I don't know, but my instructions are to follow the client profile. nm

no hyphen but Client Profile comes first...SM
Too lengthy to type here - but if you can get to a BOS (Book of Style) it covers hyphens from pages 207-211 in their entirety!!
Always follow client's directions
The BOS is a guide. Client preferences always override the BOS. The BOS is quite helpful in many ways, though, so don't ignore it completely.
Follow link to latest AAMT funny

and see what they are up to now.  I think Brenda H. is trying to get the doctors to talk more plainly so the off-shore accounts can understand them better.  HA - HA.

Be sure to look at very bottom of the article.  For more information please check out AAMT.........  What a bunch of garbage.  While the context of the article is true, it is the source of the article that is a fake ...... Good Grief.

One can certainly satisfy a client without the AAMT sm
MTSOs and services have been doing it for decades before and after AAMT.  I don't see hospitals conforming to one standard guideline for transcription.  It is NOT going to happen.   As far as working smarter, gosh darn it but that phrase is irritating. But I have to hand it to you, it's the standard AAMT answer and you have it down pat.   Pardon me if I am not impressed.
S-marked band Is this right???

S-marked band
Esmarch bandage
These are the marked up reports
that are sent in the fax, its not the same mistakes, its different mistakes for everyone. But the derogatory remarks from the hospital are on there too.

someone here has him on their profile
You can see it in their posts, but I can't remember who has it on there.
IC profile
Working as an independent contractor in this field or any other field for that matter, requires a certain set of attributes - namely, a good business head, being analytical, having boundless energy, professionalism, talent in your expertise, and total confidence. You also have to be able to roll with the punches. Mind you, having a good business head and being a good medical Transcriptionist may not necessary always go together. I have all too often observed excellent transcriptionists who were not good business people, but had one goal in mind - to have a business doing transcription, and they would fail and wonder why. Also, the personality profile of a medical transcripitonist may encompass an individual who will go to the ends of the earth to get things "right," who will persist even when working with others who will take advantage of them. Many of us are anal about details, and let's face it, this is tedious, fine-detailed work that requires consuming attention. The medical field is a hostile and negative environment today, and many transcriptionists feel they need to stay in that environment. JMO.
I have a profile

I am 34 and have a profile.  I'm not trashy or sleazy (for whoever said that in an earlier post).  I am female and have found a lot of people from high school and even a few from grade school on there.  I have my profile set to private also, only if you are my friend can you see my profile.  There is lots of crap out there on myspace, just as with any other website but I don't think it's all bad.  I don't use mine for evil lol  I use it to keep in touch.

I agree with the person who said it's okay for your kids to be online as long as you monitor.  I have an 11 y/o daughter and she is allowed online but there are rules and yes I do check up on her.  She doesn't have a myspace and won't be allowed to have one for a few years.  Luckily she's never asked, I don't think she's really discovered it yet.  I think these days constant monitoring of your kids' activities online is a must.

I am 26 and have a profile...
I'm not a phone person, but rather keep in touch with my friends that way. My mother-in-law is in her 50s and has a profile, as does her son who is another state away. I can post blogs and pictures to keep in touch with my friends and family. I love it and I am not trashy or creepy. I also have mine set to private though, so you can only see it if you are on my friend's list. I also use it to keep up with bands that are playing in my town that I like. It has many uses. I agree a lot of kids are on there and a little out of control, but that's not my problem. My kid won't be on there with her clothes off at 14! My little brother also has a site and has a Christian band he is networking on there. My step-mom monitors him though. There have been sexual predators on the internet a long time before myspace came around.

Dictaphone profile
I believe that this can be set in your user profile at your company. This is where they program backspace time, the work pools you are in, etc. If the system is not ancient, it should give you that feed if your profile is set for it.
I believe this something that is specific to your user profile, and ... SM
that is something your supervisor or manager would have to manually change within your profile.
A psychological profile? Eewwww. To me
that would be creepy and kind of invasive. If you don't hear back I have a feeling that is a good thing. It was nice of you to answer those questions, but come on, why get personal with the interview process, either you know transcription or you don't, and an objective test would be enough as far as I am concerned. Sounds yucky. Just IMHO.
I try to keep a low profile about $ and I am "always" going home to work sm
I have friend who has been with me a couple of times when my check has arrived in the mail. WOW he says, is that for ONLY TWO WEEKS? or that for the month? Ummm 2 weeks. OMG! Then, he says, but I know how hard you work. You are always working, more hours than I could possibly stand at a desk in the house. Truth is, I work about 5-6 hours a day, actual butt is in the chair, hands are moving time. I am not one to sit for more than a couple of hours without getting up (never last even that long) and I put in the 5-6 hours of actual typing time over about 10 hrs and I only do about 1600-1700 a day and I never push myself. (Just remember, I am lazy.)

I cultivate the perception that I am quite overworked, terribly underpaid (9.5 cents a line), very tired, always working, can't afford to wear anything other than tatty sweats and might not be able to afford that cup of coffee I am in the store to get. Most people think I work like a slave for about $2 an hour and I am starving and dying. They NEVER ask about being an MT!!!! LOL
Think it should be expected

I was a cryptologic linguist when I was in the Air Force. My job involved wearing headphones all day long. They tested our hearing before we started the career field and every year after because the wanted to monitor how much hearing we lost above and beyond the normal age-related stuff. Had an interesting talk with the audiologist about this. Wonder how many former MTs are getting disability for hearing loss?

But isn't that to be expected anyway?

summer because all we use gas for is to heat hot water and to cook on the stovetop.  As soon as we turn on the furnace, of course it is going to increase a lot, even in normal years when the price of gas is not as high.

Same with electricity.  It's a stable amount most of the time but once we turn on the air conditioner, it jumps dramatically.

Yep, we would be expected to
learn their language if we were doctors practicing over there. They should do the same here. Truth and racism are two different things :)
Sorry to hijack this thread, but is that Nick Nolte on your profile picture? sm

If so, he's looking kinda rough!  JMO, of course.

It is pretty much expected that you will do all that comes to you -
It is often the nature of the beast when you are in a pool. I had thousands of docs at the last place I worked, 4 hospitals all with very different account specifics, and did every work type under the sun for acute care. I found myself scrambling every day to get my lines in and frustrated beyond belief many days. After 2 years of that (and a few other issues with the company) I decided to move on.
What was the expected pay rate?
p
Actually, I never expected an answer--

I was sending him my opinion, expressing my anger concerning the jobs leaving in droves to India and other countries.

I can't imagine the number of letters he receives in one hour let alone one day.  So, I realize I would never be answered.

I just was stating my frustration and anger with a situation.

As I said in my other post, I did call and I talked to one of the phone bank people or whoever answers the phones at the White House.  She was very nice and talked with me a while.  She told me he does get briefed on his mail and phone calls, he wants the good and the bad, he wants to hear how things are directly affecting us individually.  So I let him have it.  I just wanted to add my name to the list of people calling concerning offshoring. She told me many people from IBM who were just laid-off were calling in droves about the offshoring.  So, maybe many voices might at least make some kind of noise. Even if he doesn't listen or doesn't care, it felt good to get the frustration out, knowing I was talking to the actual White House.

My son keeps watching out the window now for the FBI to take me away because I always call and write to Washington.

The handling of Katrina was a shameful disaster -- my heart goes out to anyone who went through that, and is still suffering because of it.  There was no excuse for that as far as I was concerned.

I did send many emails and called about that, too,  Again, just wanted to voice my opinion.

Wondering if VR not working as expected?

Our company has told us the company we use for VR wants to help us to edit faster, supposedly helping us to use the keys instead of the mouth. Now this seems sorta odd to me. I am wondering if the VR is not as satisfactory as was thought and perhaps the MTs are not really able to get reports out as fast as was thought and not eliminating the need for the MTs? Any thoughts on this?

We were $2.42 on Monday - shot up to $2.99 today and expected....sm
to go well over $3/gallon because of the pipeline distribution problem.  The governor has declared a state of emergency and is urging folks to not drive anymore than necessary while they're getting emergency shipments of fuel in.
Saw it. I expected Randall to be the person I though he was... He wasn't!! He is out for himself
Rebecca on the other hand was the classiest woman they have ever had on the Apprentice! By far she out spoke Randall and more importantly she said nothing negative truly about him. Agree, lost all respect for Randall. Though I seriously think Rebecca will be hired by somone probably today she has offers pouring in; seriously for her brain and her gorgeous looks are just a plus!! A Rebecca FAN!!
On the contrary, Christians ARE expected by God to judge sin. sm
There are numerous versus to back this up. There is a verse that says if we as Christians observe a fellow Christian falling into sin, we are to go to that person (in love, not condemnation) and try and guide them back onto the right path away from destruction. How are we to follow God's laws if we do not judge right and wrong? That verse has been taken so far out of context.

WHAT WE ARE NOT TO JUDGE is another person's relationship with God or whether that person has obtained salvation or is saved.

WE ARE EXPECTED TO JUDGE SIN. I'll be happy to dig up the verses for anyone who would like to see them.
We are expected to learn spanish, make

Here's the dealio... MTs are expected to be able to hit the ground running.
We work from home.  There is no training curve.  That's just the way it is in the MT industry.  If you want to work from home, you have to know what you're doing.  If it takes you longer than three days to get off full QA, then you belong in an office somewhere getting training from a mentor who has the time and money to train you.  Working from home is all about the bottom line -- the MTs and the MTSOs.  This is career field you've chosen, so get with the program.  Sharpen your skills and quit expecting someone to hold your hand.
BTDT. They expected a heck of a lot from the MT for that kind of pay
All the emails, all the demands, all the changes, ugh. For all they expect and demand, the pay is way too little, not to mention the fact that they need MTs who do SPECIALTY work (cardiology) and should pay the MT a higher cpl than they do currently for that reason alone.
About how many lines are expected to be typed each day, minimum, on average? NM

As an educated & experience MT, we're expected to correct what's
s
Never said that typos were acceptable, what I said was is 100% accuracy expected 100% of the time.

Yes, I used to work in a docs office doing this as well as other things and but never had this problem. That is why I am frustrated.  My question was whether or not there was a curve for MT'ing or not.  I guess I just was not clear on exactly what editors/QA were really meant for.  I thought they were more of a saftey net for a TX company to ensure that everythign that goes out is what it should be.  But I guess I was mistaken.

Anyway, I was thinking that maybe there was something else similar in this field that would be an option for me to do.  Since I actually like this line of work, I don't see why I should give up so easily.

Lastly, its just me, but I actually think staying at home with my kids is a perfect reason to do this for a living.  I mean seeing as though I actually do want to earn a honest living doing something that I have experience doing ...why not?  It's better than relying the government for money to support my family isn't it?

an overworked, underpaid, still expected to meet production go to person.

You're expected quota depends on whether you are paid hourly or per line. SM

I'm paid hourly and I was told the requirement was 50 or more reports per day.  I've never worked QA per line, but I'm sure their line quota is pretty high, at least 2000 or better per day, as you get credit for every line in every report you QA.

Hope this was the answer you were looking for.

I figured she was cheap when she acted interested until I told her what I expected to be paid.
All I could think of was "how cheap can you get" I mean I have 3 years on the very platform she needed help with but when I mentioned a decent rate I never heard a word back. Thanks goodness for small miracles.
Also they have to pay to set up new states
So they might not want to hire from states not set up in already.
Indeed it does, as the letter clearly states
it was a DEP error
It clearly states in the message that they
regarding the status of the job.
document where the IRS states this please? nm
nn
she states below that she did try in the past sm
to bring on another IC but they were resistant to the idea.

She has already tried doing what you suggest, to no avail.

I have been in this situation as well, and while it is very true that we are, in essence, vendors to our clients, there are offices that are truly difficult to work with.

It is a good idea to consider taking an employee position in this case, I agree, but please know that she's already tried addressing the issue in the way you suggest. :-)
Some *states*. YIKES!
.
Working in 2 different states. sm

I know a MQMT who does this.  I don't know the particulars, but she's literally on opposite ends of the map at different times.  It seems to me that there should be no problem doing this.  Of course, time zones, etc. may vary, but things like that should be easily resolved.

Have fun, whatever you decide!

I work for a hospital 6 states away. SM

I have a physician list and I have a website to look for other doctors. But how can they expect me to know how to spell patients' names? They can't. I have a disclaimer at the top of my log sheet that says common or phonetic spellings will be used where patient name spellings are not provided.

That was the thing that held me up when I worked "live" from home for a hospital. All that diddling around finding out whether it was "Kathy" or "Cathy"  -- I don't do that any longer and you're right, it makes a HUGE difference.

4 states are taking refugees
The governor of Louisiana has asked four states to take refugees:  Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, and Utah.  I know Utah is scheduled to take 1000, starting to be flown in today (call the governor's hotline at 866-873-2437 if you live in UT and want to help), but I don't know about the others.  I would imaging they're taking more since they're closer.  This is being coordinated through FEMA, but the governor's offices of those other states probably would be of more direct help.  If you don't live in one of those states you could try to contact FEMA, but I imagine they're swamped right now.
I agree with most of this, but in most states you can't lock him out. sm
I agree you should get away from him, especially if there are kids involved, but in most states you're not allowed to lock him out of the house. It's his residence, too, and the police and judges will tell you that he has just as much right to be there as you do. Please be sure to check with a lawyer or with the local police before trying to lock him out of the house.
the post clearly states "replace" so you
Within 5 years, I think most if not all hospitals will be on ASR, and our final destinations as MTs will be editors.  Until they decide they do not need these formatted reports altogether.
