Wow...that's what I call total disregard for others.

We are about to be on the hook for billions...
orchestrated by the Democrats in Congress and ignored by both Biden and Obama...both supposedly savvy politicians who care about the middle class...well guess what...the middle class gets royally screwed over in this just like everyone else...and you want to make fun of Palin. I guess that shows priorities are.
I just get very angry when I see BILLIONS of...

dollars being given away to Wall Street crooks with absolutely NO accounting as to who is getting how much, yet the MOST important Americans (again, IMHO) are the troops who are sacrificing their lives for us, and they receive the least in return.

I'm copying and pasting the text of the article below.  The interview, I believe, is very powerful, but at least if I can copy the text, you'll have some notion of what this is about.

CBS: KBR knowingly exposed troops to toxic dust

David Edwards and Muriel Kane
Published: Tuesday December 23, 2008

A CBS News investigation has obtained evidence that a subsidiary of Halliburton, the giant energy company formerly headed by Vice President (bad word - can't post) Cheney, knowingly exposed United States soldiers to toxic materials in Iraq.

CBS interviewed Commander James Gentry of the Indiana National Guard, who is dying of a rare form of lung cancer that he believes is the result of "months of inhaling hexavalent chromium" after his battalion was assigned in April 2003 to protect contractors from Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR) working in Iraq at a local water plant. Other members of his unit are also suffering from cancers or rashes associated with the toxic chemical, which was all over the plant.

"We didn't question what we were doing," a grief-stricken Gentry told CBS. "We just knew we had to provide a security service for the KBR. ... We would never have been there if we would have known."

CBS has obtained documents which indicate that KBR knew about the danger months before the soldiers were informed. KBR employee depositions show there were "concerns about the toxins in one part of the plant as early as May of 2003," while later minutes detail symptoms of exposure, including bloody noses and rashes.

It wasn't until the end of August that the Indiana National Guardsmen were informed that the plant was contaminated, and some say they have only just learned about it this year.

Indiana Senator Evan Bayh told CBS, "I think the burden of proof at this point is on the company to come forward and very forthrightly explain what happened, why we should trust them, and why the health and well-being of our soldiers should continue to be in their hands."

KBR has issued a statement saying, "We deny the assertion that KBR harmed troops and was responsible for an unsafe condition."

KBR, which was spun off by Halliburton in 2007 as a separate corporation, has previously been accused of providing contaminated water to troops in Iraq, taking kickbacks, and sending workers to Iraq against their will.

The full CBS story can be read here.

Billions More Needed for Rescue?

This is over and above the new so-called stimulus package.

In my local newspaper, it states "More proposals waiting in wings" then it goes on to state "The obama adminstration is developing proposals to help rescue the banking system that could cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars beyond the $700 bililion bailout Congress already has approved.

Details are still being worked out but the administration is looking to spend hundreds of billions more to address the foreclosure crisis, help banks get out from under weighty bad assets and expand liquidity programs."

I'm really starting to get sick literally over this. We can't spend billions of dollars when the money isn't coming into the treasury.  We can't printing money without anything to back it up.

If any of you think these packages will not help the economy, please, I'm almost begging you, email or call your reps and get it stopped.

What about the Billions Bush spent
Giving millions to companies without overseeing how the money was spent. You think that is responsible? You should at least give Obama a chance. We had to suffer through 8 long years of Republican ridiculousness... Can you not be gracious enough to allow this man some time? At least he has a plan to help American PEOPLE - Not INSTITUTIONS...AKA Bush Cronies.
Wow, spot on . . .10 billions dollars a month . . .
for that war.  For what?   OIL.  That money could go a long way to making sure EVERYBODY had healthcare and dramatically speed up the process of developing alternative energy sources!  Why can no one see how much sense this makes?
I just heard billions of dollars in bigger government...
xx
So a FREE society cuts billions from the army corp of engineers....
so, literally, whole cities drown but we can spend trillions on a war based on lies and support corporations like Halliburton. Sure, why not. It has worked very, very well.
Kind of like the mega-rich CEOs that see nothing wrong in billions in bonuses...sm
while the company disintegrates, faithful workers pensions and futures are taken away, and they basically rape the company for all it is worth, to he!! with the workers who made the company prosperous! In my mind, it is the same mindset---ENTITLEMENT. Get as much as you can as fast as you can and screw everyone else! FDR DID devise welfare as a safety net so families would not starve to death in desperate economic times, it was never meant to be a career or a way of life, we as a country have looked the other way, as with the illegal alien problem, far too long and must make sure our legislators DO something about it OR GET OUT!
Yes, SO easy. Which is why the diet industry in this country rakes in billions each year. nm
.
Who put us in debt?

Who borrowed all that money from China? 42% of the bill is Republican proposed tax cuts. The last stimulus proved that tax cuts don't work (Under George's watch- helped his base, though). The money is either saved or used to pay off debt, neither of which help the economy. Maybe you ought to look over your shoulder and see where the real blame lies. Obama is doing the best he can and all you racists can do is trounce him at every turn. And don't even bother bleating that you're not racist as I see no other reason why you would hug the last administration so fiercely and hate Obama with so much venom. Obama hasn't been able to do ANYTHING yet. Both sides of the aisle wrote that stimulus package - so figure it out.

debt you can believe in
I can only hope our economists can somehow separate Obama's debt, which will kill us all in our sleep, from Bush's debt, which made us all rich and strong ("Reagan proved deficits don't matter," as VP Richard Cheney famously said--haha, I can't use his usual first name in the post; how stupid is that?).

No, wait. What I actually hope is that the difference between governing and politics keeps becoming more and more visible, so that people are forced to think outside their usual assumptions about what their political party stands for.
No. Remembering the debt we owe all of those
Camera angles, selective footage, media spin do not paint a true full picture. When the emphasis is put on the guys you describe and the rest of the event is never broadcast, it is not be accident. They strive to create the images and impressions which you now express. What is more pertinent here is the anger you see there, in these posts, between the parties and all over our country after 8 years under the regime. This is not blame. It is statement of fact. It's not pretty, granted. But to really undestand what you are looking at takes a little more than a sound byte or a drive-by post.
Considering our national debt is now......... sm
sitting at, what, $3 trillion dollars, I doubt government oversight would be of much benefit to the auto industry. In fact, I kind of feel like the government really has the audacity to ask a private industry to prove a solvent plan when the government can't even balance their own books. Either way, the auto industry is going under. It's just a matter of whether it is now or 6 months from now.
True. We are in debt already. Let's just
and now our country will go bankrupt. Depression, here we come.
True. We are in debt already. Let's just
and then our country will go bankrupt. Depression, here we come. Although some cities are already feeling depression. Cannot wait for our treasury guy who does not know how to do TurboTax is going to say how much more debt (money) we will need coming this week. I betcha the stocks will fall between 300-400.

Wow. New jobs coming. Cannot wait. Maybe a 5',2" and 110 pound woman can apply working on building bridges, paving roads, building a train track from CA to NV. Then the jobs will be finished for me and then what?
She ran our state into debt.
SHE is an extremist.
If you are talking about the war debt, your congress did...

HC's campaign debt would suggest that

This plan is not going to affect this debt
growth rate at all, it will continue to grow on a daily basis. This stimulus package will just be added to the total debt. And, actually we do NOT KNOW THAT THIS MONEY WILL BENEFIT people. At this point, we can only pray that it will, we have no other choice. Time will tell.
Will never last. Obama is putting us in debt we may

So, you don't care if we are in debt to the tune

of $9T over the next 10 years?????  You really want your children, grandchildren and probably your great-grandchildren to pay for mistakes that did not have to take place in the first place?

You're not wasting tea, you're wasting the little tag on the tea bag. How hard is it to let the government know you are furious with their antics?  I just don't agree it's a waste of time.

Some of us (not me yet) are in the less fortunate boat and not getting any help at all while those in power pocket our money. It's time to stop the nonsense and hold those accountable for their actions. It's time to let the government know we don't want to be told how to live anymore. Freedom is not free anymore. It costs a lot of money and our freedoms are slowly being whittled away one by one. I want to see my grandchildren enough those freedoms, not wind up being told how to live, what to eat, where and when to work, etc.

Whew! Sorry. Am venting.  I'll get off my soapbox now.

Bush sunk himself and our country......DEBT
v
Democratic = surplus - Republican = debt
Based on Congressional accounting rules, at the end of his presidency Clinton reported a surplus of $559 billion.

After 8 years of Bush...As of September 2008, the total U.S. federal debt was approximately $9.7 trillion.
Has anyone watched "Money as Debt" video?
It's a 47 minute animated video you can find on line (I believe it's on You Tube as well as other places.) I watched most of it once and it's just unbelievable what the banks have been doing for YEARS and it explains a lot of why (at least around where I live) there are new banks with names I've never heard of popping up on every corner and in every new strip mall.

It also goes a long way in explaining how these banks are in such trouble and how they're pulling everyone down with them.

Obama will make sure our children pay for this debt
nm
Any ideas on how paying down too much debt could be a terrorist threat?nm

And what about the debt he inheriteed from George W. Bush, take off the blinders......sm
and they say WE have been drinking Kool-Aid? WE had a president who could hardly color inside the lines, was an inarticulate moron, catered to special interests, led us into an unjustfied war with Iraq (HELLO, IT WAS THE TALIBAN/OSAMA IN AFGHANISTAN ON 9/11), we lost all respect around the globe, and he took a balanced budget from President Clinton and got us into trillions of dollars worth of debt, all the while allowing all bhe banking deregulation, feeding the GREED machine in this country. The past administration was a TRAGEDY perpetrated on the American people, so you folks can keep drinking your Republican Red Kool-Aid, keep prematurely judging this president as you lick your lips praying for his failure, which by the way means RUIN for you, me, and the rest of the nation. The man is willing to TRY, to compromise, and he has only been in office barely three weeks. All the harshness against Obama is misdirected anger and pique that the Republicans were ousted. IMHO. Saying stuff over and over DOES NOT MAKE IT SO!!!
What a snooty post, no,we have PAID OFF all debt, own our home,,,,sm
outright, thank you, own both our cars, but when you are caring for three kids, taking care of their needs, paying about $300.00 a week on food, I have several serious illnesses with lots of meds, we have high costs here in the North East, AND we are putting money into 401K and retirement, sometimes we DO have to wait a day or two to buy something, it is called A BUDGET, it is called self-restraint in spending, and you, my friend, need some serious counseling in compassion, communication, ....do you even have friends with that kind of attitude??? what is your problem exactly?

Tax and spend...

but not in that order

"I think at this point there needs to be a focus on an immediate increase in spending and I think this is a time when deficit fear has to take a second seat . . . I believe later on there should be tax increases. Speaking personally, I think there are a lot of very rich people out there whom we can tax at a point down the road and recover some of the money."

SHE did not spend it, GOP did. - see message
I take great issue with the fact that we have some serious problems in America (unemployment/lost jobs, housing crisis, war, etc) and everyone is focused on where and how much was spent on Palin and families clothes. Hooey is what I say! (sorry don't know how to spelly hooey(who-ee)). Everyone is focused on money. Money, money, money. That's all anyone cares about. Obama is picked and everyone is praising the democratic choice because he is not someone who has been in Washington for centuries like the other. Palin is picked and republicans are critized that she has not been around for centuries. Obama has no experience and that's okay "we need a fresh face with new ideas". Palin is picked who has experience and people chose to ignore that. So everyone wants people who have money in the white house and she is critized for not having enough. Everyone is into the "image". Palin and her family do not live like the high-fallutin (sp?) washington beurocrats do. They don't spent thousands of dollars on clothing. But because "image" is what everyone wants, the GOP buys them clothes. God knows she's made fun of for everything else. She already answered the question. SHE did not buy clothes, etc for her and her family. The GOP did. She has no use for those clothes and they either have been or will be returned. As for people going after her to "verify" this. I think that story is a bunch of crapola! I don't believe it. I have not seen a credible source to verity they haven't returned the items. This is probably like that anonymous coward who is trying to stir up trouble by saying Gov. Palin lost the election for the republicans. Gov. Palin did not lose the election for them. McCain did that all by himself (and GOP for even picking him, and GOP for not picking a different VP candidate). If anything Gov. Palin held it together. Everytime he started diving in the polls she would get out and give speeches and the debate, and his poll numbers would go up. People loved Gov. Palin. Others were just bitter or hateful.

She never "stepped over the limits", because the GOP was the ones who determined that her family had to hold the same image so they did what they needed. The GOP knew very well people would not vote for someone who's family is a jeans & t-shirt type of family. Image. That's all that anyone cares about and if the McCain camp had any chance at all the GOP knew they had to present an image to the public.

She and her family gave everything back. It will be (or has been) verified. People need to stop focusing on this petty insignificant issue and lets move ahead. We will never make this country great if the democrats keep focusing on Gov. Sarah Palin and what has happened in the past. The democrats are always screaming at us stop looking in the past. I read somewhere that this is why the democratic party will fail. Because they don't look ahead, they keep focusing on Palin and keep preferring to kick her while she is down. Leave the lady and her family alone. They've gone back home and you will not have to see them or hear from them again.
LOL. SHE will spend too much in govt?
nm
We don't have the money to spend.

That's the problem. They have to borrow the money from other countries. If they keep printing money like its going out of style, our money will have no value and you'll be taking a wheelbarrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread...if you can find a loaf of bread.

As you say, what part of that don't you understand?

Really? Then perhaps you should spend your time
reminding the posters who continue to say it ain't so, that Obama isn't really dropping those charges. Talk to them, the rest of us do not live in O land.
Totally against. You cannot spend and get
If you were in debt, what are you to do, I guess get more in debt. Then you beg your family and friends to bail you out and now you owe them plus your debt and it get worse and worse. Finally, bankrupt and could be out in the streets.

Well, isn't that what we are doing with Obama in office? Isn't that what we are doing with this stimulus, but now EVERYONE is involved?

By tomorrow, after this new TARP program comes out by our new treasury, we could be about 2 Trillion dollars in debt total, plus the 750 billion from the previous bailout. We need to pay off our debts and not create more!

I agree that cutting taxes may not have helped, but I believe some of us who are in this mess have done it to ourselves (me included). Some wanted a fancy car, better house, nicer things and we bought and bought (not all of us) and now our nation is running and functioning by being in debt.

Took an 8 hour Crown Ministry class and it was incredible. They have a website and they recommend not to call a credit counselor, but to call one of them and guess what, IT IS FREE and they tell you what to say to your creditors and how to set up a budget plan. I am paying off all my debts no matter how hard I work and getting rid of a car and going by a strict budget.

I believe if this stimulus goes through the way it is by spending and spending, well, the ugly head of inflation will appear. I do not want my credit cards to rise to 30-40% interest or have the bank say, cough up the money honey, nor do I want to pay 12.00 for half gallon of milk.
You should take your two cents and spend it on
Badly needed, I'm afraid.
by your logic you think we can spend sm
our way out of debt???????

There is no logic at all to that line of thinking.
Here's how to spend your tax rebate money

How to use the rebate:

As you may have heard the Bush Administration said each and every one of us would now get a nice rebate. If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China. If we spend it on gasoline it will all go to the Arabs, if we purchase a computer it will all go to India, if we purchase fruit and vegetables it will all go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala, if we purchase a good car it will all go to Japan, if we purchase useless crap it will all go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy.

We need to keep that money here in America, so the only way to keep that money here at home is to buy prostitutes and beer, since those are the only businesses still in the US.

You mean with all the time you spend posting on
Your hubs must make a wad, huh? Seeing as how you obviously dont work a lick.
How much time did you spend watching
the video and confirming every fact? I care about all this and read what I can, but that sounds borderline obsessive. JMHO of course.
Not so much minority, just not as much time to spend on it...
as some seem to have...

It has been my experience with 2 hospital jobs that I had, most of the women, probably 95%, were married and did not need to work. This is going back some 16 years, but it was reasonable back then. A lot of women I worked with talked about how they ocketed their pay in the bank and lived off the spouses pay and benefits.

Times have changed so much. I was a single, newcomer, who needed every penny I made because I lived week to week, but they would always vote down the benefits because they did not need them, and they always put me down all the time. Luckily, there were a few bright shining stars who were open, friendly, and helpful - who taught me SO much about transcription; but the majority, well, not so much.

My point is that our profession has one of the biggest class divisions I think I have ever seen or experienced.
