought the Tet Offensive, which attacked the cities and provinces throughout South Vietnam.

It should be noted that NVA units who were not participating in the Khe Sanh siege supported the VC in their attacks on the cities during the Tet Offensive.

National Liberation Front - (Also Known As) Viet Cong or VC were comprised of South Vietnamese civilians and North Vietnamese advisors who lived in the cities and villages throughout South Vietnam.  They were part of the North Vietnamese forces in reuniting the two countries as one.

A cease-fire began on January 30, 1968 for the Vietnamese new year of Tet, which falls on the first new moon of January. On January 31, 1968 the Viet Cong broke their cease-fire and attacked many cities and provinces throughout South Vietnam. In Saigon, a small number  of VC (19) were able to reach the American Embassy grounds, but did not gain entry into the embassy itself.

In the Northern part of South Vietnam, the city of Hue was taken over by the V.C. and executions of city officials and their families took place.  The initial reporting indicated the number of people executed was in the thousands (2,300 persons executed in and around Hue during Tet 68 - Time Magazine 31 Oct 69).

Saigon was the center for most if not all of the news agencies that were covering the war in South Vietnam.  Tet offensive of 1968 was the first time, during the war, that actual street fighting took place in the major cities.  Rear support personnel and MP’s did the initial fighting by American troops until support from infantry and armor could arrive. These men did an outstanding job in defending the cities, airfields and bases along with the embassy. The news media were able to capture this street fighting on tape in addition to the attack on the American Embassy. This new offensive was immediately brought into the homes of American families through reporting by television and the press. The sensationalism of this reporting brought forth a misrepresentation of the actual facts that took place during the Tet Offensive of 1968. The reports led the American people to think that we were losing the war in Vietnam and that the Tet Offensive was a major victory for North Vietnam. This was not the case. The VC suffered such high casualties that they were no longer considered a fighting force and their ranks would have to be replaced by North Vietnamese regulars. The civilian population of South Vietnam was indifferent to both the current regime in South Vietnam and the Viet Cong. The civilian population, for the most part, did not join with the VC during the Tet Offensive.

The Wall Street Journal published an interview with Bui Tin who served on the General Staff of the North Vietnam Army and received the unconditional surrender of South Vietnam on April 30, 1975. During the interview Mr. Tin was asked if the American antiwar movement was important to Hanoi's victory. Mr. Tin responded It was essential to our strategy, referring to the war being fought on two fronts, the Vietnam battlefield and back home in America through the antiwar movement on college campuses and in the city streets. He further stated the North Vietnamese leadership listened to the American evening news broadcasts to follow the growth of the American antiwar movement. Visits to Hanoi made by persons such as Jane Fonda, former Attorney General Ramsey Clark and various church ministers gave us confidence that we should hold on in the face of battlefield reverses. Mr. Tin surmised, America lost because of its democracy; through dissent and protest it lost the ability to mobilize a will to win. Mr. Tin further advised that General Vo Nguyen Giap (Commanding General of the North Vietnam Army) had advised him the 1968 Tet Offensive had been a defeat.

The military defeat of North Vietnam after the Tet Offensive of 1968 became a political victory for North Vietnam because of anti-war demonstrations and the sensationalism of the news media.   The North Vietnamese interpreted the U.S. reaction to these events as the weakening of America's resolve to win the war.   The North Vietnamese believed that victory could be theirs, if they stayed their course.

From 1969 until the end of the war, over 20,000 American soldiers lost their lives in a war that the United States did not have the resolve to win.  The sensationalism by the American news media and the anti-war protests following the 1968 Tet Offensive gave hope to Communist North Vietnam, strengthening their belief that their will to succeed was greater than ours.  Instead of seeking a successful resolution at the Paris Peace Conference following the disastrous defeat of the 1968 Tet Offensive, they employed delay tactics as another tool to inflame U.S. politics.  This delaying tactic spurned further anti-war demonstrations.  Those who sensationalized their reporting of the war and those who supported anti-war demonstrations are guilty of giving our enemy hope. Because of their actions, they must share partial responsibility for those 20,000 + Americans deaths.

We won the war on the battlefield but lost it back home on the college campuses and in the city streets.

Dear Girlfriend(s)
Now if someone would have just blown Bush say....6 or 7 years ago, we could be rid of him already. If I wasn't such a big homo, I'd have volunteered myself.
Nite Gracie.
