Well I wouldn't call a person "stupid" because they aren't from here, but SM

maybe you mean because of the poor use of the language. I know what you mean.

your a very mean spirited person aren't you???
Are you a medica professional? Are you a psychologist? If the answer is NO, then you don't have any clue what you are talking about. Peope will millions of dollars are depressed. Money does not buy happiness. Don't you get it, this young man is asking for help. He is ALONE. Wow, so glad you are not on the other end of a suicide hotline. This poster seems to be either gifted as he is extremely talented but he obviously has psychological issues that are getting in the way of him acheiving his goals and dreams. To talk to a person in that way is cold and heartless and you should be ashamed of yourself. I pray your children never become depressed. GOD BLESS YOU.
Aren't you the same person who posted above that you work for Transolutions and USED
to work for the company that does 7 days a week?
I wouldn't let it go. I would email the person you've been corresponding with... SM

through the whole hiring process and I would present your research in a professional manner.  Simply say you can't understand how you missed five when you've researched all your answers after the fact.  Cite your sources and ask her if your test can be looked at again.

You may be helping out another MT in the future by bringing your concerns about the test to the company.  They might improve the testing process or the grading process in the future.

Thank you, QA person. IMO, ESLs aren't the enemy, it's POOR VOICE QUALITY!!! No excuse for

that in this day and age.  These accounts really must clean up their acts and disallow docs using cell phones, speaker phones, lounging and eating while dictating, ad nauseum.  I can't count how many times my ears hurt for hours after transcribing squealing reports.  And then the poor QA person gets an earful, too!  If I were an MTSO, I'd not accept an account with poor voice.  It's a "garbage in, garbage out" situation.  I've transcribed much clearer dictation on tapes!

Thank you for your kind comments.  It is really appreciated.  You're admired also!!

This angry, jealous person wouldn't know a fact
    .
i wouldn't call it a new pay plan.
but this has been in place awhile now (at least in my office). The rate you get paid PTO is based upon your 6-month average, which is way better than a straight $10/hr that it used to be. As far as i know, the QA score does not figure into the average hourly rate. But the QA is a little more structured and consistent and following BOS more from what I see. Since SE's don't get PTO, i don't guess that affects them...
Wouldn't call it envy. I don't even do
transcription anymore and haven't for almost 2 years.  I check in on this board and it just confirms that I made the right move.  At least I have bennies and my backside is half the size it used to be from sitting on it all day trying to make ends meet.
You're absolutely right - I wouldn't recommend this profession to a young person either.
    and no respect for it
a smart person expecting an important call
    nm
This is strange. I just discussed a flexible on-call person
for radiology with the owner of Keystrokes, where I have worked for 4 years. We were discussing the feasibility of having someone trained on a few accounts, ready to do "x" number of reports a day without a fixed schedule, floating on a few different accounts.

If anyone is interested, please email the office. You can do so through the ads on the job seekers board.
Time to call the authorities and put this person out of business. no mess.

Can't your set-up person talk you through this? Or call Dictaphone direct if you're

This is like the "stupid" instructions on...

products like shampoo and hairdryers.  Even though it seems stupid to us that they are pointing out "rinse after lathering" or "do not submerse in water"...the fact that it is on there is likely due to the fact that someone somewhere in this crazy world actually did it..and might have even tried to sue them for not telling them not to.  I've been an MT for 15 years.  And from your post I knew what DEXA was because I type radiology.  I had no clue what pallor was.  If I did clinic notes I would probably have known.  It's all in what you're familiar with.  So the other poster is right...if he's spelling it, it's probably because he knows a newbie is on the account or he's already had to correct it himself on a previous report.

To the original poster, don't feel like it's whining.  That's completely understandable.  I get frustrated over the same thing too.  The docs sometimes spell a word that they have got to know we use all the time...but do you think they would spell a referring doctor's name that they could hardly pronounce themselves?  Uhhhhh no!   So yeah, it is funny and frustrating at times what they think we need help with and we all need to vent sometimes.

Such lies. Just yesterday I had a payroll problem. 1 phone call, person answered, and IMMEDIATELY
remedied the situation. There are always people there to help us.  Wendy is just lying, and like I'll bet she's lying about her name! Its sooooooooo stupid to do this stuff when you're a disgruntled ex.
Can someone from the Ohio MQ office give me a contact person and a phone number to call or an email
address. I am interesting in asking a few questions to someone there in hopes of possibly transferring but I need some info first before I go from one problem to the same one elsewhere.
She was probably called "Stupid" a lot in elementary school.
I have a weird last name so I know about that. Kids can be very cruel.

Most in-house hospital jobs allow only 30 minutes for lunch! So I wouldn't call an hour lunch
"rigid."  If you are an employee, there are rules, set schedules, etc. that you have to expect.
It wouldn't load with my Office. Somehow it wouldn't "read" my 2003 Basic, although sm
technical couldn't find anything wrong with my software. They really tried hard. I see so many people that like Escription, I'm sorry not to be able to use it. Hopefully I can get Office Pro on my next machine, and maybe use it then. I could upgrade, but I'm still not sure it would work.
I work for the person. I know. Very excellent person, personally and business-sense.
It is an INSULT to have QA hovering over seasoned MTs who know what they are doing. She trusts her MTs and again if there are questions there is one person, a trainer, who can answer them via phone, e-mail or instant message or you can send the whole report to them if you choose.
Point was is the person willing to make up for the slack of the person who types 1 job when there is

if that is all they WANT to type.   Is the person who wants to be a supervisor willing to make up for those people?

You have crap supervisors, editors and mts in the business like you have good ones.   Sadly, the really good ones of all of them are few and far between.

Wouldn't that mean that you simply wouldn't have to print out everything?

When you have a QA person that is picky and another QA person that is very lenient where does that
leave the MTs because some are getting a lenient reviewer and others are getting one that picks at everything. How do you reconcile that issue with the difference in QA mentality. Some people make out well and the other people could be just as good but dont. I wonder about that.
The person MTSO pays is the person who

got the "phone call" -- get this, MQ has hired a bunch of telemarketers to call all of us to

we received our "incentive packet."  They don't even have the wherewithall to contact us personally.   These are temp-agency hired telemarketers sitting around a boiler room making sure we're reading our mail.... told him it don't pertain to me because I've been demoted from FT to SE.... He said, "yes, the letter is vague, but it does pertain to FT as well as SE...." yeah right, we'll see.

*70 will disable call waiting unless you are expecting a call and want it on (nm)

On-call requires on-call compensation by law
This field gets more disgustingly grotesque daily.
One person's "custom" is another person's
"house arrest". I'd never go to the Middle East because of how they treat women. I don't agree with their laws or "justice" system. For example, the woman who was gang raped as punishment for the actions of her 12-year-old brother, a boy who wasn't even an adult. How's that for a "custom"? Let's not forget bride burning. Burqas.

Besides, foreigners don't follow our "customs" when they come to this country. Half of them don't even bother learning English. Instead, we're expected to pay for healthcare and foodstamps for illegals and print everything in Spanish.

I won't be oppressed or treated as a second class citizen, and I wouldn't treat others like that either. A "custom" is more like putting up a Christmas tree, not being abused based on your gender.
i'm sure it will vary from person to person.
I recently did the same thing and am loving it! The freedom from time clocks, the better company, make losing the benefits well worth it to me. You need to set up a plan to have $ set aside for taxes though. I should have done this years ago!
Wrong person. I'm not the person you were
any money.  You have a sucky attitude, a "poor me" attitude.  Get off your lazy whiny a$$ and work instead of complaining and you will make money.  I have one account at 10.5 cpl, two at 14 cpl and one at 15 cpl.  I make a lot of money, even on the 10.5 cpl.  But I'm not sitting around whining either.  And I didn't whine when I made $6 an hour.
    Call me, call me anytime.
I'm waiting to hear back on a job.  Call me!
Call KS and call your bank. Why ask here?
    .
If they don't call you within 15 minutes, you should call them. There
is no excuse for leaving you sitting by a phone all day. At the very least, an e-mail explaining why the delay. If this is the way they train, how do they pay. Do you really want to work for a company who thinks so little of your time?
See how much fun we can have? We aren't always mean!
A little fun with typos can turn into a whole new city!
Why aren't we all doing something?
I have only seen 2 or 3 people say they are happy with MQ on this board. If we are so unhappy, why can't we band together and be heard?
Some are and some aren't, just like here.
    nm
    others aren't.
    ;O
    You aren't alone......... :(
    nn
No you aren't the only one with those sm
problems. Sounds like you had an awfully bad day. I truly admire anyone who works at home with young children. I could never have done that when my 3 sons (nothing like the hit tv show way back when) were growing up. You name it, they did it. If one didn't think of it, the other one did, and the majority of the time, it wasn't good. I admire you for giving it your best shot. Hopefully, someone on this board can give you some suggestions that will help. Keep trying!
    They Aren't the Only Ones

Technical support for just about anything is offshore now.  Call centers are worldwide.  I absolutely refuse to call and speak to someone I can't understand AND expect them to help me.  Dell actually has pretty clear-speaking ESLs and after "the job" is finished, they ask all kinds of questions about their English, knowledge, manner, etc...For once I was impressed.

When I was getting my phone line through Verizon, I had to speak with an ESL and it was a nightmare.  I get very cranky and short with them even though I don't mean to.  If I had the guts to do it, I would demand to speak to an American, but I can't bring myself to do that.

You aren't going to get 15 to 18 cpl.
profession if what you are getting paid isn't what you are worth.  I am staying here because I make more money doing MT than I could doing anything else.  I'm good at it and I'm fast.  I make $35 to $40 an hour.  The very least I ever make is on an account that I make 10.5 cpl on and that is $25 to $30 an hour.  There is no job I could get anywhere else that I could make that much an hour.  I think I am paid very well.  Yes, it's worth $25 to $40 an hour for me to do MT.  If you can't make enough, you need to find some other job.
And some MTs aren't serious enough.

    Some are bad some aren't...
Acute care is not easy. Not for a beginner anyway. Sometimes on the account I am on I just want to scream because I do get a lot of ESLs and they can be challenging. But there are some doctors who aren't so bad. Some days you may get terrible dictators and you think you aren't getting anywhere or making much of anything. Then another day you may have a better day where there aren't so many bad dictators and you get more done. I work on an account with a learning hospital which is a hospital where they have residents who are learning. It is a huge hospital and there are 35 pages of docs on the doctor list. That is not counting the residents either. No I am not kidding. It is rare to get the same doctor except every once in a while. You aren't doing the same ones everyday.
    Some aren't cut out
Some MLS's are just not cut out for editing- me for one. I tried for at least 6 months. My lead switched me to picking up the straight typing work on the accounts. I get the more difficult dictators which cuts my rate down but its still better than I can muster in editing. My problem - I can't edit and continue listening at the same time.
come on, aren't you going a little overboard here sm
I welcome the disagreement, I know everyone feels differently, BUT I too am entitled to my own opinion, and I simply pointed out a problem that I have seen here, and it's embarassing to ME personally to be "associated" with these negative people. I'm sorry if that offends you so much. Maybe fool was too harsh, maybe I should have said something like childish or bitter, I don't know. I just stated my own opinion, and don't care who agrees with it or who doesn't.
They probably aren't paying for it anyway---
That's why they charge so much for dues, etc., so the "higher-ups" can attend all these wonderful conventions in expensive places. I dropped them years ago. They don't have a CLUE that we are all scratching just to survive-- not with their "Let them eat cake" mentality! I wish EVERYBODY would drop their memberships and then see how often these idiots go to Hawaii when they all have to get a REAL JOB.
Maybe they also feel that they aren't the only ones going through it.
Working at home is very isolating, and just knowing that we have a place to vent,  share, and sometimes compare other experiences can be very cathartic. We can't get it off our chests to our employers because often it is viewed negatively. We can't discuss it with our spouses/significant others because they don't understand unless they're in the field themselves.  Discussing it with the puppy next to your chair helps, but not as much as discussing it with someone else who has been through it. We're all human beings and we all have differing needs.  Sometimes we just need "to let it out".
You are schizophrenic, aren't you? - sm
I have never heard of such a complete and total schizophrenic reply in my LIFE!!! You have a split personality for sure. You obviously have never had a 2 y/o, or were on drugs when your child was 2... they wake up in a strange place, they know they aren't home, they think "I want Mommy", get up, unlock the door and book on down the road looking for Mommy and Daddy. This was NOT the parents fault, the driver MIGHT have NOT realized he hit a child, and I am sure he will come forward once the news travels around... This was not anyone's "FAULT"... That baby just woke up looking for Mommy and Daddy, and went out the apartment, and I am sure it was securely locked just as the parent's apartment/home was, and the child just knew how to jimmy the locks... it happens... It is an experience that God has us endure to make us realize how much we must rely on Him... I know my initial comment on this reply was not "Christian-like", but for HEAVEN's SAKE WOMAN!!!! GET A GRIP ON REALITY!!! YOU ARE OUT OF THE ZONE!!!
    but aren't there limitations?

Prior to the onset of presbyopia, my vision was around 20/825. Now, I actually require the use of trifocals ... and even with those I can feel my vision constantly changing every few months (one eye gets a little weaker than the other).

no you aren't...he's a bad dictator
    nm
    Aren't grandkid's the best? sm

My first time being a gramma and I got blessed with twin girls who are now at the ripe old age of 17 months and never cease to amaze me.  The great thing about grandkids is you can play with them, spoil them, etc., without ever having to worry about doing anything wrong.  All of the "parental headaches" are up to mommy and daddy. :)

I find that after "all these years," I'm more patient than I was as a young mom.  Too much to worry about then.

I'm still a mom though.  I have a daughter who is only 10!  Spaced them out a bit toooooo far apart.  (I have 4, ages 23, 20, 15 and 10).  It's sad to say, but I have an easier relationship with my younger 2 as, not only do I know what to expect now, I've mellowed as I'm pushing 50. :)

But grandkids.  Wow!  They really don't expect a whole heck of a lot from you except for hugs and kisses.  I can't wait until the twins get old enough to ask me the questions I can answer with my vast experience over the years.

Gee, you are really upset, aren't you?!
The pros of working as an SE for me include such things as not having to work a set schedule--I really need and want that flexibility and as an SE, I have it!

I have a higher base rate than most employees; my incentive plan is better; and I still get quarterly bonuses.

I will be using my new computer equipment purchases and some of my rent and utilities when I file my taxes, etc.

I can still get tax breaks on medical expenses, I just have to file them differently than employees do (no pre-tax here).

I don't need the insurance through MQ; I have my own. I don't PTO, I make it up and I make enough to save for rainy days anyway.

Pros and cons will be different for different people. For me, the pros outweigh any cons.

I'm very happy as an IC/SE. I wouldn't work as an employee now.
