Kohl's gift cards, and at Christmas I give - sm
tree ornaments (buy them at 60-70% off after Christmas at Kohl's, keep at least 15-20 on hand as last minute gifts too). This year we skipped the gifts as our school was blood sucking money out left and right the whole month of May (private school, no tax funding), so the teacher's got nadda this year, though I did contribute to the "class" give for Teacher Appreciate week which was the week of May 22 at our school. I have to buy for 4 teachers as each class as the main teacher and assistant, and I have 2 kids in the school. Gets to be a bit much, especially when I do $25 on a gift card for each of them. I think an ornament though can be given any time of the year, of course Christmas time is a bit more appropriate.
To Moderator re Christmas gift
I made a small donation to MTStars Santa's House for Christmas Angels on December 19th but never received any gift.  Would you let me know the status?  Thanks.
Dictator's Christmas Gift

Yesteday I had the best gift I have ever received from a dictator in 20+ years of transcription.  I have had them wish me Happy Holidays or Merry Chrstimas but this is one I will never forget.

The dictation begins, no sound, then  I hear 'The Barking Dogs doing Jingle Bells."  After it finished, the MD wished me a Merry Christmas.  The fact that he realized a person was on the other end and he wanted to put a smile on their face was a wonderful gesture.

BTW, I work for as an IC for a small company.  Couldn't get me to work for a national ever again.

Merry Chrstimas to all.

How many of you have given your company a christmas gift? (new pole)
Curious to see this answer.
Do you want a birthday gift too? Christmas is for giving, not receiving.
Christmas is for giving, not receiving.

What have you given your work place?
Do they give them MTs anything for Christmas?
Just wondering if anyone knew
You can always "Re-Gift" and give them to her next year

I don't think you should give a gift that makes someone feel little either...
I am sure if your husband left a $5 Walmart gift card on the table for your anniversary rather than a heartfelt card, handwritten note, or even the traditional nothing, you would feel offended, too.
What do you think your company will give you for Christmas: (Survey, I guess, LOL)

I give ours gift certificates to the local teacher supply store.
One year, we also gave a teacher a gift certificate to PetCo (for the class bird!).
Thanks, Medware, for this great gift!

And thanks especially to MTStars for all you do for MTs and making MT Week so much fun!

Does anyone have a great idea for a gift...sm
that a young bride can get her husband who is in the military overseas?  My neice and her husband are coming up on their first anniversary, they can't be together, and she wants to get him something nice, but has no idea what to get him.
Merry Christmas to you too! Great post!

Great company but like everyone else they over hire. Haven't had work since before Christmas *sm
because it is a slow time and I refuse to get up at 4:00 a.m. to beat someone else to it.  I am in the process of obtaining a second and third account and am going to start looking out for myself from now on.  I now understand why there is such a turnaround with MTs and companies - seems like the companies overhire and then the MT has to look elsewhere - they work at the new company for awhile until they find that they have now over hired and then they look elsewhere.   I have been with MDI for a few years and I plan to stay there but I am going to take on another job or even two so I do not sit idle when times are slow.
When you make the copay, make them give you a sm
receipt for the amount you pay them.  I know they don't like to do this because it takes time, but if you are really stern and insist on a receipt they have to give you one.  Then, the next time you get billed for something you already paid, tell them to look for their copy of the receipt and let THEM do the work.
Dont give them. He can make his own from the

They're great - give 'em a try!
Nicest company I've worked for in years - respectful, patient, plenty of work and they appreciate their employees. They're a breath of fresh air.
Yes, been there. I borrowed from my family members. Luckily, they had it to give me. Doing great

Well, ya can't make $50k a year unless you're willing to give up your life and be chained to S

you PC 12+ hours a day.  I can't recommend any particular school as I didn't go to one of the "online" schools.  I learned in an actual classroom which I recommend over any of these online schools.  Another thing I recommend is working in an office for at least six months, but more like a year, because there is a gigantic learning curve once you actually get a job.  There are just things that schools can't or don't teach, things that can only be learned on the job from other MTs who have been doing it longer than you.

Don't get me wrong.  It's great to be able to work from home.  Personally, I don't think newbies should be allowed to work at home right out of the gait.  There is some much they don't know.  They need help.  They need to be able to ask questions and one of the best things about working in the office as a newbie, is being able to ask the seasoned MT next to you to listen to something for you.

Having said all that, I think MT is slowly dying.  It's become difficult to make a decent living in this profession.  I'm one of the few lucky ones.  I work at-home for a hospital.  I get paid hourly, get incentive, and have all the benefits of being a FT employee.  Oh, and they can't take my benefits away if I don't make my quota.

You can't support a family on 7 or 8 cpl or even 9 cpl when the dictation is the crap they won't send to India.  I would suggest finding another profession.  The trend in medical coding is that all coders will be working from home soon what with everyone going to the Electronic Medical Record.  I would go into coding.  You may end up working in the office for a while, but I don't see coding being outsourced to India any time soon.

Good Luck.

Gift of gab is a gift in deed. Not having it has cost me dearly.
I became an MT because of my interest in medical field, fascination with the work and yes, a lack of social skills. I really did think that my work would speak for me.
A Christmas Story is my fave Christmas movie...forgot that one!

I just bought a pair of Able Planet (Lynx) NC Headphones I'll give you a great deal on! SM
I did a ton of research and found that many preferred these headphones over the Bose. They were actually more expensive. I paid over $300.00 for these! The only reason I purchased these was because I could charge them on my Dell account. They really are awesome. I can't even hear myself type when I turn on the NC feature. They are comfortable, but after 18 years as an MT, I've just gotten used to the stethoscope style or earbuds.

If you'd like to contact me, I'll give you an offer you can't refuse!
Skip Christmas Day and do drinks/snacks Christmas
Eve and spend a peaceful Christmas doing whatever it is you want to do.  If you're all of 47 years old you're evidently a slow learner  : )
Can't say I make a great living, but...
I support myself, my disabled husband, and also have 2 grown children at home, which the one pays his bills, but the other is having problems. We are buying our home, paying for our car, and still have enough to eat out a couple of times a week. I make more at home than if I go back out into the work place.
Excellent MTs make great QA.

You CAN make great money
... if you are good and have a decent line rate. I made just under $70k last year working at home in my 2nd full year as a transcriptionist.
I teach and I make 20.00 per hour. Not that great
but nothing to sneeze at either.  I teach community service classes (medical transcription, anatomy physiology and medical terminology) at a local college.
Hey guys! I just discovered a GREAT way to make $$$

Was just browsing a catalogue my son received from ThinkGeek and there is "Das Keyboard" which is a keyboard WITHOUT letters!!!  It is $80!!!  How many of us have a keyboard like this?

They have a whole bunch of cute stuff for the geek who has everything if anyone is interested.

That is great...I used to have to make coffee a specific way...
screw that...Now I may it the way I want it, in my jammies---lol
Sounds great! I may make that tomorrow night.

kettle corn is great, easy to make, and you can spice it up...
and there are pretzels, potato chips, veggie chips. you can quickly roast any kind of nut and spice or sweeten them up. I use sucranat for sugar, or turbanado, anything not bleached.

yummy fruit, fresh or frozen.

lots of things you can do...
Absolutely would. Love my job/career! Make great money. nm

Sorry, don't post here often and not familiar. I was saying I make great money and stay at home w
Where do folks get these odd ideas?
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, NC beaches and even mountains make great vacations.
and then everybody goes home to work in Charlotte or Raleigh. This beach I went to is only a 2-hour drive from Raleigh.

you don't put your family at risk by taking in strangers. That's just plain foolish. There were over 3300 registered sex offenders in NO. Where are they now. In your community? Perhaps in your house? Good luck.
oh our lovely government does give illegals medicaid, foodstamps, and housing so in term we give tha
i have been through some rough times lately and had to apply for some help. there are signs, big signs, all over our offices saying "YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE LEGAL TO GET HELP". so we and our government do give them our benefits whether they are legal here or not. now that is messed up. i am helping to support them so they can take away my jobs and i can't even support my kids and yes i get benefits, wow $75 a month in food stamps which lasts not even a week in a household of 6. don't get me wrong, i am thankful for any help at the moment, but i get penalized for trying to work my tail off and still can't survive.

there was recently an article in our local newspaper where one of our local school districts tried to charge $1000 a year for each illegal student enrolled. it was bulked and the illegals got a lawyer to sue for discrimination. the school district merely stated that they had to HIRE extra teachers that could speak the foreign language just to teach these children and were trying to offset some of the expenses. ridicilous!! so again our taxpayers money is paying to educate illegals as well.
Aw come one give her a break. She said she was sorry and is willing to refund. Give her a chance to

do what is right.  If she fails to do what is right, then go about this in an adult way and not act like such a child.  "you suck"  That is so immature.

She is responding to you and you are eating her alive.  Why would she put herself out there to be treated like this if she didnt mean it.

I am really astonished at how people can act on here.  Would you treat people like this in person?  If you do, I cant imagine you having very many friends.

Remember we are all "HUMAN."

A simple google search will give you your answer...I'd give you the answer,
but how would that help you learn to research on your own...and I'm in a rush to get to the next post.

gorgeous without seeming to know it.
Great post. I swear by both Advantage and Frontline Plus-- both work great! - sm
I don't know about "natural" approaches for the house. I have always used flea bombs in the past before the miracle of Advantage and Frontline changed my life. Have not had a flea problem at all since I began using those products about 10 years ago, dose all the dogs religiously once a month with the Frontline Plus except in Dec.-Feb. to save a few bucks and because the ground is generally frozen by then and no fleas are scurring about. -- Hope you get flea free soon.
I really don't know but the best gift I could get is what I have now and that is 2 of the most te
companies anyone could have to work for! Both companies are simply wonderful. It is very hard to find ONE company that is the best but to find TWO is too unreal and to me that is the best gift one could ask for. I feel so blessed when I read these boards and see all of the folks who are unhappy. Both companies I have are thoughtful and really care about their people. You really cannot ask for more than that. ;)
No x-mas gift

This will be my second Christmas with this company.  I did not receive anything last year so I don't expect to this year either.  Still, a good company to work for.

gift
I just sent a gift of food from Popcorn Factory. Will arrive the 19th. I appreciate who I work for. very much.
Gift for Mom
Go to Hometown Favorites.com - neat stuff!
MT gift
I received a very nice tote bag with the Transolutions' logo with a very nice card.  The bag has lots of pockets--love it!  Happy MT Week!
Did u get a gift?
I didn't. I guess technically we're not entitled to getting anything but it still would have been nice to get a card or something to show more appreciation for what we do. Just my thoughts. I think it depends on the size of the company.
gift
I scrapbook so of course I think in terms of pictures, momentos. How about a small scrabpook (4x6) filled with pics on great romantic paper. OH even has a scrapbook section. Check it out. Even if she doesn't scrap, you can buy kits that include everything you need and then put it together adding a few personal touches like journaling.
gift
When my husband returned from overseas I brought him a coffee cup filled with chocolate candies. The cup had an American flag on it. And a nice card. He really isn't going to be interested in the gift, so a token gift would be plenty. Enjoy your reunion!
Gift
I give my doctors cookie trays.  Somebody else suggested poinsettas.
