I did 103 minutes of dictation today
and it took me 6-1/2 hours. Let's see if I can do the math ... 6-1/2 hours = 390 minutes of my time, divided by 103 minutes' worth of dictation, comes out to 3.78 and change, so that means each minute of dictation took me 3.78 minutes to transcribe... right?

That included several difficult dictators, the ones with the long pauses while they shuffled papers--and a lot of e-mail reading (and answering) and internet-surfing on my part in between. Shh! Don't tell anybody!
I manged 126 minutes today over the course- sm
of 12 hours with interruptions, breaks, dinner, kid's homework, etc. Depending on the dictator I can do 10-20 minutes an hour, average 15 minutes an hour I would say.
Well, collectively it probably took 20 minutes of my time to post today.
My kids are out and about. I did all my work. I'm a good girl, you see! I don't really get your perceived "jab" at me at all.  Why do you think that because I am in favor of someone being an MT and keeping their precious baby at home as opposed to in day care, that somehow that means I say I spend every minute of my life focused on my kids? I really think when you respond like this, its because you are not confident in your own life - I won't delve deeper, but you feel guilty. Guilty enough to have to make fun of me and put imaginary words in my mouth.  I never said a whisper or innuendo that MT mothers with kids at home have to focus every second of their lives on their kids. That's ridiculous! We all know that!  And I assume you're the same poster above about camp? You use the same SM.  I am sorry to disappoint you that I don't understand your "revelation" about my identity! I never said a word here about camp, and don't follow that thought at all.  The OP asked if she could do it - be an MT and have a baby at home. I recognize another poster from below, childfree by choice. She and I have had some wonderful debates in the past, and I think we usually agree to disagree! But certainly nice meeting you, I think??
I had no idea how many minutes I type in a day, so I checked some stats today....
I did 72.53 minutes and it took me about 6.5 to 7 hours.
I used to say he nursed for 30 minutes every 30 minutes. I was trying to figure
out a way to strap him across my chest so he could help himself while I went about whatever it was I had to do.    I really miss those days too.
No, I just was finished with my break and had to
get back to work. VPN is not connecting and I'm on hold with tech support.

There are a few things that would make me leave: A really harsh line rate cut for the same work; being forced to be an employee with a set schedule are two reasons that come to mind immediately.
OMG! Just finished listening to a doc with the -
next thing to laryngitis!  What a treat that was!
oops - sent before I finished ...
Now for 2007, they are planning to start sending 20% of our local plant's work overseas. Twenty percent of my little town's factory workers from this place will be out of a job. This is just the start.

Finally finished, no dead air.

Just finished. Took an hour. No blanks. Going to
and drink a beer lol
36+ years. I wish I had finished my Masters. sm
The field is changing. I would never recommend it.  I do not see a bright future.
Just Finished Treatment for Sciatica

I was diagnosed with sciatica/piriformis syndrome about a month ago. My physiatrist sent me to physical therapy for Graston therapy and iontophoresis. I was to the point where I had to sleep in my recliner with a heating pad on my hip. Of course, this is the result of sitting for too long......a battle wound common to the medical transcriptionist.

The Graston therapy is pretty painful and you really wonder how it could possibly help. The iontophoresis consisted of a patch with two large circular pads connected by an electrode. The pads are soaked with dexamethasone. The patch is then stuck to the butt for 24 hours. It's painless, except I pulled off a couple of layers of skin when I removed them. I had this done about 5-6 different times over a three-week period. I was also taught some gentle stretches to stretch these muscles, which I haven't been too diligent about doing.

Bottom line is that I completed my PT about two weeks ago and I haven't had any pain since then. I hope you get some relief for your condition. I know how very painful it can be.

Just finished jury duty....
Ended up getting almost as much reimbursement for jury duty as I would have working, when mileage was figured in. Only had to be there 2 days, so it wasn't a hardship. Met some interesting people and was overall a positive experience. I was VERY reluctant, but was glad I did it.
My SIL finished a course at a local college

She got a job on-site and could be sent home, but she has decided to cross-train for a management position.  If she takes it, the salary is $65,000.00 per year.  So tell me there isn't money in this business.  She just finished her course!!!

Wait. I misunderstood. MS4 = student, a Mr. - R4 = MD, but not finished SM
with residency in his specialty.
My son just finished is enlistment..best thing that every happened to him..I sent them my son..they

Do they hire people that haven't finished their MT course yet?
I'd like to know what kind of test they give people, folks who have barely even started the transcription portion of their MT course, yet they're being hired as MTs. Gives us all a bad name.
I just finished training, which I thought was GREAT! sm
The platform is EXText, although I think they have others. I like the way they seem better organized than other companies I've tried. I'll let you know about the 2-week honeymoon period whether the "marriage" will last or not!
I do the same thing. Then when the report is finished, I scan back through
the whole report to make sure I didn't leave any stop code markers behind, and listen to each blank once again.
Pole (North): Have U finished ur Christmas shopping?
I'll start: NO!

HELP with Shorthand. Suddenly today when I tried to start work today.sm

my ShortHand would type only the first letter of an expansion and then take all the letters away!  I checked and the Type It button is grayed out!  I have restarted the computer and looked on the Shorthand Help menu but can find nothing that applies.  Can anyone please help me ASAP?  I am lost without it!  TIA

Perhaps you are right. This one is dated today. The original article was on Yahoo today also with

But this article states it would only affect new customers right now.  So I am upset over nothing.  I went through heck with BellSouth when they charged me a surcharge of an extra 50 a month and then would write a letter saying I had to switch to a long distance service and pay by the minute because of my "excessive" use. They told me the unlimited charge was for an average of an hour a day not somebody who worked out of their home and I needed to switch a business plan at over 200 a month charge.  I switched over to cable because of that and then to read that cable was going to charging on a per use fee and not a flat monthly fee it upset me.  It is the nature of our work, VR, only paying for VBC, having headers and footers taken away, now being charged for being on line, etc.  It just seems that everything is done to keep to insure less money.

Well I just finished watching Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy. How that for an evening. N

my friend just finished her BSN 2 years ago, working 32 hr/week making $60K with benefits nm

Wants high quality finished product at 3 cpl editing and 6-8 cpl straight typing. Also rumored she
doesnt like to pay in a timely manner. I passed..
Blasted cold out today. It was 104 degrees last week, but it's 40 degrees today with rain.
However, I do like cozy days like today when I don't have to go anywhere.  I'm done working, the house is clean, there's chili on the stove for dinner already, and I'm just putzing around.  I think I'll go bake some jalapeno cheese bread to go with the chili.
A nice sunny room just for me in our finished lower level. Love my cocoon room.

POLL - Do you proof as you go or proof when finished? sm

I proof after, but would love to proof during.  I'm working on it.  I'm curious as to what percentage of MTs proof as they go or proof at the end?

Thx for responding.

It has taken me 20 minutes to look up
addresses for one patient report.  That's a whopping four lines there.  Someone mentioned earlier making sure that the platform was user friendly.  It's simple enough to use, but this looking up information has got to go if I'm going to make any money at all.  I wish I could find something where I could just cruise.  Any ideas on companies without all the extra research done for free?
60 minutes

Depending on which account but 60 minutes to me is about $100 to $175 for me.    If it would be my surgeons would be over $200.  Sure they did not mean for 60 minutes of transcribing -- $40 per hour?  Even dividing by minute that is less than $1 per minute.  Way too low.

So, you are saying then that 90 minutes sm
would take approximately 4.5 to 5 hours?
I think 60 minutes and all of you should
Enough already!  I'm sorry, but quite frankly your energy could be spent on much more important issues than offshoring medical records.  Let's bring the fathers and mothers home.  There are still physicians/facilities that use U.S. MTs.  JMO.
minutes
Anywhere from 175-250 depending on account.
It's on again in about 45 minutes.
Should be, anyway.
i had an 800 # before and yes we had to pay for minutes used. sm
i am sure there are different options out there and this was 5+ years ago though. could you rerecord and send to her via net?
I just saw one a few minutes ago

I sent it to 60 Minutes
I sent the link to 60 Minutes. If I hear anything back, I will let you all know. Something needs to be done. To be truthful, I feel almost as bad for poor Indian workers being used by US companies and paid nothing, when they don't have the ability to do the job they are hired for. It's bad all around. I am sure there's plenty of work in their own country where they would at least be able to do a halfway decent job. It sure would spare us in the US having to re-do their reports before they are acceptable to send to clients.

Since about 1994 off and on and about 15 minutes

I've been a transcriptionist off and on for years, probably 5-6 years FTE. I've always thought about getting the certification, but it used to be somewhat involved to do the testing. Of course, it's always been expensive with limited payoff.

I was applying for jobs about a month ago, and all the potential employers asked if I had my CMT. That tells me they think it is worth something even if we, the workerbees, don't.

I didn't really study for it. I opened my notebook and looked at Latin/Greek pluralizaiton rules, and then put the book down. I figured if I didn't know it yet from my day to day work and from college, I wasn't going to be able to learn it in time. Really, I don't know how a person could study for it. The questions came from such a broad area. I really think AAMT has come up with a good test.

I'm glad I took it, and I will do the CEs to keep the designation and to make me better at what I do.

It took me 30 minutes to look-up a patient.

80-100 minutes of dictation
Can anyone tell me approximately how long 80-100 minutes of dictation takes to do with variables I know of a good or bad dictator but on average.  A 60 minute microcassette tape on both sides of 120 minutes, is that something to compare this to? Thank you.
Mine only last 30-60 minutes,
but they sometimes come daily for a couple of weeks. My eye doctor said there's not much you can do for them.
Walking 30 minutes per day sm
with the dogs (all 160 pounds worth!) has my back and the leg cramps have nearly disappeared as well as the lower leg edema. I can actually sit longer now and don't need so much in the way of pain meds and no heating pad for the leg cramps. And other benefits too, lost 5 pounds, concentrate better, sleep better, fresh air.
"Oh, Mom" every ten minutes

I take on anywhere from 90-150 minutes almost every weekend - sm
every now and then I take off or take on less to give myself a break though and to be with the kids.  They think I work all the time (which I do it seems) and are surprised when I don't.  Trying to work smarter so I can spend more time with them, I don't want them to remember their childhood saying "well mom was always working".
minutes vs. per line
I've always worked in-house radiology by the hour.  Now, I'm considering going elsewhere but I have no idea what I average as far as lines/day.  I know I average 15-20 minutes of dictation an hour, but what is that by the line?  And what is a good radiology cpl pay with 4-5 years experience?  Thanks for your input!
