Or a whole paragraph! Yes, I have actually cussed out loud!
We should get paid for this! It is our time and money!
why not remove your resume instead of voicing disdain? NM

Disgusted too!!

You're not without company!  I wanted to reply because I feel your pain.  Part of being an MT (for me) is I can't stand the "rat race."  The way some companies handle themselves is unexplainable.  To me, employment should be a win/win situation.  Instead, they act as though they hold the almighty key and we should take it, gratefully.  I would like to know what my working situation will be before I begin.  Don't I have the right to interview them back?  Afterall, isn't it a joint effort?  Maybe I'm being unrealistic, but I hate the rat race and glad I work from home.  I'm just not cut out for these office people.

Disgusted!

I'm just totally disgusted when clinics call me inquiring about service. I always ask to receive copies of transcripts before I quote a price.  The quality of their transcripts is just a complete joke, and that's putting it mildly.  Run-on sentences, no punctuation, etc.  It just really looks like a fifth grader typed it.  You'd certainly think that with all the years of education the docs have had, they wouldn't tolerate this slop to save a dime.  What a joke!  I really feel sorry for the health care in our country. And you know what the problem is with this?  The docs don't call directly to speak wtih the MT Service owner - they have "their girl" do it, who doesn't know a hoot and a holler about medical transcription -- just the bottom line - "HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE?"  I do believe once the docs take the time and interest in their patients' notes, things may change.

What's your opinion on this?

DISGUSTED!!!

Has this happened to anyone else?  Once you learn an account, get pretty decent lines, making decent money, boom -- your account is switched.  Then, when requesting downtime, oh no, we are not paying downtime, we had to take work from you because of your low QA (up until then QA was 99+ or better) hummmm???  (P.S. I have 22 years experience, not at all new to this game).  I am receiving corrected reports for mistakes in THEIR macros, which I had informed them about and was told to leave them.....???  I was told, "Oh sure, we have LOTS of work, then run out almost daily....

I read a post from an MTSO wondering if there were any good transcriptionsts out there (you bet there are!!), well I am wondering if there are any decent companies left out there.  I have worked for a couple different ones now, seem to me they are all shady characters.  They promise you the moon, then once you are working for them, everything changes.  Nothing is the way they promised!!  Seems like once a Transcriptionist starts making some really good money, they do everyting they can to take it away.  I need to win the lottery!!!  or a new job.

Disgusted with this site
I'm almost to the point that I don't even open this site when I see it in my E-mail.  The subjects discussed are in no way related to my profession as a medical transscriptionist.  Who cares if you go to Wal-Mart or Target, really?   And the bickering back and forth is so petty and stupid.  To carry on an ongoing dialogue about who knows what and who is the smarter is pretty stupid.  I have more important things to do with my time.  Can't we make this a professional site?
Discouraged and disgusted
I have a training course, a 3-month internship, and 4 months employment into this line of work and I here I am only making 2-5 cpl.  I apply for jobs, but they won't even let me test.  Why is this profession so hard to break in to? It seems so incredibly impersonal and these human resource people seem so curt and rude, like you're not a real person.  Today I feel like I've made a huge and costly mistake getting into this business. Anyone out there considering it should think twice!
I don't do crummy work, but I am quite disgusted with what I see in this industry.

I don't know why we put up with it.  They lower our pay, send our jobs overseas, expect us to be on call for no pay at all.  They dance around the IRS definitions of employee, SE and IC.  I've been threatened before, verbally or email abused by supervisors, and even had to resort to legal tactics to get my rightfully deserved pay.

All they care about is production.  I've mentioned to my supervisors a few times when I found errors in medical records or extra spaces showing up at the end of paragraphs in people's work.  I wasn't tattling or trying to get anyone fired, but I felt the errors should have been fixed.  Nothing was done.  The people churning out those reports make more money than I do because I take the time to look things up and properly format everything.  It doesn' t get me anywhere.

I am most definitely NOT sloppy.  I am disillusioned because we are treated as nothing more than sweatshop TYPISTS.

I'm not sure which I'm more disgusted with..your glee at the money or your laughing at him bei
upset.  Better check the will..he just might add a clause that you lose the money if you remarry!
Is anyone else as disgusted as I am with the current network TV fare? (sm)
I have never seen so much junk on television as there seems to be this summer season so far.  I tuned in to those two new reality series - the one on ABC last night, Master of Champions, and the one on NBC on Tuesday, America's Got Talent.  The one on Tuesday was nothing more than a take-off of the old Gong Show.  Ridiculous people doing crazy stuff that somebody thinks is talent.  And the only really "talented" ones are minor talents at best.  Last night's show I thought would be more interesting with the contortionist kid who shot an arrow with her feet (that one was actually good) and drift drivers.  However, they lost me in the first five minutes when they turned the drift drivers into motorized cheese graters.  (They basically had to do cookies about this block of cheese with this grater attachment.)  This reality stuff has just gone completely overboard when the major networks are putting this kind of garbage.  This is the type of stuff I would expect to see on the lesser networks.  I'm ready to throw the TV out the window!
If you know it is a new paragraph, then by
all means make it one. If she does not like the way you are typing them, she will be sure and let you know.
do paragraph, then scan over it
I listen as I go along also.  It really gets to be quite easy.  To reread the report definitely would cost money.  I do a paragraph or so and as the doctor is shuffling papers or gathering his thoughts, not really dictating, I scan down the paragraph to make sure it is okay.
LOL! I love your last paragraph and sm
isn't it the honest to God truth!
Your first paragraph I agree with.
From then on- no. It is not our fault that healthcare costs so much. I can remember (telling my age here) when an office visit at the local doctor was $15- a physical was $30. The last time I went the total cost, including paying the lab separately for interpreting, was almost $400. Medical care has become big business like everything else. The problem is that MT's are not considered as part of the team in the way that nurses, physicians assistants, etc., are. Doctors would never get away with not paying benefits for the rest of their staff. Oh, they would if they could. Your last paragraph is true in the sense that if she cannot find what she needs she may have to CHANGE her career. The good work may be out there, but there is certainly not enough of it to go around.
Read this paragraph closely.....
She was hired as part of CBay's corporate social-responsibility experiment, and although the program reflects only a tiny corner of a vast industry, it has turned up an unexpected truth: Blindness seems to infuse the outsourcing transaction with a warmth and a mystique that the sighted often fail to see, almost as though outsourcing were made for the blind.

"It's our advantage, this imagination thing

Where's the company's corporate social responsibility to this country.........this just burns me up.......

now we know folks......is this ridiculous comment suppose to make those of us losing our jobs feel better?

"outsourcing was made for the blind"

It's this thread, 2nd to last paragraph (See Inside)
Quote from original post:

*It means no more benefits as an employee and I can't get health insurance on my own, but I did without for 15 years before that. I'll have to be an IC, but I have two IC positions and between the two is going to be more than okay financially and with taxes. Plus, I think I am going to have more time because I am not strapped to my desk for the same shift hours week after week. It should allow me to pursue a master's degree and have a life. *

You clearly state you are going to be an IC. Keystrokes does not hire ICs. I'm not picking your post apart; it's just the inconsistencies are pretty obvious and I'm more confused now than I was originally.

I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering what the heck is going on with these 2 posts that contradict each other.

SM for stacked versus paragraph form.

Stacked form would be:

PHYSCIAL EXAMINATION:

VITAL SIGNS:

HEENT:

NECK:

CHEST:

Paragraph is :

PHYSICAL EXAMINATION:  VITAL SIGNS:  Blood pressure 120/80.  HEENT:  Head is normocephalic... etc.

Hope that helps.

Ctrl+E centers the line or whole paragraph. nm

Helpful for me was to turn on paragraph marks (sm)
I was told that those are the "containers" for all the formatting codes. You can't see them, but sometimes if you have a tricky formatting problem, you can copy and paste a paragraph mark from one place to another and it quick-fixes problems.

Having the marks on there takes a little getting used to, but it didn't take long.
Is SOAP format always in paragraph form? *sm*

or is it common to transcribe headings within a SOAP report? For example, a SOAP report with a PE section?

Thanks in advance!

In IT, a paragraph is always in entry screen (from Wordpad). How do I get rid of this 4ever?
dd
Can't you change it in Format/Paragraph/Line spacing like
s
Actually, it does check the body of a paragraph, but not the last sentence of a document....what'
.
The ones that I hate are where the doctor dictates a full line or paragraph,
and says, "No, wait, go back, change that."  Then you have to delete everything you already typed and retype the new dictation.  Some of these newer doctors do that to nearly every sentence.  By the time you finish the report, you've typed and erased half the report.  Do we get paid for that?  NO.  I don't get it.  We still have to pay for doctor visits if they misdiagnose us, then we have to pay for the subsequent visit to fix what they didn't diagnose the first time.  We should get paid by them for typing what they said, erasing it and retyping what they meant to say.  They're getting our wallets coming and going.
Chars aren't counted in gross lines. If you have a 4-line paragraph...sm
you have 4 gross lines, no matter how long or short the sentences are. A heading on it's own line is 1 gross line. A signature on it's own line is 1 gross line. The date at the top of a document on it's own line is 1 gross line. Anything on a line going from margin to margin is 1 gross line, no matter how few or many characters, or if there are spaces or not, even if there's only 1 character on that line like 'A' for instance. Does this  help? :)
You can set Word to not count blank lines by changing your paragraph style
to automatically double space after the paragraph.
ExtText by Dictaphone -- Word 2000 - won't capitalize when making a new paragraph or after lists?
Hi. I am new at a job. The Word 2000 running in ExtText (Dictaphone) will not capitalize at the beginning of a new paragraph (never had that happen before), nor after numbers in an automatic list, and sometimes even just after plain periods, not just periods used in numbers (like hemoglobin 7.5).

What is going on? It works fine in the Word version on my computer, but when it ties with ExtText, it "forgets" to capitalize. It is especially annoying with lists, and also at the first of paragraphs, I never had to babysit that before.

Any help? TX
Say it loud!!
So true, so true.....
LOUD AND CLEAR
and let us not forget the nonresponsive e-mails when one does inquire as to where their lines are going. Take the old server down here and there and lose 300 LINES A DAY. YES, WE LOVE IT! NOT
Laughing Out Loud. nm
;
Then for CRYING OUT LOUD.....
Let HIM worry about this.  How and why do you think it's YOUR problem!!   They're paying you to transcribe, not to breast feed/babysit them.  Learn to pull that monkey off your back and put it on the back where it belongs, would you??????????????????  I swear, this is the last air head post I'm ever going to read or respond to on this ridiculous board.
No loud music at all. It is more sm

like soothing music you would get with yoga.  A lot of people like Windsor Pilates.  I personally did not care for them.  I LOVE Denise Austin's pilates DVDs.  I have a couple.  One has a 30-minute workout and then I have one that is Hit the Spot in which the work outs are only 10 minutes.  I will do one of the core or abdomen ones in the a.m. and then do a lower bod one later in the day.

Pilates do wonders for your strength, toning, flexibility.  I have been doing them off and on for years.  If I stop doing them for a few months and come back, I can tell the different in my flexibility and strength in just about 4 work outs.  I do them about 3 times a week.

Just thinking out loud...
I live within walking distance of a hospital and am occasionally curious (like when I'm having an especially bad night transcribing) regarding what kind of jobs are available there, clerical-wise, though I haven't actually checked it out. I worked in house at a now-defunct hospital for 18 years as a transcriber/lab secretary and have been at home now for 12 years transcribing for 2 national companies. I feel woefully out of it regarding what goes on in hospitals these days. I'll have to say I did better overall financially transcribing in-house but frankly will never miss the office atmosphere. Frankly just hoping to hang in there another 10 years till I can retire but realize I'm gonna have to learn some different skill sets no matter what. I do believe my working second shift has always been a smart move, looks to me like way too many people competing for lines during the day. I have almost never run out of work on second shift. Not really interested in coding, either; I do enjoy transcribing. Maybe unit clerk (?) if that job title still exists? Anyway, will have to check this out.
I almost laughed out loud at what he did.
This has happened to me many times before as well. And I am always disgusted. I think that I laughed to myself because in my mind I could hear the belch, nice and juicy, and know how typically disgusting this is of these guys. Uggg. I am sorry for you, and feel for you. But it actually lightened up my day to think that I am not alone in this job. Hope your dictators are better the rest of the day.
OMG! laughed right out loud at this one sm

brand spanking new PA student dictating for the first time this week! (hoo-boy).  I thought I heard her wrong when she said "uncontributory" (I didn't), but I about fell on the floor when she gave me.....wait for it......

"no ee-lik-it drug use"  BWAAAAAAAHHAAAAAA.

Oh, for crying out loud, let it go. nm
........
it's the old thing, say it long enough, loud enough,

propaganda becomes "truth" to some who can't think for themselves.  Either that, or throw out a zillion reasons why the heinous act was done to make it "sound" good, like he is a "liberator."  OMG, too funny to even think that shrub is a liberator...shrub a liberator....too funny!

For crying out loud, it's a job. Don't take it personal.

loud-mouth neighbor
ooooooooooo, I would love 1 minute alone with your neighbor!!!!
I hear you loud and clear - sm....
I'm handing out walking papers today  to a very large practice for those exact reasons, coupled with the fact the docs dictate past the speed of sound  and their OM and medical records girl are - well, let's just say a celery stalk has more intelligence than both of them combined.  They all disgust me  and I don't want their account, not for ANY amount of money!
lol=laughing out loud, tia= thanks in advance
b
I hear you loud and clear! sm
I am feeling the EXACT same way as you. The eagerness is apparently just for show, the skill level is well below actual ability and the expectation level regarding pay is beyond reality. I know there are LOTS of good MTs out there but most of them are already employed in jobs that are fulfilling their needs. We're now looking at a lot of wannabes who don't understand what it takes to be successful in this business.
Volume is fine--it was too loud though.
I have volume controls everywhere...on speakers, on keyboard itself, on GearPlayer, and of course on the Windows "master volume" control.  I wasted so much time trying to tweak each one of those only to learn (from your awesome post) that it was the friggin' speakers!
If the problem is the loud volume you
have to keep it at to hear, there are some really good headphones out there that actually cancel outside noise so you can hear the dictator without having to keep turning it up.

Sometimes it gets like that here- last night it seemed like there were 4 different conversations going on on either side of me (and loud) and then the girl in the next cubicle's cell phone kept ringing and ringing because she wasn't there to answer it (and it was a very loud obnoxious ring). I was on total sensory overload and about ready to scream! I am thinking of getting these headphones myself- they run about 30 to 40 bucks but I guess they are worth it.
That made me laugh out loud
15 blanks! I laughed out loud. Because, I had one which I think was 20 LOL. Well, it was worthwhile...I typed a lot of discharges for people who wanted to go home to their family and hopefully those stats got out in time. There ended up really being only 1 ESL that was horrible. When I got back on later in the day, it was not so bad. Maybe the turkey brain food helped my hearing. :)
I laughed out loud for 5 minutes.
Thank you!
I hear you loud and clear
I've been an MT for 20 plus years and have decided, at the ripe old age of 49, to go to cosmetology school...because it is the quickest and cheapest thing I could find to do......and I'm a girlie girl and love makeup, hair, nails, etc. We will see how it turns out......I'm sure I'll be the oldest one there.
fer cryin out loud. Now this md says "she was placed on layoff"

When my husband ignores me, I get really loud and yell
HI, HONEY, HOW WAS YOUR DAY TODAY? I LOVE YOU!

That usually gets a smile or chuckle and a peck on the cheek out of him.
loud foul-mouthed neighbor
I could make this really long because I am so frustrated I could just strangle my neighbor.  Without going into detail it will probably sound like I am overreacting but I'll spare you all the drama.  Just know I am at my wits and am hoping for some "nice" advice on what to do about a loud mouthy neighbor.  Can someone please, please tell me the best thing to do?  I expect to hear everyday noises and don't mind those a bit--I'm used to that.  But she talks very loud and has a shrill whiny voice that I can hear through the walls.  She talks nonstop on the phone or to anyone who stops by who will listen.  All day.  And it is LOUD.  That is irritating enough but she thinks it is cute to use curse words.  She has 5 favorite ones she uses over and over and over.  I avoid going around her because it is so repulsive and I don't want my son hearing it either as she doesn't mind saying things in front of him either.  I am trying to bite my tongue because I will probably make her cry once I get started because I am so angry with her.  So the less I can say to get my point cross the better.  I really wish there was a way to handle it without speaking to her at all.  I have her email address but that doesn't seem right either.  There are lots of "details" that makes the situation much worse than it sounds but I just need some advice on how to be kind and still get my point across.  As much as I dislike her I don't want to be mean.  Help, please!  Thanks.
