The conversation took place during the primary season

If they had a casual conversation on these issues before any official selections were even possible, they would have been purely speculative, dontcha think? During the heat of the primary compaign, HC would have been the last person he would have had in mind for either position. Sounds like a fairly innocent chat between friends to me.

Holiday Season

Christmas time is so great in NY..In CA, with no snow, it is sure different.  There is a ski area about 40 minutes from me, in the mountains that surround the desert..In order to get to the freeway and downtown LA, you have to drive through the mountains and ski area..All my CA friends ski.  I have never..Heck, I have never even skated..Tried to skate a few years ago and kept falling, figured I better stop before I break a hip.  One of my friends has offered to teach me skiing on the bunny slope where she takes her 4 year old daughter.  I said no thanks..I would probably be a fool.  Ah yes, I love this time of the year..Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hannukah, Christmas, New Year..So much to look forward to.

DUCK SEASON!!!

Personally, I think this campaign season
is just getting more and more exciting.  Imagine if an old man gets the Presidency, and his sidekick with absolutely no foreign policy experience ends up as President....very exciting....cannot get any more uncertain than that scenario.
It's hunting season here. We have no problems getting ammo. Sounds like a silly rumor to me. NT

I voted in our primary

on Tuesday. As soon as I put the card in the electronic machine it said invalid card even though I watched the woman run it through her little machine to clear it and saw it say clear twice. It took 3 people about 5 minutes to figure out how to get the card out of the machine. Then I got a new one. Everything went along fine until one choice. There were 4 people on the ballot; it would let me vote for 3 of them but not the 4th which was the one I wanted to vote for. I told them about this but nothing will happen. I think we should either have a paper trail or write them out long hand. Even if these machines were not suspect to begin with as far as tampering goes, just plain not working makes a huge difference in the vote.

I know that Bush did not win Florida in 2004. Thousands of African Americans did not stand in lines for hours to vote for Bush. You can take that to the bank and bet the farm on it too. My personal favorite though is a county that counted something like 10,000 votes for Bush and there are only 5,000 registered voters in the entire county !!! Go figure.

during a primary campaign. Now that JB is onboard,

That was just primary campaign retoric that happens... sm
in every campaign democrat and republican. Did you not see that on both sides during the primary?
primary opponent versus people

from own party who make their living promoting the repub cause.  Big difference in motivation.

No difference. Fact is that primary rhetoric
whenever you try depict rhetoric reversals as LIES, the challenge of your own candidates reversals will be waiting for you. Lame game and pointless.

Yes Sam, Biden is running with O. JB is a 35-year veteran in the Senate and if he felt O was not prepared for office, why then is is willing to place himself on the same ticket? JB knows what he is doing. There is no stronger statement of support than that. No brownie points for you on that one.

Day by day, we will be seeing dems, pubs and indies surface from Alaska who have bones to pick with SP. Wonder why that is? You can try to discredit and dismiss them to your heart's content, but you cannot ignore the fact that the public is never that forgiving and these types of testimonials will have impact on voter confidence. Funny how the verifiable facts that are a matter of public record included in Kilkenny's comments seem to have completely escaped your notice. Those facts will stand for what they are...challenges to the claims that she and the party are making about her fiscal responsibility and evidence of her tendency to want to run the show, run over anybody who gets in her way and take revenge on those would would oppose her. Not such a breath of fresh air after all, and looking a bit on the hypocritical side...a trait that some people associate with dishonesty. So yeah, whose lies and whose truths are not for you or I to decide. We have no choice here except to do our homework, put our views out there and leave it up to the voters to decide.
I worry about that too. My primary accout is oncology...sm
an he does not only have simple skin cancer but recurrent melanoma of the face. His age and medical history make me very nervous. I would not want SP to be president period.
The reason is because FL insisted on moving up the primary, despite being told NOT to. nm

Embarassing isn't it? The primary words being ignorant redneck. sm
I know lots of hicks here in Vermont that are not ignorant rednecks. We like people to call us hicks or tree-huggers. There are a few people here who hang out signs that say "Take Back Vermont" mostly to do with civil unions, but they are in the minority and Vermonters are by and large very tolerant people who mind their own business and don't abide fools. No kidding, life is good here in the Green Mountain State, with a socialist/progressive/independent senator. Go Bernie! We have affordable health care and health care for every child. We care about the environment. Go Obama!
Wanna revist the Romney/McCain primary wars?
Then he was "honored" to share speeching spotlight with Cindy and SP at RNC. Did he lie? Which time? SP's ebay claim was presented to the entire nation as a feather in her fiscal responsibility cap. This flies in the face of information found on this most interesting link, authored by a Wasilla woman who has personally known SP since 1992. http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/kilkenny.asp
I have been following the conversation. sm
I think Marylandgal is extremely defensive in her posting. I also KNOW she does not speak for all Jews.  Having said that, it's really easy to weasel out of an argument by invoking the specter or something horrible...Hitler usually works really well, or the KKK.  Then you are an anti-Semite or a racist.  It's a shameful way to argue but SOME liberals do it a lot.
This conversation is going nowhere.
And I am sure that the rabbis who attended were not the only ones who agree with them.  As with any other exploratory meeting, not everyone attends.  I am happy that THESE rabbis and Ben Stein as well choose life and interpret their religious teachings to choose life. It's unfortunate that you don't feel the same.
Won't go there? Isn't the conversation about...
impeaching George Bush? I said impeach him already. If what Kucinich has is dam*ing and he can prove any of it, why don't they just impeach? What part of that don't you understand?? What is it you want me to say and why is my comfort zone so all consuming to you? LOL.
It was on the old board, it was a conversation you had with Nan. SM

and it was about Affirmative Action. I remember it well because it was very long and civil exchange between the two of you back when I thought you could be reasoned with.  Nan said something about you have a different perspective and something like she could not challenge you from an African American point of view, I don't remember all the details, because you were African American at which point you said something like, what makes you think I am African American and she said, she thought you had said you were and you said I didn't say that because I am not.  Now this is not word for word but it is the gist of it.  Remember now?

But the conversation is about kids who are having

things done without the parents' knowledge.

I thought you were done with the conversation? sm
But when you got some back up you wanted to throw in a little more sarcasm? Well I am behind on my work now because I spent to much time talking to you. I can't change your mind, so I am just going to leave you alone.
This conversation reminds me of...(sm)

an event that took place during the Iraq war (not sure of the date, but I'm sure some of you will remember it).  There was an Iraqi child who was (as well as many others) caugt in a bombing raid.  It was all over the news about how the US military had given him provisional care and transported him from place to place, trying to get him to a place where he could be treated appropriately.  Unfortunately (like many other Iraqi civilians) he eventually died.  This in itself was not that remarkable, especially considering at the time the US was lobbing bombs into Iraq with the precision of a pumpkin-chunkin contest.  What was remarkable, however, was when the doctor who was caring for the child came out and told the news of his death to the world.  There were several questions entertained by the doctor from reporters, but the one that really struck home for me was one from a US reporter.  The question was, do you think the boy understood what we are trying to do here?  The boy that died was all of about 4 or 5 years old.

Not long after, the US decided to not show casualties in the news.  The government unfortunately was right in assuming the out of sight, out of mind thing would work.  It's amazing just how naive Americans can be.

This is a perfect example of what you would call American pride, honor, etc.  Nevermind the people who die, just make sure we look good doing it.  Again, I am not negating the value of the American soldiers here, they are simply doing what they've been told to do.

When you talk about soldiers helping the Iraqi people, exactly how are they helping them?  Are they bringing them food and medicine because we have destroyed their infrastructure?  Are they helping them find a place to stay because their house played catch with a US missle?  Or are we just taking care of their kids because we took mommy and daddy to a torture camp?  Believe me, we are doing much more harm than help.  Have you noticed that Iraqi civilian casualties far outnumber the casualties of American soldiers?  Where's the help for that?

And yes, I did have someone serving in Iraq.

And yet you just keep dragging the conversation on and on and on....sm

If you don't want to discuss it on the political board, quit discussing it.

No, and please don't twist my words. The conversation is sm
that Hitler founded his total belief system on the three pillars I posted here, the first being Jews and Communism.  I don't know how much more clear I can be frankly!   Where in the world did I EVER say he was sane.   I am talking about HISTORY.  I am not quite sure what you are talking about!
Did you see the video of the conversation with the Fox reporter?
The BP was not a very nice guy
Nobody asked you to butt out of the conversation.
You are being asked to respect the SEPARATION between the politics board and the faith board. If all you have to offer is religious in nature, your post does not belong here.

This breaking news just in....religion and politics are only as "intricately intertwined" as the secular among us allow it to be. There seems to be a consensus in America as there is in other western nations that the two do not mix well and certainly are not conducive to democratic process. I am neither atheist, agnostic or Christian, but I do consider myself to be a spiritual person of Universalist faith. I count myself among the secular citizens who will fight tooth and nail to keep religion out of politics and out of the government. There is a place for it in our society and in our lives...churches, synagogues, mosques, temples our homes and in our psyches. Why is that not enough for the theocrats? This constant push to pervade is a REAL LIVE BUMMER. Cease and desist, won't you?
I was making reference to an earlier conversation...sm
Look it up.
Hey...this whole thing started when YOU interrupted a conversation...
but I suppose you don't remember that...because you can't resist the knife jab. Yeah, transparent. How does your monstrous ego fit in yer little old head??
Barack says we need to have a conversation about race in America.?

Buchanan to Obama

By Patrick J. Buchanan

Barack says we need to have a conversation about race in America.?

Fair enough. But this time, it has to be a two-way conversation. White America needs to be heard from, not just lectured to.

This time, the Silent Majority needs to have its convictions, grievances and demands heard. And among them are these:

First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a
community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.

Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.

Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the ླྀs on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community
into the mainstream.

Governments, businesses and colleges have engaged in discrimination against white folks -- with affirmative action, contract set-asides and quotas -- to advance black applicants over white applicants.

Churches, foundations, civic groups, schools and individuals all over America have donated time and money to support soup kitchens, adult education, day care, retirement and nursing homes for blacks.

We hear the grievances. Where is the gratitude??

Barack talks about new 'ladders of opportunity' for blacks.

Let him go to Altoona and Johnstown, and ask the white kids in Catholic schools how many were visited lately by Ivy League recruiters handing out scholarships for 'deserving' white kids.?

Is white America really responsible for the fact that the crime and inca rceration rates for African-Americans are seven times those of white America? Is it really white America's fault that illegitimacy in the African-American community has hit 70 percent and the black dropout rate from high schools in some cities has reached 50 percent?

Is that the fault of white America or, first and foremost, a failure of the black community itself?

As for racism, its ugliest manifestation is in interracial crime, and especially interracial crimes of violence. Is Barack Obama aware that while white criminals choose black victims 3 percent of the time, black criminals choose white victims 45 percent of the time?

Is Barack aware that black-on-white rapes are 100 times more common than the reverse, that black-on-white robberies were 139 times as common in the first three years of this decade as the reverse?

We have all heard adnauseam from the Rev. AL about Tawana Brawley, the Duke rape case and Jena. And all turned out to be hoaxes. But abo UT the epidemic of black assaults on whites that are real, we hear nothing.

Sorry, Barack, some of us have heard it all before, about 40 years and 40 trillion tax dollars ago.

topics to avoid during polite conversation.
We do have separation of church and state.

Lack of intelligent conversation on your part
nm
If you want to have a private conversation with JTBB, take it off-line.
If you post to the forum, it's fair game for anyone.

Oh, and incidentally, if I felt comfortable posting my CV on a public forum, you'd be very embarassed by the "clueless" characterization.
The article posted is not the complete conversation. Ever hear of Freakanomics? sm
That has a lot to do with the conversation. As usual, the MSM left out significant parts of what was said.  No surprise there.
Go ahead. Let's bring Reverend Wright back into the conversation...
and Jesse Jacksin (hymietown) and Louis Farrakhan...yeah, let's bring that back into the conversation. If Barack can claim he went to that church for 20 years but doesn't share the theology...so can she, right?

If you are going to fry her now, let's go back to Reverend Wright. You betcha!!
Since you're having this conversation with yourself, including my side of it, pray continue.

she did go to the right place
they had her husband listed but not her. she went on the county website and found her active status after she got home but now it's too late because of the provisional ballot being accepted.
You ought to see the place now.
The people who bought it left the barn fall apart. They tore down the summer kitchen (2 rooms, 1 up, 1 down)  and "canning house" (24 x 40), and never took care of the orchard. It looks like a dump...and it breaks my heart. Everything was in good shape when we tried to buy it.
Probably the same place she gets
It seems to be of comparable quality.
Web site best place.
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/

Mouse over the issues and a drop down list will provide you with lots of links that should keep you busy. You can also check out some of his better speeches if you like. If you are interested in being conversational and social and an Obama party, this is the place for you.

As you have already discovered, this chat room is the last place to look. The web site simply lays out the platform and policies in Obama's own words, without bias one way or the other..simple straight talk.

If, however, you are interested in getting kicked out of the party and labeled a right-wing fringe element, then go to the other links on black liberation theology. You are free, of course, to read about it and come to your own conclusions. But if you do explore that issue, please read the website throughly before deciding whether or not you think he subscribes to that theology. I can tell you categorically, none of his supporters believe the propaganda suggested to you in the other posts in this regard. It would be interesting to ask others at the party what they think about the assertions that Obama embodies those beliefs.

How refreshing to find a voter as open minded as this. Good luck with our research. Feel free to email me with any questions you may have.
I don't know....but I don't think it is our place to judge....
I knew girls in high school who did not want to ask their parents about birth control, intended to stay celibate, had the same boyfriend through school let hormones override their better judgment and got pregnant. Not their parents' fault. And as you said, the boy could have used a condom, and we don't know that he didn't, because we know the success rate for condoms is not that great. That we are even having this discussion to me is ludicrous...if Chelsea had become pregnant while Bill was in the White House I don't think Democrats would be attacking Bill and Hillary's parenting skills. I certainly would not have.
System in place........
No more taxes? Would be nice, but have to have some system in place to run schools, hospitals, keep infrastructure up to date, etc.

That is what your state is supposed to be responsible for.....not our government.

that's okay - I just said we needed something in place nm

And, according to the Q'ran there is a place
in h*ll for all who are not Muslim, including you, if you are not Muslim.

Wanna dispute that?

there is already some provisions in place -
I already had my preexisting conditions covered because I had had continuous coverage for 18 months before with another company - so it can be done already in some cases. Why would it be impossible to make it a law in every case?
That would be the US Senate....same place as McC

You nut jobs can have this place

Keep on ranting about the stupid b/c like as if you are smarter than Hillary and McCain.  If there'd been even a SNIFF of wrongdoing in the b/c, they would have drug it out and already drug it through the mud.  Personally I don't think a lot of the nut jobs who hang out here are even MTs.  I think they are professional political pot stirers!!!

BB, you don't think religion has a place anywhere! LOL sm
You do know I'm just kidding, right?

Warren did take a biblical stand against gay marriage and homosexuality, which does surprise me, considering what "The MESSage" says, but as much as I disagree with him on a lot of things (not necessarily environmental) I have to agree with his stance regarding what you refer to as alternative lifestyles. According to the Bible, homosexuality ranks right in there with all the other things you mentioned. I won't go any further into that because this is not the forum for it. However, I do think that Warren's watered down style probably fits in more with Obama's idea of religion that, oh, say, Billy Graham might. I just wonder if Rev. Wright got his feelings hurt because he wasn't chosen. He was, after all, Obama's religious mentor.
Thanks. If I want entertainment, that would be the place, but
I would find two-way conversations between opposing points of view aimed at defining differences, finding common ground, and respectful exchange of reliable and verifiable information which is SOLUTIONS oriented much more challenging. Any ideas?
