I think Gore has turned off enough people recently that most Dems don't even support him.

With the people who seemed turned off by Palin,
nm
Uh, no, you and people like you turned the C board into a sewer. SM
Other than a few drive-bys, it's been great since then.  Thanks!
Several high-profile dems support McCain.
nm
Of course there are people in Alaska that do not support Palin
just as there are people in Illinois that do not support Obama--come on. A rally does not mean that all of Alaska hates Palin--as a matter of fact, have you seen her approval rating?
Saying dems are for the people is like saying AAMT is for the MTs - full of hooey.

How about warning before you open any links from pubs or dems or other ANONYMOUS PEOPLE
just because they say they are a pub doesn't mean anything. You know ANYONE can post on here right???

and my mother recently said to me (sm)
It doesn't matter who wins...when it is time it is going to happen, regardless of what we do. If he is meant to be in office he will be. God's plan will come to pass no matter what.
What was it I just read recently...
... somewhere, about how yet another large chunk of the porkulus was going to install a guardrail around a particular reservoir.

Only one problem... the reservoir is dry, and no one goes there.

Maybe it was this one. If so, it's been canceled. Thank heaven for the occasional wiser head....

Is Obama losing support or winning support?
John Clodfelter of Mechanicsville, Va., whose son was among the 17 sailors killed in the Cole bombing, said he arrived at the meeting with apprehension over the decision to close the prison. But after listening to the president and being assured that the terrorism suspects would not be released, Mr. Clodfelter said his opinion changed.

“I did not vote for the man,” Mr. Clodfelter said, “but the way he talks to you, you can’t help but believe in him. He left me with a very positive feeling that he’s going to get this done right.”
The deficit is coming down. It is down by 18 billion just recently

how do you know no one has anyone serving over there.  You have no way of knowing that.

UCLA released a study recently that said...
that the New Deal probably prolonged the depression by at least 7 years. Are you sure that socialism is what the market needs--it is my thought that this problem was well on its way before Bush came into office--caused by the interference in the market that was already in place.
Have you priced medical insurance recently?
The $1000 may be a little exaggerated, but 6 years ago when I wanted to get a policy that covered merely 1 daughter and I, the quoted rate was $700/month. Even through work, a family policy runs around $600/month just for the medical, probably another $50 combined for the dental/vision. Between copays and prescriptions (even generic), you can add a little bit more to that. So while I agree that $1000 might be high, $700 would likely be a low conservative estimate. And, as noted, I'm basing my numbers on 5 years ago; since it's regularly on the news that the cost of policies has gone up, the $1000 may not be too far off.
Right. A friend of mine belonged to a union recently.
nm
Yeah, well 1 million protested our Govt recently too.
nm
By the way, technically Gore did win . . .

in 2000.  He was cheated out of that election by . . . oh let's see . . . by the crooked business that went down in Florida which happened to have Bush's brother as governor.  Maybe you were sleeping when all that went down and came out as fact!  And another thing, 98% of the hate spewing on this board has been by the McCain/Palin fans, but I guess they learned how to be that way from those hate mongerers that they support!!  No hatred here . . . just calls 'em as I sees 'em.

Gore lies AGAIN!!

Gore criticizes Cheney for answering the scurrilous crap that the Democrats have been piling on Bush, saying "I waited two years before criticizing Bush".

Umm...not quite, Internet Breath.  Here's the link to the speech he made in ༾ trashing Bush, Cheney and the cabinet - calling them "un-American".  (Bush took office in ༽.)

Gore lying

I am not an AL Gore fan but I am wondering what indicates he lied?

He lost the election of 2000 and  was critical in 2002. Please (and I do mean this politely) what I am missing.

He's already turned it down once
He considered it in 1996 with Bob Dole, but turned it down. I doubt he would have done it now even if chosen. Not that he wouldn't have been great.
But this has turned into a different
conversation.
I already got pi$$ed and turned it off...nm

popular vote was Gore
Im trying to remember back from 2000..there was a university, I think maybe University of Chicago..which did a recount and Gore won.  If all the ballots had been counted and all the registered voters who were turned away were allowed to vote, based on the party they were registered under, Gore would have won.  I remember back in 2001, the outrage, so I contacted the university and was assured the public would be allowed a copy of the study on the recount.  Geez..seems like centuries ago..I will check back with my political friends and find out the university..Maybe they still are offering their results on the recount. In any case, however, to be fair, when there is a election in doubt, IMHO, you go with the popular vote, which was Gore.
Gore was a FAR better choice for America.
That's why we elected him. It took a crony-packed SCOTUS to act illegally to appoint Bush president even AFTER Repubs tried their best to suppress as many votes as possible to get him elected. It just wasn't good enough, so overwhelming was the vote for Gore.

So, looks like you're in the minority opinion box again. Must be hard having that happen time after time.
sorry, I meant Gore, not Kerry....(nm)
nm
Gee, he was fine with you when he supported Gore
Reminds me of the line from the movie Dune....

"The sleeper has awoken".
Everybody KNOWS Al Gore won the popular vote
It is awfully coincidental that the state that had the problems counting their votes, which ultimately cost AL Gore the election, was what? Oh thats's right it was....FLORIDA - George Bush's brother's state. You do remember Jeb was governor of Florida during that time, don't you?
Gore is laughable and pathetic anyway.
nm
Al Gore and his "green" attitude
is the biggest bunch of BS I've ever seen.  That fat man preaches to everyone about global warming and then jumps on his private jets and flies off.  The kicker is that he is getting rich off of this scam too.
Oh, I know. Al Gore is the biggest phony

turned down claim
My husband went through that too, what you need to get is an attorney who only gets paid, if he gets disability.  We did and finally thank God, we finally got it and boy did we ever need it.  You also get a retroactive amount from the first time you applied, so there was some money involved and now every month it goes into his account by direct deposit and each year it goes up a little more.
Another look at the 2000 Bush v. Gore debate.

I wonder if Bush would still have won if voters knew the extent to which he blatantly lied during this debate. To find the TRUTH, all someone has to do is take just about EVERYTHING Bush said, REVERSE IT (with the possible exception of the comment: "I believe the role of the military is to fight and win war and therefore prevent war from happening in the first place." I didn't understand it in 2000 and still don't know what it means. And why did he only focus on "our friends in the Middle East?") I know this isn’t new news, but I found it interesting to take a second look at this. Hindsight being 20/20, I'm amazed at how good Gore is suddenly starting to look!

From www.debates.org/pages/trans2000a.html

MODERATOR: New question. How would you go about as president deciding when it was in the national interest to use U.S. force, generally?

BUSH: Well, if it's in our vital national interest, and that means whether our territory is threatened or people could be harmed, whether or not the alliances are -- our defense alliances are threatened, whether or not our friends in the Middle East are threatened. That would be a time to seriously consider the use of force. Secondly, whether or not the mission was clear. Whether or not it was a clear understanding as to what the mission would be. Thirdly, whether or not we were prepared and trained to win. Whether or not our forces were of high morale and high standing and well-equipped. And finally, whether or not there was an exit strategy. I would take the use of force very seriously. I would be guarded in my approach. I don't think we can be all things to all people in the world. I think we've got to be very careful when we commit our troops. The vice president and I have a disagreement about the use of troops. He believes in nation building. I would be very careful about using our troops as nation builders. I believe the role of the military is to fight and win war and therefore prevent war from happening in the first place. So I would take my responsibility seriously. And it starts with making sure we rebuild our military power. Morale in today's military is too low. We're having trouble meeting recruiting goals. We met the goals this year, but in the previous years we have not met recruiting goals. Some of our troops are not well-equipped. I believe we're overextended in too many places. And therefore I want to rebuild the military power. It starts with a billion dollar pay raise for the men and women who wear the uniform. A billion dollars more than the president recently signed into law. It's to make sure our troops are well-housed and well-equipped. Bonus plans to keep some of our high-skilled folks in the services and a commander in chief that sets the mission to fight and win war and prevent war from happening in the first place.

MODERATOR: Vice President Gore, one minute.

GORE: I want to make it clear, our military is the strongest, best-trained, best-equipped, best-led fighting force in the world and in the history of the world. Nobody should have any doubt about that, least of all our adversaries or potential adversaries. If you entrust me with the presidency, I will do whatever is necessary in order to make sure our forces stay the strongest in the world. In fact, in my ten-year budget proposal I've set aside more than twice as much for this purpose as Governor Bush has in his proposal. Now, I think we should be reluctant to get involved in someplace in a foreign country. But if our national security is at stake, if we have allies, if we've tried every other course, if we're sure military action will succeed, and if the costs are proportionate to the benefits, we should get involved. Now, just because we don't want to get involved everywhere doesn't mean we should back off anywhere it comes up. I disagree with the proposal that maybe only when oil supplies are at stake that our national security is at risk. I think that there are situations like in Bosnia or Kosovo where there's a genocide, where our national security is at stake there.

BUSH: I agree our military is the strongest in the world today, that's not the question. The question is will it be the strongest in the years to come? Everywhere I go on the campaign trail I see moms and dads whose son or daughter may wear the uniform and they tell me about how discouraged their son or daughter may be. A recent poll was taken among 1,000 enlisted personnel, as well as officers, over half of whom will leave the service when their time of enlistment is up. The captains are leaving the service. There is a problem. And it's going to require a new commander in chief to rebuild the military power. I was honored to be flanked by Colin Powell and General Norman Schwartzkopf recently stood by me side and agreed with me. If we don't have a clear vision of the military, if we don't stop extending our troops all around the world and nation building missions, then we're going to have a serious problem coming down the road, and I'm going to prevent that. I'm going to rebuild our military power. It's one of the major priorities of my administration.

i can remember relatives saying if gore won, he would be antichrist

She did cooperate. She turned over the tape of....
one of her office people calling the guy in question. Which he has already testified to was not at her request. She did not lie. Was Hollis French lying when he said that the governor's office was cooperating and no subpoenas would be necessary? Or is he lying now? When things changed is when she was named as the VP candidate. We should all be able to do the math on that one.
Turned a blind eye? Did you hear what
the "frightened senile old woman" had just called Louis Farrakhan's Messiah? Maybe next time Sen. McC will just let the crowd go, as O did this morning. After McC stood up like the man he is in front of his own, this morning when O was "acknowledging him," his someone from his own crown yelled "shoot him." I can assure you, you will not here a word of this on CNN or MSNBC and probably not anywhere else, but I heard it. O hesitated, smiled and kept kept on ranting. Now, when this happened at McC's rally, he was inciting riotous behavior and creating havoc, but O is calming his crowds. There is such a double standard in this election it is pathetic.
GW Bush turned out to be socialist
He is the poster boy for how deregulation doesn't work.  Now we all get to pay for his mistakes.  The rich people are technically on welfare now thanks to the average person.

Global warming and the swiftboaring of Al Gore: A timeline
http://scienceblogs.com/drcharles/2006/08/a_timeline_tracing_the_origins.php
Gore's "science" on global warming is flawed....
all one has to do is research the topic. On that basis alone he should not gave gotten the prize, and that has nothing to do with brain washing political propaganda. The fact that so many just buy his theory without looking at both sides is what smacks of political brain washing. No one asked anyone to defend the choice and we are all entitled to our opinions. This is a liberal gimme and has been for years...there was a time when it was a vaulted honor. I don't think many consider it as such anymore...and choosing Gore will not help that downward spiral I'm afraid. And, to be brutally honest...your description "esteemed leader...." and AL Ifoundedtheinternet Gore are diametrically in opposition. Again...in my opinion...to which I am entitled...check the liberal talking points...you are the live and let live people. Right...? Or do you want to just announce that it is liberals live and let liberals live?
Even Al Gore thinks caps and trade is a bad idea!!!

But that's my point, the military HAS turned into a kid club...
For the most part.  The recruiters prey on high school kids.  Let's take a poll out there of how many of you were capable of making truly wise life-impacting decisions at age 17 and 18?  I sure wasn't and my kids certainly weren't able to.  Deciding on college, maybe.  Deciding to party, most certainly.  And the problem with the military is that it is advertised as a ticket to education and world-travel, the recruiters don't advertise it as a one-way ticket to an immoral war.  And as you know, it is extremely hard to "quit" the military if there is a change of heart......
turned down for disability - notified the day of the funeral!
My sister-in-law was diagnosed with a heart condition and told she only had a matter of months to live. She applied for disability and her husband received the notice that her benefits were denied on the day of her funeral because they said she was not disabled. Now how much more disabled can you get?
Well, it has turned into a multimillion dollar business...
I just find it appalling that they made a $68 million profit and most of that came from aborting babies. It is the only service they render where they require cash up front. No wonder they don't want the laws repealed. They don't give a DANG about womens' reproductive choice. They care about a $68 million profit. I hope if McCain is elected the FIRST thing he does is work on removing federal funding from abortion. There is no way the american public en masse should have to pay for this stuff. Let the posters here keep sending their checks and all the pro-choicers, let THEM pay for it. Seems only fair to me.
Bush turned out to be a socialist and you were fooled by him
Our banks are under socialism now.
Yeah, he turned....gone over to the dark side...nm

Nope, PA turned Democrat last year.

Spector has had a few bouts with cancer and now this is his way to get out without retiring. That's what that is all about. He wll blame it on not being re-elected, but I doubt he wants to be re-elected. He did state he only got re-elected this term by 1%. So, if he didn't want out, why would he buck the pubs that were left in PA.

He's switching parties to be sure, and he hasn't done anything for PA lately due to his cancers. While I don't blame him for not being able to keep up, it's no reason for him to be a turncoat. In fact, he was a closet dem for years. So, come to think of it, he may win re-election because of it, but I will not vote for him.

O's votes support his claims. JM's votes support Bush.
Believe what you like. Voting records tell the tale. Could use a few more details on that budget. Just what programs will he slash and and how many tax dollars will be directed away from middle class and in the direction of the rich? How much longer can the infrastructure afford to crumble?

JM adopted O's withdrawal plan when he saw how well it went over with the public in an election year. He flipped on the war once. What's to stop him from flipping again once elected? The nation is war weary. Some prefer a surge in diplomacy, not military answers to diplomatic failures. Ask the Iraqis who have lost more than 100,000 among them how sucessful the war has been. Obama has always understood that the OBL/Taliban live in Afganistan, not Iraq. JM, a little slow on the draw there.

I see nothing in JMs platform that backs his claims about transparency. I see specific plan on the O side under technology initiatives, continued initiatives which originated under Clinton and were reversed during the undercover Bush administration. Pork barrel spending for pubs means something different than it does to dems. Slash the poor to give to the rich? Hard seel in the current economic frefall. Also find nothing in JM's plan to address runaway contract corruption in Iraq. Having Halliburton and companies there props up those struggling American corporations. Show me the plan.

Antiglobal/antidiplomacy. No surprise there. This is about the futureworld, not American imperial delusions of grandeur. So much data on the drilling scam being an immediate relief for gas problems out there it is not worth addressing. Can you say T-Bone Pickens, i.e., we can't drill our way out of this one. He should know. Been an oil man all his life.

Since these are just a few, what else do you have up your sleeve?
Gore gave a superb speech today, very inspiring...
...though anyone addicted to Fox wouldn't know it. He really nailed the problem right on the old square head - best speech that's been given in years now. Naturally, the networks are too frightened to utter more than a peep about it, but maybe C-span is re-running it, if you get the chance check it out.

I'd almost forgotten how refreshing it is to see a politician really speak to an unrehearsed crowd without reading from a teleprompter or uttering gotta protect 'mericans and they hate us for our freedom and 9/11 every other line. Nice to know someone sees what's going on and is actually concerned about protecting rule by Constitutional provisions for a change.
I am lucky. I was invested very modestly and just turned 65 in August. sm
I pulled everything out of the market 2 months ago and put it into CDs. Pure luck on my part.
yeah, but i turned on the TV to watch Days of Our Lives
and everyone watching that channel was doing so to watch Days of Our Lives. If we wanted to watch news, we would turn to news channels.
