Webipedia dictionary definition of flame is SM

In Reply to: Newbie to board - what is a flame? nm - CD

(n.) A searing e-mail or newsgroup message in which the writer attacks another participant in overly harsh, and often personal, terms. Flames are an unfortunate, but inevitable, element of unmoderated conferences.
(v.) To post a flame.

U R confusing official definition of professional with "popular" definition...sm

the official definition is those jobs like physicians, PA's, NP's, law, etc. Not something you do for a long time or what your job is. The popular definition for profession is what you do. Same thing with vocation, a official definition would hold to calling, such as clergy or nuns or missionaries... popular would say what's your job. So depends if you are looking for the popular definitions vs. the official definitions, though I will say some very ignorant people posting on the topic...

BNP abbrv definition

BNP WHAT IS THE DEFINITION FOR THIS ABBR

IRS created the new SE definition and

then felt it was being abused.  They then noticed how large the MT industry was and decided that would be where they would focus their efforts to decide whether to keep the status or do away with it.  In order to find out that information, they had to start doing audits if the "SE" box on your W2 was marked.  I hired a tax person to help me but his efforts were fruitless.  One day after faxing back and forth and writing back and forth, I got on the phone and held for almost 5 hours until I got someone in the department created for consumer complaint resolution.  I was amazed to find myself talking to someone who was intelligent!  They saw what the problem was, saw that all the documentation was in place and negated all activity by clicking a few keys on his computer.  I had owed about $2000 that year but had already paid it as it was a retroactive audit, so I was lucky with how things worked out.

I was just wondering if anyone else had problems.  I've chosen to never again have SE status so as not to have lightening strike again!

Maybe you should look up the definition of sarcasm. nm

Depends on your definition (sm),
doesn't it?
definition of acquaintance....sm

  1. Knowledge of a person acquired by a relationship less intimate than friendship.
  2. A relationship based on such knowledge: struck up an acquaintance with our new neighbor.

  3. Someone you know.

from dictionary.com

The IRS definition of an employee is this:
Who Is an Independent Contractor?

A general rule is that the EO, as the payer, has the right to control or direct only the result of the work done by an independent contractor, and not the means and methods of accomplishing the result.

I'd suggest you get a consultation with an attorney, and be sure to file your response with EDD.
See definition inside.

From Webster's online dictionary:

A written or oral defamatory statement or representation that conveys an unjustly unfavorable impression b (1): a statement or representation published without just cause and tending to expose another to public contempt (2): defamation of a person by written or representational means (3): the publication of blasphemous, treasonable, seditious, or obscene writings or pictures (4): the act, tort, or crime of publishing such a libel.

Based on the definition above...
I would come away from viewing that site with an unfavorable impression and unjustly so for the name of the company as well.

I think there's a good argument for libel there.
Here's the definition I found: sm
"A ball of swallowed foreign material (usually hair or food) that becomes trapped in the stomach or the intestines."

That's on Google, and that's the way context in which the dictating physicians used that term on the reports I typed for 22 years. :)
This is the definition I found, it's
grosser than yours, eeewww!
How can you mention this, just like that??? Out of the blue?

Do you suffer from 'vocal tics?'

(n.) A calculous concretion found in the intestines of certain ruminant animals (as the wild goat, the gazelle, and the Peruvian llama) formerly regarded as an unfailing antidote for poison, and a certain remedy for eruptive, pestilential, or putrid diseases. Hence: Any antidote or panacea.

You need to look up the definition of synechiae....sm
It does refer to the eye, but also refers to any adhesions in the body, lung, uterus, vulva etc.
Small national definition
Would you define what you would perceive as a "small" national, and then maybe I could better have an idea how to respond to you with some ideas.
Depends on the company's definition.
At MQ, a medical Editor is a Transcriptionist who uses ASR (automated speech recognition) to get her job done; she literally edits the speech recognition product.

The QA Specialist handles the QA blanks the MTs or MEs send.

Have you tried checking the IRS website for their definition?
If there's a standard anywhere, it should be based on that.
The definition of "US-Based"
Does NOT mean the company doesn't off-shore its work!!!! It might just mean they have offices in New York and LA where they answer the phones before shipping the work off to India or elsewhere.
MTs by definition are hired to transcribed - sm

what the doctor dictates.  We can't be expected to have to catch their mistakes - they're supposed to catch their own.  That's why they're being paid the big bucks and we're note.  Years back, we weren't expected to know all this stuff -- the meaning of every word we transcribed, the normal/abnormal lab values, what a particular drug is used for, and I could go on and on, and we were paid better, appreciated more & respected more.

I do agree that we must know how to spell medical words and words of English usage.  That's what they get for their 7-8-8.5 cents per line.  I do NOT believe that we should have to look up doctor's names, on our time, when the dictator has it right in front of him/her and would take him/her only 2-3 seconds to spell it, thus also avoiding any confusion.  But I guess that would be too easy.

I didn't always feel this way.  Years back, when I was treated as a professional and compensated accordingly, I performed as such.  If I want to flag a doc's mistake, I do it for the PATIENT'S sake (but for the grace of God it could be me or a loved one lying in that hospital bed) - and as a courtesy to the doctor.  But they really expect too much for too little.

My definition of hard work is totally different.

When I need a reality check on how good I got it with this at-home typing thing, I do my chores outside in the freezing cold or sweltering heat and realize that is about the only other thing I could do in this state for income, and I'd be lucky if I got minimum wage with no bennies out of it.

I guess you have to look at it from a different perspective every now and again.  I've heard of people who leave MTing at home because they miss the buzz of an office, and then the cranky patient's and office politics breaks them down and brings them back to doing their thing solo again.

For me, the pay isn't too awfully bad because I figure don't have to buy fancy clothes, I don't have to worry about a car, gas, packing/buying lunch, and putting on a happy face if I don't want to.

We all have bad days.  Those are days when you really need to take a deep breath or two and walk away for a bit.  They will get better.  If the bad days just keep on a'comin, well, then I suppose it would be time to look for a change, and there's nothing wrong with that either.

Depends on the definition you choose to accept
It can be "the particular occupation for which you are trained" or simply "a person's job or profession." I choose to think of mine as a career, also. I have not failed to increase my income each year, albeit by a relatively small amount, each year for the last seven. I think maybe the main difference between categorizing MT as a "career" or a "job" is one's contentment with where they are and what they are doing.

I googled this and found a definition of a wav. file.
WAV (or WAVE), short for Waveform audio format, is a Microsoft and IBM audio file format standard for storing an audio bitstream on PCs. ...  It is basically the format in which an audio file is saved.  There are all sorts of audio formats such as dss., wma., etc...Hope this helps!!

No flame from me.....
I agree.  Kids need to learn to seek out the proper people on  their own, with guidance  of course.  If the parents only allows controlled hand picked social contacts, how do you learn that skill?  People who homeschool for religious  reasons are the worst for this.  They only let their kids associated with like-minded people.  Unfortunately the world isn't like that.  I believe that the way to raise well-rounded children is to give them plenty of attention and supervision  at  home, train them about morals and make your expectations clear.  Then as they grow, they venture forth a little more as they get older, slowly separating from being under the  parental wing.  I think teenagers need a parent in the home almost more than little ones, and that is why I work at home.  A good education can be had  in almost any school.   It's there for the taking.  The real world doesn't cater to you, your  needs, your desires, or  your preferences.  A full-time job isn't finished in 3 hours (like the abbreviated day many homeschoolers boast about).   It's about being there on time, sticking to it even though you  may not feel like it, and  getting along with people  you may not care for, and avoiding those who are not good  for you.   Just my 2 cents.
Please do not take this as a flame, but
talking about 65-character count lines, and I believe hospital transcription. If I am not mistaken, you have said before that you count gross lines and clinic transcription, which is a whole different ball game. I too transcribe clinic dictation and count gross lines, and would much rather do this as it is much easier to produce and make money in this environment.
No flame taken
I have often tipped my hat to these guys, was just trying to put a little humor into things today.   I took one road and they took the other.  Have done the hosptital, teaching hospital and realize the complexity of it.  But I have worked hard to get my accounts and keep them also.
Flame
What does the really (looks like a yellow flame) mean by the postings?
A flame happens
after a post has been looked at a certain number of times. I has nothing to do with the types of responses you get to your post. It's all about the number.
No flame here...
You should file a complaint with Animal Control in your county, even if you already filed with the police. Animal control can give summons (tickets), and also can get you a court date. I forgot what kind of court it is, but it deals with animals and trashy yards (environmental). If your hands and wrists are sore, you should tell the judge you couldn't type as fast and you work on production.
You should get some sort of compensation. The leash law is in place for a reason (your attack for example), and it doesn't matter if the owner is right there on their own property with their dog. If the owner could not restrain his dog, then the leash law was broken. I know this because I live in the country and my beagle was doing his business in my yard by my garage and Animal Control happened to drive by and stopped (what luck!). The officer said that I must have my dog on a leash, even though there wasn't another house in sight, and the beagle was too old and lazy to run anywhere!

I really feel for you; this should not be allowed to happen! You could also have been bitten. You need to report it to Animal Control so it doesn't happen to someone else! Animal Control is serious about enforcing the leash law. Good Luck!
What is the FLAME?
What does it mean when there is a flame next to your post?
Flame
What does it mean when messages have a yellow flame at the beginning of a message?  At first I thought it was because there were so many added posts after the first post, but I posted a message yesterday that I got no answers to, and this morning there is a flame in front of my post.  Does anyone know what this means?  Thanks.
look up each definition..and it is drug-eluting stent. with hyphen.

Another definition of satanic is a behavior that is evil , which I think may have been the original
poster's intended meaning.
Only if that is coupled with a line definition of greater than 55 char.
.
the littel flame
okay, so I am new at all of this. what does the little "flame", blinking yellow signal mean.
Stone/flame me too
I believe the reason this was created is because all the newbies were whining that they cannot find jobs because you need experience and they couldn't get anyone to give them a break. This will be a false sense of an MTs ability if a company hires based on it. And just my opinion.
Off topic - please do not flame...
I will be moving to a smaller house (simplifying and paying off my mortgage in the process..yay!) and will need an Aerobed for guests. For those of you who own them, are they comfortable enough for an elderly person? I have seen some really high ones and see that you can now purchase a separate frame. Any thoughts? TIA.
hardy har-har... flame on!

The flame comes from the message
being viewed over 200 times. She did not put it there. duh.
No flame wars

I don't know what is wrong with you or some of the other people on this board.  I had the mistaken impression that we were all adults here and didn't engage in flame wars.

Moderator please note that this is what occurs every time someone doesn't like what someone says and in this case makes no sense.  They are simply trying to start a flame war.

As for you, I made no call.  I left it blank because the only thing my AS says is no patient names.  I asked my team leader a long time ago about family members names and he got the answer from the hospital.  I've never come across this before in the medical field but let me tell you something, in education you do not discuss your student with another teacher who is not part of their education or this breaks confidentiality policy.  Since HIPAA is not just policy but a law, I used the same logic that the knowledge that this other patient is in the psych ward is only the business of HIS physicians and not this woman's and that to include HIS name in HER medical record would be questionable at best.  So I did the responsible thing and left it blank with a question mark which is procedure for all of my accounts.

What on earth is a flame war?
Are you referring to the flame next to posts on here? That just means they've been viewed a certain number of times.
It's a flame.... as in hot post -

Geez. give the girl a break already. For definition of racist, sm
PER WIKIPEDIA: Racism is a belief system or doctrine which postulates a hierarchy among various human races or ethnic groups. It may be based on an assumption of inherent biological differences between different ethnic groups that purport to determine cultural or individual behaviour. ...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racist

I went back and read the OPs post about 3 times. Not once did she use the word hate and she said "most" not "all." We've all had bad days. I was cursing under my breath while working just today because one inconsiderate mumbling Primadonna ruined my entire morning. She just happened to be American.

Face it. There is a stereotype that many doctors have God complexes, are arrogant, demanding, and have to have their way. Doctors are inconsiderate. These are intelligent people that just don't give a rats. I'll prove it by saying that I've been a medical Transcriptionist for 18 years and no other "professional" has ever belched, eaten, cursed, or urinated while on the phone with me.

You don't have to be an MT to get frustrated over the language barrier either. I've owned my last Dell computer, not because I hate Indians, but because every single time I've had to call I wind up ending the call because there is a complete communication breakdown. I would expect that if I "chose" to live in another country, but this is my home. Americans are the ones having to learn a second language because so many foreigner just wont. Just look at how many job posting there are for bilingual receptionists and secretaries. It's just not like that anywhere else but here. If I "chose" to live in Japan, Hong Kong, the Czech Republic, etc. you'd better believe I would be the one to learn "their" language. Why should they accommodate me? I'm on their soil. Why should it be any different here? No where else on the globe is it like this.

Sorry if this is long and choppy. I got distracted.
It'll flame. I'm staying out of it.

If a post gets so many hits on it, it gets the flame.
Not sure what the magic number is though.
Newbie to board - what is a flame? nm
?
No flame here, either ~ had the same thing happen
I was walking my dog on his leash and went past a house where their dog was just wandering in the yard and he came out after us.  It turned out okay, but that was the last time I went that route.
Please don't flame me, I'm having an Alzheimer's moment, but what is the (sm)
basic 4.  I know it includes H&P, discharge summaries, and operations and procedures, but what is the 4th.  My brain is just not functioning today...it's my only day off and therefore I don't have to think right???  TIA
Flame you, why? Others love, you don’t, simple.
NM
What is (sm) and what is the little flame thing beside some of the posts?
I've been trying all day (in between reports and rants) and I just can't figure it out on my own and it's driving me nuts.
