Serving Over 20,000 US Medical Transcriptionists

I will never work for another company that supports offshoring to overseas countries

As posted above, I have worked for a foreign company.  The company had some US MTs working for them and IMO, they were using us to cover up.  I think we should personally stick together and stop the nonsense of our US reports going overseas.  I do have one question for those who support the Indian companies and any company that offshore overseas...where is your medical information going?  Have you thought for one minute that maybe your own SSN and address, etc, might be going overseas?

The CMT supports offshoring of American jobs.

ProScript Documentation Services does not send work overseas or employ any overseas MTs. (nm)

unfortunately they send work to other countries

they offshore to other countries from the usa because what's important to most dictators, and again unfortunately, is the cheapest price they will get for transcription......now, I didn't say they would receive good quality MT work back - but they will only be paying 3, 4 or 5 cpl for that offshore work.....so they have chosen to COMPROMISE QUALITY!!!!  Blechhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

If the company offshoring gets 8-9 cpl, then YOU, an
You should sell your services on the QUALITY of your work, not how cheaply you can give it away. If you work for less than 9 cpl, you ARE giving it away.
Just found out that my company is offshoring

However, it is still hush-hush, and evidently people aren't talking.  It is a company that has prided itself on never offshoring, and I think employees would be totally shocked if they knew.   Is it true that this board does not allow these companies to advertise here, and if so, what is "proof?"

Speaking of offshoring MT work, who does not directly send work offshore?
Just curious.  Has anyone got a list of companies who do not send work offshore?  Precyse?  MQ?  Spheris?
yes, when all that overseas work comes back
after it becomes illegal to outsource work with our personal information.  I am hoping that day comes soon.
Is it possible some of the account work is going overseas. MQ does offshore you know.
:
That kind of money is what has sent work overseas, IMO.
x
No, what's sent work overseas is cheap schools that don't teach SM
properly, churning out hoards of MTs who will undercut the good ones and then turn out terrible work.
No, corporate greed is what sends work overseas.
The only reason offshoring is alive is because our fellow Americans are too cheap to pay a living wage. They want their companies to show a greater profit and stock to go up.

I am an excellent MT. However, I can't make squat for money in this field because every single company I get on with sticks me with their lousiest accounts. I've learned seven new accounts in the past month between a small MTSO and a national. That's how it works. You do your best, QA scores reflect it, and they give you their garbage that nobody else will do.
overseas work (Saudi Arabia, Dubai)

A long long time ago, in a place far away, when I was a CMT, I used to get advertisements contracting for jobs at King Faisal Hospital in Saudi Arabia as well as a hospital in Dubai.  I just wondered if this was still going on.  Maybe they just contracted everything to India (haha).  Does anyone know about this?

To Administrators: LawScribe, one of your advertises sends all work Overseas! sm

Thought you'd want to know.  I contacted them and was told they do not hire anyone local in the USA, and only hire overseas.  How interesting?  Since you don't support overseas coming and taking our jobs, I thought you'd be interested in knowing this, or maybe you already know?

Have a great day!

My idea on what the U.S. should do about offshoring work of ALL kinds... (s/m)

I can understand U.S. companies wanting to cut costs and make a profit, and that of course is why they offshore.  Even though it's at a huge cost to American workers.  Which of course ultimately hurts the overall economy, because displaced workers have much less money to spend on goods & services, etc.

Offshoring isn't likely to be outlawed (though I sure wish it were, especially when it comes to sensitive records, such as financial and medical records!)  But don't you think that if the U.S. is going to allow companies to send work offshore, those companies should have to pay a pretty hefty TAX for that privilege?

Here in Calif., our infrastructure such as roads, bridges, school system, fire and police departments, etc. is crumbling, and always needs more money.  So of course they continue to raise taxes on us working-class people - the same ones whose jobs are going offshore!  They get a little from the Lottery, and a little more from Indian casinos, who are paying the state for the privilege of running gambling casinos in a state where gambling casinos aren't legal!  There is a tax on liquor and tobacco.  All of those things aren't really good for people, and should be taxed.

Well, offshoring work away from hard-working, middle-class Americans isn't good for people, either!  So don't you think companies should be encouraged to keep their work onshore by a TAX that would not only help each state in this country pay for things, but also remove the huge profits those companies make by taking good jobs away from Americans?  Maybe that money could even be used to save our failing Social Security system.

You don't want to work for this company. Call your current company and
tell them that you have decided against the new position and tell them that you would like to stay. It is cheaper for them to let you stay than to train someone new. A company who could be so tacky as the one you just spoke of is one you do not want to work for. You can rescind your resignation. If you are a good MT, they will be glad you did.
wrist supports

Does anyone recommend a certain kind of wrist support to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome?  It looks like there are so many to choose from.

All I know is it caused the company I work for to be unable to do all work due today and the rest

Offshoring to India...Offshoring.

i used to work for a company that divided the work types up and i loved it. sm
there were only 4 of us working a major teaching hospital. someone was assigned surgery, different assigned discharges, different admits, etc. we all had the backup work type in case the original assignee wasn't available and were cross trained. it made us much more efficient, ability to get used to dictators, set macros, and in the long run we were all much happier.
The company I work for said cable phone wouldn't work, just FYI.
nm
I wear wrist supports,

and with the wrist rest attached it puts my fingers/hands/wrists at an angle that isn't comfortable for me.

wrist supports like crafters

use, i.e. women who do a lot of crochet work have some elastic stretch wrist supports.  I used them once when I was pretty new to typing 8 hours at a time when my hand muscles were weak and my fingers had a mind of their own.  I haven't used them for years, but I did like them.  I thought to try these out http://www.scriphessco.com/itemdetail.asp?cat=313106&MENU=313106&item=705+0002   Also note that pain in the hands can be caused by pressure on the ulnar nerve (right under the elbow at the forearm) eventually, which can be relieved by using a down-feather filled pad you can make yourself (not goose feather, but actual goose down).  I know one gal who had her ulnar surgical relocated.

There are other things to look out for, like pain in the hips, lower back, neck, shoulders, ....

Keep track of me via E-mail if you like.

There are various forms of back supports
you can purchase for your chair, or check with your physician for chair types.
slinging insults supports her theory
you know. The OP made some plausible, even if offensive, statements. However, I am ashamed at your comment and even more offended by it.
Spellex already supports Office 2007
I just recently got a new computer and it came preloaded with Vista and Office 2007. I went to Spellex's website and they had the Office 2007 version already available and I believe it was $40 for the upgrade for current customers. Hope this helps :)!!
Punjab is in India - she supports outsourcing. nm

Anon, I notice you are very critical to anyone who supports SS or the other
done anything personal to you or are you just stirring the pot?
Are the $30 lumbar supports from Office Depot
nm
Make sure the platform you are transcribing in supports these, many these days
do not.
I would like to hear about personal experiences with lumbar supports

Please don't flame me, but I'm glad somebody eats meat. That's how my husband supports us,
cutter. I do think that everyone has the right to make the choice whether to eat meat or not. Some days I want meat really bad, and other days I can do without it. I'm glad that I live in a country where I can make the choice for myself and everyone else can make their own choice, too.
What about different countries
nm
You mean the countries of the "irrelevant" UN?
You mean "Old Europe"? You mean the country whose fine wine is poured down the gutters here? You mean that country whose democratically elected leader should be assassinated?

Pop Quiz: In what year did 14,000 French die in a heat wave?

Answer: 2003. Don't you remember all that news coverage we got here and how generous everybody was? Perhaps the freedom fries have affected your memory.
Selling the BOS to MTs in other countries?
Does the AAMT really sell the BOS to MTs in India and Pakistan?  Can MTs there belong to the AAMT?
I see the difference, but in other countries...
they consider dogs and cats as food consumption. They were in other countries killing birds over the bird flu which were their pets and some were for food consumption, but they have to kill them all because it travels. They are totally different than we are here in the states when it comes to dogs and cats. I gave up Chinese food for that reason and stick to only Loo mein and hope that it's really a noodle. lol
Outsourcing to other countries

We are the only ones who can do something about this.  I wanted to toss around some ideas.

A.  We should research and get all the information we need, talk to lawyers and talk to anyone who can help us get started.

B.  We should have a new association.  American Medical Transcription Association – AMTA.  That is just an idea.

C.  Picket lines.  OFFSHORE NO MORE!!  Sorry, I borrowed the phrase from another poster.  I hope you don't mind.

D.  We should notify news papers, news stations, and talks shows that actually make a difference sometimes (Montel, Oprah……any other ideas for that?)

E.  We should notify all clinics, hospitals, doctors, and any/every place in the United States and Canada that need transcription services.

F.  We need to notify the general public…refer to D.

G.  A specific board, group, or chat room dedicated only to OFFSHORE NO MORE should be created and moderated accordingly.

H.  Union?  What do we need to do to get this started?

I don't know where to start, but we, collectively, need to do something.  I have been wondering we could possibly be (sp?) black balled if our identities are revealed?  If so, it won't last forever.  Maybe the beginning of all this needs to be the new association and that can be our steppingstone.  We can make this better for our future and future MTs.  The thing is that we need to do something.  We can't just talk about it and complain against it and hope that someone else will do something for us or that someone else will take a stand.  We have a voice if do this together.  The ball just needs to start rolling….

We might as well face it, we are being taken over by other countries, thanks to our

government.  You have got to read this article at

I just want to crawl in a hole and DIE!  I am so worried for my children.  Soon, the US of A will be owned, run and operated by other countries totally!

UNBELIEVABLE!

I don't work for MQ but that happened to me once at the company where I work and
my next two paychecks were shorted out of what they had overpaid me for that pay period. I hope they don't take it out of your hide. It was hard to budget for that month!
Company I work for has to pay fines for work out of TAT.

I work as an IC, work when I want, but I still let the company know if I am going to be unavailable
for any length of time, even though I don't have to.
As one of the richest countries in the WORLD, it's not odd
that other countries think we can help ourselves. Makes absolute sense to me that no one is offering help.
Reports are going to third world countries, often with out SS#. nm
:+
USA has safeguards that 3rd World Countries DO NOT!
Like your MTSO or ISP company being subpoened to give up your name and address.

Like a city, county, state or federal Attorney General's office who will proceed to charge, prosecute and imprison you for divulging, or worse, blackmailing an institution, like a Pakistani transcriber did, in 2003.

At least we know the American Criminal Justice System can and will prosecute, but what can an American Institution or patient do about violation of privacy or blackmail in India or Pakistan?--VERY LITTLE.
Hey, bombing other countries defeated Hitler.

Background checks on MTs fro third world countries?? LoL. Are you serious? nm

All other countries expect newcomers to learn

I wonder if CS is ALSO teaching Coding to India & other countries?
I know they teach MT to India and other countries, the latest one being Jamaica.

Yet they still take money from US students, even though they are training overseas to help them take more jobs away.
donations for the relief coming from 50+ countries, including

You are worried about your home? Most of these records go to third world countries. I would rather

Sadly, I agree that more and more jobs are going to go to 3rd world countries. However, that is not

Ppl are so concerned about HIPAA. Most records, including SS#, go to 3rd world countries!
