Opened a can of worms, eh? Truth hurts, but it is TRUTH!

8 cpl is about the top out in the US MT industry. If you're making more consider yourself lucky because it just might be snatched away from you at any moment. For the 14 cent per liner, good for you! You went out and got your own accounts. Others should follow your example. As far as the "stupid" MT comment, keep in mind that she was not consistent and **often** had one excuse after another not to work, yet I could see her online and when I would ask her why she was online she would give VERY lame excuses.  Also, keep in mind that I also was the one who helped this gal out monetarily to begin with and she took advantage of my generosity.  Don't make me out to be the bad gal here just because I own a service.  The shoe could easily be on your foot.

So, NEWS FLASH, if you have an MT position that is paying more than 8 cpl, consider it a real blessing and pray that your job isn't outsourced offshore.

Not to make this political, but...
Next time you vote for the Democrats, please realize that the ACLU has their hands ALL OVER the Democratic party, and the ACLU will fight to the end for the rights of those such as child molesters.  Just Google the case about the boy in Massachusetts who was killed by a pedophile who frequented the NAMBLA website, which actually gives tips and information on how to gain access to little boys and actually condones sexual relations between men and boys.  While neither political party is perfect, I find the actions of the ACLU more of than not to be unacceptable and I don't want anything to do with them.  They used to do good work for the rights of others, they've now swung WAY too far in the other direction to the point of "stupid", especially when it comes to the rights of obvious criminals who would harm our children.
My political views
You need to take my political views with a grain of salt.  I really don't know enough about politics to even be on here running my mouth.  Furthermore, I don't hate President Bush, I do so enjoy picking on him; but I know he has a very difficult job, and I bet money he is a lot smarter than me.

political? I think this is pertaining to life
I think this turned into whether or not you spank your child not what is happening in the schools/govt.
The posts that were removed were political. (SM)
It started discussion about which President was at fault for what and political views.

Stop jumping to conclusions over a reminder.

Not political but re Senator Kennedy's OP:

Wouldn't that have been a great one to transcribe?  Not because of who it is, but just due to the type of the surgery he had--open brain surgery with intermittent wakeful testing.  I've been an MT for about 27 years, majority in acute care (now clinic--boring), and I absolutely love doing OPs.  I really enjoy doing long, complicated, interesting operative reports like I'm sure this one was.

Gruesome?  Maybe , but well wishes to the senator in any case.

I also posted on the political board, but -
I did not refer to Obama or McCain and the political side of it, I am interested more in how it is effecting us in the United States. Everyone else is posting here about their jobs and that is what I am talking about. I don't care about policies right now, I am wondering how every day life is going to change.

And, no, I am not being rude, just explaining myself.
I think she's already there on the political board, being nasty to
anyone who responds to her, for a couple of postings. I don't understand people sometimes.

Just posted on the Political Board
a long rant on this - please refer to that. But also see this website.

It's time to take a stand MTs!

Ahh, your post sounds political
Why not keep the snappy remarks to the other board? I doubt he was the original one to think this up. Get over it.
I'm not the other poster, but speaking of TV and political correctness.
I can't stand those stupid shows where the guys are just big dumb oxen that everyone belittles and puts down.  I won't watch the old TV shows where women were portrayed as ignorant either.  Especially Archie Bunker.  I see no humor in that character.  Lately, all the men on TV are gay and the women are all foulmouthed tramps.  I pretty much don't watch TV any more.  Just because you watch it on TV doesn't mean that's how society truly is, either.
Take the political banter to the Politics board.

Are we discussing talent or political persuasion?

In my unbiased opinion, I say Babs has a better singing voice.  I also think she's a good actress.  I think Celine is wonderful, as well; I just think Streisand's voice is stronger and a little better.

Sometimes subjects spill over into political issues....
It's not done on purpose, but it happens.
Posting political and offshore topics (SM)

We have specific political and offshore boards for those topics.  Please use those boards.

We are not over-monitoring.  We are trying to keep a little bit of order here.

The Main board is very busy with high traffic of other topics.  If you want to discuss offshoring or politics, please feel free to but post them on the correct boards.

LEGAL & POLITICAL ISSUES, ANALYZING ... SM
and gathering versus just reading ... hmmm.  Docs need to analyze their legal & political issues on their own time ... not mine or my family's time ... and get their S*** together before they dictate ... furthermore, when they need to save a few seconds by racing through meds & labs, not only are they compromising patient care and document accuracy, it's just plain laziness & thoughtlessness.  Of course, we should all be born to automatically know how to spell another doctor's name just because he/she knows how ... their 2-3 seconds they save in spelling is worth more than a half hour of my time having to research it.

AAMT is endorsing political candidates, oh boy, that can only mean trouble.

Posts about political topics go on the Politics board

If you are talking about President Obama's stance, action, statements concerning offshoring - it is political.  It goes on the Politics board.

If you are talking about healthcare industries and what Congress, the Senate, the GOP or other leaders are doing or not doing about - it is political.  It goes on the Politics board.

DixieDew, I don't always agree with your political views, but you're right on the money in thi

The political people knew what could happen if a hurricane hit New Orleans. sm
after 9/11 they diverted the money for the war.  One should not take money from one project to do another.  This tragedy didn't make any sense and there are some people on the political board that says its the mayor fault.  What a joke.
Let's not turn an innocent poll into a political bantering free for all.
People are allowed to post who they feel a good female role model is, however, if you want to start up political banter, take it to the Politics board.
To the poster below who equates the BIble Belt with political views
USING TWO COWS TO EXPLAIN. . .

A CHRISTIAN DEMOCRAT: You have two cows. You keep one and give one to your neighbor. Then you covet it.

A SOCIALIST: You have two cows. The government takes one and gives it to your neighbor. You form a cooperative to tell him how to manage his.

A DEMOCRAT: You have two cows. Your neighbor has none. You feel guilty for being successful. You vote people into office who tax your cows, forcing you to sell one to raise money to pay the tax. The people you voted for then take the tax money and buy a cow and give it to your neighbor. You feel righteous. Barbra Streisand sings for you.

A REPUBLICAN: You have two cows. Your neighbor has none. So?

A COMMUNIST: You have two cows. The government seizes both and provides you with milk. You wait in line for hours to get it. It is expensive and sour.

A FASCIST: You have two cows. The government seizes both and sells you the milk. You join the underground and start a campaign of sabotage which ultimately blows up the cows.

CAPITALISM, AMERICAN STYLE: You have two cows. You sell one, buy a bull, and build a herd of cows.

DEMOCRACY, AMERICAN STYLE: You have two cows. The government taxes you to the point you have to sell both to support a man in a foreign country who has only one cow, which was a gift from your government.

BUREAUCRACY, AMERICAN STYLE: You have two cows. The government takes them both, shoots one, milks the other, pays you for the milk, then pours the milk down the drain.

AN AMERICAN CORPORATION: You have two cows. You sell one, lease it back to yourself and do an IPO on the 2nd one. You force the two cows to produce the milk of four cows. You are surprised when one cow drops dead. You spin an announcement to the analysts that you have reduced your expenses. Your stock goes up.

A FRENCH CORPORATION: You have two cows. You go on strike because you want three cows. You go to lunch. Life is good.

A JAPANESE CORPORATION: You have two cows. You redesign them so they are one-tenth the size of an ordinary cow and produce twenty times the milk. They learn to travel on unbelievably crowded trains. Most are at the top of their class at cow school.

A GERMAN CORPORATION: You have two cows. You re-engineer them so they are all blond, drink lots of beer, give excellent quality milk, and run a hundred miles an hour. Unfortunately they also demand 13 weeks of vacation per year.

AN ITALIAN CORPORATION: You have two cows but you don't know where they are. While ambling around, you see a beautiful woman. You break for lunch. Life is good.

A RUSSIAN CORPORATION: You have two cows. You count them and learn you have five cows. You have some more vodka. You count them again and learn you have 42 cows. You count them again and learn you have 12 cows. You stop counting cows and open another bottle of vodka. You produce your 10th, 5-year plan in the last 3 months. The Mafia shows up and takes over however many cows you really have.

A SWISS CORPORATION: You have 5000 cows, none of which belong to you. You charge for storing them for others. If they give milk, you tell no one.

A BRAZILIAN CORPORATION: You have two cows. You enter into a partnership with an American corporation. Soon you have 1000 cows. You expropriate them. The American corporation goes chapter 11.

AN INDIAN CORPORATION: You have two cows. You worship them.

:D

Truth always hurts...
Hostility saying did not think a nurse should have some kind of background in transcribing??? That would be like my not having to have study in order to be a nurse. Stand by what I said in the first place, and you are the one talking about being "seasoned" as if 18 years made an authority. I never brought up my life, career or anything else in my post. Like I said, not anything ugly in my first post and stand behind what I said, a nurse still needs more than an RN license to transcribe. Oh, hey my husband drives an 18 wheeler. I also drive- does that mean I can drive one of those??? Double duh....
This has not always been the case, hence it hurts more. Merit raise/cost of living raise

The truth will set you free and the truth is more low level income people w/o education or proper
skills to keep up their home or train their children live in trailer homes and low income housing. If that sets you off, maybe you should not visit these threads or read the posts regarding others viewpoints on trailer parks. They have zoning laws against them in many communities because they draw undesirable people are not particularly pleasing to the community as a whole, bringing property values down. If you have issues with this, seek out the government in various communities and have them change the laws. Fact is fact and you cannot dispute these facts.
I know it hurts, but it hurts a lot worse when you

don't have a million(s) dollar salary and you have children involved that will be emotionally damaged for life regardless.

I'm not bitter, he was abusive and I didn't like him anyway after a while. It was over 20 years ago, but my 2 kids (notice I said "my" and not "our") still have emotional issues after years of counseling.

Hey,  I learned how to make a can of "Spaghetti-O's" feed 3. And when the "father" had to start actually paying court ordered child support, he cut off ties with my kids.

Been with my second hubby for 13 years and he's a great guy. He gets the Father's Day cards.  If he cheats and I find out, he won't have a leg to stand on. Not because I'll take the chainsaw to him, but because I got wise years ago and everything is in MY NAME.

"As God is my witness, I will NEVER go hungry again!"

The truth stings sometimes and I congratulate MTStars for having the kahoonas to post truth.
Tired of being lied to. I'm a big girl and can handle the truth. Why can't you?
Okay, enough with the bickering...

48K, 40 hours per week, acute care, incentive after 1200 lines

To everyone bickering!
All I can say is don't we have better things to do than bicker back and forth?  Just because one person isn't offended by not getting anything doesn't mean that someone else won't be.  We all have different things that offend us.  If the original poster felt like she was slapped in the face with the $5 gift card, fine!  That is how it made her feel.  Her feelings don't make it right or wrong and not everyone has to agree with her feelings.  Get a life and quit bickering about someone's feelings.
re: tired of bickering kids

Lordie you remind my of the not so good ol days...kids...

Selective hearing or NOT hearing you...well, I did learn that paybacks are heck does work.  When they ask you a question or demanding your attention, just ignore them, till they get really frustrated  "MOM, are you dea" was a good one...then i politely tell them...hmmmmmmmmm see how it feels?!

Bickering/arguing/not my turn...mine got so bad that I got a big egg timer, every time they started their crap, I turned the timer on until they stopped, showed them how much time they had wasted with this not my turn crap., kept a running tally for each day.THEN, when they wanted to go to a movie/mall or anywhere it took mom's wheels to get...we just put the timer on and made sure we did NOT leave until the same amount of time they had wasted all week....boy did that crap shorten in no time.this worked wonders, but..I feel for you, wish I could say it gets better but so far...NOT..lol

bickering sons, love your idea

Isn't it just amazing that teens will go to all lengths to help a friend, but you ask for help w/chores and it's like you pulled out their wisdom teeth with tweezers!  Needed help cleaning carpets...they were probably growing the cure to cancer after all the kids tromping in my house...told them ALL/friends and kids that they WERE GOING to do most of the work with the cleaner..."Oh cool...OMG, you could literally see black and white from all the areas they missed..."why do WE have to do it"...Well,  I could probably pick up each of yours DNA all over and for sure, MY friends do not track crap all over.

Another issue is how most adults in our community/teachers, neighbors etc, tell me just what great kids/nice polite/helpful I have and i find myself RE-introducing myself and connecting to my kids...yep, that's who they're talking about..and I guess they wipe off that nice attitude when they hit the front door....guess I should'nt complain on that one.  Better than getting nasty complaints about them

All this petty bickering and it's not even the MedQ board! oh my!

There are good points and there are bad and ugly points. Unfortunately, the bad and ugly get
deleted.  Just the other day there was info and it seems to be more positive.  Like any MT job, some love it, some hate it.  But, having been employed there, the bad parts are/were true.   The changes sound great but not great enough to make me change my mind about working for them.  I do say she pays well for the area.  She is one of the rare business owners who actually started out as an MT..I think that makes a big difference in pay.
You don't have to believe, the truth is the truth. I, too, have seen with my own two eyes and ha

years experience as an MT.  I say misfortune because MTs with this much experience usually have gigantic egos and feel like they've "seen it all and done it all."  They simply don't make mistakes.  Not possible, no way.  This particular MT became irate with me.  She actually threw her 20+ years experience in my face and said "I've been doing this for over 20 years, I think I know what I'm doing!"  It was painfully obvious, she did not have a clue.  She'd been doing it wrong for 20 years and no one ever told her, so she thought she was right.

I had another MT with 10 years experience call me to scream at me and hung up on me when I tried to explain her errors to her.

The plain truth is, some people can't take criticism whether it be constructive or destructive.  They don't like to be wrong or be told their wrong.  Egos get in the way.  We are all guilty of letting our egos get in the way from time to time, but in this field, you need to be willing to admit you're wrong and you need to be able to accept criticism gracefully and give criticism diplomatically.

As an editor, I encourage MTs to let me know if they disagree with any corrections I've made.  I am happy to provide MTs with my reference materials and resources.  I am happy to admit when I am wrong and I am happy to say that I make mistakes too.  Just don't try to tell me that an MT with 16 years experience can't possibly be making terminology mistakes - she can and probably has in the past and will again in the future.

Work for a company in a state that has no state income tax
I think there are 3 or 4 out there (Florida, Texas, and a few others.)  Then you really avoid the tax situation.
So sorry, I know how it hurts

It hurts a bit - think of something else...
I have the ubiquitous shoulder tattoo (Pegasus) and I also have a custom design on the soft, inner part of my forearm. I like that one best because I can see the whole thing without getting into contortions. It has been touched up one time - the color red fades over time. Yeah, things change as you age, so what?

I got both after age 50 (over 10 years ago) and have never regretted it.
Never hurts to try!
I just got some the cover-your-whole-ear noise canceling headphones. They are Logitech and I got them at Staples for about 55.00. They are the best ones I have ever used. I got some stethoscope style ones not too long ago at Transcription Gear.com and they did not last more than a month. I did not even try to take them back though, I just hate returning things I buy on the internet.
Never hurts to ask. All they can do is say no!
nm
it hurts me too, but --sm
it would not necessarily be that way, the us vs them factor, if someone from either *side* had not criticised in the first place. It is what I call *defense mode*. what ever happened to the saying *if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all?* Why can't we all just get along rather than starting a war over simple *words*? just a thought.
It never hurts to ask. nm

that hurts to look at
Please never clatch two numerals together like that for no other reason than it hurts the eyes.
cherrypicking hurts EVERYONE sm
you are supposed to be part of a team! Do you even know or care what that means?  As the other poster stated, SHAME ON YOU!
It never hurts to try. It's actually, I thought,
easy to learn and I really liked it. Although, bear in mind, it has a language all it's own but once you catch on, you will do fine. Give it a shot. You have other transcription experience so that would be a big plus as well.
