Everybody KNOWS Al Gore won the popular vote

It is awfully coincidental that the state that had the problems counting their votes, which ultimately cost AL Gore the election, was what? Oh thats's right it was....FLORIDA - George Bush's brother's state. You do remember Jeb was governor of Florida during that time, don't you?

popular vote was Gore
Im trying to remember back from 2000..there was a university, I think maybe University of Chicago..which did a recount and Gore won.  If all the ballots had been counted and all the registered voters who were turned away were allowed to vote, based on the party they were registered under, Gore would have won.  I remember back in 2001, the outrage, so I contacted the university and was assured the public would be allowed a copy of the study on the recount.  Geez..seems like centuries ago..I will check back with my political friends and find out the university..Maybe they still are offering their results on the recount. In any case, however, to be fair, when there is a election in doubt, IMHO, you go with the popular vote, which was Gore.
You mean one who won by 6.8% in popular vote
That's pretty legitimate if you ask me.
Popular vote
You know Obama did not win by a landslide of the popular vote so don't act like the whole country wanted him as president and the ones who didn't are a small minority.  All its going to take is a few more people to people to wake up and if we make it through this term intact, we won't have to worry about a second term.  His approval rating dropped 5% in a week while his disapproval rating went up 7%.  As the economy gets worse and worse the disapproval rating will continue to go up.  The stimulus bill is bloated and oh yeah does everyone know that the "rebate" we are getting in our paychecks is not really a rebate as the tax tables have not changes so some people will actually have to pay next year when they do taxes or not get a refund, guess they forgot to mention that, the housing bill he passed will help very few people...and eventually people will find out nothing he says is the truth. I wonder will happen then.
Y'all are just jealous he's so popular

and you all can't get a liberal talk show to take.  The Air America crowd can't keep themselves from stealing from their network long enough to try to get a quality show off the ground.

Contrary to popular belief, O supporters
as their divine Savior. Rather, he is just a fine American who cares deeply about his country, running for the highest office in the land. He has the strength to step up to the plate, turn a blind eye toward all that would seek to destroy him and do his best to tackle the mop-up job after one of the most devastating administrations in the history of our country. More that this, we cannot ask. He is calm, thoughtful, inspiring, steady, intuitive and gifted with an uncanny ability to inspire millions of Americans in the throes of an economic collapse to unite behind the simple notion that we can do better, that we are at the dawn of a new day and that our shared imperative is to embrace optimism and confidence in ourselves and in his leadership. In comparison to his opponent, who would use shrub style politics of fear to scare us into voting for him and thinks nothing of igniting culture wars and stoking the fires of division for political gain, there is no contest. Obama deserves the respect he has gained and without a doubt, he the best man for the job.
I'd be very embarrassed to admit that he was popular, if I were you...kind of reflects on right-w

I saw very little admirable, factual, interesting or thoughtful in his post.  If all these people admire him, like you say, this country is in more trouble than I thought.

Obama could win popular but still lose election - see message

It is possible.  It has happened before.  I think now especially in these final two days, when people are hearing Obama saying in a radio interview that he will bankrupt coal companies and skyrocket electricity bills, a lot of people are really wondering.  Especially the states where coal is their major industry.  They are starting to realize that a vote for the O means they'll be out of work.  Along with the birth certificate issue not being resolved, and other the other numerous questions about the O people are really wondering about him.

By the way, technically Gore did win . . .

in 2000.  He was cheated out of that election by . . . oh let's see . . . by the crooked business that went down in Florida which happened to have Bush's brother as governor.  Maybe you were sleeping when all that went down and came out as fact!  And another thing, 98% of the hate spewing on this board has been by the McCain/Palin fans, but I guess they learned how to be that way from those hate mongerers that they support!!  No hatred here . . . just calls 'em as I sees 'em.

Gore lies AGAIN!!

Gore criticizes Cheney for answering the scurrilous crap that the Democrats have been piling on Bush, saying "I waited two years before criticizing Bush".

Umm...not quite, Internet Breath.  Here's the link to the speech he made in ༾ trashing Bush, Cheney and the cabinet - calling them "un-American".  (Bush took office in ༽.)

Gore lying

I am not an AL Gore fan but I am wondering what indicates he lied?

He lost the election of 2000 and  was critical in 2002. Please (and I do mean this politely) what I am missing.

BTW, Popular Mechanics pretty much debunked all the myths you speak of.
http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/defense/1227842.html
Gore was a FAR better choice for America.
That's why we elected him. It took a crony-packed SCOTUS to act illegally to appoint Bush president even AFTER Repubs tried their best to suppress as many votes as possible to get him elected. It just wasn't good enough, so overwhelming was the vote for Gore.

So, looks like you're in the minority opinion box again. Must be hard having that happen time after time.

Another look at the 2000 Bush v. Gore debate.

I wonder if Bush would still have won if voters knew the extent to which he blatantly lied during this debate. To find the TRUTH, all someone has to do is take just about EVERYTHING Bush said, REVERSE IT (with the possible exception of the comment: "I believe the role of the military is to fight and win war and therefore prevent war from happening in the first place." I didn't understand it in 2000 and still don't know what it means. And why did he only focus on "our friends in the Middle East?") I know this isn’t new news, but I found it interesting to take a second look at this. Hindsight being 20/20, I'm amazed at how good Gore is suddenly starting to look!

From www.debates.org/pages/trans2000a.html

MODERATOR: New question. How would you go about as president deciding when it was in the national interest to use U.S. force, generally?

BUSH: Well, if it's in our vital national interest, and that means whether our territory is threatened or people could be harmed, whether or not the alliances are -- our defense alliances are threatened, whether or not our friends in the Middle East are threatened. That would be a time to seriously consider the use of force. Secondly, whether or not the mission was clear. Whether or not it was a clear understanding as to what the mission would be. Thirdly, whether or not we were prepared and trained to win. Whether or not our forces were of high morale and high standing and well-equipped. And finally, whether or not there was an exit strategy. I would take the use of force very seriously. I would be guarded in my approach. I don't think we can be all things to all people in the world. I think we've got to be very careful when we commit our troops. The vice president and I have a disagreement about the use of troops. He believes in nation building. I would be very careful about using our troops as nation builders. I believe the role of the military is to fight and win war and therefore prevent war from happening in the first place. So I would take my responsibility seriously. And it starts with making sure we rebuild our military power. Morale in today's military is too low. We're having trouble meeting recruiting goals. We met the goals this year, but in the previous years we have not met recruiting goals. Some of our troops are not well-equipped. I believe we're overextended in too many places. And therefore I want to rebuild the military power. It starts with a billion dollar pay raise for the men and women who wear the uniform. A billion dollars more than the president recently signed into law. It's to make sure our troops are well-housed and well-equipped. Bonus plans to keep some of our high-skilled folks in the services and a commander in chief that sets the mission to fight and win war and prevent war from happening in the first place.

MODERATOR: Vice President Gore, one minute.

GORE: I want to make it clear, our military is the strongest, best-trained, best-equipped, best-led fighting force in the world and in the history of the world. Nobody should have any doubt about that, least of all our adversaries or potential adversaries. If you entrust me with the presidency, I will do whatever is necessary in order to make sure our forces stay the strongest in the world. In fact, in my ten-year budget proposal I've set aside more than twice as much for this purpose as Governor Bush has in his proposal. Now, I think we should be reluctant to get involved in someplace in a foreign country. But if our national security is at stake, if we have allies, if we've tried every other course, if we're sure military action will succeed, and if the costs are proportionate to the benefits, we should get involved. Now, just because we don't want to get involved everywhere doesn't mean we should back off anywhere it comes up. I disagree with the proposal that maybe only when oil supplies are at stake that our national security is at risk. I think that there are situations like in Bosnia or Kosovo where there's a genocide, where our national security is at stake there.

BUSH: I agree our military is the strongest in the world today, that's not the question. The question is will it be the strongest in the years to come? Everywhere I go on the campaign trail I see moms and dads whose son or daughter may wear the uniform and they tell me about how discouraged their son or daughter may be. A recent poll was taken among 1,000 enlisted personnel, as well as officers, over half of whom will leave the service when their time of enlistment is up. The captains are leaving the service. There is a problem. And it's going to require a new commander in chief to rebuild the military power. I was honored to be flanked by Colin Powell and General Norman Schwartzkopf recently stood by me side and agreed with me. If we don't have a clear vision of the military, if we don't stop extending our troops all around the world and nation building missions, then we're going to have a serious problem coming down the road, and I'm going to prevent that. I'm going to rebuild our military power. It's one of the major priorities of my administration.

Global warming and the swiftboaring of Al Gore: A timeline
http://scienceblogs.com/drcharles/2006/08/a_timeline_tracing_the_origins.php
Gore's "science" on global warming is flawed....
all one has to do is research the topic. On that basis alone he should not gave gotten the prize, and that has nothing to do with brain washing political propaganda. The fact that so many just buy his theory without looking at both sides is what smacks of political brain washing. No one asked anyone to defend the choice and we are all entitled to our opinions. This is a liberal gimme and has been for years...there was a time when it was a vaulted honor. I don't think many consider it as such anymore...and choosing Gore will not help that downward spiral I'm afraid. And, to be brutally honest...your description "esteemed leader...." and AL Ifoundedtheinternet Gore are diametrically in opposition. Again...in my opinion...to which I am entitled...check the liberal talking points...you are the live and let live people. Right...? Or do you want to just announce that it is liberals live and let liberals live?
Even Al Gore thinks caps and trade is a bad idea!!!

I think Gore has turned off enough people recently that most Dems don't even support him.
Thank God he was not elected.
Gore gave a superb speech today, very inspiring...
...though anyone addicted to Fox wouldn't know it. He really nailed the problem right on the old square head - best speech that's been given in years now. Naturally, the networks are too frightened to utter more than a peep about it, but maybe C-span is re-running it, if you get the chance check it out.

I'd almost forgotten how refreshing it is to see a politician really speak to an unrehearsed crowd without reading from a teleprompter or uttering gotta protect 'mericans and they hate us for our freedom and 9/11 every other line. Nice to know someone sees what's going on and is actually concerned about protecting rule by Constitutional provisions for a change.
A vote for Ron Paul is a wasted vote. No chance on Earth he can win. sm
Votes for him only take away from the real candidates.
Good point. I don't vote party, I vote for the
person.  Every Democrat is not bad and every Republican good or vice versa.
Then you need to vote for Obama. A vote for McCain will...sm
not help you. Obama wants to give tax relief to 90% of Americans who earn 1% of the gross earnings in this country. The top 1% of earners bring in 90% of earnings. Any one person who earns $250,000 or less will benefit from Obama's tax plan.
they didn't vote - they registered to vote -
that is a big difference. The votes were not counted, they were stopped by the means in which they were supposed to be stopped - ID verification, address verification, etc. The cards were filled out by the ACORN workers and then given to the proper authorities to sort through.

The phony registrations were pulled out by the actual authorities. ACORN is just a middle man.
We get what we vote for. If we vote "party", we get extremes.
If we make it a point to try to identify candidates who hold moderate views and vote for them, rather than voting a "party ticket", we'll have a better chance of getting away from these extremes, whether right or left.

One of the problems, though, is that candidates often play games with their real positions. During the primaries, they talk the "party" line and then they move to the center for the general election. Both sides do this, unfortunately.

The only hope is to look at their past records - and take them seriously. History is prologue to the future. When a man has done certain things in his adult life, it tells us more about him than anything he says. If Obama hasn't taught us this fundamental truth, we'll never learn it. The evidence about him goes all the way back to his days in law school, and it was available for anyone to see. Some didn't bother to look. Others looked and didn't take it seriously. Either way, we weren't paying attention or he'd have probably never made it through the primaries.

No one can pull the wool over your eyes unless you let them, and the way they do it is by making smooth speeches filled with unlikely promises (and even glaring contradictions as they appeal to groups with opposite interests). They believe we won't notice the lies, exaggerations and mischaracterizations of their opponent's positions, etc. Unfortunately, they are often right.

Let's start taking the candidates' prior records and their life histories as the best evidence of who they really are - not their speeches. If we do this, we'll make better choices.

Nominate Cindy Sheehan for Time Magazine Person of the Year - Pass it on!
I'd vote for him
as long as he is a real man and not some man who cowers to every poll or what his wife tells him to do.  We need more real men in this country who say what they do and do what they say.  I think men are tired of being disrespected and not being, well, men.  I think you are right.  We as a people need to elect and everyday fly-over-country Joe to the presidency.  The type of Joe that still realizes what made this country great.  God, glory, and guts.  My pastor was just commenting on that this morning.
vote war?

If you like war, empire building, big government then you are safe in voting for any of the candidates running for the presidential office, except for one: Ron Paul.

The agendas are all headed in the same direction, so you really do not have to worry about which one to vote for for.

Ron Paul is the only candidate with a different agenda. And of course, should he win, he cannot make changes overnight. But he could lead us in the direction of limited government, sound money, peace and constitutional law. Paul's ideas and principles are not new, but are similar to those of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and others.

I will vote Ron Paul.

I will vote for either one.
I consider it my job to get a dem elected this time, that's why I don't take part in the arguments about them.
don't vote
Please don't vote. If you can't see all the atrocious things that our current tyrant (err I mean president) has done and how he has damaged America in the world, please don't vote. I would really hate to see someone who has never bothered to open their eyes to the way the world is and taken the time to educate themselves in politics or world issues voting for someone in this election. I think all those people should just stay home because they have no idea what they are voting for or what that person might stand for.

And btw, if anyone was the antichrist it would be Bush and McCain. D-E-V-I-L.
Don't vote?
Who are you to decide who should vote and who should not? Just because people don't have the same political beliefs you do doesn't mean they should sit home on election day! Sounds like if you had your way, we'd still be singing God Save the Queen!
Why vote at all
People have been "dumbed down" into believing they have to vote. Why doesn't anyone realize...our vote doesn't count. There's no way I'll vote for McCain and I'm not sure about Obama. My no vote for me is a statement. Sure you can write in anyone you want, you can say none of the above but why even bother. It's not going to make a difference. Those ballots will just be thrown in the trash without a second thought. Whoever is our next president has already been picked. We're just watching the side show until the election day. Then it will be reported to make it look to the people that we have a say in who is elected president. The simple truth is we don't. I was talking to my dad and he said this year he's not going to vote. He told a co-worker why do you feel you have to vote, it does no good. But unfortunately a lot of people think the same way - that their vote counts. I'm not voting and then if something gets messed up none of my family or friends can "blame" me that I voted for him. So my choice this year is to not vote.
Vote
I am African American born in 1958.  The Voting Rights Act was passed in 1965.  I remember my father telling me to always vote.  I will never give up my right to vote even if others think our vote does not count.  There was a time when my parents could not vote at all.  I will think long and hard on who to vote for and will vote for the lesser of two evils.
I vote Dem because I believe
in the principles they stand for.  I am not against voting for a repub . . . just have never seen one whose priorities are the same as mine.  If they did have same priorities, they would be a democrat.  Flame away.
Why would the DNC want you to vote?
To support THEIR agenda of course! lol
how to vote
Truthfully, I don't know which one of the candidates is better, or which one is worse.  Corruption is everywhere.  Maybe there is no real good answer, and it's all an exercise in futility.  I'm still going to vote, just because it's something that I do.  However, at this point, I might as well just flip a coin.  Actually, lately, I've just been looking at the candidates from a health and vitality standpoint.  Which ones are the healthiest?  Which ones seem to be in a position to withstand stress better than the other?  Experience seems important, but if everything else is pretty equal, health is all that's left to compare, IMHO.
one vote
good thing you only get one vote.
Isn't there someone else we can vote for? sm

Are these two guys, McCain and Obama, the only choices we have?  Realistically?  Nader is never gonna win, so he isn't.  What would happen if we all did a write-in?

It has come down to voting for Communism or More of the Same.  As I don't want to be a Communist, I guess I'll vote for More of the Same.

Also, all this arguing about government-run healthcare...Anybody been to the VA recently????  Gee that is working so very well for us.

There's my 2 cents.  Have at it!

Vote
Hi! You are absoultely correct. EVERY vote from EVERY state should matter.

I live in one of the battleground states (PA), so my vote will matter I this election. However we were told from January 2008 until the primary that our choice would not matter because it was so late the candidates will have already been chosen......McCain already had been but CLinton vs Obama was still very close.

I do not wish to share my political views, only state that EACH vote from EACH state should carry the same signtificance.
No wonder so many in our country are so apathetic. It must feel awful to have your vote mean nothing. We are disenfranchising most of the population. This is not government of the people, or for the people regardless of your political peferences.
