My husband and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary on Sunday the 14th. We were actually better off financially as 21-year-old newlyweds than we are today. My husband pulled hiw wallet out on Sunday and began to flip through the few dollar bills he had when he said, "Do you realize I had more money in wallet the day we got married than I do today?" The poor guy was up sick most of the night and vomited all morning. I told him he couldn't go to work that sick and he said that he had to. He has no more vacation time left, we haven't even started shopping for our daughter yet with Christmas eve less than a week away.
Financially, this is the worst Christmas I have ever had. I don't know how anyone is supposed to "feel blessed" and "share the love," when I'm so stressed out from working so much OT and robbing Peter to pay Paul.

in terms of ridiculously high bonuses to do-nothing CEOs, glitzy parties, private jets, etc. Recently one of the bailed-out companies rented San Francisco's brand-new Museum Of Natural History, and threw a posh party there. I think the bailout just rewards failure, instead of allowing all those dufuses to learn from their mistakes. In the end, it will only benefit big business, but it won't do a thing for regular working people, especially if the so-called jobs created by bailing these companies out have low pay, little or no benefits, etc. Or worse, the jobs they create get offered to those living in India.

As far as the food stamps, I have known several peoplo on these for years and years (before the present guy) who have known how to play the game of getting them and so glad several years ago when they started that you have to go to work and earn a living. Schumer is speaking (almost done now) about passing
this stimulus. He says, "Don't give us the back of your hand because we have made efforts. It is not perfect, but it's sure a lot better than sitting here, arguing and doing nothing. It requires concerted and smart action that President Obama wants."
He makes me sick. He stands to get 8.65B, or 28 times more money for his state than Kansas. Kansas will only get $450M.

Mixed feelings - Bills speech was excellent.
To be honest I didn't watch her speech - refused to. I didn't feel like listening to her talk about me, me, me and how she feels she really won. So - in all fairness I don't know whether it was a good speech or not. What I have read about her speech is that someone said she said the party needs to be united and support Barack. I read another article that said she didn't do anything to unite the party. And I read another article that said Hillary's speech was a blow to the campaign and because of it Baracks ratings have dropped. I read all of this on the drudge page and I do believe there are both liberals and conservatives there, but I could be wrong. In honesty I can't tell you what I thought of it, and I think my hatred for her really is not fair to her but it does make me biased against anything she has to say.
On the other hand - I thought I hated Bill Clinton more than I did her and I was planning to refuse to listen to his speech tonight, however, found myself to curious so I did listen. Once he got past the praising Hillary & his presidency (which he didn't do as much as I thought he would) I actually thought his speech was very good. Well thought out and I thoroughly enjoyed it and my opinion of him has definitely changed (we just won't tell my mother-in-law - think she'd have a seizure- ha ha ha).
Bill Clinton for the first time finally came out backing Barack and listed the reasons why we need Barack as president, and why he is the right choice. He was sincere, intelligent, and I actually enjoyed his speech.
I have heard that Bill Clinton has planned that he is not going to be there tomorrow when Barack walks out to give his acceptance speech he is going to leave (I guess a protest that Hillary didn't get picked), but after his speech tonight I wonder if that was just a rumor. Time will tell.
I still think he was a horrible horrible present for 8 years (one of the worst presidents in history), but tonight he showed a different side to him and I give him credit for that.

you would think you would want to clean your party up. But I guess not. Whatever, your choice. I do not turn a deaf ear to what any Democrats say on this board...I just refute what is not truthful. And they pound me pretty good as well. And as to tuning me out...do whatever makes you comfortable. It is a free country, after all.

GOP Pays Legal Bills in Vote-Thwart Case

WASHINGTON - The Republican Party says it still has a zero-tolerance policy for tampering with voters even as it pays the legal bills for a former Bush campaign official charged with conspiring to thwart Democrats from voting in New Hampshire.
James Tobin, the president's 2004 campaign chairman for New England, is charged in New Hampshire federal court with four felonies accusing him of conspiring with a state GOP official and a GOP consultant in Virginia to jam Democratic and labor union get-out-the-vote phone banks in November 2002.
The Republican National Committee already has spent more than $722,000 to provide Tobin, who has pleaded innocent, a team of lawyers from the high-powered Washington law firm of Williams & Connolly. The firm's other clients have included former President Clinton and Sen. Hillary Clinton and former Housing Secretary Henry Cisneros.
Republican Party officials said they don't ordinarily discuss specifics of their legal work, but confirmed to The Associated Press they had agreed to underwrite Tobin's defense because he was a longtime supporter and that he assured them he had committed no crimes.
"Jim is a longtime friend who has served as both an employee and an independent contractor for the RNC," a spokeswoman for the RNC, Tracey Schmitt, said Wednesday. "This support is based on his assurance and our belief that Jim has not engaged in any wrongdoing."
A telephone firm was paid to make repeated hang-up phone calls to overwhelm the phone banks in New Hampshire and prevent them from getting Democratic voters to the polls on Election Day 2002, prosecutors allege. Republican John Sununu won a close race that day to be New Hampshire's newest senator.
At the time, Tobin was the RNC's New England regional director, before moving to President Bush's 2004 re-election campaign.
A top New Hampshire Party official and a GOP consultant already have pleaded guilty and cooperated with prosecutors. Tobin's indictment accuses him of specifically calling the GOP consultant to get a telephone firm to help in the scheme.
"The object of the conspiracy was to deprive inhabitants of New Hampshire and more particularly qualified voters ... of their federally secured right to vote," states the latest indictment issued by a federal grand jury on May 18.
The Republican Party has repeatedly and pointedly disavowed any tactics aimed at keeping citizens from voting since allegations of voter suppression surfaced during the Florida recount in 2000 that tipped the presidential race to Bush.
Earlier this week, RNC chairman Ken Mehlman, the former White House political director, reiterated a "zero-tolerance policy" for any GOP official caught trying to block legitimate votes.
"The position of the Republican National Committee is simple: We will not tolerate fraud; we will not tolerate intimidation; we will not tolerate suppression. No employee, associate or any person representing the Republican Party who engages in these kinds of acts will remain in that position," Mehlman wrote Monday to a group that studied voter suppression tactics.
Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean on Thursday questioned Mehlman's commitment to the policy. "This is just another example of his say one thing, do another strategy. Ken Mehlman tells crowds his party is against voter fraud and intimidation, while in the backrooms he supports Republican officials who engage in these dirty tricks," Dean said.
Dennis Black and Dane Butswinkas, two Williams & Connolly lawyers for Tobin, did not return calls seeking comment. Brian Tucker, a New Hampshire lawyer on the team, declined comment.
Tobin's lawyers have attacked the prosecution, suggesting evidence was improperly introduced to the grand jury, that their client originally had been promised he wouldn't be indicted and that he was improperly charged under one of the statutes.
Tobin stepped down from his Bush-Cheney post a couple of weeks before the November 2004 election after Democrats suggested he was involved in the phone bank scheme. He was charged a month after the election.
Paul Twomey, a volunteer lawyer for New Hampshire Democrats who are pursuing a separate lawsuit involving the phone scheme, said he was surprised the RNC was willing to pay Tobin's legal bills and that it suggested more people may be involved.
The new development "really raises the questions of who are they protecting, how high does this go and who was in on this," Twomey said.
Federal prosecutors have secured testimony from the two convicted conspirators in the scheme directly implicating Tobin.
Charles McGee, the New Hampshire GOP official who pleaded guilty, told prosecutors he informed Tobin of the plan and asked for Tobin's help in finding a vendor who could make the calls that would flood the phone banks.
Allen Raymond, a former colleague of Tobin who operated a Virginia-based telephone services firm, told prosecutors Tobin called him in October 2002, explained the telephone plan and asked Raymond's company to help McGee implement it.
Raymond's lawyer told the court that Tobin made the request for help in his official capacity as the top RNC official for New England and his client believed the RNC had sanctioned the activity.
However, I agree that these people shouldn't just walk free. If they are connected in any way with Saddam and/Al Queda/Hamas or any known terror cell they should never see light of day again be it in the depths of a prison or from their graves.

where is the iota of value in this post? And, as it has been explained on numerous occasions, we are allowed to cross-post. Liberals also post on the conservative board. I asked a simple question of a liberal poster and was rewarded first with condescending comments alluding to the superior intellect of the liberal poster, and rewarded second with accusations that I was a cliche (my native american heritage). And after all that....refused to answer my question. I suspect because the posterior was incapable of doing so. Perhaps you can explain to me why many liberal posters post something, and when you ask them a question about it and they cannot, the resort to condescending and hateful comments. Talk about not having one iota of value in a post other than to talk down to someone asking a simple question. Wouldn't the best thing to do be just not answer the post at all? Don't understand the defensiveness. All that tells me is that they are not secure in what they believe and without talking points to refer to are lost as a goose. That is not an accusation...it is an observation.
Just another quick observation...
when Clinton came to OKC after the Murrah bombing, even though he is not anywhere on my list of favorite people, I was happy that he came and represented the office and spoke to we Oklahomans. It was moving and I was very, very happy that he came. What I did NOT do, and what NO conservative I was aware of did, was complain that why did he come there and NOT go to the funerals of those soldiers who were killed and their bodies dragged behind Jeeps in Somalia. Why, you ask? Because the two had absolutely NOTHING to do with each other. And to try to make political hay out of what happened at Virginia Tech is immature, thoughtless, and another hurt to add to those poor folks in VA trying to deal with this. War is awful, hateful, and NOBODY wants it; however, death has always been associated with war. However, going to your class innocently on any April day and having a lunatic come in and shoot 32 of you is FAR different. And if you really cannot see the difference and the emotional effect, not just you but a great many on the left, need to really sit down and examine your values. Seriously.

How can McCain vote with Bush 90% of the time when Bush does not have a vote in the senate? Also, a lot of the votes in the senate are unanimous so that means that democrats are voting "with Bush" too. Please research these things by looking at actual voting records of folks instead of believing whatever the media says, left or right.

What do you think makes you a Christian, bcuz you were baptized? Never in scripture does it say to be a Chrisitan you have to be baptized. Being baptized is the outward sign that you are a christian. It is all based on believing in Jesus who died on the cross for your sins. John 3:16; John 3:36; John 6:40; John 6:47 the list could go on.
Women Deacons:
God never once said deacons were to be women. It is talked about in 1 Timothy 3:8-13. However, you need to read the scripture in contexts, bcuz this is where a lot of people think when he says "wife" he is saying "deaconess",however, this is not the case. You need to take the words back to the original language to understand their true meaning. Also if you search out 1 corinth 14:34 and 1 Timothy 2:12. If you have a lexacon, I suggest using it, and if not buy one.
For homosexuality:
Sin is sin, all sin is equal to death (Rom. 6:23)unless you have trusted the Father. Once you have trusted the Father then you also have the Holy Spirit housed in you. With the Holy Spirit, you will feel convicted over your sins and ask for forgiveness. This does not mean that you will never sin for all sin. There is none righteous, not even one (Rom. 3:10). However, if you ask for forgiveness it will be granted to you (1 John 1:9).
This does not mean that homosexuality is right. This was never what God intended. (1 Corinth 6:9 and 1 Tim 1:10) Just a few passages.
I do not hate homosexuals, as hate would be a sin in God's eyes. However, we need to love them and show them that God loves them too. If they would trust in God, he would forgive them and help them to turn away from their sin.
Tithing:
Tithing is an old testament law. Once Jesus' blood was shed on the cross that was our payment of sin and no longer holds us under the law of the old testament. However, this is one law that churches like to hold onto. If you practice this law of the old testament, then you know that it is not only 10% of your earnings, but 10% of everyhing in your possession.
Pro choice:
As you stated this is everywhere in the bible. God never wanted abortion. All children are His children. Refer to the Ten Commandments, "Thou shall not commit murder". This is all over in the bible.
As a professing Christian, I hope that you brush up on what scripture teaches us. You are hurting the Christian race by blasphemying Christ; going against His word. (Matt 12:31) We need to keeps God Commandments (John 14:15;). I could go on.
As for things are different today then they were back then, read Hebrews 13:8 "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever".
True Christian's beliefs should not be different. There is only one bible (different translations), but if you studied it and researched it back to its original language, you would know that "religion" does not make us Christians, believing His word does.

I was simply passing on a story, like the OP. I'm not Republican because my dad is. I'm a conservative and if those beliefs happen to go along with the Dem candidate, then that's who I'll vote for. The story was meant to show how people's idea of "spreading the wealth" can sound like a really good idea - everyone haveing an equal share - but when you get down to it, it goes against everything our country was founded on. I still say that teaching children tolerance of others different than they are is one thing. Teaching acceptance of such a controversial topic is another story.
As for not teaching 5 year olds...what was with the story about the same-sex penguins who raised a baby penguin together? If that isn't teaching kindergartners about homosexuality...well then I don't know what is.
Tolerance can be taught without teaching acceptance of homosexuality in public schools. Besides, since homosexuality is much more out there than it was when I was in school, you would think kids would be used to having them in their schools anyway. I keep hearing about how same sex marriage is more acceptable especially by younger people and yet here you are telling us that homosexuality acceptance should be taught in public schools because it isn't accepted by young people. So which is it?
Next, to the points that I can address quickly - he is now not going to raise taxes on the "rich" because of the current economic condition, but that he is still intending on giving tax breaks to the middle class families.
He also said during the campaign that he is going to bring the troops home, but it has to be in a safe manner. You cannot just say that they are pulling out on a certain day - that would be crazy and extremely dangerous for our soldiers. It has to be arranged. He had a timeline in the beginning - people just jumped on what he said and took things out of context and listen to what words they want to hear, not every word.
I for one will support him as long as he is doing a good job and then I will be the first to stand up and say I should not have voted for him if things go bad. And the whole point of sending them to other countries, we all agreed in the beginning that we need to get Osama Bin Laden, so why not do it now? I think he needs to be gone and I think we need to do whatever it takes to get him. I, however, think that Obama's point of view is the same as mine, we should not be in Iraq wasting our time when that is not where the problem is...
When I say "love him or hate him", I mean that nobody is lukewarm for his policies. It seems as if everyone is either gungho behind him or gungho against him. That has been proven time and time again just on this board, not to mention other places out in public that I have been. The people who are for him are for him and the people that area against him cannot be objective to sit down and listen to his whole speech or his whole idea.

Everyone put it on Bush's shoulders to do some thing about this and now that he has, still he gets bashed. He's not my favorite president by far, but I think he should be afforded some kind of recognition for doing something to help the economy. As far as pay cuts for the UAW, the article says that they will have to bring their wages more in line with those of foreign auto makers, which is still a danged good salary. Would the UAW rather have a pay check or be completely unemployed? That is pretty much what it all boils down to. Okay, lifelong Dem, coming from a family of generations of lifelong Dems, loving my country and always supporting my party......I have been watching C-Span for many, many hours over the past few days....while I believe we have to save our economy (and our people) very quickly, with prudence and accountability, the pork grease that I see dripping off this bill, despite its good points, is making me ill. Please, will some of the Democratic leaders cut the pork, cut the BULL, get down to the necessary and proven, INSURE AND GUARANTEE accountability in every area of this bill, and put my faith back????? Wow, this Bill is starting to stink more than my Grandfather's dairy farm on a hot summer day, and for the same reason, lots of bull $h*t. Help??? I like blue so much better! Whether someone says "You shouldn't be able to do in your bedroom" or someone says "You should be able to do in your bedroom", it's just opposite sides of the same thing, i.e. someone offering an opinion about your bedroom activities. Whether it's "may" or "may not" doesn't change the fundamental character of the statement.
