For convention coverage minus spinning, bashing, biased

Tired of attack politics?  Don't need reporters telling you what you just saw or what to think about it?  Want a one-on-one convention experience?  Want to digest the content without the interference of disconcerting and distracting commentary?  Want to be in charge of deciding what is and what is not pertinent during the course of the conventions?  Do anchors and networks promoting their own hidden agendas get under your skin as they invent issues of no consequence, discount messages of great importance and try to stir up conflict?   Do you find most coverage obnoxious, rude and insulting to your intelligence?  Does their reporting look and sound like make believe?  Do you think our candidates, conventions, parties, issues, policies and political process deserve more dignity than a big-top circus/carnival presentation?

The solution is easy.  Switch that channel.  Try CSPAN.  Not to worry.  If you feel you are missing something in the way of staying abreast with the pundit's play-by-play smear scripts, you can always get caught up on all those issues the next time you log onto MT Stars political forum.

Obama bashing versus Palin bashing... sm
Obama will be in the forefront for the next 4 years, assuming the electoral college pans out the way the popular vote did and providing his BC holds up in court.

Palin, on the other hand, has gone back to the frozen tundra. Whether she resurfaces in 2012 remains to be seen, but can't we just wait until then to start in on her?
I am not spinning anything.
The poster to whom I responded had absolutely nothing to offer except a childish one liner about Kool-Aid, which she couldn't even spell correctly. It is clear she hates President Obama and resents the fact that the majority of the country voted for him.

It is my personal opinion that President Obama is doing a fabulous job, and I am entitled to express my opinion just as much as you or anyone else on this forum.

If anyone is spinning, it is you!
Always twisting and spinning

things for your own advantage.  I'm just tired of the same ole BS spewed by you.  Obama is the best thing and Bush is the root of all evil...blah blah blah.

All politicians are evil.  That is why we have switched control from pubs to dems and our country is still going down the crapper.  That isn't change.  Seems to me like pubs and dems alike want to spend.  They only complain when the other side spends and screws the American people but it is fair play when it is their political party doing all the spending.

Obama is not doing a good job.  If we was, there wouldn't be so many tea parties, etc.  Moderate democrats aren't even on board with what he is doing either.  Our country is quickly changing for the worse and yes...Bush started it....but Obama is going to finish it and he is pushing it as quickly as he can.  He has blatantly lied and the media has given him a pass.  The man has broken so many promises and is spending so much money that we don't have.  He is ruining us and all people like you do is refuse to see what he is actually doing.  You just listen to his smooth teleprompter speeches and watch with gaga gaga eyes and drool while you believe every lie that comes out of his mouth.

You are just as bad as the Bush lovers who refuse to believe he did anything wrong either.  I think the extreme left and extreme right both need to get a clue!

That's not twisting and spinning...(sm)
That was a direct quote...hence the marks that look like this:  "  ".  Maybe my posts just make you dizzy because they are outside of the (watch out...here come some more of those marks).."no spin zone."
Spinning the report won't change it.
My guess is that DHS knew very well that this report WOULD be leaked to the press (they had "don't leak to press" on the first page), and used it to try to suppress attendance at the tea parties. The timing is MIGHTY suspicious.
Some one stop this woman from shoe shopping and spinning...sm
First of all, other than the obvious damage control (spinning) Ms. Rice is doing, what are the comparisons of Iraqi War to America's Civil War?? Second, isn't her not my department response to Katrina just the biggest taletell sign that it is time for her and her boss to go?
--------------
Condi uses Civil War to slap Iraq critics

Secretary of State Rice compared the Iraq war with the American Civil War, telling a magazine that slavery might have lasted longer in this country if the North had decided to end the fight early.

I'm sure there are people who thought it was a mistake to fight the Civil War to its end and to insist that the emancipation of slaves would hold, Rice said in the new issue of Essence magazine.

I know there were people who said, 'Why don't we get out of this now, take a peace with the South, but leave the South with slaves?' Rice said.

Rice also bristled at the notion that the Bush administration's slow response last year in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina was because of the race of the majority of the victims.

I resented the notion that the President of the United States, this President of the United States, would somehow decide to let people suffer because they were black, Rice told the magazine.

I found that to be the most corrosive and outrageous claim that anybody could have made, and it was wholly and totally irresponsible.

Asked if she felt personally accountable, Rice said, The government did its best. People aren't perfect, and this response was not perfect. You know, I do foreign policy, I don't run Homeland Security. I don't run FEMA. I do foreign policy. She added, I did what I could to coordinate the international response.

Bill Hutchinson
Was bashing her, was bashing his choice of
her. I said she was not the MOST qualified. Did not say she wasn't qualified. I said he picked because she would help with the base. That's actually a compliment.

Rather than attacking, try to understand the content.
Convention bounce. Big Whoop.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/07/cnn-poll-of-polls-obamas-lead-shrinks-to-just-one-point/
CNN Poll of Polls: Obama's Lead Shrinks to Just One Percent –
44% to 43%. That 13% undecided vote is fair game and anybody's guess. Those guys were not terribly swayed by the debutante debut. CNN’s most recent poll consists of three surveys: CBS (September 1-3), Gallup (September 4-6), and Diageo/Hotline (September 2-4). This poll does not have a sampling error. It was taken in the middle of the pub RNC euphoria. 2-point bounce, not unexpected and not all that impressive. According to this poll, 50% mark has not been broken.

Since people change their minds daily, polls notoriously are not terribly reliable until they stabilize, which typically happens as the elections draws closer. More telling is the trend in the electoral map which is an indicator that will trump voter polls and opinion polls. Poll swap posts are a waste of time and will not effectively take focus off the issues at hand, especially with the serious blow to the economy this past weekend's FMFM news brings to light.

I saw a lot of pictures and to me it looked just like the convention,
Republican, all old and white. I saw no black faces in the crowd, just white. I think veiled attempt (at first) as an anti-Obama rally. Just talking with husband tonight. I am old and have never seen anything like what is being spouted now days, very dangerous situation for Obama, I think. Just heard man asking radio station today about concentration camps in America. What? Why is everyone running scared? What in the h. is going on? I think people are hysterical and the insanity has gone too far.
Why no coverage

My guess would be that Bush doesn't want people to know the truth. He has refused to take the advice of his advisors regarding this war. He has refused to admit that he's capable of making a mistake.  He has stomped on freedom of expression by limiting his "town hall" meetings to only those who worship him.  Anyone disagreeing with or questioning his policies wasn't permitted inside.  It's becoming more and more evident that he and his administration certainly don't have much fondness for the truth, either, considering all the lies perpetrated by them, which is what got us into Iraq to begin with.

I'm very, very concerned about what his policies have done to the safety of everyone in America.  We are certainly in a quagmire, and it will take many future Presidents to fix what Bush busted.

first too much coverage of

Obama . . .now not enough . . . can never please you guys and gals.

CNN has done coverage throughout the
Some of the interviews weird rather odd.
The picture was taken in California at an ANSWER convention. SM

You may remember the incident when the war first started and a soldier threw a grenade into a tent killing several other soldiers, including, I believe an officer.  This lovely show of support for the soldiers was on display at that convention.

Have you been watching the convention and does this help you in your voting decision

Have you been watching the Democrat convention and what do you think so far?  I watched it last night.  Lots of commentaries that were a little boring.  I will definitely NOT watch when both Hillary & Bill speak (they will have nothing interesting to hear), but I will watch everything else.  Loved the tribute to Kennedy.  His health condition is tragic.  He's done so much good while in the senate.  Also found Michelle to be a wonderful speaker and a very good hearted person.  She grew up and was raised similar to my beliefs and how I was raised.  She knows the struggles we Americans face every day.  I think Barack and Michelle are just a couple of very down to earth, well grounded individuals and their daughters are simply adorable.

On the republican side I am equally anxious to watch that convention.  I need to hear Cindy McCain talk before I can decide what kind of a person I think she is.  I want to hear about her and John McCain's story and what their family is like.

Does the convention help you in your choice of who you will vote for.

They said that Bill always leaves the convention the day after his speech -- nm
x
Neither President Bush or the VP are attending the convention....
Laura Bush will be representing him.  I think there will be some kind of satellite link thing from him.  I am sure this was expected by most of us.  It is in doubt whether John McCain will.  He and Sarah Palin are going to Mississippi today at the request of Gov. Haley Barbour to look at their MEMA plans and procedures.
Clinton did not ignore the Geneva Convention
Clinton didn't set up torture facilities, Clinton didn't have a secret assassination team - IF he did - don't you think the pubs would have outed him? They assassinated him over a blowjob - that's all they could come up with.
Uh-huh, better or biased?

My husband is a vet so has VA coverage....
but he also works for the government and is a federal employee. I don't claim to know all there is to know either, but I believe the federal employee insurance depends on the best deal the government can get with a private insurance company. His happens to be Blue Cross/Blue Shield of the state we reside in. Maybe it is BC/BS across the board. But, at any rate, it is a private insurance company, not an entity for all federal employees in the United States administered from a central location. As to whether or not a person working at a VA hospital is a federal employee, my first inclination would be yes, because the government administers the VA hospitals. But, I do not know that to be a fact. The supplemental programs you talk about are state administered and vary state to state. Even Medicaid is to some degree controlled by individual states. What people are talking about when they talk about socialized medicine is like in Canada, in France, in Cuba...and other countries, where it is all centralized in the federal government. The federal government decides on the coverage, it administers the whole thing, from one place. Everyone gets the same plan, regardless. To some people, it looks good that the "rich" and the "poor" have the same plan and even if you have money you cannot jump "the line." "The line" being the waiting list for anything nonemergent. That is why Canadians come across the border in droves for procedures, etc. Recently two high risk pregnancies had to come to Seattle because there was no room for them in Canadian hospitals. I saw France's President on TV talking about how their health care plan is becoming nonsustainable and talking about having to cut benefits, raise taxes, or something soon. He talked about free market health care...so while some people might view socialized medicine as a cure-all, it isn't, and it is not sustainable, because it doesn't attack the core issue, and that is finding a way to bring costs DOWN. Historically, the free market system where there is competition brings costs down. The great minds of this country need to sit down and talk about that, reason it out, and not trot out the mother of all entitlement programs. People complain about HMOs making their health care decisions, yet are thrilled to let the government make their health care decisions for them in return for not having to pay a premium. That just makes no sense to me.

Insurance companies, health care providers, and a set of arbitrators need to sit down and work something out that will truly make health care more affordable for everyone in the country without handing it over to the government hook line and sinker. They should be able to do that. It would not happen overnight, but it could happen. I would like to see any candidate talk about that.
Covering the coverage

Just watch it before you judge anything.  All this stuff can be easily checked for accuracy.  The question one needs to ask him/herself is:  "how accurately and fairly is my station of choice covering this stuff?"

It seems awfully odd that the 3 celebs from the alphabet stations couldn't get on that European/Middle East tour fast enough, yet McCain has been over to Iraq (and elsewhere) multiple times.   None of them have gone along.  How can that possibly be objective?  Don't all of you want objectivity?

And why no debates between the 2 yet?  McCain has been asking for months.  Is that what you really want for a potential President?

Take your voting preference out of the mix before you answer these questions to yourself.  If you allow the above, you aren't demanding true and unbiased information.  Remember, there's a big difference between a news "reporter" and one who gives his/her opinions.  There should never be a blurry line between the 2.

Convention Dishonesty

If you are watching the coverage you know much is being done...
okay, you don't believe in prayer. Couldn't you at least say you hope they will be okay? There is only so much men can do...we are talking a huge storm on a town below sea level.

What a nasty attitude.
full coverage for how much
x
This was expected right after the convention, will change shortly I'll bet. nm
.
On teleprompter at Convention, they had nuclear spelled as newclear
so she would pronounce it correctly! Unfortunately, she did not have it there for Gibson interview, so she said nuculear. Pet peeve of mine.
makes if biased and

not worth reading. Kind of like getting "news" from Faux.  If you enjoy having all your misconceptions and radical opinions reinforced, you are using the right sources.  Me, I like fact-checked info that does not insist it has the One and Only Truth.

Could your post be any more biased?
There are just as many left wing smears and lies posted on the internet and just as many left wing news sources who twist the truth or only show good news of O and bad news of Mccain.

Everyone needs to research BOTH SIDES of the issues and then decide. Beware of links from ANYONE. No one is going to post a link that makes their choice look bad.

Sheesh.
Yeah? Well, almost everything else is biased for the
nm
You are reading my mind. Plus, Sen. McCain's MOTHER attended the convention. nm
x
Yep - thumb your nose at the world and defy the Geneva Convention
that ought to protect our troops to a great degree, huh? No different than Saddam. Do what you want in the name of "protecting" the "homeland." BS
ridiculous biased statement
He was a constitutional law professor for pete's sake. If there is any group trained to think on their feet, it is lawyers.   You are just making these things up with no basis..
MSNBC is the most biased of all the stations

Fox News was voted by the press to be the most fair in their reporting. They compared all the major stations and came up with an average of 40% of all reporting devoted to each side when reporting election news.

Other posters will state Fox is biased, but I have started watching that station and CNBC. I was MSNBC and the others when I need a laugh.

Yes, and condescending, biased, partisan.
nm
I figured using an article that was not biased by. . .s/m
your so-called ""liberal spin"" might hold a little more credence.  After all, the Canadians don't have a partisan agenda and are just reporting the facts.
Obama's grandmother and the media coverage

I feel very bad that she is terminally ill.  I have lost many close relatives myself and those have been the worst of times for me.

But, I feel his campaign has used this situation to his media gain.

Put it this way, if it was me and I found out my grandmother was so sick, I would have been on the first plane there (I don't have my own jet).  What if she died before he got there?  As I said, there were a few days of a delay in there where the situation has been reported repeatedly.  If she was so sick, he should have just gone.  Everyone would have understood.

There.  I said it.  Many may think it was heartless thing to say, but wouldn't you have just dropped everything and gone?

Biden could have taken on more in his absence.

Ummm, the part about raising the coverage
Did you not click on the link? It has to do with Medicaid.

I, at least, read it. Thanks for finding it.
No danger of no shows. Media coverage alone
imagine that. W being upstaged by an elite, Islamic, racist, terrorist, socialist, commie pinko Nazi.
there's no media coverage because they issued a gag order -
nm
Four libs against 1 conservative...wow....how biased can that show be...sm
...that show is a joke.
I did not think Obama was for universal health coverage... see message
I thought he was just for a coverage to be available to all people - but not mandatory to take it. Am I wrong?
Full coverage based on income for people whose...sm
employers do not offer insurance.
gee, one-sided U.S. news coverage...go figure....it's how Obama

The liberal media is biased in favor of Obama.....
Half this country believe in this so called savior, and I hold the media 90% responsible, and the ill-informed people will and are following blindly.

God help us.
It shows you have a biased opinion and a weak mind.
I'm sure the Hitler Youth loved their newsletter just as much as you hate-festering libs love your Huffington Post.

And you really need to spend a second to look up the definition of "terrorist."

If a "terrorist" was anyone who commits murder, your Saint Tiller (may his stinking corpse rot in his grave) is the prime example of a TERRORIST. 60,000 infants executed. And yet all you can focus on is your hate for anything Christian.

How pathetic.
Uninformed Obama voters....brought to you by the biased media...sm
Unfortunately, I know a lot of people who voted for Obama, several of my relatives included....and they don't know even half of the answers to these questions either. They believe exactly what the media tells them to believe (or not to believe....)
Nope. Liberally-biased media wont let him fail.
nm
If I hear liberal garbage or biased media one more time I'm gonna
puke!!!!!!  It was an interesting article, nothing more, nothing less.  Taking offense at that article is a little like gasping at straws donchathink?
I would believe Nancy Pelosi before a biased reporter who is Republican, sounds like Palin, no facts
x
Nobody's bashing you
Just because someone questions you it does not a bash make.
Who was bashing? sm
Someone pointed out, actually THREE someones, that a link was not working and you freaked out.  Now, who is overreacting here?  I tried to point out, nicely I might add, that the link was not working and you started with the only liberals could see it conversation.  At least have the good graces to admit that this whole thing is blown way out of proportion.  The link does not work.  It just doesn't. If it works for you, I am surprised as all get out, because it just does not work for me.  Settle down. Take a chill pill.  No one is bashing you for Pete's sake.
What is bashing?
Thank you for your post, however, I do not need you to clarify what is a bashing post and what is not.  Calling someone ignorant is not needed, debating is.  I have participated in many debates both in college and within the internet and honestly debating can be done without disparaging another.  Calling someone ignorant is a bash.  However, you see the world one way, others see it another.  Is not that reason enough to keep all posts and debates as kind as can be?
