I would do like I said and tell the old geezer to knock it off right in front of mom.  You don't have to say something like, "look, you old SOB keep your flipin hands to yourself."   I'd say something like, "look, "John," I've always been a touch-me-not kind of person and I would rather you not hug...kiss...fondle me in this way, it makes me very uncomfortable."  If you say it in front of Mom and she hasn't noticed his perversion, it will call it to her attention without making her angry.  Maybe she just hasn't paid any attention to how he acts.  My husband would be in for a good killing if I caught him making lewd and obscene gestures or remarks to my daughters and she'll probably feel the same way toward "John" if it is brought to her attention.  If this doesn't work then I'd tell him in no uncertain terms that if he did it again I was going to knock his block off and I'd do it.   To bring it up to Mom  personally I would think would make HER feel very uncomfortable and she might lash out at you.

Anyhow, good luck and I hope you get the old coot put in his place.  There's no use in old men trying to act like their can do can keep up with their want to.
