Sounds like the Marines at your house! I'm really glad you "schedule" some quality time wi

your kids!  I think you are way harsh with your 15-year-old stepdaughter.  What's wrong with helping with homework?  Not giving her the answers, but sitting with her and explaining things?  I help my 14-year-old with his homework and I check everything he does for errors.  If he makes mistakes, I sit down with him and explained what he did and have him do it over.

As fars as my kids getting up on their own - my kindergartener gets up without the aid of an alarm clock because she is an early riser, but my teenager has to be gotten up and personally I don't see what is wrong with that.  They are TEENAGERS!

My kids have chores and earn an allowance each week.  They must keep their rooms clean.  My son takes out the garbage, cleans the bathroom, and helps me do the dishes.  My daughter takes turns helping me do the dishes and sweeps the kitchen floor and feeds the animals.

My kids are spoiled, but what's the point in being a working mom if you can't spoil your kids every now and then?

Glad you had a good time. We just hung around the house.

hubby who went ua from marines

I was wondering the same thing?  I'm sorry for your situation, but it seems it was brought about by the choices that your husband made himself.  We all are not perfect and obviously he regrets the mistake in comitting to the service that he made & it will be a hard lesson learned.

But, for the life of me, I'm not sure why you are posting on theis board/ I thought the OP was from your Mom? about her son-in-law, then you, his wife replied to someone's negative comment? As a poster mentioned above, if your an MT, then it's reasonable for you to post here, but I think you would probably find more needed information from some type of military board, or Maybe Google it.

My daughter, like many of the "kids" who are in Iraq now, signed up for the reserves to serve their country but also to get help with their higher education..many never dreaming they'd be called to war.  We had just returned from shopping, finally finding *the* bridal gown, walked through the front door to find my husband and the rest of our kids, along with her fiance (who is in the same unit) practically in tears. Yep, they both got their orders and they both were in the first invasion.

Their unit was military police but their initial jobs were to supply mortuary service! Not anything that either of them nor anyone else in their unit, mostly kids fresh out of high school, could have ever dreamed a year prior that they'd be doing.

I thank God they all returned home safe & sound and were able to have a beautiful wedding before my sil got called back.  He's still over there, my dd is home and just finished serving as an honor guard for 5 different funerals within one week for kids that did not make it back alive and well.  No matter anyones opinion about the war, when you sign into the military, you have to serve.  Like many have posted earlier, there are thousands serving who are in the same shoes as your husband, with a spouse and kids they want to be with.  But rules are rules, if you break them, then you will suffer the consequences.

I do not think it is fair for you to come to this board asking for help, then when peopl post a reply honestly, you get down on them.  Yes, I know this is an emotional time for you, but it's also an extremely emotional time for those who know or have lost loved ones, or like myself, living in a town who have lost so many so fast and the funerals are tying up traffic more than construction is.  They have been beautiful with the roads lined by thousands of strangers who just feel for the families of these kids.  So be thankful, your husband IS home and will be able to come BACK home, after he pays the price for his decision, which is only fair.  He stillhas choices, many of the kids do not.

Sorry, just struck my last nerve.

sounds like my house
I have a lab, husky and shepherd mix.  The lab would be sitting on my lap if I let him!
That sounds about right...in-house pay here in the....
Northwest is anywhere from $13 to $23 per hour.
That sounds like an episode of Animal Cops! I'm glad it worked out in your favor. nm

All the time! Glad I'm not the only one!!!

Glad you had a good time
Glad you thought the suggestions were helpful. :) I know some people probably think we are crazy but unless you are an avid camper you might not realize how much time can be spent just getting ready! Every little time saver you can find makes the trip all the more pleasurable when you don't end up exhausted just getting ready to go. :D
Glad to hear you all had a good time. :)

Glad I cherished my children's time
at home.  They are grown now, have children of their own.  Seems they were here for a few minutes, then grew and gone. Just dearly miss those little boys coming home from school, excited with news of the day, and all the bumps and bruises, bugs they would catch, their funny little stories, little nuances, and they were so humerous and made me laugh and joked around in their teenage years.  Am so glad I had those days, but would dearly love to have my children home on vacation.  Just wish parents would choose to ENJOY their children instead feeling that they are in the way.  In the way of what?  Working?  Goodness gracious, got a lot to learn.  I agree with the poster who said that children feel what you think they do not, and it will hurt them, and you, in the years to come.
I learned along time ago: My house, my rules. sm

I have been through the wringer, trying to keep my two older kids away from "bad influences."  But I have learned.

When they were younger, I simply said, "You can play with so and so outside, but he's bratty.  If he gets bratty outside,  he'll have to go home."

When they were teenagers, I simply set the "House Rules".  Abide by them, or out you go.  Funny thing was, the friends were more compliant than my own kids. :)

If my older kids brought a friend over to stay the night because he/she was "fighting with mom/dad,"  I'd say, "Sure you can stay, but not until you call your mom or dad and tell them you are here and that you aren't going anywhere and that you are safe for the night."

I heard on occasion, "Didn't your mom say NOT to do that?"  I guess I had more "control" than they had at their own houses and they felt good about having some limits.

My son who FINALLY moved out at 19 had a few new friends that came over one night and, as they were leaving, they said,  "We'll be back around 10:30!"  I said, "Sorry guys, this place closes at 10:00 on weeknights."  They didn't come back.

I have 2 younger ones, 14 and 10.  We have a pool.  My pool rule?  No towel, no towel.  You can swim, but you can "drip dry."

Funny thing is, I've collected well over 2 dozen towels in the past 2 years that I have no idea where they came from.  If it were me, the minute my child came home, I would have said, "And where is my towel?"  Some parents just don't stay on top of things, if you know what I mean.

Glad I'm not the only pokey one. I have a terrible time trying to reach 150 lph.

Hahah!a! Funny typo: not quality 'scAre', quality 'scOre'. LMAO!...nm

Sorry, don't have time. Gotta go run around the house a couple of times. nm
:+
My "techies" come to the house and most of the time get it fixed here. They built the computer
:}
When I took a business trip one time, I came home to an immaculate house.
Then during the next few weeks, I couldn't find certain things like clothes, dishes, and items I kept on the counters. DH had decided to put all the dirty stuff out in the garage where the babysitter couldn't see it because he was embarrased by the mess he and the kids had made. There was mold and mildew on everything because he taped it inside boxes or stuffed it inside coolers, and he forgot to tell me about it.
You work full time, manage a house and cut 11 acres? No way man! Not me :)
NM
I think that depends on the quality. Do you honestly think there is good quality just throwing every
MT on any account like they are. I also think QA has been told to not waste a lot of time on blanks so I think the hospitals are getting a lot more blanks. I certainly have more when I get in a hospital I dont know and they talk 100 miles an hour.
I thought quality was a given. Speed and quality are not mutually exclusive. sm

I maintain 99% accuracy above on my reports.  However, the original question was regarding personal preference, and I have stated mine, and I respect your opinion as well.  :-)    I do think if I was working in an office or hospital setting, the setup you mentioned might be more profitable in the long run.  There are too many interruptions and such when you have other people running in and out, phones ringing, etc.

I doubt that anyone but me really cares about the lines per hour it takes for me to do a report.  They just want an accurate report in a timely manner.  I take pride in my work, and would never just slop something out for the sake of the almighty buck.   And, as an added incentive, I work for 2 companies, and one of them has my name on each report.  I don't have a problem with it, but I did think it was a bit unusual at first.

Oh well ... I must confess that what I'd TRULY like is to be paid lots of money to just sit and play Battle Phlinx on Pogo all day long, but as of yet, no such luck.

Or discpline time! My kids would be very sorry if they threw things at me or in the house. Two hours
is not too long for them to give you some space.  That's really sad for you, but maybe try to rein them in.  Can't hurt, right?
Time for a new job, it sounds like.
Let them find someone who will tolerate this kind of thing.
Ooh, that sounds good. What time should I be there?
We're probably having leftovers.  Tacos, sloppy joes, potato ham soup, and kielbasa.
sounds to be like she has no concept of time.
.
Sounds time consuming, actually
I suppose it could be productive if someone really dedicated themselves to learning a word for every key on their keyboard but I don't see how it could actually work...seeing as how there are more words in the english language than there are letters on the keyboard.

Sounds like something a court reporter might do but even then they have to use a stenograph to do that with, you can't just do it with a regular keyboard.
Sounds like it's time you established some rules
and demanded some respect. Your husband needs to respect the fact that you are working. Does he treat you with the same contempt in other areas of your life? It might be time to reevaluate the relationship and start communicating with him in a different way. He might be one of the trainable ones.
Sounds like time to find different co to test for.

There was no announcement of this policy change? Sounds like it's time to go. nm

Quality is quality whether you are an MT or CEO.

How good is the quality of the performance of your managers or the guys at the top?   Anybody want to evaluate that?   Can they get their raises based on our evaluation of their quality?

Let's see now.  Which CEOs were named in lawsuit?  F for quality.  How many managers do we need to give us stupid pep talks?   F for managers.  QA this post MQ and all other nationals who decide they reward us on "quality"   Look in the mirror and fix yourself.

what is your quality like?
.
Oh, the quality! Well now we know.

quality
I totally agree with you. There should be some kind of feedback on how you are doing. Not only for mistakes, but also if you are doing a really fine job. I know when am not real sure of something, or if I did do something wrong, I really do want to know. How else do you learn? I know too, that when someone notices a job well done and lets me know, it makes me want to strive for that "perfection", and it just plain feels good. I think the circumstance has become if nobody says anything, then it's ok, kind of leaves you in the dark. Just always remember, everything you type becomes a legal document. I'm sure you do a good job.
I can't believe the quality.
This year I had to subcontract out because I have too much work to handle, and frankly, I can't believe the appalling quality I am getting from transcriptionists with 10+ years of experience. To put it bluntly, it's shameful. I pay 11 cpl to my transcriptionists but after a year of searching, testing, and training, I have only found 2 that are actually worth it. My doctors are so easy. They are clear, they repeat everything, and there are no ESLs, but these people just don't read directions, don't proofread their work (when they clearly need to), and don't have even the basics of grammar down.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if doctors that have switched from an over-priced American company to an offshore firm didn't notice any difference in quality at all.

I know this isn't going to be a popular view but it is the truth, and I can tell you I was just as shocked to learn this as anybody.
98% quality
Hi peers,

Can someone describe me how to calculate 98% accuracy. Any description or link would be appreciated. Thx!
quality, etc.
Case in Point ~
with a union, we could at last demand to stop being treated like cattle and/or factory piece workers. What in the heck has happened to hourly salary!!??? How about straight salary? These records are, after all, LEGAL DOCUMENTS. When we are forced to type at the speed of sound instead of making the production of the highest quality possible documents our top priority, this demeans our profession.
UNION...UNION...UNION...UNION
better pay is better quality/less pay=less quality
nm
I just took one and know I did not do well, quality is not
an issue with me, but knowing I am timed my fingers just don't work.
should be quality - should have had an ESL MT do this for me
so sorry!
Why is it only for SEs? If its really quality they want it should apply to

Quality is quality whether an employee or not.

QA is Quality Assurance, QC is
Quality Control, for what that is worth
Bad quality dictation
What in heavens name do you do after starting work with a company and the dictation is so lousy qualitywise with static and the voice fading in and out.  Is this normal? Left lines in every report.  ??? Help?
Can you tell us who this is with the bad sound quality? nm
s
The other will be cheaper but no quality
x
The quality of the dictators is SM

pretty bad overall--even the Americans.  I would say with most national services, the accounts are about 75% ESL (30% terrible ESL), 20% fast Americans who don't care and 5% really good gravy dictators.

This is for acute care dictation--large hospitals.  Another problem is there are so many dictators in 1 facility that you hardly ever get the same ones day after day.

I think in QA you are seeing the low quality of MTs, not dictators sm
If I were you (and I admit I did QA for awhile and hated it, for so many more mistakes than the blanks they had sent to QA for) I would go back to MT. There is lots of money to be made, especially when you become familiar with dictators and accounts. I wouldn't do QA for anything. $15 an hour for QA versus $35 an our for MT. Go back to MT.
quality vs wages

While I do agree that there is a vast majority of MTs who are of extremely poor quality, there also are very high-quality, well-seasoned MTs like myself who are tired of making the same wages we made 10-15 years ago.  If there is such a discrepancy in our work quality and ethics, these corporations (who, by the way, are not slacking at all in their 6-figure income pockets!!!!) should pay MTs based on quality and experience, not just experience alone.

IS ANYONE OUT THERE BESIDES ME INTERESTED IN FORMING A NATIONAL MT UNION SO WE CAN GET BACK THE DIGNITY WE HAVE LOST?

I remain,

tired

sound quality

I'm totally with you!  I used a Lanier station for the first 15 years of my career and the sound quality was superb compared to the internet dictation.  One thing you might try, if you have not already, is to make sure your speakers have a tone dial.  Lots of these companies provide speakers that only have a volume dial or they want you to plug right in to the PC but there is no tone setting on the voice program.  Turning the tone to high helps un-muffle the sound.  Good luck!

Quanity/Quality
Yeh tell me about it!!! Produce more reports if you want more$$$ but don't make any mistakes or you don't get incentive. This way they get out of having to give raises or pay more money, putting the responsibility back on the MT. Its all our fault right? Its BS!
quantity vs quality
Hey y'all, it's a buyers market out there. There a tremedous demand for transcriptionists. Just move on. Things are going to continue to change quickly in transcription over the next few years. Everybody hates change, but try to embrace it for a while, it'll put you in the catbird seat.
quality vs wages
YOU'VE JUST VALIDATED MY INITIAL COMMENT....

THAT'S EXACTLY WHY WE NEED A UNION!!!!!
