Vacation and benefits - really!

Is there really a company out there that provides long-term benefits such as insurance AND VACATION and that will be around when we get ready to use it  Just wondering if anyone out there really has any benefits doing at home MT work.

RE: Vacation and benefits - really!
This will take you directly to the home page of the company I work for, and you can click on careers, and it lists the benefits they offer: http://www.transcendservices.com/corporate/
What if you are employee.. but no benefits, no paid vacation
nm
Absolutely. It's a real job, benefits, vacation, holidays. Go girl! NM

Probably because she needs a job, it's paying, includes benefits.

What are you paying your MTs? If you're only paying 7 or 8 cpl

and expecting extremely experienced MTs, forget it. You're not going to get it.  If, however, you're willing to pay 9 or more cpl then you will find what you're looking for. There ARE experienced MTs out there who will work their fingers to the bone IF they are compensated well and treated with respect.

Great idea and they're pretty cheap, too!
Only about $20 or $30 at Wal-Mart.  You're one smart cookie!
Vacation time

I am an IC.  Contracted with just 1 drs. office since they generate plenty of work.  There is another at home IC, who works there, too.  We have been backed up quite a bit lately, so they hired another IC to work prn.  My question to any other IC's out there is--Do you ever take family vacations?  How do you accomplish this?  Do you tell them your office will be closed for a week? What do they do about work while you are gone?  What usually happens to me is they punish me the week before by giving me extra work.  While I am gone, they just pour all of my work on the other IC and she gets backed up, and then when I returned I have twice as much work to do.  I feel like--why did I bother taking vacation?!  I get burned out prior to vacation, and after returning to work I get burned out again from trying to catch up.  I mentioned today that we need someone to cover when we, the 2 IC's take vacation.  I was told the other IC "never takes time off" with a smirk.  I felt like saying, "Well, I am sorry, but I have a family and a life and it doesn't revolve around this office!!!!"  Got any advice?  I am so burned out and need some time off!!!!

is not giving her time/money away cheap, why

can now donate your vacation time
The IRS will now let you donate your vacation time to the evacuees.  They will convert it to cash and you can deduct it at the end of the year.  For those of you feeling so generous, this is for you.
doctors vacation time
I am an IC for a clinic. I really like it but for one thing.
I have to wait around all day to see if he is going to upload that day. I have to work some at night and during the day so it's not like I can plan to do anything at all because I don't know when I will have a report. Also with holidays. On Thanksgiving he stated that he was going to be gone but the people in the office wouldn't/couldn't verify so I was kind of stuck waiting to see if he was going to be in.

Is this normal? Does anybody have it set up so they know when their doctor is going on vacation? I really don't think it is too much to ask for.

Thanks
My docs seem to take vacation time...sm

every other week.  I have never seen doctors take off so much as these docs I type for.  I work for a national and assigned my own docs and these two are always taking weeks off.  I so need another part time job but do not want to waste my time on a horrid account where I will NOT make any money.

I'd hire an attorney and do a quickie divorce. They're cheap and well worth it.
If it's uncontested the attorney can help you amicably sort through what needs to be split and do it fairly and according to the laws of your state. This will avoid potential problems later.
Yeah, donate your vacation time
A neighbor of a relative of mine, being the nice person that he is, set up a booth at the Astrodome for temporary work as a plumber for $15 an hour.  No one came.    Go ahead, give up your vacation.  Not me.
On vacation for the first time in 2+ years - YAHOO!

Bummer. I know those things aren't cheap. Better luck next time!
nm
They are getting exactly what they're paying for.
.
I am with you..When I was hired I was very up front about wanting vacation time...sm
during the holidays. I told my boss when hired 1 1/2 years ago that I would be taking the last two weeks of December off. I have four kids and they are always off for Christmas break at that time. Also, my husbands company has a two week shut down at that time, so I take it also. We have done this for about 9-10 years now. It makes the holidays so much more enjoyable. I am sure I will get some flack for this and about how someone has to pick up my slack for two weeks, but honestly I am not to concerned about it. Everyone has the right to schedule their vacation when they chose...mine just happens to be at the holidays. My boss told me to enjoy, relax and have fun...and that is what I did. Happy Holidays!
Give it up and enjoy your vacation! They'll live w/o you for a few days. You're allowed! :) nm

Part-time with benefits? sm

I currently work 30 hours as an IC, but I am looking for a different company that has benefits.  Are there any companies that hire part-time (30 hours a week or less) and have benefits?

Thanks so much!

Sounds shady to me not to know what you're paying for.
Report to the Better Business Bureau.
If they're of college age & paying for their own way, how will you stop them? You let them go and
s
Can we ask why you're leaving a company paying over 9.6 cpl? nm

part time employees do get benefits
I would like to say after 2 years at walmart a part time employee may get health insurance for themselves only not their family and they do not get dental at all.  I know I have been with Walmart 8 years and I have also been a MT for 3 years.
Benefits with part-time employment?
DOes anyone know of any companies that offer bennies with part-time?
are these folks paying on time?
Thanks for the tip, will take test today, looks pretty rudimentary though, is this on the up and up?
We're paying 9 cpl and everything transcribed plus spaces is paid for.

hospitals will allow you benefits if you work part time sm
They will cost you a little but still a HUGE savings on paying all on your own.
Breitner's paying double time
Anyone ever work for a company before that paid actual overtime?  I haven't. I have worked for Breitners now for 4+ years and they are great, but was totally shocked this weekend when they asked for overtime help and offered to pay us double time AND bonus money if we typed more than 2 hours of dictation......  Just wondering if there are any other companies out there that do this, as Ive never ran into it before.......
Your insurance benefits will be effective through the period of time you have paid them which...sm

could be the end of the week or the end of the month or the day that the company calls the insurance company to cancel them. You cannot depend on thinking if you quit in the middle of the month you will be covered through the end of the month. You have to find out exactly from your company. Also for COBRA benefits you are eligible for up to 18 months or perhaps longer in special circumstances but yes you have to pay the premium all by yourself, the company doesn't chip in at all. The plus side is you are still in a group plan. You cannot get individual insurance unless you have NOTHING at all wrong with you, no high blood pressure, no depression, nothing. It is very important to not have a lapse in coverage greater than 60 days. If you do, you will lose coverage for any preexisting conditions when you go to your next GROUP insurance (this is the other part of HIPAA - portability). If for example you are covered for high blood pressure and you don't choose COBRA and your insurance lapses for more than 60 days, when you get on the next group plan, they will not cover your high blood pressure M.D. visits or medications for up to 1 year.

You can get relatively cheep individual coverage if you choose a high deductible, to carry you through. That is, if you can get it. Good luck.

MQ part-time benefits do NOT include medical/dental. Nm

I worked part-time for someone like that and they used the QA % to keep from paying bonuses
the QA % to keep from paying bonuses and I think that is so wrong. I no longer work for them.

Most of the reports that I had sent in were sent because the quality of the file was bad. it had a lot of skips and jumps in it and it could not be filled in.

They required 10%. The closest I got was 33%.

I think it is so wrong to require a %.
Totally agree. They're no longer paying for this so-called skill
and that's part of the reason the quality is down.
Generous??????
they make around 20000....or less.. don't they? LOL!!
Oh golly, take the kids on a vacation later. They need this vacation alone Sm

and there is not one thing on earth wrong about their taking it.

That was with full benefits, which are the same benefits as an in-office employee for the QA staff..
However, I hear that their current QA staff are being asked to reach numbers that are out of sight and goals are basically impossible.
You are very generous! It's been like 10 days, but

I live in MS and know here are parts of MS that haven't yet seen the Red Cross! I'm sure your donation can be used. I will be checking to see if I can find out something in case someone else on this board does not know what can be done with your things.   I thank you for the people of MS for your generosity!

OP must be a really nice person to think that is generous

No, no, I didn't mean that, please, I did not mean that. MTs are the most generous people in the
NM
supposed to be, after people lose their jobs, they are forced to take part-time, lower-paying jobs..
with little to no benefits. service jobs. where are you going to work in a few years, when Medical Transcription is replaced by technology? McDonald's, Walmart? you really going to like that?
401K
The answer will depend upon your age and your tolerance of risk. The younger you are, the more aggressive you can be with your fund because time is on your side with markets correcting over time. On the other hand, the older you are, the more conservative you need to be because your time frame to recover from bad markets won't be as long. Only you can determine your tolerance for risk and that depends upon your complete financial picture. HTH.
401K

I have had a Vanguard fund for 15 years. They took care of any changes as I aged;i.e., I'm in the age bracket where I now have 2 growth funds (safe), one aggressive fund, and a another fund which I don't remember what type it is. But when I opened this account with a rollover, I tried to choose a mix of everything, utilities (oil, water, gas, phone, and electric companies), merchandising (Wal-Mart, etc.), franchise restaurants (McDonald's, etc.), health care (drug companies, nursing homes, etc.).

I was a bit mad when they switched my utility account to a "safe" fund. Think how much money I could have now. LOL

Just read your prospectus carefully AND the amount of yearly costs and expenses. That could make a huge difference in your overall "profit".

I strongly disagree. I dated an engineer; most ingenous, humorous, generous
man I ever had the pleasure to meet. Being smart is smart, he has the Yummie!Wow factor too.
Ind 401K for self employed

There is a new type of retirement fund for self employed business people where you can put money in as both an employee ($15,000) and as a percentage of your profits as the business owner.  It is called an Ind 401K.  Here is a link...

http://www.troweprice.com/common/index3/0,3011,lnp%253D10264%2526cg%253D960%2526pgid%253D10057,00.html?scn=Low-cost_plans_with_&rfpgid=7622

I wanted to go with T. Rowe Price but they do not allow loans, so i decided to go with Oppenheimer.

I think it's different from 401K matching
but I would think the distribution of it might be different from company to company. I think some companies have profit sharing in the form of stocks and such. Others give bonus checks based on percentage of profit either yearly or quarterly.

Disclaimer: I'm no financial wizard, though. Sorry!
Sure you can. I currently have 2 401K, a Roth
IRA and a traditional IRA.  I will probably roll one of the 401K over into an IRA.
also 401K, % of company contribution, etc...nm
x
Each 401K is a separate entity. You can have...sm
as many as you want. Sure helps with the taxes!
I have what is perhaps a dumb question about 401k plans. Can you have 2? sm

I am starting a part-time job in addition to my full-time job, and they both have 401k plans with matching, so if I could have both, I could get a little extra on both sides.  Somehow, though, I am thinking that probably is not allowed.

Thanks for your input.

plus my company was kind enough to put $4K in my 401k every year...*smiles*
