Trying to sneak it all through.....

This was sent to me yesterday by those who have contacts on capitol hill.....this is what is being pushed through quietly without your knowledge unless you bother to pick up the phone or fax your congressional leaders for your state or ANY state for that matter.....I realize this will only matter to those loyal to this country......

"Whatever the Rules Committee does, there is likely to be some kind of vote on whether to allow governments and businesses getting the trillion dollars of stimulus money to hire illegal aliens.

There may be a point of order on the floor to strip the requirement to use E-Verify to keep illegals out of the jobs. There may be an amendment to do that. Or if the Rules already stripped E-Verify, there may be an amendment to put E-Verify back in.

Your job is to let your own Representative know that his/her constituents expect this bill to explicitly require E-Verify to make sure all new jobs go to Americans and legal immigrants already here.

You all did an incredible job this morning. At the beginning, we were hearing that phone calls were running 50/50 on whether to allow stimulus money to be used to hire illegal aliens. Now, it sounds like the Rules Committee was absolutely overwhelmed by anti-illegal phone calls.

You must make this happen in your own Representative's office immediately. We don't know when the vote may occur. It could be tomorrow. It could be this afternoon. Time is of the essence."

Now, I can't help but wonder how many liberals on this post really care anything about this country or their jobs!

No, all voter registration were not and still have not
nm
It is a "draft" registration.......
What do you think the purpose of a draft registration is for? To draft people for heaven sakes!!
So the voter registration people are crooks and the ....sm
affordable housing people are also crooks? Is there any documetation for this? Somehow this doesn't not logically compute in my mind. Detroit, Chicago, Missouri. I would like to see more documentation.
OK, when a voter registration person registers people who...sm
are dead or nonexistent what happens on election day.  Do the ghosts of these people show up to vote?  It seems to me that the only people benefiting from fradulent registration are those that have been paid to register voters and who where paid by the hour and required to register a certain amout of voters.  And what about verifying with driver's licenses and social security numbers?
draft
Yes, there will be a draft, its inevitable, and that urks me to the core.  I have a friend who went to Canada to avoid Vietnam and he is still there as a teacher..and believe me, if anyone wants my help in the coming draft, they got it. Using 9/11 as an excuse for this war bugs the crap out of me..I grew up in NYC, the WTC and all of Manhattan and Brooklyn were my stomping grounds..Relatives on my mother's side of the family still live there.  I moved to CA with my then husband 20 years ago (going back to NYC hopefully within a year or two) and when 9/11 happened, it tore my heart apart.  I wanted so to be there, to put my hands in the dirt of the WTC, to help in any way I could..My cousin who lives in Brooklyn could see the smoke when she looked out over the water, my friends in Wesley Hills and Nyack, NY had debris on their lawns..To use 9/11 for political gain makes me want to vomit..My cousins daughter worked at the WTC for a Japanese bank, she was on floor 42 when 9/11 happened..She got out okay and now works in New Jersey for the same bank..9/11 is sacred and should never be used for political gain..It just shows the character of these creeps..MQ had a worker that was flying back from Massachusetts..She was scheduled for a later flight but the airline told her and her daughter there was an earlier flight.  The mother, the MQ worker, decided to take the earlier flight, the daughter remained at the airport.  That earlier flight turned out to be the first flight to hit the WTC.
I have not seen a draft yet.
Everyone that is in Iraq joined the military of his/her own free will. Many, after the war started.
Is this what it has come to, a bunch of draft dodging, sm
stay-at-home politicians calling decorated war veterans cowards. They have their nerve.

I have been out of the loop lately with politics, but this tops all.
Draft System To Be Tested...sm
Military Draft System to be Tested
Body: Associated Press | December 22, 2006

WASHINGTON - The Selective Service System is planning a comprehensive test of the military draft machinery, which hasn't been run since 1998.

The agency is not gearing up for a draft, an agency official said Thursday. The test itself would not likely occur until 2009.

Meanwhile, the secretary for Veterans Affairs said that society would benefit if the U.S. were to bring back the draft and that it shouldn't have any loopholes for anyone who is called to serve. VA Secretary Jim Nicholson later issued a statement saying he does not support reinstituting a draft.

The Selective Service readiness exercise would test the system that randomly chooses draftees by birth date and the network of appeals boards that decide how to deal with conscientious objectors and others who want to delay reporting for duty, said Scott Campbell, Selective Service director for operations and chief information officer.

We're kind of like a fire extinguisher. We sit on a shelf until needed, Campbell said. Everyone fears our machine for some reason. Our machine, unless the president and Congress get together and say, 'Turn the machine on' ... we're still on the shelf.

The administration has for years forcefully opposed bringing back the draft, and the White House said Thursday that its position had not changed.

A day earlier, President Bush said he is considering sending more troops to Iraq and has asked Defense Secretary Robert Gates to look into adding more troops to the nearly 1.4 million uniformed personnel on active duty.

According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, increasing the Army by 40,000 troops would cost as much as $2.6 billion the first year and $4 billion after that. Service officials have said the Army wants to increase its force by 20,000 to 30,000 soldiers and the Marine Corps would like 5,000 more troops.

The unpopular war in Iraq, where more than 2,950 American troops have already died, complicates the task of finding more recruits and retaining current troops - to meet its recruitment goals in recent years, the Army has accepted recruits with lower aptitude test scores.

In remarks to reporters in New York, Nicholson recalled his own experience as a company commander in an infantry unit that brought together soldiers of different backgrounds and education levels. He said the draft does bring people from all quarters of our society together in the common purpose of serving.

Rep. Charles Rangel, a New York Democrat who has said minorities and the poor share an unfair burden of the war, plans to introduce a bill next year to reinstate the draft.

House Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi has said that reinstating the draft would not be high on the Democratic-led Congress' priority list, and the White House said Thursday that no draft proposal is being considered.

Planning for the Selective Service exercise, called the Area Office Mobilization Prototype Exercise, is slated to begin in June or July of next year for a 2009 test. Campbell said budget cuts could force the agency to cancel the test, which he said should take place every three years but hasn't because of funding constraints.

Hearst Newspapers first reported the planned test for a story sent to its subscribers for weekend use.

The military drafted people during the Civil War and both world wars and between 1948 and 1973. An agency independent of the Defense Department, the Selective Service System was reincorporated in 1980 to maintain a registry of 18-year-old men, but call-ups have not occurred since the Vietnam War.

What do you think?
Then I expect you to be the first in line for the draft.
Everyone has the right to protect themselves, their beliefs, religion, and country, but it seems that yours takes precedence over everybody elses and you can't seem to bring yourself to that level of understanding.

I don't have a stomach to being lied to and I especially don't stomach flippant remarks about my beliefs, as I have a right to protect them. Hatred is formulated. It has been formulating for years. Love turns to hate. Jealousy turns to hate. Intolerance turns to hate. Just give the right stir, formula 101.

2006 NIE report findings stated the the occupation of Iraq is creating more Islamic radicalism.

"An opening section of the report, “Indicators of the Spread of the Global Jihadist Movement,” cites the Iraq war as a reason for the diffusion of jihad ideology. The report “says that the Iraq war has made the overall terrorism problem worse,” said one American intelligence official."

Who's wearing the blind fold? Two hates to do make peace or tolerance.

I do know what the original SS draft looked like....
A great great uncle of mine was a friend of Roosevelt and was a long-time military man. He finally retired and went back to the midwest when Roosevelt called him and asked him to please come back to Washington to draft a plan for SS.

We are fortunate to have this to see and I can guarantee you it had nothing to do with freeloaders and moochers but was to look out for the older crowd. Yes, they were taking into account the average lifespan of a man and then their windows, so she could have money to help feed their children if he died early. This was in part because of the stock market crash where so many lost their life's savings. It was never never meant to be what it has turned into. Wealthy older Americans were not to have this money JUST because they hit a certain age. If they had money, they were not to draw SS, only those with extreme need.

Unfortunately, over the decades government has turned SS into anything but its intended use.
He is registered - but we do not have a draft so it does not matter -
They no longer draft people. To be honest, I think they should though. The military is made up of poor people who feel that is their only option. I bet if we got some of those rich boys in the army putting their butts on the line, then a lot of decisions that are made at this point would be made differently!!!
but we do not have a draft anymore, so it does not matter!
On Jan. 27, 1973, Secretary of Defense Melvin R. Laird announced the creation of an all-volunteer armed forces, negating the need for the military draft.

I just read the draft of the bill on line...
the lenders are getting the bailout all right, but there are provisions in the bill about letting people in foreclosure get "modifications" so they can keep their houses. We are essentially buying the bad mortgages from the lenders, we the taxpayers. And then those folks who got those mortgages they really didn't qualify for and could not afford to begin with...can try to pay it back, which in and of itself is not a bad thing...however, the rub is the "modifications." I don't disagree with modifying the interest rate to the average others are paying...but there is a thing there that says "reduction of loan principal" as one of the options. I think that is going too far. I think they should have to pay back every dime they borrowed no matter how long it takes...becaue of they don't, WE have to. Sigh.
Draft Dodger Cheney attacks War Hero
The words President Murtha are sounding pretty good!

DERRICK Z. JACKSON

White House plays chicken with a war hero

THE WHITE House is so deluded, it actually believes it can turn a soaring hawk into a scrounging chicken. Stung by the call by US Representative John Murtha of Pennsylvania to pull out of Iraq, Scott McClellan, President Bush's press secretary, said this week, ''It is baffling that he is endorsing the policy positions of Michael Moore and the extreme liberal wing of the Democratic Party.

Talk about playing the chicken-hawk card. A White House where most of the architects of war avoided combat in their own lives dared to associate two people who are worlds apart in world views. Moore made the anti-Bush ''Fahrenheit 9/11, which infuriated the right wing by breaking box office records for a documentary film. Moore was booed at the 2004 Republican National Convention.

Murtha is the 73-year-old recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for combat duty in Vietnam. He is a Democrat whose three decades in office are marked by support of President Reagan's policies in Nicaragua and El Salvador. Murtha was a top Democratic supporter of the 1991 Gulf War. He wants a constitutional ban on burning the American flag.

In a 2002 press briefing, former Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz termed the support of politicians like Murtha for the Pentagon as ''wonderful. In the 2004 vice presidential debate, incumbent Dick Cheney said, ''One of my strongest allies in Congress when I was secretary of defense was Jack Murtha.

For all those shows of patriotism, Murtha was skeptical about the rush to invade Iraq in 2003 of Iraq even though he voted to give President Bush the authorization to go to war. He publicly said Bush beat the war drums before building an international coalition. Murtha said he had not seen anything in intelligence reports that indicated an imminent threat. Murtha said Bush ''has put the country in such a box. He can say, 'You'll undercut me if you don't vote for this resolution.'

One month after the invasion, when no weapons of mass destruction had yet been found, Murtha warned that American credibility was at risk. By the September, the absence of weapons of mass destruction made him join the much more liberal House minority leader, Nancy Pelosi, in calling for Bush to fire the planners of the invasion. Despite the proclamation that ''we achieved a marvelous military victory, Murtha became increasingly frustrated with the chaos of the occupation. This summer, Murtha said administration officials were ''not honest in their assessment that they were winning the ongoing battle.

Finally, this week, Murtha unleased a scathing attack on Bush's Iraq policy. He called it ''a flawed policy wrapped in illusion. He said he believed military officials when he visited Kuwait just before the war and they showed him where American forces would be attacked by weapons of mass destruction when they approach Baghdad. But now, with no end to the killing in sight, he said, ''The US cannot accomplish anything further in Iraq militarily. It's time to bring the troops home. . .They have become the enemy.

Murtha talked about soldier after soldier he has visited in hospitals, wounded and maimed by the invasion. Yet, there's more terrorism now than there ever was and it's because of what? Is it because of our policy? I would say it's a big part.

In perhaps the most humble admission of his press conference, Murtha said, ''The American public is way ahead of the members of Congress.

This came the day after Cheney threw mud in the direction of critics who gave Bush his war authorization. Cheney accused them of making ''irresponsible comments. He accused them issuing ''cynical and pernicious falsehoods to make ''a play for political advantage.

He said, ''The President and I cannot prevent certain politicians from losing their memory -- or their backbone.

This was the same Cheney who gave us some of the greatest falsehoods of this generation with ''There is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction . . . We believe he has, in fact, reconstituted nuclear weapons, and that we would be ''welcomed as liberators.

Murtha clobbered Cheney's words the next day, saying, ''I like guys who got five deferments and never been there and send people to war and then don't like to hear suggestions about what needs to be done.

This hawk still soars, above the scrounging chicken hawks.

McCain should draft Tammy to cover all his bases.
nm
Obama has already said he is in favor of draft - see link inside
http://www.wsws.org/articles/2008/sep2008/obam-s13_prn.shtml

If you had seen the actual
video tape of him saying that.....he was obviously joking.  He himself said that he was sure that joke would be taken out of context.......and he was right.
also, courts ruled the draft was not forced servitude in Butler v. Perry. nm
x
Actually....this is the actual poll...
While Republicans and Democrats predictably favor their party’s candidate by overwhelming margins, the experience gap among voters unaffiliated with either party is even narrower than the national totals. Forty-two percent (42%) say Obama has better experience to be president, but 37% say Palin does.

These are unaffiliated voters....37% of which say she has more experience to be President. That is just a 5% difference...not 61%.

Ahem.
It is not so much the actual hunting that I
am truly opposed of, it is the tactics used. If you are going to hunt them, then truly hunt them. Don't sit in a plane in the dead of winter and shoot at a defenseless animal like that. Get out of your friggin' plane, get on the ground and hunt. I come from a very long line of hunters and none of them would ever consider that truly hunting.

I am vegan, so I yes I am against the slaughter of animals. But, I do realize that sometimes it is necessary in certain circumstances to thin out a herd so they don't suffer in extremely harsh conditions.

I also realize that people hunt so they have food, that there are still people who get their primary meat this way and cannot afford to buy it in a store. I have had many different kinds of animal flesh before I quit eating it, and I do not pass judgment to those who hunt for food. I do oppose using the term "hunt" for the mass slaughter of animals. If you are truly against cruelty, like you say you are, then you would realize that aerial hunting of these wolves is cruel. Did you watch that video and see how the wolf is suffering? That is cruelty defined.
There probably isn't an actual video.........sm
since this was an interview given to a newspaper and not a television station. I'm sure it was only audio taped, hence the picture where the video would be. Why do believe that it is not his voice or that he is not actually saying what we all hear he is saying?
Thank you! There are so many actual important
issues to be discussing rather than wasting time on their silly fairy tale while the economy crumbles.
Yes, Joe was an actual plumber...

...living in Ohio, throwing a football with his son in the front yard when the whole Obamarama came down his street and Obama invited Joe to ask a question.  Joe asked:  If you are elected, are you going to raise my taxes?   Obama answered:  It's good to spread the wealth around and give everyone the advantages you've had.

Joe was obviously planted in his own front yard just to sandbag Obama with a trick question and entrap him into revealing the true agenda.  Republicans are so devious!

What happened after this was extremely interesting.  Media started to investigate Joe as though he were a candidate, not just Joe Citizen.

They unearthed and published the information that he was not even a licensed plumber.  (In fact, no license was legally required because he was an employee,  although he was working toward buying the plumbing business.)  His trash was stolen from in front of his house - a standard investigative technique. Joe's driving record was accessed - illegally - and details made public.   I think I even remember hearing he owed some money to the IRS.

His OJFS records were accessed several times (Ohio Job and Family Services are the ones who administer unemployment, child support, etc.) and, mysteriously, information about his divorce and child support ended up in the news.  The (dem) head of OJFS then tried to cover by saying this is common practice anytime a person becomes a celebrity.  However, this was easily disproved.  (The woman was allowed to resign.  She and two assistants are the ones being sued.)

All for having the poor judgment to ask a question of Obama, when invited to.  A lot has been said over the yeas about Nixon and his enemies list,  but our new president is someone not to be crossed, not by a Joe Citizen, certainly not by a Limbaugh.

Get 'em, Joe!

Those of us with actual brains, & can think for ourselves,
to make our decisions for us, tell us what to think or how to be, tell us whom to judge, or how to vote. From back in the days of the Crusades, religion has always been about a few men controlling other people. And they learned a long time ago that those who are most easily controlled are those with feeble minds and no free will.

I went to the actual Il. gov. website and read the - sm
actual bill, not just the parts that this sweetness-light.com website put on there. The whole bill starts out saying that parents first have to sign a consent form in order for their children to participate. As you are reading through the bill it states, "All course material and instruction shall be age and developmentally appropriate."

Sam, do you honestly think he is supporting teaching the same sex ed that you might get in high school to Kindergartners. I mean really.

You are always mentioning these leftist sites like Huffington, well this is clearly an all conservative site. I didn't go through it all, but it doesn't seem to be very objective.
my actual reason is more selfish than this...
I want to keep as much of my paycheck as I can to pay for the carpal tunnel release that I will eventually need!
Read The Actual Bill

If you're so concerned, one would think you'd actually read the bill as written, rather than rely on someone else with a clear agenda to do your interpreting for you.

Gimme a break.
What actual credible plot was NOT

UNFORTUNATELY, I TAKE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY and i pay my mortgage, even if i was one of the ones that they should not have given a loan to. and i have an ARM, and an interest only loan, which i pay more to each month, etc. etc.... BUT if i was in default, maybe i'd get some help...

and you cannot deny that Clinton put this into action
and that McCain or Bush did not foresee it and ask for an overhaul.
no matter who is at fault WHO IS THE ONE THAT TRIED TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT LONG BEFORE THIS MESS???
I did - and I'm the one who provided the actual quote
Look. Just get this straight. If you know anything about Boehner at all, you will know perfectly well that he does not support the notion that cold rooms, sleep deprivation and caterpillars add up to torture.

Intellectual honesty is a wonderful thing. Waiting to "pounce" on any fortuitous language that suits your purpose when you know very well that's what you're doing is NOT intellectual honesty and speaks ill of the character of those who practice this form of charade. I certainly don't respect you for it, although I do respect honesty in political discourse. I wish it weren't so rare.
Pastime is an actual noun.
It means a way to pass the time (not something that happened in a past time.)  The hyphen (that little horizontal line [-] thing) is wrong.  No need for thanks, always glad to help an ESL Transcriptionist sharpen her skills.
Actual entry in Reagan's diary
Beneath is an actual quote that Reagan wrote about George "W" in his
diaries, recently edited by author Doug Brinkley and published by Harper
Collins

"A moment I've been dreading. George brought his n'er-do-well son around
this morning and asked me to find the kid a job. Not the political one
who lives in Florida; the one who hangs around here all the time looking
shiftless. This so-called kid is already almost 40 and has never had a
real job. Maybe I'll call Kinsley over at The New Republic and see if they'll
hire him as a contributing Editor or something. That looks like easy
work."

From the REAGAN DIARIES------entry dated May 17, 1986.

If you watched the actual show you might have understood it
Glenn Beck actually cares about what is going on in this country. He is giving the everyday American a chance to let our voices be heard.

If you go to his website (which I'm sure you wouldn't do) he talks about "Project 9.12". He talks about the 9 principles and 12 values. He's allowing people like you and me a chance to let our voices be heard. The country is going down a dark hole and if it doesn't get fixed we will never see the light again (AIG is just one of the many things that will bring it down).

Unlike whiny Olberlame or Mathpukes. Those two make my skin crawl. I can take Rachel Maddow to a certain extent but then she gets on her whiny role too. Your viewpoint of any other news station other than My Socialist News Butt Channel (MSNBC) is so pathetic in it's writing. If your going to go down the road of blatant money-grubbing, media hogs who pray on the pathetic then you are talking about the liberal media stations. Talk about praying on the pathetic ignor@nt. You want to see hate-spewing turn on the MSNBC crowd. When things don't go their way it's like watching a bunch of rabid dogs foaming at the mouth attaching anyone who doesn't agree with them.

Maybe it would be good to actually watch the Beck show before commenting on it because then you would at least might remotely possibly know what your talking about. Otherwise it looks like another agent of MSNBC is filtering on this board.

I guess you think that having people who are liberal on as guests and treating them with respect, letting them speak what's on their mind and saying. "Okay, I'll give you that. I may not agree with you, but your entitled to your opinions" I guess you consider that hateful spewing??? I don't get it. You go to MSNBC (watched that station through the Bush years because my viewpoints were more aligned with theirs), but after awhile you just gotta step back and say wait a minute, that's not fair no matter whether I don't like the other side or not. There is a time when you have to start thinking for yourself. Fox channel does that. They present issues and don't tell you how you should be thinking. They let you decide for yourself. They give both sides an equal chance. But if your one of those liberal loving all democrats do nothing wrong and all republicans do nothing right, and you only get your news from the liberal stations, then yes, what you wrote is true about the "pathetic uneducated half-wits that hang on every word of their hateful spewing garbage" by Mathpukes and Olberlame and the likes of that station.

In case you don't know, America is waking up and turning to Fox and turning off MSNBC, CNN and others because we want to hear the truth. Not the mean-spiritic spew that comes from those stations.

BTW - Fox has 1,217,000 viewers compared to the socialist MSNBC station of 480,000 and Communist News Network of 633,000. That's more than twice as many people. At least I feel like I'm in good company.

Well, it certainly gives me more pause than abstinence and sex education.
Whatever. How about addressing the actual issues I raised in my post for a change? (NT)

/

I don't think any sane person would say wishing Bush would die and burn in hell is an actual death

...particulary in the context of a heated political forum.

I think people are needing to create some drama to justify their actions.

The point is that both sides are naughty at times.  I do notice more personal attacks by the C's though and I looked at the posts pretty carefully.  The L's seem to rely on political/lifestyle issues to upset the C's and the C's just seem to respond with barking orders and making personal attacks (liberals are sissies, etc.)

The difference is that only the L's seem to be deleted and chastised on a regular basis.  Isn't this rather unfair and un-American.  It's called a double-standard and is not a pretty sight (and makes this not a pretty site)!!!!

Please describe the actual physical threat that you allege was made on this internet chat board.

Thank you.

But valuing over the price of a dollar is a right thing wing thing, so you are on the wrong board. n
x
I never said it's a bad thing, it is a good thing....nm
nm
one other thing though....

Agree with everything you stated, but I am profoundly disgusted also with Rove being able to expose a CIA agent, and nothing is going to be done about it in that I feel he committed treason, as Reagan did with Iran-Contra... Treasonous acts that are let to slide...no big deal huh?  Who knows if someone is getting hurt because of his mouth, and yet, nothing...  The silence is very annoying...as our country drops into a stinking sea of muck.

One more thing, gt. sm
Of all the people on these boards, YOUR opinion of me is the one I value the least.
Oh, and one more thing, gt. sm
Clnton signed Kyoto in 1997, only because he knew that the Senate would not ratify it.  He was right.  They voted 95-0 AGAINST Kyoto.  Why?   Because it would have required signatory nations to significantly cut greenhouse gases resulting from the burning of fosil fuels.  Because ratifying the treaty would have required a large reduction in the use of fossil fuels that we use to our our economy.  Until there is an alternative fuel source that is better than gold old fashioned coal and oil, restricting our economy's ability to burn these fuels would CRIPPLE US AS A NATION.  You are not seeing the total picture here, you simply cannot be seeing it.  I know the left's hatred for capitalism has blinded them to the fact that without our economy, we collapse.  It really is that simple.  We would be reduced to a third world nation in a very short period of time and you and I would not be sitting here writing on our computers because our world as we know it would change.   Yes, it really is all about oil.   But not the way you think.
and another thing
we aren't controlling anybody.  There are several countries in this world where you are controlled, but this ain't one of them.
One more thing:

I apologize for the length of my post, but so far, I still have freedom of speech.

Guess I just feel the need to get it all out before that freedom suddenly disappears, as well.  The majority of Americans don't agree with Bush, and we all know how he/his thugs handle people who dare to disagree with him.  If you don't believe me, just ask John McCain and/or Valerie Plame.

I'd like to add one more thing.

If these alleged WMDs are so widespread and so easily accessible in Iraq, why aren't any of them being used on our soldiers?

Honestly, that's one of the very first fears I had when I heard we were going to war with Iraq (when I still believed the reasons given by the president and supported the invasion based on those reasons).  I had visions of massive troop deaths at the hands of Iraqis and these WMDs.

Did that happen?

OK. Here's the thing...sm
Because we've been through this before and I feel a repeat coming on. I'm respectful and nice to everyone on these boards 99% of the time. People come over to the liberal board and pretend they are moderates or just want to *debate.* When all the time they are anti-everything liberal and have no intention of seeing the liberal point of view. In the end, they end up *insulted* off of the board and run to the other board and have a sling fest. Yawn. They have revelations over there contrary to the beliefs they portrayed on this board. So really I'm skeptical about debating with the like. You may be 100% different worldfan, but from your posts on the Conservative and News boards it would appear you would be more at home on the conservative board giving them a high five about what's going on over here. Just my observation.

I used to post on the conservative board but I left because they were getting too extreme for my liking. It's that simple. There are some topics over there that I would reply too, but I don't b/c of past comments made over there, which have made me stick to the liberal page. However, on quite a few issues I am far from liberal like abortion and fiscal spending.

I hope you get my points. If not, we don't have anything more to discuss.

Britons Tire of Cruel, Vulgar US: Poll

People in Britain view the United States as a vulgar, crime-ridden society obsessed with money and led by an incompetent president whose Iraq policy is failing, according to a newspaper poll.

The United States is no longer a symbol of hope to Britain and the British no longer have confidence in their transatlantic cousins to lead global affairs, according to the poll published in The Daily Telegraph.

...a majority of the Britons described Americans as uncaring, divided by class, awash in violent crime, vulgar, preoccupied with money, ignorant of the outside world, racially divided, uncultured and in the most overwhelming result (90 percent of respondents) dominated by big business.

The YouGov poll found that 77 percent of respondents disagreed with the statement that the US is a beacon of hope for the world.

As Americans prepared to celebrate the 230th anniversary of their independence on Tuesday, the poll found that only 12 percent of Britons trust them to act wisely on the global stage. This is half the number who had faith in the Vietnam-scarred White House of 1975.

A massive 83 percent of those questioned said that the United States doesn't care what the rest of the world thinks.

With much of the worst criticism aimed at the US adminstration, the poll showed that 70 percent of Britons like Americans a lot or a little.

US President George W. Bush fared significantly worse, with just one percent rating him a great leader against 77 percent who deemed him a pretty poor or terrible leader.

More than two-thirds who offered an opinion said America is essentially an imperial power seeking world domination. And 81 per cent of those who took a view said President George W Bush hypocritically championed democracy as a cover for the pursuit of American self-interests.

US policy in Iraq was similarly derided, with only 24 percent saying they felt that the US military action there was helping to bring democracy to the country.

A spokesman for the American embassy said that the poll's findings were contradicted by its own surveys.

We question the judgment of anyone who asserts the world would be a better place with Saddam still terrorizing his own nation and threatening people well beyond Iraq's borders, the paper quoted the unnamed spokesman as saying.

With respect to the poll's assertions about American society, we bear some of the blame for not successfully communicating America's extraordinary dynamism.

But frankly, so do you (the British press).

In answer to other questions, a majority of the Britons questions described Americans as uncaring, divided by class, awash in violent crime, vulgar, preoccupied with money, ignorant of the outside world, racially divided, uncultured and in the most overwhelming result (90 percent of respondents) dominated by big business.
