My understanding (sm)

My understanding is that his name was not on the ballot in MI because he did not want it on the ballot.  Anyway, you would have to research that further.  I can't remember the reasoning behind that.

About the FL and MI delegates, I think the reason for the meeting is because the party understands that they will need those voters come November.  There were something like 2 million votes cast, so they don't want to push those people aside.  It could come back to haunt them.  Also, my understanding is that what the candidates agreed to regarding FL and MI was not to campaign in those states, or not to campaign heavily, and I think they stood by that agreement.

As far as legends in their own mind and all of that, I don't agree.  Bill Clinton is loved by many, whether we agree or disagree - it's a fact.  I think that is true for most US presidents.

Thanks for understanding
I'm glad someone understands what I'm saying.

I'm also saying I support Obama but I don't support congress. I don't think congress is working for the best of the American people, they are working for what is best for them.

If in a couple months or so we get out of this I will gladly come on the board and say how wrong I was, but if we don't and it keeps getting worse I will say so.

P.S. - Can't you support Obama without supporting the crooked democratic politicians? (I already don't support crooked republican politicians).
My understanding is

that these contractual bonuses are based on individual or department performance, not company performance overall.

If a sales person or department manager agrees to a base salary and the rest of  his compensation to be bonuses based on sales figures or some other measure of performance, then meets/surpasses those figures, the company is obliged to honor that contract, regardless what other departments or the company as a whole does.

If my MTSO offers a bonus for surpassing a line production figure, what justice is there to withholding that from me because the sales department is not signing enough new accounts, the IT department is not resolving technical problems, the billing or payroll department is making too many errors - again - etc.?

If a company as a whole is failing everybody eventually loses.  But individuals who are performing as agreed by contract should at least receive the compensation they have earned.  Change the rules later, not in the middle of the game.

From my understanding....(sm)

No, they didn't get put into the closet.  As far as relationships go, they were more worried about social status than gender.  There is a ton of literature on these relationships, but very little about them being shunned, which leads me to the conclusion that it was either overlooked, accepted, or most likely just not an issue.

As far as Sodom and Gomorrha go, well you can call it the hand of God, or you can call it a volcano.  I tend to go with the latter.  However, it is interesting to note that the word "sodomy" originated from "Sodom" (derived from traditional christian usage).

What part of this are you not understanding

I just read a bunch of posts below and am not disturbed, but maybe dismayed is a better word.  Whether you trust Obama or not because of his policies, voting record, political life, or whatever is your perogative (sp?), but to incorrectly be making statements not based on anything but milicious rumors spread around leads readers to believe the writer is a biggot and just does not want a black man (which I should state once more 1/2 black, 1/2 white) in the white house.  I have no doubt if more of the white race came out and he looked more white than black a lot of this would not be surfacing.

First - Obama is NOT muslim.  You can think all you want and hope it to be true but what part of the facts don't you understand.  How many times does he have to repeat he is a Christian.  Always has been.  Raised in a Christian home, white grandparents, white mother, went to catholic school, attended a Baptist church, married in a church (not Moslim), children baptised in a church.  To say he is a muslim is like saying McCain belongs to KKK after all he's a white dude.  Pullease.  Sure, his father was a muslim when he married Obama's mother but that's where it stops.  Obama never studied the muslim religon or went to muslim services.  My parents are catholics but I was not raised catholic and am not catholic.  His mother later remarried someone from Indonesia and Obama attended a catholic school.  Get your facts straight.  He never went to a muslim school or studied muslim studies and he is not muslim.  So what if the muslims like him, so do the Christians, Jews, Mormoms, Baptists, and many other religions!

Second of all on the flag thing.  Obama's plane has the American flag on it, are you upset because the flag is not so huge it covers the plane from one end to the next?  There's a flag there!  Also, just because he doesn't have an american flag plastered all over the place on everything does not mean he is not "American".  Have you seen him pledge to a flag of another country?  No, he pledges to the American flag!  As for the picture that he is standing not with his hand over his heart.  I can't tell you how many times I've said the pledge of allegience and I didn't have my hand over my heart every time.  Doesn't mean I'm not American.  He's not trying to get rid of the American flag, but for pete's sake it doesn't need to be plastered in every square inch of empty space.

The poster who is not well informed about Obama's religion and trying to scare people into believing he's muslim when he's not is just plain wrong.  It doesn't "ruffle any feathers" because you are just wrong.  You may not want to "sugar coat any facts" but first you need to get the facts straight.  People don't "hate" republicans, and certainly not enough that they would want "anything" in there.  You could always put that statement on the other foot "People just hate the democrats so much they'll elect an old senile person to fill the position just as long as a democrat doesn't get in there".  That excuse just doesn't sit well.

I'm no "Obama-lover" and I won't be voting for him but not because of malicious rumors on the internet or false statements made by the republican side.  I'm basing my decision on his voting records and other issues that I don't agree with him on, certainly not from anything I get off the internet.  You know there are people on both sides who hate the other candidate so much they are posting fall information, but for anyone to spread this...all I can say is "shame on you".

Well, thanks for finally understanding what I was saying.
Hitler maybe, but I'd have to think about that one for a while.
my understanding of the situation...
My understanding is that Obama says this is a practice that can be regulated at the state level. The federal government is just making sure that abortion stays legal and then the individual states decide how far their state will go with it.
From my understanding, the jobs

created would only be temporary. Don't forget, road and bridge construction only lasts in the summer in the northern states, and when those road and bridge jobs are done, what's next?

The money being doled out for infrastructure is definitely not enough. There are many, many roads and bridges that have to be built/rebuilt in the country and any one of them would cost $1 million and up.  PA is getting $2.7M for roads. Is that going to take care of the roads? Doubt it. Headlines recenty in our paper stated PA was going to get $6B. I checked the charts and don't see where he gets that figure.

What's missing here is your understanding of this thread....
it is about infants born alive after botched abortions and left to die without care. Partial birth abortion is when they turn the baby around in the womb, let all but the head be born, then stick a needle in base of skull and suck the brain out to collapse the skull and make sure the baby is dead before it comes out, to avoid that pesky being born alive thing that proabortion people so hate.

At least get your facts straight and know what you are denying before you deny it.

And yes, he does support partial birth abortion. He supports removing the ban on that heinous procedure. His wife sent out a campaign letter while he was running for senate in Illinois that said that very thing.

Sheesh.
I'm not understanding the meaning of your post
Actually it almost sounds like something Hemmingway would write. HA HA. Anyway...just confused by the post. Are you talking about the record breaking snowfalls and bone chilling cold spells all over the world (oh so not global warming), or are you refering to the incoming president, and the last part of the post just lost me. Please explain.
Actually, it was my understanding that both arenas represent the
"war on terrorism."  So in a sense, they are both the same war, just different theaters.

Better read up on that homebuyers' tax credit, as you have zero understanding of how it works.

best ideas
Hey, i get some of my best ideas when I am "smoked into a frenzy." Sounds like fun.
Your ideas
Any idea for change is better than what we have now.  I think your idea for registration is a good one. Most people have a a birth certificate, driver's license and social security card.  If, as you said, registration was done at a central place and all 3 documents had to be presented it would do away with voter registration fraud. Going back to paper ballots might not be a bad idea too.
No, because they don't have any ideas. Just want to
It is sad that grown, supposedly adults, just want to come here and slam any and all suggestions.

I guess they wish for another 8 years of the downward spiral that Bush led is into.

It is very easy to point out others' faults and issue warning Subject line zingers, but not one person who has done this has come up with a viable alternative.
We'd have to ban you, too. Or are any ideas
Get a grip and go back and learn what this country was founded on. You obviously have ZERO idea.
prehistoric ideas
What, dear neocon, was wrong in my statement?  Not a thing..but, of course, you and your attack dogs have a certain way of disputing reality and truth, you say the same thing over and over and over and over and then attack the poster/author/lecturer, instead of dealing with the facts.  Nothing in my post was wrong, nothing.  I think you need to go back to the prehistoric age, where your ideas and beliefs are still stuck.  Nothing in this country has ever gotten done due to staying the same and being afraid to move on and progress.  Everything has gotten done in the country by progressives, people who realize with life and time, you must move on and change with the times and rethink things and adjust to the reality of the day and time.  Hey..what..hmm..oh, I think your dinosaur is growling for you, better go get him and ride back to prehistoric times..bye..bye.., sweetie..
You were not being attacked, you ideas are
You don't debate, you scream and holler and fling insults and names.
Where are you getting these erroneous ideas?

Especially about the taxation? Obama's tax plan is going to be of bigger benefit to me and everyone I know than McCain's ever could be.

"

Decisions vs ideas.
nm
Even the worst of ideas

and plans that don't and won't work can be presented eloquently and there certainly will be people dumb enough to believe that those ideas and plan will actually work.  This is all a bunch of fluff to get elected.  Obama does give hope....it is called FALSE HOPE!

NOBAMA!!!!

Good ideas, especially #2.

The "parties" are the problems.  I would also see that spending billions on crappy TV ads by the candidates wasn't done.  Instead of the ridiculous debates, how about FREE TV time where ALL qualified candidates could stand before the PEOPLE and present their agenda for change in words of 1 syllable so the PEOPLE would know where they stood.  No canned and doctored "questions."

I would have a weekly address to the PEOPLE and the Speaker of the House and what's the head of the Senate called, forget right now, would stand beside me and give account TO THE PEOPLE of what they had accomplished during the week.

Here's my not so genius ideas...LOL

First of all (even though I do believe in unions) the auto unions needs to work with them on this one.  They can't afford to re-tool and pay high wages at the same time.  At least some people who would be laid off during this time of transition could find jobs in the transition process itself.  They need to simply quit producing and selling SUVs and gas guzzlers to the general public.  They would have to continue to make available some things like trucks for businesses.  Start making electric cars for general consumption as well as fuel efficient cars.  Lower the price of cars as much as possible to undercut imports or, like you said, just stop importing them.  Then we can start on the Pickens plan of using natural gas for larger vehicles.

I'm sure Obama will be calling soon for my adivse.

You do have some good ideas
Although reading I'm thinking isn't this a little drastic? :-), but I do see your point and agree with you. This is what I would do...my brainstorming and I think it is reasonable (well maybe just some of it is reasonable)

1. Cut all politicians salaries by 25%.
2. Cut sports players and hollywood people in movies/shows by 25%.
3. All the weathiest people, lets say those who have income of half a million or more tax them at a rate of say 40% (sort of like when Bill Clinton was president but instead of taxing the middle income that outrageous tax he did, we would tax the wealthiest instead).
4. All CEO/execs of companies get a 25% salary cut.
5. Any company that is found spending bail out money on lavish parties, spas, etc, a return of the money immediatly, the company dismantled and the execs thrown in jail.

On a personal level (people like you and me). Every one should have some type of garden to be able to grow food. Our founding fathers were farmers. Why? They had to eat. Take some of the dependence off the stores (only for stuff you really can't grow or make).

Get rid of Apple computer and downsize Microsoft. Do we really need IPods and IPhones. I have a portable CD player (I bought 6 years ago) with earphones and I can hear my music just fine with that. This downloading music or whatever is just a big gimmick. I also have a cell phone I bought at radioshack and I can talk to people just fine on that. What's up with "texting". If I want to text I come home and use the computer.

Get rid of a lot of autos. Half of them are not being bought. Horse and buggy worked very well in the past and could work again too. But if you don't do that, then anyone driving around with their music playing so loud it rattles the dishes inside of the house as it passes - those people should be fined big time!

Better yet instead of cutting politician salaries by 25% do away with them. Have a representive from your own state but get rid of the whole DC congress thing. Politicians should also only be allowed one term. No 2, 3, 4 or 5 year terms. If the politicians don't work for the people they need to be fired. No more career politicians.

Every person in America should know how to feed, cloth, and protect themselves without dependence on others, and any body caught breaking into someones home should be shot on the spot - no trial. They were breaking in with the intent to steal and possibly injure or kill whowever lives there so the criminal can take what is not his/hers. Take them around the back of a building and immediately put down like the animals they are. Think of all the money we'd save not having to feed and clothe them.

Get rid of some of the TV stations. Do we really need over 400 channels of TV programs? And most of the time I still can't find anything decent to watch. I grew up in the 1960s (when TV's had tubes in the back - to this day whenever something happens to our TV I will still say, maybe there is a bad tube :-) ) But I grew up on 12 channels (except we didn't get channel 8 or 11) and I always found something entertaining to watch and when there wasn't something to watch mom taught us quilting, sewing, canning, knitting or we played a good ol fashion board game of monopoly.

I think there is too much stuff in this world people do not need.

As for taxes...we should pay, but there should be a list available of who is getting what taxes, and like when I give to charity I give to what charity I want to give to and therefore I should be able to decide which organization I want my taxes to go to. And taxes should be a flat rate. That way people who make 20,000 pay the same percentage as people who make 120,000. Unlike people like John and Teresa Kerry who paid only 6% in taxes a few years back while I paid 27%.

As for all that's going on in the country. It is very sad and depressing, but in 4 years none of us are going to care if the Mayan calendar is correct.
Discussing ideas is antagonistic?
I, personally, have been very respectful. If discussing ideas and having a dialogue with someone is antagonistic to you then I'm afraid you're in for a very difficult road in life.
His website states his ideas and how he
I was undecided until McCain picked Palin.  C'mon people - she was the mayor of a town with 9,000 people.  God forbid if something should happen to McCain - would you want her to step in.  It's Obama for me - I've always liked Joe Biden - he doesn't think he's above everyone else and even commutes to and from work like us "normal" folk.
I have some ideas about auto bailout

Let the oil companies bail them out since they directly benefited from some of the bad management decisions.

Don't bail out the companies.  Give the money to the workers for re-education, etc., while the auto companies restructure.

My first suggestion was a little cynical, but I'm not sure why the second hasn't occurred to anyone.  ...

not questioning your ideas or beliefs -
I am just wondering how is that? Are you and your husband both American? I am just being nosy and I guess you don't have to answer me if you don't want to... just curious how that happened or how it works and if it was something you chose.

What do you call a budget with no numbers, no ideas, no detail and no plan? The House Republican budget

DailyKosTV has great video from the big announcement of the GOP budget today. The big news is that there really is no GOP budget. No numbers, no ideas, no details, no plan. They are the party of "NO" -- No future:

Any ideas on how paying down too much debt could be a terrorist threat?nm

And we'd big in trouble if he did nothing.

That's where we are as a nation, between a rock and hard place.  Suck it up!

Why do you think we'd be in big trouble

if he did nothing?

On the mortgage debacle, I say let the one's who took bit off more than they could chew, fail. They put themselves in this position.

Those that have been paying their mortgages all along and are now trying to keep their homes should be helped since the prices fell so far so fast.

Bigger is not alwasy better and some people need to learn that the hard way. Home prices went too high to fast. The bubble was bound to burst. Those that bought into those inflated prices that they couldn't afford should not have done it. Look at the couple in FL. They waited and saved to buy their dream home. They wound up buying  a home that was foreclosed on for only $80K. The house had sold to someone for $235,000.

Why do people need bathrooms as large as a bedroom anyway? Whose idea was that? How long do you spend in a bathroom every day anyway? A tub as big as a swimming pool? a fire place? Terrazine(sp) tile? Subway tile? Granite counters? The cost is outrageous. We went to buy a separate shower for our extra bathroom 5 years ago. It cost $150. We went back a year later and it was up to $450. Needless to say, we still don't have a shower for our extra bathroom.

My list of people who started this housing crap are the developers, the companies who make the products that go into the homes, the real estate agents who put the price tag on the home after the developer gave their price, and the mortgage lenders/banks who pushed the bad loans.

Now I do believe she is in trouble.
She has now accused the CIA of lying to her. No one else, just her. Seriously?

Here's what I think will happen:
1. The investigation will continue and she will be proven a liar - the CIA will help out with this one, I'm sure, with documentation confirming that she knew early on everything that happened.

OR
2. The democrats will ask her to step aside, seeing her for the liability that she is, in order to put the whole nasty mess behind them and do what Obama has suggested and look forward.

Either way, if I had money, I'd bet that her political career is pretty much over. I must say, too, that it couldn't happen to a more deserving person.
I know his campaign is in big trouble.

Seems to me he thought he found something and before confirming it, he started appearing on talk shows.  At the most, he knowingly lied and wanted to tell his base what they wanted to hear.

At the least, he's reckless and sloppy in his approach to things.

I suppose the true test of his character will be if he comes clean and admits he was wrong.

Other than that, I find it increasingly difficult on a daily basis to understand why some of these politicians do what they do, both Republican and Democrat alike.

This country is in such trouble.

I will not vote for someone who wants to create more government assisted programs.  We are in deep crap now because of government spending.  That will only make our economy worse.  All of our money will be put into government programs, the spending will go up instead of down, and all the money we dish out in taxes to pay for all of this crap will most definitely not go towards our deficit.  It will only get bigger than it is now and it is HUGE right now.  There is no way that Obama can only go after rich people and tax them more.  It still wouldn't be enough to pay for all these "plans" he has.  God help us!

NOBAMA!!!

i had trouble staying with what JM was saying -
it was rambling & almost incoherent.
Media causes trouble
I think half the time it is the broadcasting of such statements that prompt people to react in such a way. It's almost like they feel it is expected, so they then act out.

Plus the whole group mentality is freaky. Look at what people do sometimes after big sports events (like college games) ... even the winners. Like a pack of dogs!
I think they have been in trouble for some time (sm)
but I think the credit freeze just topped it off.  I think there should be a loan (not a bailout), but with oversight and possibly even a controlling interest for the government.  Of course, there is no guarantee that they will change or that the government will do any better, but I don't think them filing bankrupcy is the answer.  Too many jobs are at stake.  One interesting thing though is that everyone was in a hurry to bail out the financial institutions to the tune of 700B, and yet the big 3 are under an emormous amount of scrutiny.  Michael Moore said the other night that there seems to be a difference between how you're treated depending on whether you take a shower before you go to work or if you shower after you get home from work.  So true.
Sigh. Trouble is, if they get what they ask for....
we all get it. Like I said...at least I can take comfort in the fact that I will have had nothing to do with the demise of freedom in this country as we know it. This whole thing with Joe really brought that home in a BIG way. Civil rights down the tubes.
That is their fault. They have been in trouble for
nm
We are in bigger trouble than we know

It may just be way too late for Obama to get us out of the horrible mess we are in. We are fiddling while Rome burns - I sound like Chicken Little but indeed the sky IS falling - Frightening!

...."If we can use the Baltic Dry Index (BDI) as a guide for the next 12 months of product delivery and food availability in the stores we shop in then the BDI says shelves will be virtually empty of almost every product we use each and every day. Is the BDI is wrong it will be an historic first. The BDI is used by bankers, financial experts, brokers, traders and everyone in high end finance to assess the global financial condition and the availability of products worldwide. The BDI has dropped 94% in a short few weeks which means raw materials, grains, ores, steel, iron, cement and all imported products for food manufacturing and product manufacturing even though we actually do very little of that here in the US."

No....Clinton got in trouble
for lying about his blowjob.  It is called lying under oath and it is punishable by law.
Should have saved yourself the trouble.
Your message was so juvenile and old hat, I don't know why you even posted.

Thank you for once again proving how ignorant your leftist lunatics really are.
More trouble in Iran

Iran's increasingly isolated opposition leader effectively ended his role in street protests, saying he'll seek permits for future rallies. A leading cleric demanded in a nationally broadcast sermon Friday that leaders of the unrest be punished harshly and that some are "worthy of execution."

Bettery try that again or I'll get in trouble with

Conservative starting trouble
It is obvious this is a conservative trying to start trouble on the liberal board.  Who cares what you think about Senator Clinton?  Cast your vote and lets see how the country thinks..A level headed calm thinking democrat or a rash testosterone so out of touch with reality dangerous republican.  Oprah had a show on universal health insurance a few weeks ago and a professor was on and stated that when the conservatives want to scare the people or distract from programs to benefit the people, they say it is socialism.  Well, what I want to know is, what do you call the health insurance program the Congress has?  That most definitely is government health insurance, so I guess socialism?.  Well, if it is good enough for the Congress, it is good enough for the people. What do you call the govt programs that build bridges, roads, dams, run schools, etc., etc., etc..?  Socialism?  The govt must help the people of this country.  We pay our taxes and we have a right to govt programs to better the lives of the people of America.  I am so sick of conservatives and thankfully most of America is too.
