Yep. That sliding board keeps getting bigger and bigger

After watching the mayor of Phila. go to Washington today to beg for a few BILLION to bail that cityout, what's next?

No, he wasn't running, but the backlash against his 8 years of - sm
bloodshed and idiocy was resounding. He wasn't running, yet he essentially lost the race for the Republicans -- that and their lack of viable candidates or sensible direction, of course.
Her lies keep getting bigger and bigger
Everytime she speaks all I can hear playing in the mind is a song from the 1970s by Three Dog Night called "Liar". She should be put on the spot and made to face her lies. This baloney about her remembering it differently is just a bunch of hooey!
Evil constant attacks on Palin are about to bring the biggest backlash
I believe you may have cost yourselves the election with the horrendous extent this was taken to.
Even bigger than this?

A radio talk show host just said that...and I agree. This is the big story the left was looking for to TRY and nail Bush. Well, I hope they can live with their collective conscience that is if they even have one. I'm starting to believe they don't.

Even bigger WOW!!!! sm
I so agree with you on this! Shocker, huh? LOL

There are so many different systems in place right now that it is ridiculous. In my precinct, we still use the old pen and paper method which, though it probably has its flaws as well (stray pen marks, crumpled ballots, etc.), is definitely an easier system to navigate for voters, especially elderly voters who don't know how to use the more sophisticated systems. I have read and heard of numerous instances in which elderly voters have to be helped to use the machine systems. Everybody knows how to use a pen and paper....whether they use it intelligently or not is a whole 'nuther matter for debate. ;O)

I also think that a standardized method would speed up the process of counting votes and minimize the possibility of error....stray pen marks, hanging chads, etc.

The picture is even bigger than you think.

More smoke and mirrors from Bush.

This is bigger than politics....sm
A friend of mines posted this on another site and wants me to share the word. Her husband is on assignment in Iraq now.

As you all probably know I am a very proud wife of a Military Soldier. It is an honor, privelege and the toughest duty anyone woman can have. At times my fears get the best of me. And although I cannot imagine my life without my husband, I am in a marriage where his life is on the line daily and I have to remain strong not only for myself but for our 4 sons. This is going to really hit you emotionally and some of you may not even get through however you will see the purpose at the end. I live each day like its my last and this is the reason why.

Last week, while traveling to Chicago on business, I noticed a Marine sergeant traveling with a folded flag, but did not put two and two together. After we boarded our flight, I turned to the sergeant, who'd been invited to sit in First Class (across from me), and inquired if he was heading home.

No, he responded.

Heading out I asked?

No. I'm escorting a soldier home.

Going to pick him up?

No. He is with me right now. He was killed in Iraq ..

I'm taking him home to his family.

The realization of what he had been asked to do hit me like a punch to the gut. It was an honor for him. He told me that, although he didn't know the soldier, he had delivered the news of his passing to the soldier's family and felt as if he knew them after many co nversations in so few days. I turned back to him, extended my hand, and said, Thank you. Thank you for doing what you do so my family and I can do what we do.

Upon landing in Chicago the pilot stopped short of the gate and made the following announcement over the intercom.

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to note that we have had the honor of having Sergeant Steeley of the United States Marine Corps join us on this flight. He is escorting a fallen comrade back home to his family. I ask that you please remain in your seats when we open the forward door to allow Sergeant Steeley to deplane and receive his fellow soldier. We will then turn off the seat belt sign.

Without a sound, all went as requested. I noticed the sergeant saluting the casket as it was brought off the plane, and his action made me realize that I am proud to be an American.

So here's a public Thank You to our military Men and
Women for what you do so we can live the way we do .

Red Fridays.

Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the silent majority. We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing.

Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends,
simply want to recognize that the vast majority of
Americasupports our troops. Our idea of showing
solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -- and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that ... every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar, will wear something red.

By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United Stateson every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers. If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and family, it will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once silent majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on.

The first thing a soldier says when asked What can we do to make things better for you? is ..We need your support and your prayers. Let's get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear something red every Friday.

WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, ONLY BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE!!
You really need to look at the bigger picture
Of course you care about your interest rate on your home, but neither candidate is going to 'solve' this horrific crisis, because there is no ONE reason for it! It is very complicated but as Americans, its our responsibility to TRY to understand it better so that we can demand the right course of actioN from ALL parties involved.

ONE FACT: When wages are stagnant an economy cannot grow - and that DEFINITELY is playing into what is happening in the financial crisis. Ask yourself which candidate is for INCREASING wages and fighting for equal pay for women and men...

Don't depend on SAM or anyone else to help you decide, use the power of the internet to educate yourself.

IF you like war and bleeding the treasury to ensure we have more of it, and more enemies to boot, then McCain is your man.

Im not enamoured of Obama either, so I'm not selling him to you either. That said, he ALWAYS opposed Bush's fake war - which has cost us HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS. Gee, where could we have put that $ to better use? Remember IRAQ did not attack us in 2001; the majority of attackers came from SAUDI ARABIA.

Why? Because they demanded we remove our military bases from their lands and we did not comply. After they attacked us, we attacked Iraq and guess what? WE MOVED THE MILITARY BASES TO IRAQ to appease Saudi Arabia.

Think this has nothing to do with you getting a good rate on your new home?

THINK AGAIN. As long as Americans choose their leaders based on cute lines in debates, we are destined to be robbed again and again and again.

You must look at WHAT THEY WILL DELIVER based on their past record. MCCain will give you more of the last 8 years.

But again, that's my opinion. Please care enough to do your own research, which you will believe more than anything a stranger tells you anyway.

We are in bigger trouble than we know

It may just be way too late for Obama to get us out of the horrible mess we are in. We are fiddling while Rome burns - I sound like Chicken Little but indeed the sky IS falling - Frightening!

...."If we can use the Baltic Dry Index (BDI) as a guide for the next 12 months of product delivery and food availability in the stores we shop in then the BDI says shelves will be virtually empty of almost every product we use each and every day. Is the BDI is wrong it will be an historic first. The BDI is used by bankers, financial experts, brokers, traders and everyone in high end finance to assess the global financial condition and the availability of products worldwide. The BDI has dropped 94% in a short few weeks which means raw materials, grains, ores, steel, iron, cement and all imported products for food manufacturing and product manufacturing even though we actually do very little of that here in the US."

Here is the bigger problem
O says he is going to be transparent and "change" how things are done.  Haven't heard ONE thing about where that money went.  They aren't doing anything about it.  That is an even bigger problem because we have four long years ahead of us still to come.
You probably need to get a bigger teleprompter as I see
you are all stumbling in your reply here.  Duh?
Bush is by far a bigger embarrassment than

All Clinton should have said was "No comment" in regard to the whole Monika disaster.  He should not have lied, but I really don't think it was any of our business what he did behind closed doors sexually, so I think he should not have commented at all.  Bush's string of ignorant comments and actions are far more embarrassing/damaging to this country than anything Clinton did or said.  I die a little inside each time I see President Bush on TV or read about another dumb thing he said.  It bothers me so much!!!  He makes us all look bad, and he is soooo cocky.  Disgusting. (btw, I'm not voting for Hilary.  Just wanted to point out why I think Bush is a much greater embarrassment than the Clintons!)

I needed to correct my statement. I do think it is a problem that people do not vote on the issues, just do not think it is a new problem. Just brought out more prominently this time because Obama is black.

Well, since you brought it up......

Why the heck can't BLACKS be just plain AMERICANS like the rest of us????  I don't see myself going around saying I'm Irish-Native American-American.  Let's let the racist crap go, shall we?

And by the way, I DID answer you.  Sorry it wasn't quick enough to suit you.

VOTING FOR LOU DOBBS!!!!

He has brought it up
along with all the other questionable associations Obama has, but no answers have been given. Obama said that he did not agree with the things Wright said, but that was really all the explanation he gave and he refused to answer any other questions about it. I would like to hear answers about that, too, but I just don't see it happening - he's too much of a friend of the media to have to answer to anything.

smokers and I was just trying to explain how I can love and care for someone but hate what they do....so I used my father and his smoking.

As for smoking....it is too a sin.  Technically anything that we take into our body that harms it is sinful.  Our bodies are supposed to be temples to God.  That is why for so many years ear piercing was bad and some people still consider tattoes bad.

my fingers have a mind of their own...
The OP brought up her concerns....
I brought up mine. I find mine more concerning than hers. And I don't understand why Democrats accept certain behavior in their own and lamblast the other side for the same perceived weaknesses. Why is that?
I have brought it up earlier on here but
O lovers immediately jumped on the Palin bandwagon again. They are so worried about Palin being a "heartbeat away from possibly being president" but they couldn't care less than Biden may very well be just a heartbeat away....period!

They seem to think Obama will live forever, even though both his parents died young AND he was a heavy smoker, drugger, and drinker.
They seem to have no concern about that.

YOU are the one who brought up Mccain
I was just showing you that they both have said that.

You Obama supporters always say "give me fact give me proof" and then when someone does you get mad.

I never said Mccain didn't say that, just saying it isn't a very good argument because THEY BOTH have said it.
I brought up Russia............sm
because it was an example of basically an exact opposite from what America is. You seem to want to live completely opposite than Americans have lived for the 150 (give or take) years before Madelyn Murray O'Hare started raising Cain (no pun intended) about prayer in schools, etc. While I realize atheists did exist prior to her time, for the most part, they pretty much "lived and let live" much as Christians did with respect to co-existing with them. That is more what I would call "tolerance" rather than getting all up in arms because God's name appears on the currency that puts a roof over your head, food on your table and clothes on your back.

As to the issue of Christian gays and lesbians, I really feel that is a subject more for the Faith forum and would happily discuss it with you there sometime as I have opinions on that as well. (are you surprised? LOL)

Marriage is a union between a man and a woman period. Unless you are married to a woman, then of course I feel your marriage is valid and certainly not worthless. You are really stretching the limits of common sense on this subject with your suppositions.

Your next to last statement is absolutely correct. There is only one way for true Christianity and that is based solely on the teachings in the Bible. People who do not believe the Bible do see it as divisive and intolerant, but like Paul said "the preaching of the cross is foolishness to those who do not believe." Again, another fascinating subject for the Faith forum, but I would state that it is not Christians who seek to divide this nation but unbelievers who do because of their unbelief.

With all that said, JtBB, I will say this. I find you a very interesting person and really enjoy debating issues with you and hope you realize that just because our opinions clash some, okay most, of the time does not mean that I don't like you. :o)
The longer this goes on, the bigger terrorist breading ground sm
Iraq becomes. This is getting past ridiculous. Now, I don't think we should just pull out, but I think we need to let them have it, and there will be more US casualties, and get out ASAP.
I just heard billions of dollars in bigger government...

This pearl of wisdom is brought to you by
someone who proved herself ridiculous 500 posts ago....
I, for one, am glad this topic was brought up
You NEVER hear about this on the news. For most people, hearing about how much children are suffering would take the fire out of their battle cry real fast. I agree that a bullet shot by a 15 year old kills just as readily as one fired by an adult. But how do you blame a child for acting out in the only way it knows how? These kids do not know any other way. You cannot, however, go to these kids and tell them that the way they know is WRONG, you have to show the child there are other ways to do things and let THEM decide. Again, shoving ideals and religions down their throats will only make the situation worse.

It is unbelievably important that we leave these kids with the a better impression of America. They are the future of the Middle East and if there is ever going to be peace, those kids are the key.
You brought up some good issues
I don't like unessessary (sp?) bashing of anyone. That is disturbing to me hearing about the comments she made on the radio show. On one hand she'll say she's a Christian and on the other hand she will laugh at the expense of hurting others feelings.

As for what the candidates say during campaigning....it's happening on both sides. I don't like it. I don't like it when it happens to Obama, McCain, Biden or Palin. I think they are all doing the best job they know how to get elected.

With that said, everyone seemed to focus on Palins speech and how she took shots at Obama/Biden, but when I listened to their speeches last week during the DNC they were doing the same thing to Palin and McCain. Then the media made me totally nauseaus(especially MSNBC). They were laughing at what Obama, Biden, Michelle, and other speakers were saying, but when the republicans said something the media said it was appalling, they're attacking, etc, etc etc. Everyone is saying things about the other side. Some of it may not be funny and a lot of it may not be true but I guess seeing as its an election I can understand why they are doing it.
The constituents who brought her their concerns...
does freedom not extend to them also? They don't have a right to at least ask about the books? Which is what they did...and she took their concerns to the city council, which is her job as mayor. Why do you seek to curtail others' freedom in the name of freedom? They did not get what they wanted, but they certainly should have the freedom to ask and be heard. Isn't that exactly what you are saying we must protect??
glad you brought up Gorelick

She's a real dandy, dontcha know.

Another one of the NAGS, carefully hidden away until "time."

We have brought home 2 soldiers
recently to our town, unfortunately, it was too late for them.
I have pictures of O being brought up in Kenya
where he went to school and going to school there costs a lot of money.  I am talking about K-8 grade, not in America and that is during his younger years.
Ok, you brought back credibility to yourself LOL
I'm glad you laughed about my remark. I was waiting to get blasted. :-)

I read the link you provided. Good article. DH reads AOL. I won't read Fox or MSBNC or the others that have an agenda. I think she's a very smart woman and at least she understands the economics we are facing.

I do care about what she says and does in her state. I do hope we see more of her and am sure she has learned a lot because of the campaign. DH & I were saying that when she was running that if McCaina and she lost we would think about moving to Alaska to have her as our governor. However, winter is settling in up there and it's just a bit too cold for us (we would absolutely freeze).

Thanks again for the link - you restored my confidence in you. HA HA

They haven't been brought to trial yet....(sm)
because a) some of them would be innocent and would have to be set free, and b) Bush obviously had no plan for those who would be found guilty.  Actually, about half of them haven't even been charged yet, much less had a trial.  I honestly think the whole point of Gitmo is torture.  I think that Bush actually thought it was a viable means for gaining information, which has been proven to be incorrect.  Basically, the longer they can keep them there, the longer they can torture.
You brought up a great point. (sm)

I agree, we MUST purchase these things under law or under terms of a mortgage agreement.

But the premiums we pay are in line with what we're insuring.  For example, we're not forced to pay the same premium for a two-bedroom home that a multimillionaire would pay for a 56-room mansion.  We're not forced to pay the same premium for a 1980 Chevy that a multimillionaire would pay for a Rolls Royce.

That distinction doesn't hold true with medical "insurance," and that's partly where the problem lies.
