I would inspect the house to find where those buggers could be getting in and plug the holes up yourself!
I had a snake in the house once and was totally creeped out. I lost sight of him but luckily found him again. I pinned him with the broom but then didn't dare grab him so had my daughers run and get the neighbor guy. Lol.
It is too easy for them to hide (who knows where) and come out when you don't expect it. They can scare off other snakes from OUTSIDE if that's what your husand thinks they do. :)
I lived in a holey cabin for years and got squirrels, chipmonks, bats, bees, and the snake and finally went around and stapled screening over every hole I could find!
