Axolotl employees----have questions about line definition, etc. sm

How does Axolotl define a line?  Do they pay for spaces, headers, footers, & expansions?  Are you docked for blanks or sending things to QA?  If so, how much.

Thanks for the info.

Have a fabulous 4th!

Axolotl questions

I am considering accepting a position with them and want to see who is happy there and who isn't and why.  I have a few questions.  I just want to make sure that I make the right decision because I want to stay put for good somewhere.

Do they make you work your full 8 if you get your minimum line requirements for the day?  I am a high producer and will be doing 1600 lines a day minimum and do not want to work more than 6-7 hours.  Most places are happy as long as you do good production.

Pay decent?

QA respectable?  How strict is QA and do they do reviews to check your QA score?  I have never worked that way.  I don't want that kind of pressure on me.  I just do my work and get a few reports sent back that had blanks for me to review and learned that way and eventually would have maybe 3-5 blanks a day once used to an account.

Thank you.......

Three more Axolotl questions...(sm)

Do they adhere to a strictly Tu-Sa or Su-Th schedule?  If your speciality is ER, do they have accounts that are only ER?  Do they have Radiology accounts?

TIA

Axolotl - Have a question for former employees

This inquiry is directed to any Axolotl MTs who were hired within the last 2 years and either quit or were asked to leave after only a few months of employment who are willing to honestly say why they left Axolotl.

Hope you guys are willing to help me with questions that I am sure the company does not like asked.  I have seen some good comments about Axolotl on the board but like everyone knows there are either cheerleaders or disgruntled ex-employees giving the majority of replies.  I need something in between.   From reading the posts there seem to be lots and lots of MTs who only work for a company (any company) for a few months and then leave for one reason or another.  It seems that quite a few leave in less than six months because what they were told when hired was not what ended up being the actual day to day work and the MTs feel they are not making the money they thought they would.  Not to say the recruiter intentionally lied about ESL dictators, work availability, QA requirements, or non-paid daily activities during the interview process but somewhere along the line miscommunication happened.  I hate taking time to apply, take the test, get hired, fill out a mountain of paperwork, get the computer set up, train, memorize all the different requirements, deal with QA and management, only to end up quitting or being asked to leave after only a few months and then having to start the process all over again.  Not that anyone would ever run out of companies to work at since there are hundreds of transcription companies to pick from, it’s just that I don’t like to job hop.  I would rather stay put in one place for several years before needing to move on again.

I have heard from a couple of different sources that Axolotl has changed A LOT over the last 2 years since they added several new accounts.  MTs who have been with them over 2 years are usually the cheerleaders because they are only working on established “old” accounts and don’t deal with the new accounts.  What I have heard is that many of the MTs who were hired by Axolotl within the last 2 years have either quit or were asked to leave in less than a year because the “new” accounts are unbearable.  Many don’t even make it through the first month because QA is very stringent and the MTs feel they cannot achieve both minimum lines and maintain the stringent QA standards.

Since I am getting lazy and don’t want to job shop over and over again I would appreciate if any former Axolotl MTs would be willing to answer the following questions:

1.  How long did you work for Axolotl?

2.  Why did you leave?   Did you quit on your own or were you told that you were not meeting standards and they were letting you go?

3.  Now that you know what Axolotl expects are there any questions you wish you had asked before being hired?

Feel free to e-mail me if you want to keep your reply private.

Thank you.  I appreciate your honesty and willingness to help out.

Questions about Axolotl and TransTech

I am looking for a little info.  I'm considering applying to the above companies.  I have 2 questions, and I am hoping you guys can help me.

I need to provide health insurance for my entire family, which with some companies can be very costly.  Does anyone know approximately the cost of a family plan?  I could, of course, ask this question to a recruiter, but my experience in the past has been it is hard to get someone to answer questions until you have tested.  I don't want to waste a whole Sunday afternoon to be told family health insurance will cost me $900 a month.

Question #2 regards quality standards at these 2 companies.  Specifically, I am wanting to know if anyone who has worked under the stringent quality standards of Amphion (they aren't happy unless you are absolutely perfect, and I'm not Jesus) has also worked at either of these companies and can give me a comparison of their experience.

My experience the past 15 months at Amphion has been very stressful, and I want to make sure I don't jump from the fire to the frying pan.

Thanks for your help!

Axolotl insurance questions
Can somebody tell me if you go to work for Axolotl, how soon the insurance kicks in?  Is it good insurance?  Also curious if anybody willing to tell ballpark pay scale for Rad.
Anyone is free to post, not just Axolotl employees
so you don't know who is posting.
A few questions on Axolotl if someone wouldn't mind...sm
Do they provide you with a computer?

What are their benefits (insurance/PTO) tied to? i.e., 40 hours a week, 12,000 lines a pay period, or both, etc. If things are slow and there is no work do you have to make it up in order to keep your insurance? If it remains slow and you can't get your lines in, do you lose your insurance?

Do they hire only acute care or multispecialty clinic, or do they have *specialty* accounts, i.e., ortho, op notes, cardio, psych, etc.

Do you get one primary and a backup(s), or several primaries in a grouping?

Thanks a lot for any info... I'd love to work for a good company again some day and Axolotl looks like a good place to start looking!
Axolotl posts, questions and answers.

First of all, Axolotl is hiring for a significant amount of work that will begin shortly.

When 90% of your workers want to work 1st shift, there seems to be issues with low work.  When workers are willing to work 2nd and 3rd shift, they seem to not run out of work as much, if at all.

The recruiter IS NOT THE SUPERVISOR.  Axolotl has a separate recruiter who does applicant screening, initial interviews and testing.  If everything goes good with this recruiter, then there will an interview with management, i.e. supervisor and/or manager.

ALSO, DOWNTIME IS NOT DETERMINED BY HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEEN THERE.

I am not a manager or supervisor or QA.  I am an MT.  I wish people would get all of their facts straight before coming onto a public board and spreading things that are just not true.

I absolutely LOVE this company.  They treat people with respect, provide great benefits and GREAT PAY.  One should feel lucky to have the opportunity to work for them.

Questions for Proscript employees
Looking to change companies.  Are you satisfied with the company?   Do they have a steady flow of work?  Do they offer health benefits, and if so, is the premium exhorbitant for just an employee?  What is their line/hour requirement for full-time and/or part-time?  Are the accounts loaded with ESLs?  Sorry to have so many questions.  Thanks so much for your help.
Precyse employees; questions

Do they offer full-time and part-time? If so, what are line requirements.  Do you have to do your lines within an 8-hour time frame? Is their platform Word based? Audio transferred via internet or phone? Lines calculated 65 characters with spaces? Do they start as high as 10 cents a line? Do you run out of work often? Sorry to have so many questions, but wanted to avoid wasting my time and theirs based on above. Thank you.

Questions for Keystrokes employees--

Keystrokes contacted me early last week about employment and sent me all the pertinent papers to sign and return.  I faxed everything back and was told they would be getting an ID for me for the account I'll be working on.  I haven't heard anything else.  Should I be concerned, or does it just take awhile for things to get moving? I realize there's been a holiday too which slows things down.

Webmedx employees: Two questions (sm)

Do you run out of work a lot?  How is Radiology workload and pay?

TIA

Keystrokes employees, could I ask some questions? sm

I got an offer from Keystrokes and had some questions for others employed there.

How is the family health insurance?  Expensive?

I will be working on the account that is 80% ESL, easy to meet line requirements?

When the recruiter talks about your 'liscense' please what does that mean?  I'm not entirely clear on that one.

I should be getting my paperwork in a couple days then getting started.  I'm looking forward to working with you all.

Axolotl employees....Is the computer keyboard they supply ergonomic or standard?
I am scheduled to start in about a month and am trying to prepare.  Thanks!
OSI--Would either of you OSI employees mind if I emailed you privately with a couple of questions?
nm
Axolotl line rates
Could you share a ballpark cpl for someone with 20+ years experience? TIA
Any Axolotl employees willing to share info., platform, ESL %, etc. All info greatly appreciated. sm

Along with the platform, ESL %, pay range, lpd required, split shift or 12-24 hour window available, I would be interested in knowing your personal experience with this company, what type of relationship you have with supervisors and other coworkers, etc.  Otherwise, the all the 411.

Thanks!

employees with no minimum line counts
I am not asking for benefits or full time. I was just trying to find out if there is any company that hires employees without a minimum line count per week, so that I would not have to worry about dealing with taxes. Once again, I do not need benefits.
employees with no minimum line counts
I also forgot to mention that I would not mind working a certain amount of hours per week. I just do not like the stress of a minimum line count per week. : )
Best on-line school for MT - Please I Have A Lot of Questions About This Field!!!!!

I am leaving my current job as a secretary at the end of August.  I have been in this field for 30+ years.  I have pretty much decided that I would like to become a medical transcriptionist.  My typing skills are excellent (approx. 100 wpm with 0 errors).  I would like to work from home.  Can anyone tell me which MT on-line schools are reputable?  How long does the course take of you are diligent?  I assume that after training it would be best to work for a transcription service before branching out on your own.  Please, any advice, information on on-line schools, wages, etc. would be greatly appreciated!  Working from home is a life-long dream for me!

It seems they are dodging questions about the supposed new line counter they've been
nm
Look up the definition...

Definition of IC
I just experienced something horrible that happened to me this week.  I've been an IC with a small transcription company (prefer not to mention name) for almost 1 year now.  The manager has her moods.  When I started to work this week, I noticed nothing was in my job que to type.  I kept e-mailing her and e-mailing her and she never responded back.  I then tried calling her and she never responded back.  I started to get very frustrated.  I found out from another IC that she had given my work to another IC without even confronting me.  I know that an IC is different than a permanent employee, but how on earth could anybody treat somebody like that for no reason at all.  Talk about being angry and frustrated!  Luckily, I was able to find work pretty fast, but it really stinks when you are an IC that a company could just let you go for no reason at all and especially totally ignoring your e-mails and phone calls.  Has anybody experienced what I just went through?
Definition of IC
The HR manager wants me to call her on Monday in regards to explain to me what the exact term of 1099/IC means. I did e-mail the staff that I was upset that I did not have any work in the cue for 9 straight days. They told me that's the definition of being an independent contractor. You would think they would have at least told me that TOA account went away. They did not even put me on another account. I would be sitting here for months without anything to do unless I did not catch looking on Global Documents and realizing that all of the TOA doctors were gone on the list. How would you handle that if you were an MT? I know you were QA2, but imagine being in my situation.
I've got your definition
IC means they don't promise you a thing with regard to volume of work, but expect you to work as if you were an employee...

IC used to mean Independent Contractor - you contract with a service or doctor/hospital to provide certain services. They define the job needed to be done, but *you* set your price.

To be fair, a qualified MT still has the ability to negotiate rate, etc., and many MTSO's are flexible and fair. Too many however, (MQ) are so totally corporatized they are quickly moving to force the former independent into a employee status - and in the process removing *much* if not all of the production pay incentives that used to make this work (more)bearable.

Watch the new trend: Pay newbies nothing and QAers very little and end up with a finished product that nets a bigger profit. Hey, if we stand for it, we deserve to be exploited.
true definition
what is the true definition of a wannabe?
Definition of 10-key skills
Accounting courses teach 10-key skills by touch the same way typing courses teach keyboarding by touch. When you are entering numbers, it is much, much, much easier and faster to use the keypad to the right instead of the numbers on the top row of the keyboard. This is by touch, not by hunting and pecking the numbers to the right of the keyboard.
What's your definition of life?

It depends on what your definition of a life is.  I don't have kids, so having a weekend free is not important to me.  I don't believe in organized religion (but have great faith in God) so going to church isn't an issue.  I love having days off during the week so I can do appointments, etc., easier without intruding on my workday.  I am a night owl, so the shift I work for my MTSO which is 5 pm to 1:30 am is perfect for me.  I love my schedule.

Saturdays and Sundays are the busiest days for work, especially if you're in acute care, so it makes sense to me that's when they want the most coverage.

I have lots of work in a failing economy, so I never complain about it.

Employee VS IC definition
You need to read up on IC  VS employee status deinitions according to IRS and labor department.  Google the term and read up a bit.  Here is a page, click the various titles and they open up
Actually it's the exact definition of it.

Depends on your definition of holiday pay - sm
Several companies pay 1.5 times base if you work the holidays they recognize. If the holiday falls on your regularly scheduled day, you either have to work it or use PTO hours (or sometimes you are able flex that time and work it later) to be off on the holiday.
Do you know the definition of RUMOR? Sheesh!
You must be a riot at the laundromat! Yackety Yack!
Definition of syntax inside....

syntax

One entry found for syntax.

Main Entry: syn·tax
Pronunciation: 'sin-taks
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle French or Late Latin; Middle French sintaxe, from Late Latin syntaxis, from Greek, from syntassein to arrange together, from syn- + tassein to arrange
1 a : the way in which linguistic elements (as words) are put together to form constituents (as phrases or clauses) b : the part of grammar dealing with this
2 : a connected or orderly system : harmonious arrangement of parts or elements <the syntax of classical architecture>

definition of a cherry picker
Cherry picking is when you get routed the easiest docs to transcribe from a particular account or when the gals in the office get routed the easier docs and leave the crap for the rest of us to do. I do every single doctor that comes to me on my account and do not pass it on to my coworkers. If I were doing that you better believe I would be hearing it from my coworkers as some of us talk between one another!!! You do not know what you are talking about and I am getting the impression that you are either a newbie or extremely immature. Somehow you seem to think that I owe you good accounts. Go out and find them, they are out there!!! Sounds like you are too afraid to expect more and lack the assertiveness necessary.... All careers have people who make the low end, middle end, and high end pay wise and job wise. I choose, here I use the word again choose to be one of the ones on the top end of the pay scale. It works the same way with for instance my husband's job. He chose to move his way up the ladder while other guys stayed down. What, is he supposed to stay down because they choose to not get ahead??? This is all so infantile... I gotta get back to work or maybe my coworkers will start to feel I am not pulling my weight!! Gee wiz....
Depends on your definition of change
No where on Nuance site could I find where it said they were moving everything to the US.  Heard from Indian company the other day who was trying to recruit that Focus is hiring like crazy and are even signing up companies over there to subcontract their work to. Kinda interesting since they profess that they own all their own labor.
How is that going to help me? I wasn't asking for a definition of IC vs Employee
Just want to find a new job.
Definition of an Independent Contractor
Defining the Independent Contractor

No consistent, uniform definition distinguishes an employee from an independent contractor. Some statutes contain their own definitions. The U.S. Supreme Court has held that when a statute contains the term employee but fails to define it adequately, there is a presumption that traditional agency-law criteria for identifying master-servant relationships apply (National Mutual Insurance Co. v. Darden, 503 U.S. 318, 112 S. Ct. 1344, 111 L. Ed. 2d 581 [1992]).

One comprehensive test that takes into account agency-law criteria and numerous other factors courts have created to define independent contractor status was developed by the Internal Revenue Service. Known collectively as the twenty-factor test, the enumerated criteria generally fall within three categories: control (whether the employer or the worker has control over the work performed), organization (whether the worker is integrated into the business), and economic realities (whether the worker directly benefits from his or her labor). The twenty factors serve only as a guideline. Each factor's degree of importance varies depending on the occupation and the facts involved in a particular case. Twenty-factor test [nl] 1.

A worker who is required to comply with instructions about when, where, and how he or she must work is usually an employee.

2.

If an employer trains a worker — requires an experienced employee to work with the worker, educates the worker through correspondence, requires the worker to attend meetings, or uses other methods — this normally indicates that the worker is an employee.

3.

If a worker's services are integrated into business operations, this tends to show that the worker is subject to direction and control and is thus an employee. This is the case particularly when a business's success or continuation depends to a large extent on the performance of certain services.

4.

If a worker's services must be rendered personally, there is a presumption that the employer is interested in the methods by which the services are accomplished as well as in the result, making the worker an employee.

5.

If an employer hires, supervises, and pays assistants for a worker, this indicates control over the worker on the job, making the worker an employee.

6.

A continuing relationship between a worker and an employer, even at irregular intervals, tends to show an employer-employee relationship.

7.

An employer who sets specific hours of work for a worker exhibits control over the worker, indicating that the worker is an employee.

8.

If a worker is working substantially full-time for an employer, the worker is presumably not free to do work for other employers and is therefore an employee.

9.

Work performed on an employer's premises suggests the employer's control over a worker, making the worker an employee. This is especially true when work could be done elsewhere. However, the mere fact that work is done off the employer's premises does not necessarily make the worker an independent contractor.

10.

If a worker is required to perform services in an order or sequence set by an employer, the employer has control over the worker that demonstrates an employer-employee relationship.

11.

A worker who is required to submit regular oral or written reports to an employer is likely an employee.

12.

Payment by the hour, week, or month tends to indicate that a worker is an employee; payment made by the job or on a straight commission points to an independent contractor.

13.

A worker is ordinarily an employee if an employer pays for the worker's business or travel expenses.

14.

An employer who furnishes a worker with significant tools, materials, or other equipment tends to show that the worker is an employee.

15.

A worker who significantly invests in facilities used to perform services and not typically maintained by employees (such as office space) is generally an independent contractor.

16.

A worker who can realize a profit or loss resulting from her or his services is generally an independent contractor.

17.

A worker who performs for more than one firm at a time is generally an independent contractor.

18.

If a worker makes his or her services available to the general public on a regular and consistent basis, that worker is generally an independent contractor.

19.

An employer's right to discharge a worker tends to show that the worker is an employee. An employee must obey an employer's instructions in order to stay employed; an independent contractor can be fired only if the work result fails to meet the agreed-upon specifications.

20.

If a worker has the right to terminate her or his relationship with an employer at any time without incurring liability, such as breach of contract, that worker is likely an employee.

See: Employment Law; Labor Law; Master and Servant.
Just a quick definition for you anon for now...

SATIRE

1.the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly, etc.
2. a literary composition, in verse or prose, in which human folly and vice are held up to scorn, derision, or ridicule.
3. a literary genre comprising such compositions.

obviously my post wasn't trying to trick anyone into believing I was a TT CEO, I didn't even give his name, and if anybody is slow enough to think that I am the CEO for a minute, please email me, I have a bridge to sale you.

This whole thread is about the pay decreases and why they are happending...satire, my friend, satire. I need to buy you one of those word-a-day calendars.

What is the definition of "Very nice?" $25, $50, $100, $1000?

Everyone has a different definition of good money. Mine is 50K or more.

definition of decent: Acceptable standards
making $50,000 a year as an MT is beyond decent, it is really great, but realistically a decent living would be less, which is what the poster asked, as the definition of decent is to have acceptable standards.
Actually I posted looking for answers to my questions above, not looking to answer questions, but

to here goes...firstly, I don't know about the platform, only that it is Word based. Secondly, I have many years cardio, and thirdly, no the test was not hard. Still looking for any answers to my questions above. Thanks in advance.

Oh for sure employees, but not too often for statutory employees. Sorry for confusion.

Attn: Any Transcend employees or former employees
I have been offered a job with Transcend, but I am not completely sure about it yet and I need some input from you guys.  I have read positives and negatives regarding this company but alot of it was pretty old information.  Can anyone give me some recent feedback on them?    Thanks very much!!!
A line is a line is a line. Doesn't matter if we are talking about radiology or acute care.

1600 is not a fair minimum requirement.  Sure you can achieve 1600, it shouldn't be the required minimum.

They have IC and employees, employees get benefits.
Good company. I am very happy there.
Does anyone like it at Precyse? New employees? old employees? nm
nm
Means a line is a line is a line, even if it only has one word on the line
it is considered a line.
"a line is a line" means gross line.
Gross line is a line, no matter how long or short.
Yes to old reports! Their ExText has all the regular functions except line counts are done on line

Thanks for the info! Do you *feel* like you make more with a gross line v. character line? (nm)
