My recliner
Because I am not yet working in my recliner, I am not 100% sure what is going to be the best way to handle the foot pedal, but I had bought a tray that I was planning to use to hold the keyboard while sitting in the recliner, which I purchased prior to coming across the AlphaGrip, and my problem with using the tray for the keyboard had always been the stinkin' MOUSE! Well, since I won't need the tray while using the AlphaGrip, my plan is to try using it for the footpedal. I am able to change both the height and the angle of the tray, but it is pretty lightweight so I will probably have to build a "wall" of some kind or weight it down. The chair is able to recline without having the foot pulled up, so for now I just practice the AlphaGrip either from the chair I use while keyboarding or use the recliner without pulling the foot up.

I'll get there one day, hopefully sooner than later :)
Recliner

I've had to use my recliner in the past when I was having my office remodeled.  During this time, I placed my keyboard in my lap with a small blanket or towel underneath to offer stabilization without being too stiff.  For my monitor and mouse, I used a TV tray which I sat just to the right of my recliner.  I then used a small step-stool for my foot pedal.  It was just the right height and it didn't get in the way when I needed to get up.

Although I was comfortable and had everything in just the right position, I found that my recliner was too comfortable (which I didn't know was possible!) and this lead to back stiffness by the end of the day and decreased production due to the sleepiness that I experienced from being in such a relaxed position all day.

I now only use the recliner when I need a change of scenery or when I am unable to locate my desk due to excessive clutter!  I also have since bought a laptop which can be used with a wireless mouse and keyboard so my lap doesn't get too hot.  Those lap cushions are great for keeping the heat off my lap, but they also put the laptop's keyboard at an akward height for transcribing.

Recliner
I had bought a tray that I was hoping to use to put my keyboard in my lap. I can't remember the name of it offhand, but it is adjustable in height and angle. My recliner sits on an old futon frame so that I can roll my laptop desk underneath and have my computer in front of me, and I set the tray up at the foot, also on the futon frame, at just the right height and angle. I have threatened to post a picture on here before, but still have not done so. I'll try to get my son to help me with that as soon as I get out from under the work I've got . . . hopefully tomorrow afternoon.
MTs who type in a recliner or bed?
Isn't it awkward to type in bed or a recliner?  Where do you put the pedal so that you are in a good comfy position?  Are you using a pedal or the keyboard for the audio files?   I am just trying to picture this?
Okay, here is a pic of my recliner setup

RE: For those of you who use laptops - where do you do most of your work, i.e. in a recliner (sm)

at a desk, at the kitchen table, etc.??  Just curious.  I'm serious wanting a laptop so I don't have to be chained to this desk

omg -- listen, get in a recliner and prop that leg up. then
you can put a small cloth over your footpedal and put it under your elbow and just lean a little on it and type! lol

i know it sounds wierd but it works! that way your foot can be elevated properly and you can still work from the comfort of the recliner!

hope that helps!
You sit in a recliner? I sit in a chaise and love it! Except, I sm
need to use a foot pedal. How do you MT without a foot pedal?
Slept in a recliner for a year before I got mine....LOVE IT. sm

I have degenerative disk disease in my lumbar and cervical spine.  We got a king sized, fully adjustable because of the level of my problems.  I rarely have had to use the adjustments because having found my "number" I am provided with an incredible night sleep.  My number is 35 and it has changed my life.  I have significantly less pain, I can sleep ALL NIGHT without rolling over and over and over in pain.  Wish I would have gotten it when it first came out.  We have had it for 2 years now.  I recommend it to everyone who asks.

Recliner/foot pedal side view
As you can see, it is not all that pretty.  The tray tended to move when I would press the pedal.  A few large, heavy bricks and two PDRs later, all is well!!
I'm trying to purchase a new recliner for my mother. She has multiple medical problems and is ab
5 ft. tall, so her little legs always kind of "hang." I've seen on TV different recliners, motorized, with this and that feature, I keep thinking Craftmatic, but I've looked through there and only see beds. Anyone has any ideas or suggestions? I know my sweet little Mom would really appreciate it.
If is difficult to work in a recliner and push a foot pedal. It can
be done but creates a strain on your feet/ankles and slows you down.  I work on a picnic table under an awning when the weather is nice, but I'm not able to work as well as I do at my desk because I'm not able to have a keyboard tray and working with my keyboard on the table makes it too high.  I've even tried work in bed using a tray across my lap, but then again you have the problem with pushing the foot pedal.   You could use the keyboard for your function keys but it would really slow you down.
You could set it up as a table.
Format the box where the information is to be typed with a line as the bottom border.
Table in latin...
There is simply no one prevailing characteristic of Mensa members other than high IQ. There are Mensans for whom Mensa provides a sense of family, and others for whom it is a casual social activity. There have been many marriages made in Mensa, but for many people, it is simply a stimulating opportunity for the mind. Most Mensans have a good sense of humor, and they like to talk. And, usually, they have a lot to say.

Mensans range in age from 4 to 94, but most are between 20 and 60. In education they range from preschoolers to high school dropouts to people with multiple doctorates. There are Mensans on welfare and Mensans who are millionaires. As far as occupations, the range is staggering. Mensa has professors and truck drivers, scientists and firefighters, computer programmers and farmers, artists, military people, musicians, laborers, police officers, glassblowers--the diverse list goes on and on. There are famous Mensans and prize-winning Mensans, but there are many whose names you wouldn't know.

Hmmmm...Doesn't say anything about haughty and high minded!!!
or you can set up your information in a table sm
so that things don't move around. Set each cell's attributes so that the cell size won't change and the information would wrap down to the next line if it needed to.

The information you stated above would be in a table with 2 rows across and 4 columns. Patient name would be one cell, @@ would be the next, dob the next, and@@ the final cell in that row. You can even set each cell to be bold, italic, whatever. Make sense?

Good luck!
ants on the table
I have heard that if you have ants and can't get rid of them you also have termites. Hate to scare you, but you might want to hve it checked out to be sure. I worked for us at one place we lived. Good luck, hope it is nothing bad.
my header is in a table and want it to list in
format in document. So my header is in table format but my document has headings can you do this that it automatically fills them in for you or do you have to do each one singly?
ants on the kitchen table
Anybody else have a problem with ants on the table.  We even fogged the house, used raid and still they come back.  Any suggestions?
I am not a total dweeb about this- they do clear the table, -sm
put stuff away (yes under duress) but my husband is probably the worst offender in the family....his mom is a clean freak so he never learned to pick up after himself and feels he should not have to. His clothes would still be in boxes if I had not unpacked them after staring at te boxes for a YEAR in our bedroom...I couldn't take it anymore. He won't part with any clothes either so I will get my revenge by donating about 90% of his shirts since he never wears them anyway. Still working hard to train him, trying to get it through his head that he has to clean up after himself so the kids will follow his example. He does put the dishes in the sink for the most part but they have to get into the dishwasher somehow don't they? Hence elves. What I tend to do is pick up shoes, clothes, general straightening up, etc. I do ask them to pick up if they are around and they actually fight over who gets to mop the floor (they both want to)...they are 7 and 5, so the 7-y/o cleans the bathroom sinks, the 5-y/o picks up the toys mostly. Some days though I do it all, just depends. I use the 3-strikes and you are out rule, if I ask them to do something and they fight me on it or don't do it with repeated requests, they lose said item or priviledge for a month. So far they haven't lost anything but they have come close. Haven't worked out all the kinks but we are getting there.
Yes, they can quit their job, go self-employed or IC, and work under the table.
However, the courts aren't stupid. There is a worksheet the judge does based on the past several years' worth of taxes that XX is the amount this person is capable of making, so therefore XIX is their child support amount. It's legal and binding. There's no changing it by trying to scam the system. It is difficult to enforce but that's why our state has deadbeat parent laws. My friend's ex wound up in jail with liens against all of his property for not paying his child support.
Is this for a conference, round-table discussion, or what? nm

No table/column, etc. Just typed list of names
The list is simply typed as

John Smith, M.D.
123 Main Street
Somewhere, USA 12345

I don't even know the specialty unless it's something I have looked up on my own and made my own notes with it. I think she just added each name as she came across it, and (like me) never had a chance (or maybe no desire) to organize it. So, I've done the same, and as I come across new docs, I add them the same way.

I have the desire to organize but I just don't know how except to go name by name/line by line, and I just don't have that much concentrated time to take away from the actual transcribing.

Thanks for your help/and any more help you might have.
Having waitress' say "you guys" every time they approach each and every table.
I still want to know how they really want me to answer when then ask "Are you guys doing okay?" or "How are you guys making out?"  ????  Well my relationship with food is personal I guess!

Well, you're all complaining that accounts are current and work is low, so, gee, maybe they're
focusing on WORK, as in CLIENT and transcribing, as maybe half of you should be focusing on!!

You're probably right. Plus we're losing our percentage of good people by .... (sm)
allowing every loser from every 3rd world country on the planet to just stroll on into our country, some legally, most illegally, and take advantage of the social services all us hard working little gerbils pay for by having money taken out of our pay every month. But I don't think we're all lazy. Just the ones on permanent welfare driving around town in brand-new Cadillac Escalades. Saw one just today on the Bayshore Fwy. Brand-new black Escalade with expensive spinner wheels, with 5 or 6 Mexicans in it. Well, who knows - maybe they stole it and it was on its way to a chop-shop. Smart-and-hungry people aren't always hard-working and honest.

You're forgetting all the stuff you can't buy when you're UNEMPLOYED!
Unemployed people have a hard time buying anything, including cheaply made offshore products. How many will have to end up depending on public assistance? That means more tax dollars being eaten up - besides the taxes NOT being collected from the overseas workers. In the long run, are you really enjoying a lower price?

You're not losing it, you're burned out on your main job.
I feel for you... I am having my own "version" ;-) of these kinds of struggles. Lots of recent changes at the admin level have made my job do a 180, going from a really great one to a really crappy one.

For me, it's a struggle to get through the day with a shred of motivation. I get distracted in the way you discuss as well.

I just try to make my environment as comfortable as possible and make the best of it while I decide what the best way is to deal with the burnout... I figure if I can't change my inner brain workings so that I still like this job, I need to find another one, or this feeling will possibly get worse!

I hope it works out for you. Wish I had some better advice for you, but this really does look like burnout and extreme job dissatisfaction to me. We all wear it differently. Try to be good to yourself while you figure out a solution.

Don't know what you're complaint you're making with this post. sm

You stated in your original post that you don't want to work weekends or odd shifts. What is your definition of an odd shift?  Second shift?  Third shift?  Sounds like you want to work M-F on days.  Sounds kind of rigid to me.

Personally I like second shift, so everyone working days means more work for me!
