magicjack with Lanier or telephone line - sm

Posted By: Anon on 2008-08-14

The magicjack did not work with my Lanier, and my friend has dial-up and it would not work for her WITHOUT transcribing equipment, just regular calls. I sent mine back the same day.

Digital phone line with Lanier voicewriter
Now I am getting digital phone through my cable company with the addition of a data line which is suppose to give me unlimited access for dial up so I am hoping that will work. Does anyone else use a Lanier with Time Warner Cable digital phone and if so any problems?
Hi, Deeni! I did Lanier for several years and was always told that Lanier....sm
would only work with/accept/interface with other Lanier products, that everything was proprietary, but that was a few years ago and do not know if anything there has changed, wish I was of more help!  Have a good one!
magicJack
Got it on Monday, hooked it up, works great!  I will be sending back Vonage now. My state was in there but the number it gave me did not work well so I chose a state not as heavily populated and it is clear as a bell.  Definitely works well for me.
MagicJack

For anybody who has MagicJack, do you know if it is possible to use this in conjunction with another service such as Vonage?  There is no local area code available with MagicJack in my state, so for anybody calling me even in the same town, it would long distance for them.  I am just wondering if it is possible to have Vonage for incoming calls and then MagicJack for outgoing calls.  Thank you!

MagicJack

I don't know if mine was defective or not, but when I plugged it in and tried to use my phone, all I got was horrible static.  Two friends of mine in NY have no problem with it.  One also has Vonage.  I got Vonage when it was new, and that, too, was disastraous.

Now there's another thing called Peanutjack.com.  If anyone has feedback, I'd love to know.  We need all tne help we can get!

Thanks!

MagicJack
I've also heard that a lot of people with MagicJack had trouble with it and it just stop working.

magicJack - something that may help you decide - sm

I just purchased magicJack.  I like it so far.  One thing that I didn't know that I wish I had is that there is no local number available in my area code.  I had to choose one from a neighboring state.  Therefore, any incoming calls will be long distance for those calling me if they do not have an unlimited long distance plan.  The link below will let you find out what area codes are availble.  Many are pending and are supposed to be available very soon.  Other than this, I really like it.

MagicJack Question

Hello,

I just got MagicJack and have a DAC transcribe station.  Everytime you depress the foot pedal when listening to a dictation a "1" will appearing in the MagicJack window as if it is trying to input another number to dial.  The dictation eventually cuts out after enough numbers appear to dial a phone number.  Has anyone had this problem or might known the solution? My foot pedal is plugged into the transcribe station.  Can I use a USB foot pedal and link to the dictation through the MagicJack window on your computer screen?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Windstream/Bonage/MagicJack
In TX we have Windstream, which is okay (ATT for cell; again, not a problem at all here).

Anyone tried MagicJack? I did the Vonage thing a couple years ago and it wasn't a good exp. (it may well be now; not sure). Tried the MagicJack, but haven't been able to make it work. If anyone else has info on how they do with either of these, I'd love to know.

Thanks.
Any Magicjack users have any luck...sm
getting their foot pedal to work again?  Mine's still not working, and I was really  hoping it was a short-lived bleep in the system.
I use MagicJack & it works great. nm

ps on MagicJack Late reply!
Sorry I didn't get back to you, frankie_rush.  Too many emails!  Actually, it works well most of the time.  But I think it depends on a few things:  where you live, your phone co. (I have Windstream, which has been very good in all aspects).  To me, it was worth spending the $15 (or something like that).  I had Vonage a few years ago, and it was the pits!  At that time it was an on-going expense, the customer service was horrible (as I recall in India!), and I got stuck for a 2-year contract for crap!  I'm in Texas.  A friend of mine in NY has excellent service, so I still still say that the $15 to OWN it is worth the shot.

They sell them at kiosks at the mall here.

Incidentally, I don't have Lanier, but when I worked in the hospital we had their system, and also had excellent service.  I also liked Medi-Tech, for what it's worth.

Did you make a decision?

Good luck

Telephone Number ...sm
The number you gave below for Detective Joe Rodriquez is not working...sounds like a fax line...please advise? TIA
Telephone ringing

I had a telephone conversation come through once -
It may have been a walkie - I am pretty sure I saw the guy drive down the street in front of me talking on something - it was very brief, I think probably when he was in very direct range.  It was wierd!
Telephone solicitors from out of US?

This person who just called had an extremely thick accent and could not understand me, I had to repeat everything at least twice.  This person gave the name of "John Green". I asked if they were calling from the United States and he said "yes".  The phone number showed an area code in New York, does this assure he is calling from there or can they call from heaven-knows-where through another company's number?

Found a way to stop Dell from calling us hourly for awhile anyway.

We have it set up to be able to view our account online with Dell.

I hate Dell.  They have the worst customer service. They start calling 3-4 days BEFORE the payment is due and continue to call us every hour on the hour wanting us to pay check by phone.  NOT on your LIFE!

Last night, we went online and changed our telephone information on our account.  Instead of our phone number, they now have THEIR phone number.  Let them call themselves.  Wonder how long it will take them to figure that one out.

Magicjack works like Vonage and cable (sm)
the only cost is $39.99 (device, first time only) for the entire year, no monthly fee.  Second year is $19.99 for the entire year.  Voice mail, call forwarding, etc.  It's a real steal.  So far, my sound clarity is very good.  I'm on my 30-day guaranteed trial now, so I'm still in the testing phase, but I do not use a C-phone.
Telephone dictation for your clients

Anyone interested in offering toll free dial in dictation to their clients? I found a small company that is offering this service for $45/mo. It seems very reliable and they deliver my dictation files via FTP as a .wav file.

If interested reply back and I'll send you their contact info.

Non-compliance of telephone lines
Has anyone had any difficulty with the new SBC/AT&T?  I have been told I do not have many options other than a per minute plan.  I have seen a program called CallVantage.  Does anyone have any information on this plan?
I live in SC and have Verizon for telephone
and internet.  We could get Time Warner Cable also but chose Verizon instead.  We have a home phone which is Verizon also.  We do not have a long distance carrier such as AT&T since we use cell phones for long distance.
Telephone Record Adaptor
You might want to look into getting a telephone record adaptor that plugs into your laptop sound card.  Also would require audio capture software but then the files would be recorded onto your computer and from there you could transcribe them.
It looks similar to a telephone. You use it to dial

directly into the hospital system (usually, can also dial into MTSO system).  You have a foot pedal that controls the dictation.  You complete a report, sign it off and then get another one.  Unless you have an 800 # to dial into, you will need unlimited long distance and most companies that say they offer ULD have a 5000 minute limit, which may not cover you.

You can Google C-phone and find a picture and get more info.

Broadband/Internet Telephone Service
Does anyone use a broadband/internet telephone service for transcription, such as Vonage, Covad, Lingo, SpeakEasy? I have a local long distance account and am looking into this type of service for a monthly flat fee for unlimited minute usage. Otherwise, the long distance fees would eat me alive. Any info on any company, good or bad, would help me tremendously in making my decision. I am researching several via the internet, but once again, any info would help.

Have a save and sane 4th of July!

downloading dictation versus telephone
ive been transcribing 220-250 lines per hour using the following:  I dial into the telephone system using a Dictaphone to access the dictations and use Persona Client and Telnet software. It is all just straight typing, the dictation is waiting for me as I don't have to download nething.  I get paid by minutes dictated.  For example, if I transcribe 1 hour of dictation it would equal 600 lines.  600 lines at 8 cpl = 48.00.  I'm lookin elsewhere for employment, and I'm worried about the downloading of dictations (which seems most are doing now-a-days) slowing my daily production down.  Does anyone seem to be more/less productive as far as using a telephone to access dictations as opposed to downloading.  Also, is there a big difference between getting paid per 65 character line or by minutes dictated.  TY
Need Company that Turns Telephone Dictation into WAV/DSS Files

Hello,

Can anyone recommend a good company that will take my client's telephone dictation and convert them into WAV or DSS files that I can then access and transcribe?. A company that has good pricing and is reliable.  I probably won't have a huge volume to start.  Thank you.

Dave

Hi, just lately I spoke with a couple of companies who said they re-imbursed for telephone charges..
or supplied "calling cards" for specific accounts -- myself, I am glad to be away from C-phones, I did not have a great fondness for them! Have a good one!
deduct telephone, electric and portion of house payments.
Hope this helps!
A gross line is anything on a line is a line. A line set at 65 characters means it sm
has 1-inch margins on each side. The maximum number of characters on that line would be 65 and that includes spaces. If there is 1 character on that line it is a line.

A standard 65-character line usually consists of 65 characters with spaces unless, of course, the employer does not pay for spaces and then it would be 65-characters without spaces.
Anything on the line makes up a line even if just one letter or number. Every line of print is a
s
Gross line = each line on page counts as a line, even if it's only 1 word. nm
x
Gross line means anything on a line is counted as a line.

You can get an idea in the difference using documents you have already created, assuming you're working in Word. Simply open a document and check the properties. Click on the statistics tab and you will see the number of lines as well as characters with and without spaces. If you're currently getting paid by the line and a line is 65-characters with spaces, do the math and see how that number of lines compares with the number of lines in your stats.

One thing to keep in mind: if you have a blank line between paragraphs, instead of hitting the enter key twice, format your document to give the appearance of blank lines between paragraphs.

Lanier
Yes Transcend uses the voice writer on certain accounts.  Just started using it.
Lanier VXP??
Anybody use Lanier VPX? I can't get my wav pedal to play these files. Any suggestions?
Lanier VXP
These can only be played with a Lanier footpedal.  They have a proprietorial header on the voice file and cannot be opened without the appropriate footpedal.
I have a lanier - sm
I would like to know more too.  Thanks.

I know this may be redundant, but try unplugging everything and then start over. I have had this happen and it corrected it. Good luck!

If you use a calling card to dial into the hospital system using a Lanier, do your phone card minutes start to decrease immediately or only when you have the foot pedal down and are listening to the dictation? I hope this question makes sense? Tx
