An increase in the rum excise tax for Puerto Rico?

Do these senators think we CAN'T read? Or just hoping that we WON'T?

No, sorry, no bravos to someone who does not rescue someone
Did you say Bravo when President Bush gave orders for the professionals to go in and save hostages in Iran, or many other orders President Bush gave to have the professionals save hostages. No, you did not. Sorry you go get to say Bravo to the O when you don't say Bravo to President Bush.

Leave the Bravo and thanks to the real hero's. The one's who saved him.

Can't have it both ways.

They are also considering attaching additional midle class assistance to the legislation despite a request from Bust to avoid adding controversial items that could delay action. Translation == dems (i.e., Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, et al.) are going to try (and probably succeed, buried in deep in the bill) to add at least $50 million more to this bill for their social agenda programs, that we the people are going to foot, yet again.

Imagine that. Nice way to pile on Democrats....nice

Billions More Needed for Rescue?

This is over and above the new so-called stimulus package.

In my local newspaper, it states "More proposals waiting in wings" then it goes on to state "The obama adminstration is developing proposals to help rescue the banking system that could cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars beyond the $700 bililion bailout Congress already has approved.

Details are still being worked out but the administration is looking to spend hundreds of billions more to address the foreclosure crisis, help banks get out from under weighty bad assets and expand liquidity programs."

I'm really starting to get sick literally over this. We can't spend billions of dollars when the money isn't coming into the treasury.  We can't printing money without anything to back it up.

If any of you think these packages will not help the economy, please, I'm almost begging you, email or call your reps and get it stopped.

How does one rescue a sinking ship? That was the
problem Obama was, is and will be facing for a long time.

Obama did not make the holes in the ship, somebody else did.

He tries to repair the damage.

Or do you really think that O's conscious intention is to harm America and Americans?

Can you prove that somebody else would have done in these 4 months a better job in repairing America?

Name him and PLEASE NO PROPHECIES !

Why should taxpayers be funding
any network?  Just for the record.....it is O'Reilly.
Taxpayers do not fund PBS
You obviously do not watch PBS. It is solely viewer funded and publicly owned. (Although lately I HAVE seen paid commercials on there)

I'm beginning to see the reason some of the posters here sound so ignorant.
Obama robbing taxpayers? Do you

bwitch and moan when we give OPEC 700B a year for oil?  With this stimulus, an energy policy will be started to relieve us of that huge bill EVERY YEAR!!  Not to mention national security.  Just that one fact alone makes it worth the money, IMHO.  Also, you would pay taxes anyway, no matter what!!  Did you mind paying your taxes so the FAT CATS could get fatter over the last 8 years?  Do you bwitch and moan about that?  Give me a break.

Uh-oh. Obama is directy addressing rescue plan for the economy. .

In the absence of a direct response from the bankrupt McCain campaign, dems better take cover and ride out the next avalanche of hate speech that looms on the horizon.

Taxpayers will pay for Gonzales' private attorney
This is incredible.

Lawyers from the Justice Department's civil division often represent department employees who're sued in connection with their official actions. However, Gonzales' attorney recently revealed in court papers that the Justice Department had approved his request to pay private attorney's fees arising from the federal lawsuit.

Dan Metcalfe, a former high-ranking veteran Justice Department official who filed the suit on behalf of eight law students, called the department's decision to pay for a private attorney rather than rely on its civil division "exceptional."

"It undoubtedly will cost the taxpayers far more," he said.

According to a person with knowledge of the case, the Justice Department has imposed a limit of $200 an hour or $24,000 a month on attorneys' fees. Top Justice Department attorneys generally earn no more than $100 per hour. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case.

Asked why Gonzales made the request, Gonzales spokesman Robert Bork Jr. said that his client "values the work that the department's civil attorneys do in all cases" but thinks that "private counsel can often be useful where (department) officials are sued in an individual capacity, even where the suit has no substantive merit."

Charles Miller, a Justice Department spokesman, said the department wouldn't have any comment on the reasons for the approval and wouldn't answer questions about the cost to taxpayers.

Geithner plan will rob American taxpayers
Geithner plan will rob American taxpayers: Stiglitz
Tue Mar 24, 2009 4:12am EDT

By Susan Fenton and Deborah Kan

HONG KONG (Reuters) - The U.S. government plan to rid banks of toxic assets will rob American taxpayers by exposing them to too much risk and is unlikely to work as long as the economy remains weak, Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz said on Tuesday.

"The Geithner plan is very badly flawed," Stiglitz told Reuters in an interview during a Credit Suisse Asian Investment Conference in Hong Kong.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner's plan to wipe up to US$1 trillion in bad debt off banks' balance sheets, unveiled on Monday, offered "perverse incentives," Stiglitz said.

The U.S. government is basically using the taxpayer to guarantee against downside risk on the value of these assets, while giving the upside, or potential profits, to private investors, he said.

"Quite frankly, this amounts to robbery of the American people. I don't think it's going to work because I think there'll be a lot of anger about putting the losses so much on the shoulder of the American taxpayer."

Even if the plan clears banks of massive toxic debt, worries about the economic outlook mean banks could still be unwilling to make fresh loans, while the prospect of a higher tax burden to pay for various government stimulus plans could further undermine U.S. consumers, he said.

Some Republican lawmakers have also expressed concern over the incentives offered by the government, which could end up providing private investors with more than 90 percent of the funds to buy the troubled assets. But President Barack Obama has said the plan was critical to a U.S. economic recovery,

Stiglitz, a professor at New York's Columbia University and a former World Bank chief economist, also urged G20 leaders at their London summit next month to commit to providing greater resources to developing countries and said China should be given bigger voting rights in the International Monetary Fund.

"The voices of developing countries, and countries like China that will provide a lot of the money, are not heard."

China would be hard pushed to reach its targeted 8 percent economic growth this year, but the important thing was that at least the Chinese economy was still growing, he said.

Stiglitz welcomed China's proposal on Monday for an overhaul of the world monetary system in which Zhou Xiaochuan, governor of the People's Bank of China, said the IMF's Special Drawing Right has the potential to become a super-sovereign reserve currency.

Stiglitz has long called for the U.S. dollar to be replaced as the only reserve currency. Basing a reserve system on a single currency whose strength depends on confidence its own economy is not a good basis for a global system, he says.

"We may be at the beginning of a loss of confidence (in the U.S. dollar reserve system)," he said. "I think there is support for some sort of global reserve system."

Bush and the Playboy Playmate - Why are taxpayers paying for this?

Bush team backs Anna in fight over fortune
By Inside Track
Tuesday, December 27, 2005

An unlikely fellow Texan has teamed up with Playboy playmate Anna Nicole Smith in her U.S. Supreme Court fight to claim her late husband’s fortune: George Bush!

The Bush administration’s top lawyer, U.S. Solicitor General Paul Clement, filed arguments on Smith’s behalf and wants to take part when the case is argued before the justices.

The high court will decide early next year whether to let Clement share time with Smith’s attorney during the one-hour argument on Feb. 28.

Smith, 38, has been desperately trying to collect millions of dollars from the estate of oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, whom she married in 1994 when he was 89 and she was a 26-year-old topless dancer in Houston. Marshall died in 1995 and Smith has been in a legal battle with his only son, E. Pierce Marshall, over his fortune ever since.

In previous rulings, federal bankruptcy judge sided with the Trim Spa spokesgal in her claim on the estate, awarding her $474 million, which was subsequently reduced to about $89 million by a federal district judge, and then tossed out altogether by a federal appeals court.

The current issue is the question of when federal courts may hear claims that involve state probate proceedings. Clement contends the justices should protect jurisdiction in disputes.

The zany reality TV star lost in Texas state courts, which found that Marshall’s son was the sole heir to his father’s estate.

Although both Bush and Marshall graduated from Yale University, were both in the oil business and held government positions in Washington, the Bush administration’s filings in the case are strictly technical.

    Yeeeeeeee-haaaaaaa!

Again... WHERE DID I SAY I HAVE AN INSIDE TRACK?

What you copied and pasted was an opinion which I stated.

Nowhere in any of my posts do I claim to have an *inside track* to anything.  That's YOUR ridiculous claim, not mine!

LOL. You really should keep closer track of
the news and the economy.
I think everyone kind of got off track on
your post. In reference to to the clip you posted, no one thinking clearly could defend what this thing was saying to Olberman. Quite obviously, she was on something and by him agreeing with her, her her was just showing his usual stupidity. The folks on MSNBC and CNN are so captivated by fear and it has become so obvious, they are losing and they know it!

I have laughed so much over the past couple of days. Obviously, if they would have just let it go, they would not have made nearly as big of fools of themselves!! But, the bigger thing they make of the tea parties, the bigger fools they make of themselves!!!
you hit it right on track again - what is the poster's point.
I can't for the life of me understand what the posters point is, and there are so many names flying I don't know if its different posters or the same. Reading them I'm hearing someone who won't vote for her because she was in a beauty pagent. People are saying she doesn't have brains but they don't give any reasons. Why, because she's pretty? I'd rather see someone with her looks up there before someone like Hillary. With Hillary her ugliness goes deep withing because she is also ugly on the inside. Sarah Palin, is a beautiful person both inside and out. It's just beyond my comprehension how someone can come out and say something like that and when you tell them the facts of her experience, high approval ratings, and things she has done to make peoples lives better. They just don't want to hear it and no matter how many facts are there they just don't want to hear it. I'm sure these are the same people who believe the Algore global warming theory too.

It's just astounding. More so because I was like that (cutting her down because I liked Barack and Biden without even knowing anything about her). I'm glad I did my research. She is one smart lady. If we have any hopes for a better future for our nation I'm looking at her.

Oh yes...for all those who keep saying whats-her-name.....It's Sarah Palin. That's Sarah Palin....SARAH PALIN. You know S.A.R.A.H. P.A.L.I.N. Thought I'd repeat it a few times in different ways because you obvious are not capable of remembering. So if you can't remember her name, please come back here for a reference.
Go Gov. Palin - looks like California is on the right track

Your boy Jim Cramer's track record
http://www.cxoadvisory.com/gurus/Cramer/

In short, as of 01/18/2009, Jim Cramer has been correct about his market predictions about 46% of the time, a little below average. You'd have been better off with a no-load index fund than Cramer's picks.

Read about his "stock of the year" NYSE Euronext debacle in 2007.

http://www.stocktagger.com/2007/07/jim-cramer-track-record-on-nyse.html

In short, Euronext lost 20% of its value since his "growth stock of the year" recommendation, despite flogging it repeatedly on his show and even bringing the CEO on his show and grilling him on why his stock was going down the tubes.

If Jim Cramer has an opinion on anything, the smart money choice is to do the opposite. This includes his opinion on the stimulus.

I agree lets get down to business. What can we do to get our party on track?
I agree with the democratic party philosophy, BUT I am getting a little sick of seeing the far left get all of the media attention making ridiculous arguments like taking a 10 Commandment plaque down from a courthouse OR the NYCLU or ACLU running amuck on their tangents and claiming democratic party affiliation. When the American people see this type of thing on TV they think we are a joke, and IMO these groups do not have the democratic party's interest in mind. It's like they'll do anything to be on the front page, and what they are doing is hijacking our party in a nutshell.

Now, to be fair, part of the problem could be that they only get NEGATIVE press, we don't hear about all of the good things the ACLU does (or has done).
And where did she dig up those names? Twig, Trig, Trick, Track,
Terrible thing to do to a kid.

To whom much is given, much is expected...
oh, that doesn't apply to you...forgot.
just as I expected

So I didn't bash the GOP quite enough?  Oh, please.  They (GOP) spent like crazed fools, and they deserved to be punished big-time!    I've read enough of your posts in the past.  You're one of the reasons I quit reading the politics section of this board.  The only thing of interest to me is whatever occurs MQ-wise.  As for the tax and spend reality, I repeat my "tax challenge" to everyone here to keep track as the days, months, and years play out.

The numbers aren't emotional, and will speak for themselves.  If you can list any taxes that the Dems have lowered or eradicated, go ahead and give it your best shot.

You expected something other than that....(sm)
from Fox?  This is a perfect example of the fear generating machine that is Fox News.
Wow, Democrat. I expected more from you. SM
It gets personal because it's made personal.  How you can't see that, I am not quite sure.  As for your statement elsewhere that AG and I had left before, nope. Sorry, didn't happen.  I didn't say I wasn't coming back either.    Anyways, how much more personal can you get than wishing someone to die, and I am not talking about the president.  It happened but the posts are gone.  We all responded to the person who told Nan she was old and going to die and burn in hell.  So I guess that's not personal, huh?  Tell me how many times you have seen one of us do that.  As far as debate, we give as good as we get.  I thought you knew that, but guess I was wrong yet again.  Oh well, live and learn!
Gee, who could have expected that would happen. nm
x
I didn't know you expected me to. nm
//
Exactly the response I would have expected....
if you see no difference in the way conservative posters are treated vs the way Dem posters are treated...I would not expect you to understand. It is not condescending. It is the simple truth. Your party preaches inclusion, it preaches individual freedoms, it preaches freedom of speech...yet those who post here do everything in their power to quell it, including piling on and attacking everyone who disagrees. And the more you refuse to back down, the worse they get. So they talk the talk, but they don't walk the walk. That is a double standard.
82.93% Nader..Not at all what I expected...nm

Your comments are expected, ...the next
poster was correct...useless to talk to any Obama supporter sometimes at all. Why should I type out ad nauseum all of Obama's statements, when you don't remember them at all, and them blame me for "obviously not remembering." cheap shot, yet again.

You should really listen to Rush sometime. You might learn something and expand your mind. But wait, liberals think with their hearts, not their minds.

Cancel that. Just carry on with your own, bigoted opinions.
Yep -Responses from the very ones I expected.
You all are SO predictable.

TTYL...I'm off to do something constructive for our country....
I think what they expected to happen happened....
South Viet Nam fell and there was a blood bath. Anyone who had in any way aided the Americans were imprisoned and/or killed. And huge amounts of loss of life in Cambodia...remember the Killing Fields? When the barrier of the US was removed...free rein. Just like if you remove the barrier of the US between the Sunnis and Shiites. It will get really, really ugly and I think many thousands will die before...if indeed ever...we could go back on humanitarian missions. That is my fear.

As to chaos...actually in South Viet Nam, the chaos came before we went in...the Dem administration, wanting to stop the "spread of communism" wanted to stop the North from trying to take over the SOuth...but did not like the South's leader at the time. Sooo the CIA helped with a coup to get rid of him. They did not expect the chaos that ensued. And so we went in. Sounds sooo much like what happened to get us in Iraq...except we had not been attacked on our own soil, we had not been attacked, period. They just wanted to stop the "spread of communism." And many many MANY lives later, cut and run, did not accomplish the objective and in fact made things worse. Sound familiar? Sigh. It can happen no matter what administration, no matter what party. I personally think JFK was a good president based on history...but Viet Nam was a BAD mistake. Every bit as bad in that time as Iraq has turned out to be in this one. But do I blame JFK personally for Viet Nam. No.
I expected that so where do you all get your info...please share so ...sm
we can all be on the same page here. I love how people criticize but back it up with nothing. And again I repeat...this is just ONE of the places I go to the ONLY place I go to.

So where do you go to get your info? DO TELL...
64% with McCain- pretty much what I expected.

So you just expected to accuse Holder of
with absolutely no back-talk allowed? I think I got it now, though I am still a bit confused as to how this means that I was the one who was not allowing you to express your opinion.
Please define the "change" you expected
Did you expect complete newcomers to Washington to take top cabinet posts at a time when the country is imploding? Is change about the people who lead or the rules they play by? Doesn't NEW POLICY count for anything? In terms of the economy, do you want experiments or experience? Remember the economy under Clinton years as opposed to W? It is a cabinet, not a regime. Please read the OP about where Obama is supposed to look for appointees and then share your ideas with us, if you don't mind.

Wall street bonuses expected

http://www.foxbusiness.com/story/markets/industries/finance/wall-street-bonuses-expects-come-season-despite-bailout/

Paying bonuses this year is likely to result in a lot of backlash from the average American. After all, even with bonuses down dramatically, they are still higher than the average American, who is losing his or her home, makes. Not to mention the government bailout of financial firms, which seems to change daily, is coming from taxpayer dollars. Concerns abound—rightly or wrongly--that some of the $700 billion bailout could go to pay bonuses this year.

Yes, I bet over 3000 people never expected a plane to fly into their workplace either. sm
It must be nice to live in a world of denial.  I know, if we leave the big bad terrorists alone and quit making them mad, they will just go away and we can continue to ignore the world problems. Wow.
