Chuckle, okay, now thanks for the support!

These posts are scary, are they not? I am now disinterested in this line of posts as there is nothing productive going on...just more complaints and whining about how awful MTs are and how high and mighty many QA people think they are.

Enjoy the air up there...and remember to have pity on us low-lifes once in a while because we are just too inane to know anything other than what you would tell us...

I used to laugh and think people were wackos until it happened to me while working in a bank. One other time was five years after my father died. I never cried but missed horribly. I was his "little girl." Five years later marriage was in the toilet and I awoke one night and saw him at the foot of my bed, never said a word, but I went back to sleep. I felt so much better in the morning, but I think that was because I was in such despair and needed him so much that I wanted to see him.
had to chuckle!
When I read your post, I had to chuckle because even though I do visit this site and I'm pro-AAMT, I'm in the minority.  I think that the reason why you see so much AAMT bashing is because most of the people on these kinds of sites do tend to complain about this, that, and everything with regards to this profession.  In other words, I don't see a whole lot of positive about anything!  I think the movers and shakers are out there doing their thing, trying to make a DIFFERENCE, and not wasting time posting on chat boards and thus why you don't see a lot of people jumping to defend AAMT here.  Again, just my humble opinion from an old MT.
Thanks--got a chuckle about this--

7-year meeting, huh?

Needed a laugh, too.  I just went by to drop off/pick up work, 10-12 miles one way, and the office is closed.  OM told me someone would be there until noon, even though they are closed on Fri afternoons!  Received no notice they were closing early today.  To clarify, I did work there as an employee until November 30 and been at home since then.  I guess I am a pushover--I've always tried to be cooperative and "nice" until I have a reason not to be.  Also, I don't have any other options right now.  However, I am going to present a short contract--I don't have any hope that it will be received very well, but I should stand up for myself, especially in the light of today's inconvenience.  Appreciate it--

Thanks for the chuckle!
You have no idea how funny that was to me. THANKS.

I hear people really tormented about trying to get down the impossible. You are exactly right.

:Blood out of turnip" is priceless!

Now back to the mind-nunbing ....

LOL! That was cute. Thanks for the chuckle.

ROFL! Thanks for the chuckle.
I needed it today.
Thanks to all... I did manage a chuckle or two
from your stories.  But why does it have to be like this?  Just because we work at home?  I think I will go on strike.  Just keep my office clean since that is the only place I get to be these days.  I have a reprieve from my second job tonight so I think I will just close my eyes, close my ears and shut off all other senses to the slobs I live with and leave for night for my women's group party I did not plan to go to.  Thank to all.
Re: Zero Samantha...I know, I got a chuckle out of that too..I must

be more boring than I thought!!

That episode was a hoot!  I loved it when she used the uh...new neck massager...in Brady's vibrating chair after it broke when she went to watch him while Miranda got her hair done...LOL!!

It did make me chuckle, though! nm

Dictation chuckle
"Her vision is poor.  That is why she does not see well."  Really!  That's what he said!
These are making me chuckle
I had a PA who would give us his name (he was Iranian), spell it, give his name and spell it again and then go on to the patient's name.  He'd spell that and give it to us three times.  Then he's give us the medical record number.  Something like this:   "MR # 123456.  That's 123456.  Again, that's 123456."  His dictations were office notes - for the other PAs those ran in the 3 minute range.  His were 7 or more because he repeated everything at least twice and sometimes three times.  We weren't sad when he left the practice to go work for the university teaching hospital.
Thanks for sharing that...chuckle, I loved it
I needed (another) good laugh...this is great!

I should just shut off the Expander when not working, but sometimes I forget...

thank you for accepting that we all make mistakes!

I really enjoyed this...
Just trying to give U a chuckle in your time of

more than a chuckle, a real smile -
I've been smiling for half an hour now (since you said it was just a line and not an insult). Thanks and have a good day.
this sentence by an ESL made me chuckle...

The patient is 69-years-old and has 6 children so far.

(so far!!)

This article was worth a chuckle

First laugh, GREAT side jobs.  Mor sobering:  Avg. 13.78 per hour.  Sad:  Pays less than a dog walker.  Arghhh!

gross (no message) did make me chuckle
xx
When I opened your message to read it, I saw something that made me chuckle. SM
At the top of the page, there was an ad defining Alzheimer's disease (with an apostrophe) from alzheimersconcern.com. We're probably the only one's following this new guideline. I wonder how many people read these apostropheless terms we are now mandated to transcribe and actually do think we're nuts. Even if it is correct, and I do understand the reasoning behind leaving the apostrophe off, it still doesn't help our image any, at least in my opinion. Just a thought.
Got my chuckle for the night, doc talking about breath sounds - sm
and how the lungs were clear, etc. then the next sentence is "the patient is currently not breathing", just funny after the previous sentences on his lung sounds.  Also diagnosed at age 2, however the child is only 14 months old, hmmm, nice trick there!  Presume he means 2-months but will have to question it though since he did not say!
Funny! Thanks for the chuckle! I was like, "Whoa, poor thing, started young"!!
You scared me!!!
Your error made me chuckle, which is, ya know, fitting for the error. Not a big deal, and no we ALL
make mistakes! Heavens! I remember starting out, I actually typed CABBAGE! Can you imagine?  Scary thing, though, is when you get an MT out 10 years and they type cabbage.  There are errors like yours, and there are major-absolutely-no-clue-of-our profession errors, which are mind boggling when you see them in print.  I've been on both sides, typing and proofing, and I never dreamed of the quantity and quality of errors some MTs make - HUGE errors.  That said, yes, we all make them, but its the ones who are unlearned and then arrogant when you point out the error - we have to, ya know, and its done kindly, so that they learn, and still that type of MT flips out and has a hissy! No win situation for both parties, really, as the MT really can't grow in the field if they aren't accountable to themselves even for their work.  I can't give more specific examples, as I could potentially hurt some MTs who would recognize their errors, but I assure you, some are unbelievable.
Thanks for your support!
I appreciate it!  and you are not "just" an MT...it is a noble profession. I am an MT, too, just have many years of experience.  I'm still proud to say that I am an MT

you could have left the negativity OUT!!! must be you've never been in a bad situation, lucky you

Thank you all for the support. My PCP's office called me back with the GYN appt. and I was talking to the nurse who works for him. She told me it showed ASCUS and to not worry too much about it.

Never having had anything abnormal come back before, I immediately began freaking out. It is nice to know you have the support of your online MT family to help calm your nerves. They must not be too worried about because I can't get in to the GYN for 3-1/2 weeks. I will try not to worry.

Thanks again!
He needs to support you more.
If this is going to make things better for you in your work area, then he should stand behind you 100%. I would just go get it. I just got one last week because my hands were hurting, and it has helped tremendously. I can't say I had to go through my husband though because when I said I thought I could use one, he said you should got get one. I understand sometimes income isn't always there and other things are more important and it's always nice to feel like your husband is behind you, so I would try talking to him again and trying to make him see things from your point of view. Hope you made any sense of out this! Thanks and good luck!
another support
When I worked for a hand specialist he always recommended Comfort Cool splints for DeQuervain. I type in them every day and they are very comfortable. Good Luck!
Thank you so much for your support
It means a lot.
support
For many of us who are working alone all day this is a wonderful way to connect not only on a work level but on a social level.  I see no harm in supporting and helping each other in a public forum such as this. It has often helped me tremendously both with work issues and for general discussions to help make my day better !
Thank you to everyone for your support!
You guys reminded me what a great support system we have in place here. I really appreciate all of your advice and support in the matter and after talking it over with my husband I am going to pursue legal action. I worked very hard to get my Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and medical transcription provided me the income to do it. I am currently enrolled in the Master's program and with the 10 years of MT experience and owning my own service for four years, I feel as though I was qualified for the position (he must have felt the same way to give me the job in the first place). However, I disagree with the "seasoned" poster below who thinks that only someone with 25 years of experience can manage a team of MTs. I believe that to be completely untrue and unfounded and I am sorry she/he has such a narrow minded attitude on the subject that she/he feels as though they should be so argumentative with every poster. Thanks guys for giving me a boost of encouragement on a really really bad day yesterday when all I wanted to do was hide under the covers. I wrote that post after getting up at 4 a.m. and driving almost 10 hours all day. Thanks for lift.
do you support yourself
and pay your own bills? That's motivation enough for me ! Take lots of breaks or take a few days off if you need to. If you really don't need the money, then it's easier to let yourself get distracted.
Thanks for the support

Thank you both for writing back.  I have written the BBB, but as the parent company is in Canada, I also wrote theirs - along with the Attorney General internet fraud department (state and national), the Consumer Protection Agency, the FTC, the AAMT and their school accrediation director, and my mother.  I'm just in shock that they had the nerve to wipe out my grades!  But you're right - I also need to contact a lawyer so they can't do this to others.  The sad thing is that I'm a nice, quiet person, else I wouldn't have waited six weeks to throw a fit.  Anyway, thanks for responding - I need kind words and a nice glass of wine!!

Thanks for the support, all (sm)

You know what's funny, is that every time I post I end up getting one semi-uncalled-for response, and it's always from a person by the same name!

I had one lady email me saying that I "could be arrested" for writing a check knowing I didn't have money in the account. Ummm... No. That's why I have overdraft protection, like I said in my original post. I'm okay this morning, but I was a total sobbing mess last night and I think I made that pretty clear in my post.  So someone emails me after I already said that I had overdraft protection and tells me that I could get arrested?  And it's always the same person?

Geez, lady. Way to kick someone who is already down.  (And I've never heard of anyone being arrested for using their overdraft protection!)  There's at least one jerk on every message board, though, right?

But to the rest of you... THANK YOU!

Thanks for the support. ... sm
I may not be "Norma Rae", but she had the right idea. If we could put together 10 MTs who were willing to be on the front line and form some type of "committee" to go to our congressmen and such, maybe we could start the ball rolling toward better working conditions and change things. It really does come down to this: Every day you have a choice. Choice A - do nothing. Choice B - do something to change what's wrong. I'd rather go out doing something than nothing. Maybe I'm going to have to be Norma Rae after all, but I'd sure like a few extras to be there with me.

You know, the Amber Alert System was started by a little girl's mom who wouldn't stop until she got it across the USA. When she couldn't take the murder of her child, she did something about it.

Any MTs who are interested, email me and we'll put our collective intelligence together and see what we can do to improve things. Somebody's got to care enough to do something. At this point, no one else is going to bat for us; we must help ourselves.

It does take support. (sm)

My husband used to try to deter me from doing what I am doing now, but he has seen my mood drop and my countenance become sort of bitter over the last couple of years and it really worried him.  He said if it would make me happy, to do it.  It took awhile, but he is all for it now--especially on the days when I actually bring in a couple of hundred dollars from what I am doing.  It's harder on the days when I make about 25 cents.

Thank you all for your support!
There have been so many e-mails and posts about my situation with my family and their lack of understanding that I do "work".  Only those of you here truly understand.  I don't know if there are words quite special enough to say here, but I feel so much better after having heard all the comments.  A great big thanks to all of you.  So glad you are all here!   Hugs!!!!!!!!!  I will survive!!!  Loved the post referring to Sylvia Browne!  Thank you for reminding me of her.  I so love her books.  I have almost all of them.  When I read her work I always feel better.  The post regarding what she would say -- so true.  Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Can't state that enough here.
Thanks, I appreciate the support

It seems there are several of us who feel this way about this. I knew I couldn't be the only one. As for the crabby posts and the hate mail I got this evening, I'm not concerned. There are always one or two in the bunch who are wound too tight. But WOW, you'd think I just shot their puppy or something, huh? What can you do. I'm just happy that it's their problem and not mine.

support - or not
Hey, I was sticking up for you - I said it FMLA can definitely be abused and everybody else pays for it - go back and read my post!
Thanks for the support
I can agree with you on that -they are young - we are not so young - and sometimes that is detrimental to the job search. Plus, after 15 years I have not kept up with office skills (I never thought I would work in an office again) and I really do not want to return to school, although I have thought about coding. However, my son wants me to go to work for one of the airlines so that he can fly for free - he is not really thinking about what is best for me, but what will be of benefit for him.
Thanks for the support!
She's not a horrendous speller, but like every new specialty you learn, the lingo is different.
PC support
Looking for a recommendation for a good/reliable/reputable on-line PC support company.  I work from home on my own PC and it would be nice to have technical support w/o having to disconnect PC and take it somewhere.  Would appreciate any suggestions (I hope I'm on the correct board; I'm new to this)
CHILD SUPPORT??

Can ANYONE give me some legitimate service who goes after "deadbeat dads"????  I'm at the end of my emotional rope, and my state (Oklahoma) has not helped much in nailing down this butthead ('cuse my French)....I've talked to a few "services" which IF they get anything from him, they will probably take 60-70% of it!!!    Has anyone had any luck anywhere??  Why do these guys (and I'm sure there are gals out there too!) get away with not supporting their kids???

Sorry to vent  ...I type for a living (like you) and beating this keyboard sometimes helps me feel better!  Thanks for listening (reading ??)....

child support
Believe me, deadbeat moms are very prevalent, moreso than people think.  I know from personal experience that these moms rather spend their money on themselves than send even the tiny amount they are required by law to send to their child, all the time professing how much they love their children.
Child Support

We have a newer prosecuter in one of our local county's who started a new program to go after deadbeat parents.  3 times a year, she post the pictures of the worst offenders on the front pages of the newpapers, along with how much they owe...usually has a pretty good rate of call in's to report seeing them.  She's also working extremely hard to get the state to NOT renew drivers lisc. on any of those who are over 2,000 in arrears.

My sister finally got the attention of our prosecuter when her ex got close to 30 grand, the folks at CS just did not seem to have a working phone or at least one they answered, so they went after him, showed up in court, the magistrate took all of 10 minutes to look over the files...asked the idiot and the prosecuter if he had a working wage deduction in place (which he did on paper), and then said...Well he has the wage order in place, so case over

Now how the heck do you think he got to the 30 grand mark if the wage order was working........duh  Good luck, been there before and glad mine has paid on time.

Re: tech support
I don't know if it gets back to our supervisors, but I wish it would get back to theirs! What I do now is tell the "real winner" support person that I have to hang up suddenly. Then, I call right back. I suddenly get a different one who is a whiz and very helpful. It's worth the hang-up and call back unless you have to wait 45 minutes for the next "helpful tech." ;-)

I guess I've been lucky when I've had to call them. I always speak to an "Americanized" accent. Believe me, if I get someone I can't understand, I complain and gripe until someone comes on that I CAN understand, after all, I'M the customer :-)
I support myself with just one company right now
Hi.  Right now I'm able to make ends meet pretty well with just one company, but for the last year I have hopped through several - 3-4 at least - barely able to make ends meet.  Keep moving, keep trying more companies until you find a good one.  They are out there.  Don't give up!
be sure you get child support

It might not be much, but it will help. I didn't have the option of working fulltime from home when my son was small, so I had to put him in daycare. Found a reasonable sitter who was very reliable. But to supplement my day income, I did work part-time at night. I fed him, helped him with homework, bathed him and then put him down for bed and THEN went to work at home, many nights until 1 a.m.God gives us strength to get through things when we need it, cause I certainly don't think I could do it now! It will not be easy for you with 2 young children, but it can be done. It will require sacrifices, but don't sacrifice time with your children or time for yourself! Do a lot of praying.  God Bless and I wish you the best. Keep a support group around you as much as possible.

Shorthand support will help you with your

abbreviations conversions but you will have to add the SmartBlocks manually.  The good news about this, though, is that ShortHand has a feature where you can name your abbreviation and list the file location of that SmartBlock (ex:  C:/Smartype/Blocks/____)  to pull it into your document, thereby not having to retype or copy/paste all your SmartBlocks into Shorthand.  When I converted ST to SH, I think I only lost perhaps 26 of 14,300 abbreviations.
