I agree, doing nothing is usually interpreted as condoning the actions/behaviors.

I also agree that the OP needs to stand up for HERSELF - not get her husband to fight her battles.

OP, you need to just tell him, in the presence of your mother, "Knock it off, Herman." Chances are that is all you'll need to do. If have to,practice saying it out loud 100 times until you are able to say it to him.

Do not let him bully you.

I had to learn to stand up for myself, so I know how it is hard, but believe me, it is well worth the effort - overcome your fear. If he were doing that to your mother, sister, or daughter, you won't let it go on, would you?
