You can't be selective. If you insist on putting blame for the current situation our country is in, you must put the blame on each and every person that was a part of it.

Obama, Pelosi, Reid, et al.....are set to truly burn our
constitution to ashes, as well as our flag. Obama did that in real life, too, didn't he? Stood and watched the American flag being burned?

Bushy did his fair share in some eyes, I wager.

That's nothin' compared to what the incoming regime wants to do.

Come back in a year or less, and let's see who's right on this issue, hmmm?
With the help of a whole bunch of dems...Pelosi, Reid, Franks, Dodds, Obama...

Harry Reid told McCain and Obama
to stay away for now. Administration and Congress have a system in place to handle this right now and don't want political campaign being injected into this issue.
I heard Pelosi and Reid

both say they demand a PLAN from all three before they will agree to give them any money, that they wanted full accountability and transparency.  (I had to DOUBLE-CHECK to make sure it WAS Pelosi and Reid I was hearing.)

I think this is a good idea.  Maybe if those conditions had been applied to Paulson, the Wall Street crooks would have had to toe the line a bit.  Instead, sadly, Wall Street gets a blank check, NO oversight, NO transparency, and Paulson keeps changing his mind about what to do with the money.

I don't want to see America lose GM, Ford or Chrysler.  They have the technology available to them to manufacture cars that can get 50 miles per gallon.  (I bought one in the mid 1980s.)  Maybe they need to spruce up the old ཽ Mustangs, or even the beloved ཱུ Chevies with that kind of gas mileage for those of us who can't afford the expensive hybrids they want to offer.

The main problem, though, seems to be the arrogance of the CEOs of these companies (particularly with the private jet issues).  One of these CEOs (I can't remember his name now) was asked if he would resign if it was for the good of the company, and he flatly refused and indicated there was nothing wrong with his performance.  In my opinion, the cockier their attitude, the less they may be likely to get.

The other option of bankruptcy would force restructuring, and I believe would force out the incompetent CEOs and managers, developing a viable plan and starting from scratch, while still operating and not needing to lay off so many workers.

I've known for well over a year now that we were in a recession.  I used to watch the Dow every day, did a happy dance and sang a little song (with apologies to Neil Sadaka):  "Dow, doobie do, Dow down.  Come on, Come on, Dow, doobie do, Dow down.  Goin' broke is hard to do."

I think those of us with the least noticed this trend a long, long time ago.  I realized then that until and unless the richest of the rich started to feel the "pinch," people like us would never have a chance because we were the invisible Americans.  (I guess this is the "bottom-up theory.")

In a convoluted sort of way, this might help some Americans.  I know it's going to hurt a lot of people, as well, but the less money people can spend, the more prices will be forced to go down.  That old "what the market will bear" kind of thing.  So working from the "bottom up," as Obama has mentioned, seems to go along with the way I've been thinking this for a long time now.

Regulations must be put back in place regarding Wall Street.   They all will be getting their Christmas bonuses this year -- quite hefty ones -- and you and I are paying for them.  Meanwhile, Christmas in my home is looking very bleak this year.

I read somewhere that the CEO of any company, by law, shouldn't be allowed to earn more than the President of the United States earns.

Sounds like a good place to start.

My wishes for a great evening to you all.

Murtha, Pelosi, Barney Frank, Al Franken!, ughh!.

Do you know how much credibility you lose each time you pass such trash along? I will not use my time citing passage after passage from the Quran to expose your ignorance. If you care anything at all about being taken seriously, you will take a little time to actually read the Quran, which is a Holy Book, before you trash it. When you do thi, you make Christians look really ugly.
Team McCain should include any and all who
proliferating these messages. From our own forum, we can see that there are plenty of nationalist nut jobs, rabid racists and pious patriots out there who are not able to make the connection between hate speech, violence and assassinations. This can only lead us into the necessity for swift, tight and hopefully harsh enforcement of hate crimes in the future. I hope they make tougher laws regarding hate speech along the way.
Yeah, and yesterday Harry Reid said if McCain...
didn't support the fix it wouldn't pass. He wanted his support yesterday, today he doesn't. Harry Reid is a joke.

Obama's Nancy Pelosi Problem

Only 2 excerpts posted here. Read the whole article. Interesting. This may have been posted before and if so, I'm sorry to repeat it.

"...Pelosi has also embraced—even encouraged—her role as Republican enemy No. 1. GOP leaders know better than to go after Obama, whose approval ratings still float around 70 percent. According to Rasmussen, Pelosi is at about 35 percent. "She believes in the president and is willing to take any punches she needs to for him," says a Democratic leadership aide.

But Pelosi isn't taking those shots without getting something in return. In ways that have not always pleased the White House, the Speaker has made it clear to the president that when it comes to House business, he has to go through her. "We are an independent branch of government," she has said repeatedly. Though Pelosi's office denies it, an administration official tells NEWSWEEK that the Speaker asked to be informed whenever the White House contacts a Democratic House member. She also wants to know what the conversation was about...."

Yes...this is the same Harry Reid who took to the microphones...
and stated to the world the war in Iraq was lost. Sorry, but he is a wingnut. The day before McCain went back to Washington, Harry Reid was saying if McCain did not back the "bailout" it would not pass. Then McCain goes to Washington to find out first hand what was going on before signing off on anything, and THEN Reid tells him go away we don't need you. The man would not have any idea HOW to put his country first (Reid). He can't even put his constituents first.
Looks like Harry Reid is trying to run things again

Such a jerk! I truly hope the O can out manuever him. He's worse than Pelosi and Barney Fife put together.

FLASHBACK: Dem Senate Leader Harry Reid: 'Our Federal Wallet Stretched To Limit By Illegal Aliens Getting Welfare'

'Even worse, Americans have seen heinous crimes committed by individuals who are here illegally'

August 5, 1993

The Office of Sen. Harry Reid issued the following:

In response to increased terrorism and abuse of social programs by aliens, Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) today introduced the first and only comprehensive immigration reform bill in Congress.

Currently, an alien living illegally in the United States often pays no taxes but receives unemployment, welfare, free medical care and other federal benefits. Recent terrorist acts, including the World Trade Center bombing, have underscored the need to keep violent criminals out of the country.

Reid's bill, the Immigration Stabilization Act of 1993, overhauls the nation's immigration laws and calls for a massive scale-down of immigrants allowed into the country from approximately 800,000 to 300,000.

The bill also changes asylum laws to prevent phony asylum seekers. Reid said the U.S. open door policy is being abused at the expense of honest, working citizens.

We are a country founded upon fairness and justice, Reid said. An individual in real threat of torture or long-term incarceration because of his or her political beliefs can still seek asylum. But this bill closes the door to those who want to abuse America's inherent generosity and legal system.

Reid's bill also cracks down on illegal immigration. The 1990 census reported 3.3 million illegal aliens in America. Recent estimates indicate about 2.5 million immigrants illegally entered the United States last year.

Our borders have overflowed with illegal immigrants placing tremendous burdens on our criminal justice system, schools and social programs, Reid said. The Immigration and Naturalization Service needs the ability to step up enforcement.

Our federal wallet is stretched to the limit by illegal aliens getting welfare, food stamps, medical care and other benefits often without paying any taxes.

Safeguards like welfare and free medical care are in place to boost Americans in need of short-term assistance. These programs were not meant to entice freeloaders and scam artists from around the world. Even worse, Americans have seen heinous crimes committed by individuals who are here illegally, Reid said.

Specific provisions of Reid's Immigration Stabilization Act include the following:

-- Reduces annual legal immigration levels from approximately 800,000 admissions per year to about 300,000. Relatives other than spouse or minor children will be admitted only if already on immigration waiting lists and their admission does not raise annual immigration levels above 300,000.

-- Reforms asylum rules to prevent aliens from entering the United States illegally under phony asylum claims.

-- Expands list of felonies considered aggravated felonies requiring exclusion and deportation of criminal aliens. Allows courts to order deportation at time of sentencing.

-- Increases penalties for failing to depart or re-entering the United States after a final order of deportation order. Increases maximum penalties for visa fraud from five years to 10 years.

-- Curtails alien smuggling by authorizing interdiction and repatriation of aliens seeking to enter the United States unlawfully by sea. Increases penalties for alien smuggling.

-- Adds alien smuggling to the list of crimes subject to sanctions under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. Expands the categories of property that are forfeited when used to facilitate the smuggling or harboring of illegal aliens.

-- Clarifies that a person born in the United States to an alien mother who is not a lawful resident is not a U.S. citizen. This will eliminate incentive for pregnant alien women to enter the United States illegally, often at risk to mother and child, for the purpose of acquiring citizenship for the child and accompanying federal financial benefits.

-- Mandates that aliens who cannot demonstrably support themselves without public or private assistance are excludable. This will prevent admission of aliens likely to be dependent on public financial support. This requirement extends to the sponsor of any family sponsored immigrant.

-- Increases border security and patrol officers to 9,900 full-time positions.

END

Somehow, I think it's going to backfire on Harry Reid.

Will this include the dems who

Listening to Harry Reid/Chris Dodd news conference...

I don't know how they can stand up there and lie through their teeth like that...blaming the White House and Republicans for this financial debacle.  They know that is a lie.  They know, especially Chris Dodd, was central to this.  Also mentioned Barney Frank.  Good grief.  The hypocrisy is staggering.  They should be talking about getting us out of this mess....just yesterday they were saying don't play the blame game.  Telling McCain not to politicize it while they are politicizing it.  That man makes my skin crawl.

And saying there was a "deal" and McCain blew it up.  The only "deal" was among senators...the only house person present could not negotiate.  He just had to listen.  If they had the plan and had gone to the house with it, then the house would have blocked it there and hours if not days would have been wasted.  Amazing the gall of some folks.  Ridiculous!!!

Why can't they all stop the political posturing and just fix this mess.  The House is only reacting to the onslaught of emails from their constituents saying protect us here, we don't like this carte blanche 700 billion.  I for one am GLAD at least the Republicans in the house said whoa wait just a minute here.

Excuse me, but you will not dictate whether or not I include articles in my post.

I post articles here in order to encourage a debate about the articles.  In your limited Israel-is-always-right-and-anyone-who-questions-that-is-worthy-of-a-rabid-attack attitude, you can't see that and once again wish to control everything, even how people communicate with each other.

All you want to do is tear down, not build anything.  I gave my reasons for posting this article.  In those reasons I expressed some skepticism about Hezbollah's sincerity.  Instead of offering an intelligent response to those reasons, you once again slammed the door of dialogue and showed that your abilities to communicate are so limited that all you can do is berate and insult.  To call me anti-American only highlights your ignorance.  I am absolutely pro-American, and I'm very fearful where President Bush is leading us.  It's the duty of every American to question what he or she sees as failures or inadequacies in the administration that is in power regardless of party affiliation.  I felt the same way during the Clinton administration, and I feel the same way now.

If I were to come on here and say that Hezbollah is rebuilding Lebanon and now the Bush administration wants to compete with them, I would get responses that demand I provide my source, and rightly so.  That is the reason I post the entire article itself.  I want to gauge if it brings the same questions to the minds of other (repeat once again) LIBERALS as it does to me.

You're free to have your opinion of me, but you come off as pompous and controlling, demanding that everyone bow down and kiss Israel's feet.  The mere suggestion that Israel may be even slightly wrong elicits anger and rage from you, and you have shown that repeatedly.

No, you are not obligated to engage in debate with anyone here, but don't whine and complain that you're unable to when someone offers you the opportunity.  Your failure to do so when invited only proves how angry and full of rage you are.

For the record, I have never said you were sent to shut down the board.  It's laughable to even imagine you have the power to do that.  You are no more important or influential than I am or than any other poster on this board is.  Get over yourself already.

And, no, I have no idea which sentence of the original article you find disturbing.  I personally found several of them disturbing, but I refuse to engage in any guessing games with you.

Am I paranoid?  I sure am these days.  I'm pro-peace and I'm living in a country run by a President who is trigger happy and who has done nothing but incite the world.

If looking at Israel objectively is anti-Israel according to your definition, then so be it.  You said previously on this board that just because Israel didn't bother to send any troops to Iraq didn't mean they're an ally.  Please enlighten me.  With the BILLIONS of dollars we give Israel every year, along with weapons, we are definitely an ally to Israel.  Please explain how Israel is an ally to us.  Is it because they grace us with their agreement to take our money and then spy on us?  (I could post a number of articles regarding the spying, but since you don't like it when I do that, feel free to Google it on your own.)  What have they done for us in return?

I have always believed Israel was the underdog in the Middle East and have always favored them.  This is the first time I have ever questioned their actions.  We here in America still have freedom of thought and speech, whether you like it or not.  You know nothing of me, including how I believe.  Your assessment of me is not only wrong, it's absurd and only proves how you interact with people who disagree.  I am very relieved that you are not representative of all Israelis, as it gives me a small sense of hope.

I doubt your sincerity in stating that I'm not worth the time to answer, considering all the time you spent doing just that.  Another example of your hypocrisy.  No doubt you will waste your time once again responding to this with more hatred and insults, only this time I will let you have the last word, since you are now no longer worth the time it takes to respond.

My vote is based on issues, -include character.nm

Frank/O'Reilly

I was cheering that Bill is BACK!  I've been fit to be tied over his lingering lethargy for the last period of months, and have written to complain, too.

There's a lot more on the web about Barney Frank and how filthy he is (in more ways than 1) this whole thing.  He should've been put in jail along with Chris Dodd and Palsen, etc.  Barney Frank's former lover worked for this outfit before they split many years ago.  I've read so much on it that I don't recall which place I read it, but obviously you won't find any of this investigative stuff on the driveby channels.  Even FNC doesn't put some stuff out there, which ticks me off.  But I find it, anyway between the conservative blogs, sites, talk radio, etc.  And these sources can be easily checked, so the libs can throw all the hissy fits they want.  If they honestly think it's okay to give literally ANY party a free pass just b/c it has your letter or preference behind it, that's just nuts!  I'm dying to clean out the RINOs in "my" party.  They don't belong there.

Know that. That's my name for Barney Frank.
Kinda fitting, I think.
proposed tax policies which include granting rebates to most US workers.

That statement jumped out at me.

Barney Frank is a big culprit in this...

however, it is the HOMEOWNERS responsibility to READ YOUR CONTRACT. Geesh people, the lenders did loan to those they knew couldn't pay, but the people who bought a $300,000 home making $50,000 cannot be excused, they too bear responsibility. Anyone facing foreclosure now who gets bailed out should never be allowed to own another home without 20% or more CASH downpayment. We make our mortgage payment on time every month, add extra to the principal, have never been late, have never taken out a HELOC or a second mortgage and yet we are expected to help those out who probably shouldn't have bought a home in the first place.

Barney Frank (D) is the one who several years ago pushed the mortgage lenders to lend to EVERYONE so all could have homes. Read the Boston Globe Op-Ed piece by Jeff Jacoby for a good explanation.

This has absolutely nothing to do with being instructed in English.

Sounds like the teacher is foisting her principles and ideas on youngsters, which she has no right to do. It's none of her business who and who was not born out of wedlock. She has no right to tell youngsters to get married and stay married, that's none of her business either. She has no right to tell a youngster to take a job and keep it, no matter what the pay. I'm wondering how old this teacher is.

Write a letter of complaint to the Board of Education, stating the above and ask them what this has to do with English instruction.

She's not a morals counselor, she's supposed to be a teacher of English.

Maybe the ACLU would be interested. You never know. Can't hurt to ask.

It that was my kid, I'd be in the teacher's face big time.

BUT, Barney Frank is to blame for the corrupt government interference in mortgages and forcing banks to loan to people who by no means had any business trying to buy a home!!

Barney Frank has been in Congress since 1981. He has been the head of the Financial Services Committee and has been in charge of pushing all these government regulations onto banks.....

Dem members of the Banking and Finance Committee are wholly responsible. John McCain cosponsored a bill in 2006 and described this exact scenario, as did Allen Greenspan and John Snow (treasury secretary). The Dems killed it in committee. Voted to a man against it. And here we are. Nice try...no cigar (no pun intended). This is one that you can't lay on the Republicans. The facts do not support you on this one. No matter how much you deny it. And deny it you will. You can't help yourself.

Between McCain and Obama

Do you think either candidate is more "real" than the other? Is one of them truly a "what you see is what you get" sort of person, or is one of them liable to turn tail and be the opposite of what we see now?

Thoughts, opinions, comments?

I had hoped to include Hillary in my list, but I guess that won't be necessary now. Bummer.

Obama/McCain
I think this whole politics thing is amusing.   I believe people are fed up with the politics of the White House and where this administration has brought us in 8 years, Iraq, threatening Iran, many enemies in other nations who used to be friends, etc.  Obama is accused of not knowing much and McCain of being too old to run.   I think maybe both are true.  I am waiting for a debate between these two men to see if I will even bother to vote, because in MHO all politicians will lie to get where they want in office.   All I do know is that this country is going in the wrong direction and needs to change quickly.    That is why I believe a woman should be in the White House.  No Hillary did not win, but there needs to be a strong woman in there to run the country and straighten this horrible mess out, which includes global warming, health care, aide for elderly and food for the poor and help for the poor.  We need to concentrate on our country more to help the poor/sick/elderly, and stop the oil companies from making such huge profits while we decide on food or gas for the week.
Obama vs McCain
Not in any way to make light of John McCain's service to this country.  If being a Viet Nam POW qualilfies anyone to be president, maybe my husband should consider running.  No?  Why not?  He has the "qualifications."  We are, or should be, electing a leader of this great nation, not a war hero.  Perhaps J. McCain has integrity and other qualities but I see nothing that makes me want to see him be our next leader.  I can say the same about Obama.  My personal opinion, we don't even have a candidate that I can support as the lesser of the evils.  Having always been registered a Democrat, I  have changed my registration to Independent.  McCain will bring us 8 more years of George W. Bush and we can't afford it.  Obama will bring us........well, who knows?  I believe his slant is more toward African-Americans rather than plain old every day AMERICANS.  I don't care what color he is, if I really believed he would turn our economy, energy, SS, Welfare and the list goes on, around I would vote for him in a New York minute.  Unfortunately I think he is saying what the American people want to hear and McCain..........well, his platform seems to be all about HIM and the time he spent as a POW. <sigh>
Obama/McCain
Take away McCain's military service...no more or less than thousands of other men who are not running for office and thus usually don't even like to talk about their war experience.... and there is not a whole lot of difference in the two men.  BOTH have an agenda and NEITHER has anything to do with putting country first any more than George W. Bush (or Bill Clinton) had an agenda that put country first.  Otherwise, we wouldn't be in this mess.  Well...maybe all of them would put country first right after themselves and their cronies.
Obama, no McCain, no Obama, no McCain

That is how I have been going over the last couple months.  I just don't know any more and frankly I'm getting tired of it.  I voted for Obama over Hillary, then was a strong supporter of Obama.  Heard some stuff I didn't like so I switched to McCain, then heard some stuff and switched back to Obama, now with the economic crisis and what the democrats have done, I am looking towards McCain again.  Let me explain why (please take pitty on me and don't flame me too bad :-), but with that said let me tell you why.

I feel that Obama can speak better than McCain.  Gotta give him credit for being an eloquent speaker, however that doesn't mean that his ideas are right for America.  I'm learning about his voting record and the programs he will be pushing for, and if I wanted to live in the type of economy Obama wants if he is elected I mind as well move to Cuba or another country that is socialized.  Yes he understands our economy but he's making all the wrong decisions and we are going to be further in debt.  I just found out today that 700B dollars is not a figure they need.  They made that up out of thin air.  They need close to a trillion dollars, but they were afraid if they ask for a trillion it will raise suspicion so they picked 700B out of thin air.  And that money will be pocketed by them and then they'll need more.  Kucinich said today where do you think we're going to get 700B from?  We'll get it from banks.  And we'll give it to banks.  And then more faux money and debt and loans will go out and we will not be any better.  And this is what Obama is going to approve.  Obama does not care about people like you and me.  He is for the 1% of the rich (him and his friends).  I don't think he is qualified to make any decisions about our economy.  And Pelosi and Franks should be fired on the spot!  We should remember as a democratic congresswoman pointed out that we have enemies both foreign AND domestic.  That means here in our country, and as far as I can see they are the democratics that are destroying our economy.  NOT ALL DEMOCRATS.  I wanted to make sure I made that clear.  There are plenty good democrats who know this bill is wrong and are voting agaist it - good for them, but there are the other ones (along with some republicans) who are out for themself.  We need a strong leader to lead us in the direction of bringing our economy back up and I believe that person is John McCain.

Second, I don't feel safe with what Obama is proposing to sit down with our enemies and have a nice big group hug and everything will be all better.  That's not the way it works and McCain understands that.  I feel safer with McCain in there on foreign policies and the ability to keep our country safer.

Biden - Don't know much about him except he's been in the senate a long time, which is good because Obama is fairly new so he would be big help.  Personally I like Biden, so have no quams with him.  I think he can put his foot in his mouth enough if you get him talking long enough.  It also doesn't help that he was even saying Obama is not qualified to be president, but time will tell.

Palin.  She's better than a lot of people are giving her credit for.  I know your probably saying pleeese, but put your hatred towards her aside.  She has a lot to learn, but so does Obama.  He's had an 18-month lead on her, and with help she is learning fast. I heard the leader of Pakistan tonight and he said after meeting with her she was intelligent and he thinks if McCain and Palin are elected she will do just fine.

I like her resume and knowlege of the economy and plans for getting us back on the right track better than Obama's.  BTW - I did watch one of her interviews and she did quite well.  She was very intelligent and articulate in what she was saying (completed full sentances throughout the whole interview, finished her thought processes, etc), but then again she was being interviewed by someone who treated her with respect and didn't try to pull any of the "gotcha's", or look down at her cross-eyed like Couric did.  Couric has the interview skills of a beanpole, so don't know why anyone even watched it.

I am looking forward to the debate on Thursday.  I know a lot of you have already got it in your minds that she has already lost the debate and that is unfortunate.  I am anxious to hear Biden talk.  I do like him and had wished he had won the nomination over Obama.

My feeling on Palin is that given a chance and good mentors she will do just fine as VP and I always remember our founding fathers didn't have half the experience she does and they made this country great in the beginning.  Now politics is just filled with lawyers, crooks and liars.

So...if Obama and Biden win I won't be crying, and if McCain and Palin win I will be fine too.
