Everybody is making it out like she's the first rock star to have a drug problem and win an award

In Reply to: She probably wouldn't have made it though airport security with the crack pipe anyway.... LOL - nm

Beatles, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, Eagles, INXS, Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton, The Doors, and on and on and on. If we only listened to, or gave awards to, the clean and sober musicians, our musical legends would be a completely different list.

OP ABOUT ES AWARD sm

Thanks for your input.  I definitely will get him a gift.  I will go to the area Scouting stores and see what I can find.  I know it is a great accomplishment. He has three older brothers and he is the only one that did scouting.  He was never that good in sports so martial arts and scouting was his passion. My daughters were in Girl Scouts until about 7th grade.  I think an Eagle Scout Award holds more clout than a Girl Scout Award.  My daughters have dated some guys who had gotten Eagle Scout awards and they were so nice and very polite and I came right out and told them how impressive I was that they were 18 and still in scouting even though they took their teasing from others.

My 'Dingbat Award' goes to - (sm)
the family I saw one time in the Sierras while I was driving back from skiing. There are two runaway truck ramps on Westbound I-80, and I saw a family stopped right at the entrance to the ramp, having a picnic lunch on the tailgate of their SUV while the kids played in the pile of gravel. That's a ramp located on a long downgrade, and it gets a LOT of use! I had a CB radio at the time, and boy oh boy... it was crackling with laughing, disbelieving truckers who were saying 'What the h..........?"
I agree that Carrie should not have won this award....but
I don't agree that she has no talent....WHAT?!!? lol
Opinion needed regarding Eagle Scout Award

My nephew is receiving his Eagle Scout Award on Saturday.   Are we suppose to give him a gift of some sort?  I told my mother that I did not think so since he had a lot of donations from our town.  What is your opinion?  In case anyone is curious for his project he beautified the VFW Hall in his town by planting a memorial garden.  I am always impressed with boys who stick with scouts until the age of 18.

P.S. congrats to your husband, sounds like a nice award!

When you wish upon a star

For some time I have been wanting to do animal rescuing but had no idea how to start. I personally rescued a little doggie and after knowing I had no place to keep her, adopted her out to a person who does rescuing and got my dreams answered. The lady is supposed to get her license soon to rescue in the state- right now she works as an extension of a humane society. When she gets her license to rescue will cost nothing to pull out animals that are sometimes put down. I am going to get 3 doggies tomorrow, a mother and 2 puppies. Some of the puppies already adopted out and when the other 2 gone, the mother is put down. This is something I have had in my heart for quite some time and finally able to do something now. I can finance 3, 4 or 5 per month and then in return they will find them good homes.  My wishes are coming true.

Morning star
Wow! Seeing a morning star was worth all of that. I think that is awesome! Yeh, I was tempted to go to Kohls with all those commercials yesterday, but my MT nature kicked in, I was home all day, but rested and got lots of laundry done, even cleaned the garage. Now, I don't feel guilty about neglecting a chore here or there. I'll think of something fun to do tomorrow. I hope it's as good as seeing a morning star. :)
Nashville Star
Anybody watching Nashville Star? Who's your favorite? Mine is Gabe.
Do you watch Nashville Star? (sm)
One of the guys (my personal favorite) on there is from Louisiana and the other night after he sang during his interview, he said that cheer. I thought it was really cute!

Next Food Network Star sm
I am watching right now to see who the winner will be.  They said this is the 3rd Next Food Network star.  I know Guy won last year and does Guy's Big Bite and Diners, Drive ins, and Dives.  Does anyone know who the first Food Network Star was?  I don't even remember that competition.  Thanks.

Octo-mom to be a porn star!!!

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 – updated: 9:06 am EST February 25, 2009

The very public saga of octuplet mom Nadya Suleman has taken a lurid turn.

According to TMZ.com, Suleman has been offered $1 million by major porn distributor Vivid Entertainment to star in a porn movie.

Suleman became the subject of heavy scrutiny after the birth of the octuplets last month, after it was revealed that she already had six children. All 14 were conceived through in-vitro fertilization.

Vivid told TMZ that the company will give her family full medical and dental insurance if she becomes a "contract girl." According to the celebrity gossip Web site, that would mean Suleman would have to do "multiple videos."

TMZ said there was no word on whether Suleman was considering the offer.

Meanwhile, Suleman appears to have bigger worries than taking care of her 14 children.

Talk show host Dr. Phil McGraw said that she may have to prove she can handle the load, or else have hospital officials withhold her newborn octuplets.

McGraw said the 33-year-old unemployed mother called him Tuesday. She was distraught that Kaiser Permanente officials told her they were concerned about the babies living at her home near Los Angeles.

Property records show Suleman's mother is more than $23,000 behind on mortgage payments and the home is under threat of foreclosure.

Kaiser officials won't comment on Suleman's case.

Suleman has taped two episodes of McGraw's "Dr. Phil" show.

energy star light bulbs
Just remember if you drop and break one of the new energy efficent light bulbs they have mercury in them. you can't just suck up the mess with your Dirt Devil(: On the back package there is a list of how to clean up mercury spills or you can call the EPA in your area. Leave it to our govt to create a light bulb where you need a govt run agency to help you clean it up!
Is anybody here watching Design Star on HGTV?

What do you think about the latest round of eliminations? Who do you think will win?

I think it will be Todd because he is so energetic and good-looking and he also is a very creative designer.

Other opinions?

He has been drug tested....
for his job. I don't think that drugs or alcohol are involved.  We have considered it, but I just don't think that it the problem.  I certainly would never let him drive with my son if I was unsure.  I just don't know what it could be.  It would take a book to write down all of his issues.  The sad part is that his father dismisses it all because he does well in school and he is premed, but he just lacks any sort of personal character.  Being smart does not make you a good person and he is just not a good person.  I am still so sick to my stomach about this.  I feel like I am a bad person, having mothered this kid for 13 years and now I am just ready to wash my hands of him.  I am dead serious about that and it makes me ill.  I pray to God that I don't ever have these feelings about my son.

loved the fountain drinks, miss the five and dimes like Woolworth's.
With their drug war going on & innocent
tourists getting caught up in the middle, not to mention how dangerous it can be even without a drug war going on... is it REALLY worth the risk? We have plenty of beautiful beaches right here in the U.S., and why not spend your tourism money to help out our own ailing economy. It is much better to be safe than sorry. JMO...
This drug testing is going too far - sm
I don't do drugs and I do know that there is a huge drug problem in America but turning around and testing for drugs for every single thing is going a bit far. Not everyone who is unemployed does drugs. In fact I can bet the people who are unemployed are probably using the money for basic necessities of daily living (food, shelter, electricity).

My dad (72 years old) is collecting unemployment and if he had to take a drug test to get his check that would be horrible. He's the most honest decent human being I know of.

A lot of people who collect unemployment don't do it because they want to, they do it because they have to. A lot of them are going through depression and then to turn around and have to take a drug test like they are criminals?...well why not treat them like crap more and add to the depression they are already going through.

Think this is just another way for government to take control and it is not a good idea. Usually the people who are for others being tested are church goers who think they are "holier than thou".

Bad idea.

after 20 years of carting my kids, their friends, sports equipment, saddles, and of course helping half the planet move -- my youngest just got his license and I got myself a ragtop (2-seater) Saturn Sky. I may be old and pudgy, but I'm having a BLAST and it's all mine, mine, mine! Enjoy
I had to go get drug tested today for my - sm
bus substitute driver job; they provided the car for us to go the clinic. Apparently they normally take the white car, but today we took the red car because the white one was being held as they found drugs in it last week. Kind of funny as it is a county car used only by the school employees; and mainly to go to drug tests. How un-smart is that? They still don't know who is the guilty party as the car had more than normal traffic in it last week. Guess they will figure it out though, I bet everyone that has been in that car for the last 2 weeks is getting drug tested; if you test positive you are immediately fired.
Try the company that makes the drug.
We got on a plan for my son through the company and he gets his meds free (Concerta) for at least the next year.
The 100K came way after the drug charges
The arrest came say 15 or 20 years before the 100K and the way they spend their money that $100K probably not around too long.
Has anyone ever been on Clomid - or any other fertility drug? sm
DH and I are having fertility issues and the doc has put me on Clomid but I have yet to get a positive ovulation stick (the kind you pee on), and I am getting frustrated.  Has anyone ever been on this?
A drug bust! Well there is no telling
what kind of life that dog had. That is very sad. You know, I had to admit but I use to be one of those people that said oh no a pitbull! They are mean, they will turn on you, but that all changed when I got a little pitbull puppy years ago that changed me. My pitbull taught me the true meaning of Don't believe everything that you hear, and only believe half of what you see.
Help on upgrading drug reference

Hi all,

I am seriously in need of upgrading my drug reference. I am still using Quick Look electronic 2004 and so many new drugs have been introduced in the past 4 years.  What would you recommend??  I just checked the Stedman's site and really cannot afford that kind of money right now.  Do any of you recommend a hard copy book that would keep me updated???  Thank you for any suggestions.

Can we drug-test the Senators too?
I don't think connecting unemployment benefits to drug-testing is a good idea. In fact, I don't think drug testing should be random at all. I think it should be reserved for cases that are on a need-to-know basis. And no, I have never used drugs, never tried them. It's a matter of civil liberties and constitutional rights against invasions of our privacy. Next thing you know, they'll be testing us for lipid levels after we're seen frequenting a house of trans-fats.

And while we're on the topic, decriminalizing drugs would go a long way toward reducing drug-related crimes. Nothing is perfect in this discussion though because drugs really are evil. It just becomes a matter of damage control.
I have taken many drug tests for many jobs...
and never felt like a criminal. It is just the way things are. I would far rather have drug users weeded out of medical positions, welfare and unemployment than to not take the test. I don't know why anyone who does not use drugs would feel humiliated by taking a test. Just my opinion.

sheet rock
I have seen this painted and I have also seen people do sheet rock mud over it to smooth the lines.  We have paneling that I hate.  Bought MIL's house.  Hubby loves it.  Too dark but in great condition  We are just going to put sheet rock on top and go from there.
under rock I suppose...
sorry, just never heard that one before...pardon moi!
Rock of Love
I just got done watching. I'm so glad Lacey is gone. I really like Jes. Most of the other women that were on the show were just too trampy for me. I have the feeling he's going to pick Heather though. I love all the shows you mentioned. How about I Love NY? She's from here in Syracuse. Feel free to email any time to talk about the shows. The same goes for JMR down below.
Now that is very sweet. Rock on, ma!
:)
Better climb under a rock,
or have all the posts been there for years? Nothing new. Liz Taylor stole Eddie Fisher from his wife, then had affair with Richard Burton (who was married)- hmmm guess they were way past their prime (also dead) to make to DWTS- this happened in the 60s and Ingrid Bergman (in the 40s) had twins with a guy she was not married to (married to someone else.) Like I said, better just go to a remote island and be alone for it not to happen.
Schoolhouse Rock
I love those! I want to get them for my 7-year-old son. I learned so much from all of them, especially the preamble to the constitution. Your kids are gonna enjoy them!
Fraggle Rock

I love Fraggle Rock.  We got a couple DVDs for my friend and I got some for myself and made the kids watch it.  :-)

FYI - Rock Band
We were going to trade in 1 guitar for the rock band set and were told the Rock Band still has a lot of kinks to work out and the sales person advised us to wait until after this Christmas as it will probably be the big thing for Christmas and the problems will be worked out.

I would love to get the 80's one too! I didn't know they had that! My husband was a DJ in highschool and I bet he would love that. Ok, that's now on his xmas list. lol Thanks!
I must live under a rock...
as I did not know that either! Not that there's anything wrong with that
