Protocol, etiquette (and plain good sense)

Is there no one advising the prez & co. on protocol and/or etiquette or even basic manners anymore?

When you bow to a monarch, you are  placing yourself as one of his subjects, or at least as subordinate in rank.

On the other hand (no pun intended)  when a gentleman meets a lady, (not just a queen) it is proper for him to wait for the woman to initiate contact.  A man waits for the woman to extend her hand for shaking...or not.  And only a dolt of either gender puts his/her arm around somebody to whom s/he has just been introduced.  Puh-leeze!

I know that some adjusments have been made in the business setting, but this does not take the place of knowing the proper thing to do in a social or political situation.  I do not think the rules of manners and civility have changed overnight, have they?

Christians who had the good sense to MANDATE
an American tradition now for 232 years. You will NEVER, establish Christian theocracy in our nation. Let me say that again. NEVER.

Hmm, protocol, rule of law,
Interesting concepts, pitty the administration you support has apparently never heard of them. So let's gut the constitution (no laws in there) so it suits you and your ilk. Outing a covert CIA agent isn't a felony, right? DeLay and Frist? They INVENTED proper protocol/rule of law/ethics. Telling the U.N. and the international community to take a flying leap also clearly falls within the parameters of proper protocol, rule of law, etc., etc. Boy, you might be on to something!

When asked what he thought of western civilation, Gandhi said something like, It's a nice concept. Hmmm...democracy, nice concept.
According to homosexual protocol
the Christian must also love the behavior of the homosexual because the homosexual can't seem to separate the two. A Christian sees people-men/women who sin, not homosexuals. It is the person who commits homosexual acts who wishes to be portrayed as homosexual/gay. Can you love a criminal without loving the crime? Can you love a "homosexual" without loving the homosexual act? Not according to those who engage in such acts. Be careful of the smoke screen.
Sadly, common sense and good behavior...........sm
are seldom rewarded but highly expected and those who practice sound financial habits are often not given the breaks that those who do not are given. It just seems harsh to say "screw them" when one may not know the circumstances and when there may be children involved who would be homeless through no fault of their own. Guess I'm just a little tender-hearted about that.
Who says Obama doesn't have a good sense of humor?

And you are just plain genious - right??? sm
Widge, I was as nonconfrontational as not to even post my opinion under your comment to heartsick, and I'm the dingbat just because you don't like my opinion. LOL. Go for something more original next time.

Seriously, you are not the only person I have heard say that, or else I would not have paid it much attention. That statement has become government policy, rhetoric, whatever you want to call it on Iraq, which would be agreeable if it were directed to our efforts against the Taliban in Afghanistan. The people who attacked us on 9-11 followed us into Iraq, not the other way around. You were there in the beginning so you know that is true.

The jury is still out on whether Iraq is a safer and better place as a result of the war, but I hope you are right.

It may come as a surprise to you, but I don't want us to up and leave the Iraqi people stranded either. We owe them more than that, even though we have given much already. I don't want two generations from now to be fighting a stagnant war in Iraq either. The other points you brought up are either debatable or agreed.

Sam, you are just plain wrong. That is just...sm
more republican propaganda.
There's plain ol' rich, and then there's
Like yer Wall Street execs, bank CEO's, etc. Even worse our this nation's spoiled, mollycoddled pro athletes.

Does any of their wealth trickle down to us? Nope. The more tax breaks and loopholes they get, the more we have to take up the slack and fill in the gaps.

If they can pay a football player $38 million to play a stupid game, then I think those of us who actually work for a living should at least get a few more cents per line.
Now this is just plain ignorant
Of course we'll be taxed REGARDLESS of which figurehead gets put in office.

Get a clue though my friend, the REpublicans are NO friend to the average working JOE (plumber or otherwise). Do you for a New York second think the party who represents the RICH is really going to come to the aid of the middle and lower class? Give that a rest. Democrats are a hair better and that is NOTHING to brag about.

And while you 're at, how about documenting the bill in which you Obama voted to pass - so that we can read the details for ourselves. We can do our own research but if YOU are goign to make claims like this you at least have to tell us thebill in question, and WHERE you got your information.

Plain and simple............
If you're black or minority in this country, you can run your mouth all you want and make racial jokes and say nasty things and we are all supposed to look the other way but if you make a joke or say anything that is remotely considered racial (which is anything when speaking of someone black), then AL Sharpton and every other nutjob comes out of the wood work to run their huge mouths. No one is going to probably do anything about Letterman, because he is a loud mouth liberal piece of crap and Palin seems to be an obsession with him. Why doesn't he make nasty jokes about the Obama girls and see where that gets him. For that matter, why is everyone in such an uproar over the gorilla remark if blacks and liberal whites are allowed to get by with their nasty racial and biased remarks?

Always a double standard! They want their cake and eat it too!
LOL! Either desperate or just plain sloppy.

Are THEY just plain stupid or do they think WE are?

I think a lot of the naysayers or just plain green...
She's got so much going for her, and you all are so jealous of her, that you just can't stop yourselves from been mean with green envy.

She's got it all.....she knew how to make it happen for herself, and just went and did it.

Not even can say that, now can they?
Not 'scared'. Just plain p!ssed-off, after
watching Dubya and his little friends do more harm to this country and its citizens in 8 years than it will be able to recover from in 20.

And you're just plain rude to her again and again...sm
Didn't the moderator tell you guys to stop it, for like, the umpteenth time this past week?

Leave sam alone, geez.

Because it's a lie, pure, plain and simple...
We do have free speech but it is wrong to make things up about people. Didn't your mom teach you that? The stuff about Palin and Bush are facts. What you put about Obama being compared to Hitler is trouble making slander and liable and hateful. I won't even respond to you anymore on this board because it gives attention to a person who doesn't deserve it. All I can say is OBAMA WON AND THAT MEANS THE MAJORITY WANTED HIM SO TOUGH NOOGIES.
You're being just plain ridiculous.

Say what you like, this country is plain giddy
and I am right along with others in Obama being sworn in tomorrow. Even other countries are anticipating the new person being there. Bush has been a disaster for dealing with other nations and I personally am so happy and yes, giddy, that Obama already has such a high rating and as being seen by people who they now feel can perhaps get this country back in shape. People who are still fighting amongst themselves really need to stop and take heed. He is here, the majority are very happy and bashing him is doing no good. I am taking off tomorrow and seeing my new President sworn in!
This is just plain crap - see message
Anytime anyone says anything that doesn't elate the messiah you scream racism.

Statement - "I don't like his policies". Your reply - "your a racist".

Statement - "The people he picked for his cabinet are not qualified" - Your reply - "your a racist".

Statement - "He lied to us in his campaign. Offered us hope but there is no hope." - Your reply - "your a racist".

Statement - "We're tired of him spending money that hasn't even been printed yet". Your reply - "your a racist".

Statement - "It's about time we have someone of a different race in the WH". Your reply - "Right on. I agree with you."

This racist bull is getting old and so untrue, but whenever you can't argue with something you scream racism. GET OVER IT! We have. Enough with this "racism" thing. If you can't bring a conversation then just don't say anything, but please spare me with the racism crap.
Dem, you're just a plain dingbat. What I meant and what

you should have been able to process is that I would rather war not occur on US soil.  Saddam brutally murdered mass numbers of people. I believe he had WMD, but it doesn't matter what I think or what other people think because the proof that he did have WMD was clear with the murder of all those people.  Take a look at some of the few survivors and see that scars that remain.  Oh, and let's not forget about one of his favorite pasttimes, beheading. That sick SOB had connections in several countries and was a serious threat to every single country on the planet.  A person has to be absolutely stupid to think that all going to Iraq was and is about is oil. The people of Iraq are liberated, they're free, they're voting, all things they never dreamed of having under Saddam's rule.  Are there still problems with insurgants? Absolutely. Change doesn't happen overnight, it takes time and that's why our men and women are still there.  Their job isn't done.  If you ask service people what they think, they'll tell you the same thing.  My cousin, by marriage, is a major in the Army, been in the service for 18 years, and knows that it's not time for President Bush to pull the troops out yet.  So, now that I've posted my 2 cents, I'm going to add that I'm not Republican, I'm not Democrat, I don't vote by party, I vote by who I think will get the job done. I mentioned that because I don't want readers thinking that I MUST be a Republican just because of what I posted.

just plain rude - keep 'em coming

Obama is just trouble....plain and simple.

There are so many things that I don't agree with him on.  You can't raise taxes for small businesses in this time of crisis.  You can't have all of these government assisted programs and only tax the rich because that won't be enough to cover all the expenses.  He will have to tax us all including the middle  class which he professes to want to help even though "spreading the wealth" will keep us down in the middle class because we won't be able to afford to make it into the upper tax bracket.  Basically his plans are aimed to help the lowlife scum who don't want to work.  As for his healthcare......like Oldtimer said below.....you can't make insurance companies pay for pre-existing conditions like that.  If no one wants to pay for health insurance until they have a major illness.....these insurance companies are supposed to pay for a pre-existing condition when this person is just now paying insurance premiums.  The insurance companies won't have any money to pay out if that is how it will work because no one will want to pay for insurance until something major happens.  It just won't work that way because it can't.

Obama is a socialists through and through.  I'm tired of the media and his supporters ignoring his associations.  I'm tired of people throwing up the race card.  It is just absolutely ridiculous.  Just because I'm a white woman not voting for Obama....that doesn't make me racist.  Yet you never hear about the people voting for Obama just because he is black.....is that not also racist?

This whole election is just screwed up.  I hope to God that this next debate has something in it worth watching and I hope McCain tears Obama a new butthole!

Being called gay is an insult, plain and simple.
It's even used in popular slang as an insult, i.e. 'that's gay'. They are NOT accepted in mainstream society or they wouldn't have to be making such a stink right now trying to become accepted. It is deviant behavior, and deviant behavior should not be legal. Whatever you do behind your own closed doors is your business, but that's where it should stay.

The essence of their outrage is hijacked by just plain hatred.
hatred of Bush, anything to do with Bush. The mere mention of his name causes the bile to rise and the red mist to engulf them.  They hate, hate, hate.  They blame, blame, blame. It's what they do.  There is no having conversations with them.  They don't see reason. They don't see fairness.  They see nothing but hate.
That is just plain wrong, checked your hateful source
and I find it incendiary
Well, I gotta tell ya - nothing is more creepy to me than Ann Coulter - now that's plain SCARY!

It was a witch hunt plain and simple. But the bad thing about it???
He just commuted their sentences. They will not get their jobs back again because they were not pardoned. I did not know there was a difference, but evidentally there is. So....they might be walking free, but who's going to pay all the bills? And make up for all the missing family times? Not Bush 2 that's for sure. Nor the "Anointed One." He has his own set of problems.

Now you're just plain rude. To try to belittle someone while spewing hatred.
First, you don't know me. Your insinuating that I have a crutch to fall on (religion). Sorry to debunk your theory but I'm not religious. I don't believe in your god.

Second, I don't listen to any of the leaders. If you've read any of my posts I've always stated I don't trust any of the politicians. I also read a wide variety of articles and I have an open mind and listen to every possibility. When you just pick one side and won't listen to everything you cut yourself off from the truth.

Third, for you to say "the most hideous and evil deeds in history have been done by people like me?" That is just downright rude (and I would say your remarks are hideous and evil, and that's putting it nicely).

You sure are one piece of work. And all because of what? I posted a link with some facts about your candidate you didn't like? This is why I belong to no political party (and no religious party). You'd probably eat it up and praise me if I put something negative about McCain (which I have also done).

I agree with another poster that said intolerance is the worse religion.

I also agree with the moderator who has said no more attacks on people. You need to read that post. After this post you will no longer be in my thoughts.

Hope your proud of your hateful and cruel comments. We all have our opinions. Guess I'm just shocked because this I think has to be one of the worst posts I've read so far. Never knew anyone to be so cruel and evil for them to say such things.
It was a campaign trip abroad, dear sm....plain and simple.
perhaps he accomplished what you say he did, in your eyes. But it was definitely a political trip. A global political trip, no doubt about it.

McCain is ancient history. I'm kinda glad he didn't get elected, as he's shown his true colors of late.

And your third paragraph? Nice try, dear.
au contraire.....what they do on the conservative board is bash the left....plain and simple. I thi
..
She took it personally because she was attacked personally. Plain and simple.

Where did you get your debating skills?  On the south side of Chicago in some street gang?  Because if you did, it shows.

In a REAL debate, there is no room or tolerance for personal attacks.  Yet, that's all you people know how to do.  You can't stay on the issue.  You MUST attack the poster personally, claiming to know not only what they think and feel but also claiming to know what every liberal ever thought or did, what they're thinking and doing right now and what they will be thinking and doing for the next 1,000 years.  In fact, you seem to know everything about anything that ever existed on the planet, exists now or will exist into infinity.

As I (and others) have said repeatedly and you just can't seem to grasp, if you constantly treat people badly, they're not going to want to associate with you.  Lurker was very gracious in her posts to all of you on your board, but even she, in the end, couldn't tolerate your continued, nonstop, personal attacks any more (as she indicated in her responses to the attackers).  If you ever stop knowing it all and become interested in the proper way of debating someone, you could learn a lot from Lurker.  You see, having *thick skin* is only important if you're a thug in a gang somewhere.  It's irrelevant when it comes to treating humans like humans, and in that area, you have a lot to learn.

As for me, I like to learn from intelligent, friendly people with different political views, so I visit boards where those kinds of people are found.  Not all conservatives are angry, rude, come out swinging and need to personally attack 1,000% of the time.  Some of them are actually quite nice and informative, and they can be found on other forums.  Too bad they can't be found on MTStars.

Have a pleasant evening.

Good post....truth doesn't always sound good
@
O&B have more sense than that,
nm
But in the same sense
you are saying we should remove the law to not murder someone because every can make choices right or wrong?

I don't believe we should give free reign to abortion. The law he wants to sign can even make it where doctors cannot say no to doing an abortion because of the conscience clause. Therefore physicians who are against abortion because of their beliefs will be forced to perform abortions or lose their job. The FOCA is to broadly written.

I'm not fooling myself. They may not be moral, but they aren't voting for legislation that my faith says is against what God wants. Yes, God gave us free will, but he also gave us laws. I believe murder is murder. The Bible tells me that we are given life from the moment of conception, and therefore an abortion takes away that life, meaning it is murder.

I hope you didn't think I was questioning your beliefs btw, I wasn't. I was just stating how I look at the situation. My father-in-law is a Baptist preacher also. I used to be scared of the Baptist doctrine, but now I really appreciate it, because they preach straight from the Bible. My father-in-law won't even paraphrase! LOL
I see no sense in this.

Obama wants to take away our guns. If there are no guns, we won't shoot each other right?  WRONG.  Just because you take guns away from good people doesn't mean the bad people won't still get them.  The honest folks who would abide by the rules would be at the mercy of the crooks who would obtain weapons illegally.

Ignorant people who do stupid things with guns gives the rest of us gun totting hillbillies a bad name and it isn't fair.  No reason to take our guns away.  We just want to protect ourselves and our family.  If someone breaks into my house with the intent of harming myself or my family....I feel I should have a right to protect them.  Why are criminals being protected instead?  They are the ones doing wrong.  Sometimes this country has things so backwards it isn't funny.

You are not by yourself in your sense of
renewal and having cause to rejoice. I had that sense immediately after the results came in and expecially the next morning. I live in a major US city where the change has actually been visible and palpable. The people here have been holding their heads up and making eye contact, greeting each another on the street, talking to one another and smiling a lot more. It's been great to see and to be a part of it.

Do not let the naysayers take that from you. Welcome to the politics board where you can take advantage of another great opportunity...to exercise, strengthen and hold your faith tight, and to develop a thick hide such that the gloom and doom expressed here will go in one ear and out the other and roll off you like water off a duck's back.
That's probably because this is what makes sense to you.
Perhaps you could be a translator for us?

REPORTER: Is the tide turning in Iraq?
DUBYA: I think -- tide turning -- see, as I remember -- I was raised in the desert, but tides kind of -- it's easy to see a tide turn -- did I say those words?
-- White House, Jun. 14, 2006

If one were to measure progress on the number of suiciders, if that's your definition of success, I think it gives -- I think it will -- I think it obscures the steady, incremental march toward democracy we're seeing. In other words, it's very difficult -- you can have the most powerful army of the world -- ask the Israelis what it's like to try to stop suiciders. ...That's the -- but that's one of the main -- that's the main weapon of the enemy, the capacity to destroy innocent life with a suicider. ...Trying to stop suiciders -- which we're doing a pretty good job of on occasion -- is difficult to do. And what the Iraqis are going to have to eventually do is convince those who are conducting suiciders who are not inspired by al Qaeda, for example, to realize there's a peaceful tomorrow.
-- White House, May 23, 2006

I've reminded the Prime Minister -- the American people, Mr. Prime Minister, over the past months that it was not always a given that the United States and America would have a close relationship.
-- With Prime Minister Koizumi of Japan, White House, Jun. 29, 2006
Ok, that makes sense then
I was thinking when I read the headline that that sounds like something sports players would do to each other (like patting each other on the "behind"). The headline made it sound like he did it in a room full of reporters in the senate. HA HA HA
I want a President who has sense enough...
while "multitasking" to put the most important issue on the front burner. The failing economy to me is the front burner...not the run for the Presidency. Obama proved to me again why I am not voting for him.
Well that does not make sense because
Her daughter is an adult and able to make her own decisions on what she wants for her life. Unless your going to lock her inside the house and accompany her every single place she goes to outside the home its impossible.

Here's some examples. I joined the military without asking my parents. Would you hold my parents responsible for that. My cousin grew up in strict Christian home (church 3 times a week, sang in chorus, taught in their sunday school. And she was 17 years old. She also got pregnant (and this was in a town of less than 10,000 people so her parents knew where she was at all the time. My aunt and uncle should not be held accountable for what their daughter does. A lot of kids are getting pregnant at earlier and earlier ages. There is a point where they have minds of their own and decide what it is they want to do with their lives and a lot of them want to have families. Gov. Palin's daughter evidently did too. She's an adult and do not need to tell or get permission from her parents on that.

As for Gov. Pailin dealing with her issues at home? There are no issues to deal with and she is doing just fine.
Sorry...this makes no sense....
I think you mean Taliban, and bin Laden is not their boss. He is AL Qaeda's boss.

That being said...they were only doing what they were told to do? We are talking Congress here. They had the evidence that this could happen, and blocked legislation that would have prevented it. Who do you think "told" them to block it?
we will need our sense of humor
and some solar panels for this next chapter.
makes sense to me
