With that holier than thou attitude who would want you as a boss ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
x
Why is it holier than thou to tell you
instead of complaining on this board.  Do some work/make some money.  Hone your skills/make yourself more valuable.  I make a lot of money because of the time and effort I have put into it.  I used to make $6 an hour doing MT.  Now I make $35 or more.  If I had sat around complaining about making $6 an hour, instead of working my a$$ off to become an excellent MT, with hospital experience, and now my own accounts, I still wouldn't be making anything.  Life is what you make it.  Take what you have/start where you are, and work your way up.  Do that instead of complaining and you'll get somewhere.
not holier than thou
my belief system does not allow me to do ITOPs and has me really boxed in trying to find employment.  been offered 2 really good jobs lately and now realizing that working for MTSO versus my old inhouse job might not work.  Any ideas?
What a holier-than-thou answer. nm

I CANNOT believe these Holier Than Thou wonderful moms - sm
This is absolutely ridiculous... There are crappy daycares out there, but you can certainly tell by your child's actions if it is good or bad - if they go kicking and screaming then you know they aren't having FUN.  Lady, You are doing JUST FINE....  if they love daycare and you are getting your work done, then SO WHAT... these other "wonderful moms" are SO one-sided opinionated that I would hate to see the attitude and social skills they are teaching THEIR little ones!!  YOU do the best you can for YOU and your babies...  Is this really troubling to these "wonderful moms" when they begin pre-K or Kindergarten for heaven's sake... LORD KNOWS the teachers at school don't love these children like YOU do... puhleeeze!!  If it is a fun learning experience where they are making friends... they would RATHER be playing with friends than watching your back and listening to the rattling of the keyboard...  Sure there are companies that allow flexibility, but you have to set it to suit everyone in the mix...  To you "wonderful moms" who think that YOUR way of "NO DAYCARE" is the ONLY right way - poopoo to you.... Mommies have to do what Mommies have to do... all children are different...  my daughter I was able to keep at home... my son needed interaction with people and constant stimulation that I could not be flexible with - so he had a sitter for a few hours, then pre-K ....  he has turned out to be the brightest child you would ever meet with a vocabulary that would stun you!!  Each child is different, each family is different, each mommy is different... YOU are NOT a terrible mother for choosing this route, and I am sure your babies will grow up to be well-rounded, SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE young ladies and gentlemen...  Shame, SHAME for judging!!!
I am soooooo sorry. Wish I could be there
for you. I can totally feel your pain. Not trying to minimize your doggie, but I had to put my sweetheart lab down about a year ago. Posted on here and the ladies were so wonderful. I was a mess. Now I just woke up today, and her son, who is 9 years old, is having trouble walking. He seems weak in his hind end. I am SO frantic, and crying again. It is sooooooo painful. But they are so worth it. You and your dog are in my prayers.
ACK!! I thought he was soooooo
good looking!! You must be a doll:)
Soooooo slow computer

I have the XL Dell and recently had more memory put on hoping to increase the speed. I also did the defraging procedure and still seems like doing escription and working in word it is slower than me. I type and the letters are not coming out as fast as they were say 5 months ago. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I had thought about getting another computer (just don’t want to pay huge $$$$ on one) but also have no idea about a good system to buy. My computer is about 4-5 years old. Thanks.

Actually, we are not holier than any person.
God is Holy. Christians are just forgiven!
Big MTSOs aren't always attractive to
They charge a hefty line rate to pay the MTs plus QA plus all their administrative staff. Many private practice docs have been hit hard by malpractice ins. costs and want to cut as many corners as they can these days. I agree you'll have the best luck there as opposed to larger multisp clinics or hospitals.

I disagree about the tapes, though. Depending on how far you have to drive and if you print, etc, you'll be putting in many hours of administrative-type work. Those are hours you're not making money. Not to mention, it's VERY hard to get them to switch to digital dictation later once they get used to this kind of pickup, delivery, & print service. This arrangement may work well for someone like Patti who enjoys the socializing aspect, but this can also be a huge burnout factor for other MTs in the long run, especially if you enjoy the transcription aspect of the work more than administrative tasks and would rather be at home than on the road. Unless your clients are close by, you could be looking at an hour or more on the road each day. Sure, the mileage deductions are great at tax time, but that's once a year and you'll pay for gas all year.

Also, don't assume finding help will be a piece of cake, either. That can actually be one of the most challenging aspects. There are good reliable MTs out there, but you need to be able to offer a rate that will attract them.

I'm not trying to dissuade you, though, not by any means. Simply giving you some additional food for thought. I say go for it. You'll never know until you try it! If you keep the work you have with an MTSO for a while while you try a direct client, you can always stay with the MTSO if you find it's not your cup of tea. That way, there's nothing to lose but possibly a lot to gain. Good luck! :)
you are soooooo off base, it really is funny. i am a single woman who
runs my own household. i try to surround myself with smart people, or at least as smart as myself. i am not threatened by anything but the dumbing down of america and lots of that can be seen in situation comedy for the masses. i raised four boys, all of whom are doing very well in life and i can do things i can't do and know things i do not. i am not threatened by them. i enjoy them. i am a student of life even at my age and want to learn and be amused not at the expense of someone else, male, minority, blonds, etc.
You are right about that - true humility in a person is very attractive. sm
I worked for a doctor who had very low self esteem, but he always took up time with everyone. His self-depricating was funny.

I guess the upper crust is not always flaky...

She just said she would post pix and made it sound so attractive.

And to me, "slacks" sounds as attractive as a housecoat, lol. nm

Hey! For all you who blame MQ for lowering the bar in the industry, driving the cpl rate SOOOOOO low
How do you fathom that one?? The small MTSOs are charging peanuts, while MQ is charging 20 cpl.  And these companies are SMALL - I know.  So, hmmmmmm...maybe big bad MQ isn't to blame for that condition in the industry? Interesting, very interesting...sounds more like the small MTSOs have plummeted our salaries into the dirt, if this is supposed to be an example!
Taylor has already "poo-poo'd" attempts to make him more, er, attractive. sm

He adamantly refused to color his hair. Great, you love your grey hair, we get it. Some women find you attractive. Maybe if you were 45 you would be, but you're 29 and you look 45.

He will be a difficult idol because he doesn't want to be told what to do, either in his singing or in his appearance. He thinks he knows all.  At least Elliott let them attempt to mold him, and look, it worked! Kat is already super pretty and seems willing to take the advice of the marketing dept.and the musical advice. She would be a better A.I. for all involved.

Well, then why don't you take your "holier-than-thou"
attitude back to your desk and get to work, yourself.
U to be right but me thinks thou doth protest

can you stand on your feet all day, be abused by better than thou customers, work for slave wages?

My mistake, I am not thinking tonight, I actually make 11.5 cpl, clinic notes. I earn my money thou

LOL LOL LOL? What do you know about my attitude? LOL
I know you are management and you know what? You can't put out this fire. Attitude? Why I'll just tell my mortgage company that my attitude was bad, I got a bad QA report because I couldn't interpret ESL dictator and could I please not have them foreclose on my house. Attitude indeed. Check own queenly gotta be right I'm better than you lowly MT attitude yourself.
you can keep your attitude to yourself
The information I got was in the email, not on actual paperwork.  If you don't want to answer, then go but somebody else.  I understand the concept of work more, get more, DUH yourself.
Attitude
I am truly sorry if I offended. The question itself sounded kinda "duh" to me. Again, I apologize. I've been 46 hours with no sleep and okay, so my brain is not on it's best functional mode.

I am utterly at a loss for words now as I honestly meant no offense.
wow, what an attitude he has!
Well, I am sure glad that I do not work for THAT company! Seems this outsourcing thing is getting WAY out of hand. He moans about not having enough MTs in this country - I think that they just need to get the pay per line rate up some (pay us what WE are actually worth for once, and quit sending it ALL overseas so that these companies can "SAVE MONEY??"). I would like HIM to live on what WE have to live on!!
i like your attitude
excellent point
Someone with her attitude needs to
go elsewhere. With her around, I was almost dreading coming on the board sometimes. She is always looking to start an argument or putting somebody down. I, for one, am glad to see her go, and only pray she stays gone. What a drag!!!
Attitude is everything.
My impression of your post is that management never gets it right; only you do. I wonder if they could ever do anything right in your eyes.

It's too bad that there are so many people out there with the attitude that the company is "out to get them". There are a lot of good companies and people running them out there--just as there are good MTs.

If I work with someone like you, I'm sure I already avoid you because I don't want to be around such a negative attitude; if you work at home, I'd like to say "thanks for staying home".
With your attitude you should do the same
Since the only thing you can come away with from this discussion is "give up and do something else"!
Certainly, with that attitude...
You will have a difficult time achieving anything positive in life, connections or not.
Are you serious? The only attitude so far has been yours! nm
x
just me and my attitude?

apparently not.

Maybe it's your attitude to begin with.

Change your tune.  Be sugary sweet when you think someone is being rude to you and see what happens.  Pay it forward.  Give someone a smile or a kind word.  Let someone in line in front of you.  Just do one little nice thing per day and it will multiply.  People are never rude to me.  Everywhere I go, they know me by name because I take the time to be kind to them.  Gas station, grocery store, bank, school, doctor's office.  You might have to fake it 'til you make it, but you can change your outlook and how you perceive the world treats you.  If someone is "rude" to you, blow it off.  Maybe they're having a bad day and it's nothing personal.

Their attitude usually starts it!...sm
I've dealt with some really helpful techs, but mostly alot of real winners (not):

One experience I had at MQ (no longer work for them), but I told the tech that the modem they just sent to me was fried. He told me that was impossible; they check everything before shipping. He made me do this and that for about an hour! When none of that worked, he said, "you don't know anything about transcription equipment do you?". I told him I knew enough to know when a modem is fried, and probably said something else! He told the supervisors that I was rude and whatever else he wanted. The next day the supervisor called and alluded that we had a "personal problem"! UGH!

After two supervisors had me do this and that with the modem and computer, they decided the modem was unusable and would ship me a new one (24 hours later with me losing work time while paying them to rent the equipment, not to mention getting stressed and frustrated wasting time with the tech with an attitude).

Your being frustrated and sarcastic is perfectly understandable! But, yeah, they "tell" your supervisor!
There was no "I'm better..." attitude in my post.
Your perception of me is that way because you don't like my point of view, my success, my refusal to be a part of the pity party like everyone else.

I gave the OP a good piece of advice. Save her money and work on healing the heartache of this situation. I stated in my post that it is a heartache and her frustrations are completely right on.

Too bad if you don't like my advice. I'm not cat fighting with anyone. Sounds like you have PMS!

Take some Midol, will you!
nice attitude
xx
And it is exactly this kind of attitude....sm
that will continue to keep MTs classified as clerical help. Until we start taking some accountability for our own professionalism, nobody else will sure recognize it!
18-year-old with attitude
Our son is a sophomore in college now. He works during the summers for clothes, books, etc, but we pay his monthly tuition. He is almost 20 and just now got his license, no car or truck, cannot afford to insure that right now. Last year we paid 700.00 a month for tuition, this year 1300.00 a month for tuition, but he is a good kid, has ADHD and studies hard. Tuition is a lot to pay for every month, but if he can get a good education, works hard, etc I am willing to pay for it. He is home now for winter break, helps me around the house with everything and is a good kid. We never thought he would go to college because he struggled so in his vocational school in high school, but his last year of high school he studied and turned his life around, got help with his ADHD and now seems to be on the right track. I opted not to take out a lot of loans for him because I do not want that burden on us or him in the future. Do what you think is right for your son. Of course their attitude is everything. We don't mind helping our son out because he has a "good attitude" and wants a college education so he does not have to work as hard and as many hours as his mom and dad do, as we both have 2 jobs each.
lol Who are you to say her attitude is out of line?
lol
She probably doesn't have your attitude and THAT

It is all about the attitude, not the accomplishment!

Only if you want..its all about attitude and effort.

I am not a Dr. Phil fan either. Just do not like his attitude.

Horrible Attitude
That's really a horrible thing to say....just because someone feels confident in their skills is not a negative thing...it's a good thing....more people need to be "in love" with themselves and maybe the world would be a better place!
good attitude
Bless you for raising your sons to be men of honor -- soldiers. No matter what one thinks of this war, I so admire the men and women who are putting their lives on the line for us every day. Thank you. (Though I envy the part about "fantastic salary" at the hospital where you work, you deserve it!) You go, girl.
good attitude

Thank you so much for your kind words Dawn. I hate the war, this is not a "good" one....but all the gals and guys that are in it deserve all of our prayers and good wishes. We must stand behind them until they all come home.

As to the good salary...I am most grateful for it. I wish each and every MT could have the same, and let us hope things change so they (and you) will.

Keep smiling and pray for peace!

Oh, that's a great attitude.....
I am very confident in my job and my brain and my knowledge of the use of the English language. I know I am better at composing a grammatically correct and near perfect report than most doctors dictating as fast as possible just to get it done, or especially since the surge of ESLs. Sorry you don't have that confidence, some have it and some don't. That attitude that this job is just typing what they say is what got this industry into the poor quality state it's in today. If an account doesn't state *strictly* verbatim - and most do not -we are expected to type it using proper English and good grammar by editing without changing the context or meaning. How long have you been doing MT? Just curious.
Having an "I'm worth it" attitude
However, with so many companies hiring to simply crank that work out, it is a shame that we are not compensated for such.  If you are an MT from home, there are quite a lot of advantages to that.  I also have found that working online is less stressful, therefore, I really do not mind the cut in pay.  The online work is where I have taken the cut.  It is not the accounts that I have attained on my own.  My suggestion would be to cut out the MTSO and gain your own accounts, and I think you'll find that MT pay is really good.  Sometimes you have to take your own initiative to make a situation better.  What is the saying?  When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!
This attitude is a prime example of why
LOL
