Woo! Wow! little noises on this site....
I am hearing these little noises as well....I have heard 3 of them today on this website. I kept trying to figure out what was going on...so I kept checking my IM, but it definitely was a Woo or a Wow noise coming from this site!!!!
Very cute little sound if you ask me! :)
the mouth noises!!!
I hate it when they are sitting there thinking about what they want to say and are moving their tongue around in their mouth so it sounds like they are sucking or smacking!
Just turn it off and wait for the electricity to dissipate and then clean it and turn it back on. nm
:
Most men can't hear the tiny tings, noises that cars make, and things like
an alarm clock.  A doctor I used to work for did the same thing in the bathroom too.  But, I never heard a plop! Thank Goodness.
Turn down such low low offers, turn industry around. sm
The way to figure is how many lines an hour do you do. There are 13 lines characters in a line (65 line length)
So say you TRY to average 4 pages an hour say 34 lines a page equal 139 lines, times your line rate.
139 X 4 cents a line = $5.56 an hour

and what if you don't do 4 pages even less.

MTing hourly hourly output is not very predictablel, so ya never know and predict what you can put out each hour.
THE WAY TO TURN THE INDUSTRY AROUND IS TO SPEAK UP, SAY 'NO' THAT IS TOO LOW AND GIVE SHORT EXAMPLE.

If the MTs continue to accept, that is what the going rate will continue to be. Yes, Yes, it will. Just keep looking. Email for general lowest to highest line rate prior to testing and resume, just say it saves time on both sides and it DOES. Why waste time. Soon, the message will get out there.
Turn off puter, wait a min, turn on with delete key pressed down, then hit delete key NUMEROUS times

Just for giggles this winter sm
I used my electric potpourri pot with some liquid potpourri added to the water. I helped out tremendously while adding a nice scent to the air.  It didn't toss out white dust like my cheapie humidifier did and the noise of a running humidifier wasn't there either.  I also put bowls of water in front of the register in both winter and summer for a little humidity.
Winter wonderland in NH
I guess we are supposed to get about 10 inches.  Its awful to say this but I had no idea it was even going to snow, I've been so busy lately working and doing errands that I haven't watched TV.  It was a shock to me when my neighbor called and said the kids were getting out of school early today because of the weather, I looked out side and was like why, it wasn't even snowing :)  Oh well, its the start of my weekend so I guess I can't really complain...stay warm!
is this the writing on the wall for us? is there nothing we can do??
are we being sold-out by our own profession?
I saw the writing on the wall with them
More than 2 years ago I decided to quit lining their pockets with my hard-earned money to support their "garden party" mentality and grossly overpriced coferences that are too expensive for the average MT to attend (come on, do we really need an annual meeting in Hawaii???). I dropped my membership after more than 10 years of seeing no action, hearing of secret meetings, never ending in-fighting, and just a general attitude of them thinking it was up to the average working MT to support their grand "hobby" of being a board member while they sat around accomplishing nothing year after year.
s-wall of bladder
In a laser lithotripsy report I'm hearing, "gravel from prior S-wall in the bladder" and "pieces down there from prior S-wall". I know there is no S-wall, so what could it be? Thanks!
Hitting the wall

Hi fellow MTs:

Just wanting opinions.  I find some days, my fingers/brain are really "on" with transcribing, but then I have other days, where reaching my line count is a struggle.  Obviously, I'd prefer to all "on" days and I'm wondering if any of you have suggestions on being "on" more than off.

Thanks in advance and happy typing!

Hitting the wall
Thanks to my fellow MT's for these suggestions. I'll have to try the classical music.

Have a great day!
Could this be the writing on the wall for the US MTs...

Whoever is responsible for this current economy in my opinion has just done us in...

This is from an Indian company (if you go to their site check out their job openings, all in India)

See below:

With the economy in the US showing ‘no’ signs of recovery and with the ‘fourth’ largest bank going bust, companies which earlier had said an emphatic ‘no’ to outsourcing, will have to rethink.

High Capital Costs

The burgeoning ‘operational’ costs a company based in the US incurs for basic back office functions such as payroll processing, accounting, distribution and other important functions adds to the high capital cost of a product or service rendered by companies there.

A new ‘strategy’

A new mind-set is the need of the hour; entrepreneurs need to harness new technologies, outsource assembly lines across the globe to offset the high labor costs  at home, this trend adopted by some of the companies a couple of years ago has turned the corners for them, ever since they started moving some of their tasks to overseas companies based in India, operational cost were reduced by one third.

Internet the ‘messiah’

The vast avenues of communication made possible by Internet has made it possible for enormous levels of information that is exchanged, unlike the pre-Internet days where communication was possible only through a telephone, a fax or a personal face-to-face meeting, now entire board room meetings can be held on the Internet regardless of the physical presence of members.

Cost ‘benefits’ of outsourcing

When a company based in the US ships a $14 to $15 an hour transcription job assignment to India where a transcriber is paid just $1 an hour, consider the cost benefits the company will receive, in comparison to the in-house service maintained by the company.

How will ‘US’ benefit from outsourcing

US companies will be able to enjoy reduced costs, and the large profits that will result can be re-invested in new ventures or expanding the existing ones, thus the outsourced new contractors can in fact create new markets for American products, and displaced US workers will have the opportunity to find newer jobs in vibrant new enterprises. The US companies will have the advantage of developing newer products with better features and thus antiquated products or services can be handled by the ‘contracted’ offshore companies.

Advantage of a different time zone of an ‘offshore’ company :

The operations of a US based company will never come to a stand-still, even after the staff has left for the day, the off-shore company based in India will take over and complete your unfinished task, thus projects get a round-the-clock attention, giving the companies an effective lead in completing projects with a quick turn-around-time. Client is therefore assured of an ‘on time’ delivery of his project, and in the bargain the company will have the benefit of maintaining the customer retention ratio.

Why choose ‘transcriptionstar.com’ as your vendor

As a transcription company we have the process expertise and an effective track record of experience and knowledge, we also are very flexible in adapting to newer technologies and since our operations are India based, where employ wages are one fifth of the their counterpart’s in US, an effective price advantage can raise profit margins of US companies to new heights.

Avert ‘Costs’ from sneaking up and corrode ‘Savings’:

medicaltranscriptionsservice.com can effectively ensure that companies outsourcing transcription requirements to us can save 40% to 50% on costs, whether it is for applications for Business Transcriptions, Media Transcriptions, Legal Transcriptions or Medical Transcriptions, we are the ‘source’  that you can ‘outsource’ and avert costs from sneaking up and corrode savings.

Advantage outsourcing from India:

With a vast reservoir of English speaking university graduates and a vibrant democracy, India can virtually ‘clone’ the operations of US companies at one fifth of the cost, and still maintain the standards of quality required by clients in the US, remember it is time to act now than wait, ‘outsourcing’ is the solution.

Writing on the Wall
I went to their website.  I could not find any link for job openings nor could I find any of this text on their website.  Where did it come from, am I missing something?
Nope, it's seasonal. Aug. 31 through winter.
/
It sounds as if the writing is on the wall where you are now so...
It might be a good time to move to a national. Many of them do offer benefits, and if you are fast and accurate, you can make okay money. It might be just what you need if you are as stressed at work as it sounds like you are. I do like having my own private bathroom, being able to work in shorts and T-shirts, and take breaks when I need to. My final decision to work from home came when my last boss started monitoring the time we spent in the bathroom!
I think the writing was pretty much on the wall on
The docs who don't know anything about what we do, or it's value, and only see now many cpl they pay, should probably be dropped as soon as you can find a better account to replace them, not waiting 'til they drop you.

I've always believed very strongly that the complaining customer that always wants a deal, but doesn't EARN that deal, is not worth having. I'm sure he was alot more trouble to type for than what he was worth. 10 cents per 65-character line is the very least any of us should accept. If a doc ever tries to gyp me down to a 9 cpl, I'll tell him that's too bad, and to give me a call when he comes up with that extra penny.
I have to vent! ASR is driving me up the wall!
When I was started on ASR, I was told it was strictly "voluntary" and that if I did it, I would get a "mixture" of ASR reports and straight MT.  Well, not the case.  Now everyone has to learn ASR and every report I get is ASR-- even the most horrible of horrible dictators.  I keep fixing the same mistakes over and over and ASR has "learned" nothing from the corrections.  I still think it is all a ploy to put ALL the dictators on it, no matter how bad they are, just so we will make the same per line as the Indians.  My last shift, I had exactly ONE very short report that was not on ASR and all the rest were.  Just as soon as I can find another job, I am out of MT altogether.  They have totally ruined what used to be a good profession with all their "progress".  Well, they can have it!
YIKES!!!Got our oil contract for this winter and almost passed out!!!

Last year I paid $845 for  600 gal of oil with a 2 months to pay. Yesterday, I recieved our contract for this winter and it would cost $1517!!!!!

Guess who won't be taking the contract.  That's ridiculous. The country is going to go broke at this rate. They want $759 for 300 gallons. That takes us 3 months into the winter, but......where do they think the seniors  and others are going to get this money?

Guess old Mamma Bear is coming out of storage this year. Wood is no problem for us. We have a stockpile for the garage coal & wood stove and a friend that has 11 acres of woods he likes certain areas cleared every year.

I feel bad for others who have no access to another heating source.

Anybody go south for winter and continue working?

Hubby and I are thinking of going south for the first time this coming winter.  I've found some sublets with internet access, mostly wireless, one wired.  My work uses DocQScribe and internet based.   I use a desktop computer for work but have a laptop capable of the job.

Have any of you done this?  If so, what was your experience?  Any tips or precautions as far as wireless internet security?  At home we have a wired network with a hardware firewall/router so no experience with wireless.  I'm not high tech but not a complete novice either.

As for paying bills and accessing cash in a different locale, did you use online banking and ATMs or some other method?  I confess some hesitation about online banking even though most of my friends and neighbors have used it for years!

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Liver protruding through the abdominal wall
My father just had an MRI and it shows that his liver is protruding though the abdominal wall.  He has a hugh "bump" on his right side, sort of like a hernia.  The doctor is baffled by this and says that she has never seen anything like it before.  Has anyone ever heard of this happening?
We just signed up for our propane for winter.. It's gone up a dollar per gallon...
from last year.  There is no shortage of propane as far as I know.  They just raise the price because they can.  We're paying 1.89 per gallon.  Thank goodness we have 2 wood stoves, but I'm sure a cord of wood will double too. . You can't win.
Space heaters can be very expensive as I found out one winter
by just trying to heat my office and leaving the reest of house cold. The cost to use the space heater was more than the gas furnace would ahve been.
Ya know, winter doesn't officially start until tomorrow

And, I'm already tired of the cold,

tired of all the snow,

but my kids love it and I can't move.

Then consider the heat bill.....now I'm crying

Only during the summer. Wild colored toe socks in winter.
;-D
Work some holidays - don't really mind during the winter months, but
when summer rolls around, I am at the beach on the holidays and do not work them. As an IC, we get nothing extra as far as $$ just the extra work.

Can't complain - have plenty of work all of the time.
Yes - it was explained to me that this happens when the egg implants in the uterine wall. The blood
Had this with all of my pregnancies.
Wall painting faux finish techniques sm
Has anyone ever done their walls in a faux finish technique?  I have a rather large room inhabited by my husband and the 2 dogs in the evening while I work, a big screen t.v., a beige fireplace, beige and hunter green wood look vinyl tile on the floor and hunter green furniture. One wall is paneled in a pecan paneling as it couldn't be done any other way. This room was an add on to the house. Right now the walls are a gray color but am looking to paint it something different, something that might not show the splotches caused by the dogs shaking their wet fur on occasion and fingerprints around the switches.  I found the softly aged walls technique on the HGTV web site were you use 2 colors and a divided roller and divided pan. I kind of like the look and it looks fairly easy for me to do.  Anyone have any ideas?
So you DO have a moose-head hanging from the wall of your trailer?
walked right into that one, Ellie Mae!
I heard crickets til I realized it was winter. Was really the start of chronic
:=
I've beat my head against the wall trying to make a decent

the ESLs, I can't get much past 1200 lines daily anymore.  Anyone else in the same boat?

How are you planning to deal with the oncoming high winter heating bills?
I'll be bumping the thermostat back another degree or 2, down to whatever leveI I can  not be cold at.  Otherwise there will be less "fun" money spent if it has to go to the oil companies!
The HandEze gloves are nice w/the wrist support. I like them in the winter. Other brands to

I use regular thin winter gloves and cut the fingertips off. Works great! nm

I want my bread crumbs white so I let them dry up in the open overnight (winter brings low humidity)
a very good way not to waste stale bread (aside from pudding).
common sense dictates you read the writing on the wall. technology has made you obsolete.
and the government has seen to it that american workers are no longer necessary and allows business to outsource many middle income jobs.
Ugh.... Please don't fall for ....

this boloney!  I firmly believe that WE are creating this explosion in cases of ADHD.  The child is FOUR YEARS OLD and not developmentally ready for "school work."  In my day we went to kindergarten as our first school experience.  The emphasis was learning to be part of a group, socializing appropriately, listening to the teacher, retelling stories, and basically learning HOW to be a student.  We didn't even start reading until 1st grade.  I was reading at 2nd year college level in the 9th grade.   I know that's not how it's done anymore, but it should.  A child that age learns through play.  A few kids pick up reading at 4 or 5, but it shouldn't be forced.  Some kids don't blossom with reading until 2 grade, and it's perfectly okay.  Studies show that children pushed early on academics compared to children who are not pushed are equal by about 3rd grade, showing that the early pushing does nothing long-term towards academic success.  Reading TO your preschooler, providing stimulating play, and opportunities for socialization with other children is all they need.  I would personally find a preschool that has that belief as opposed to pushing the academics.  Your child was a newborn baby 4 years ago and now she's suppose to be doing worksheets and learning to read and do math?  I don't think it's right.

It was 24 yrs this fall, though no all of that is MT nm

Fall is my favorite
Summer is too hot!! Fall is just right and football starts!
Another vote for fall

Fall TV shows
I love to watch House. It comes on the Fox channel. It was on Tuesday's last season. Not sure yet when it will be on coming up on the new season.
Now that fall is here and I'm having to use heat my
face is dry and itchy.   I've started using a humidifier to add moisture in the air, but I need a lotion too.  I have very sensitive skin too.   I've used several OTC lotions and they haven't helped much.   Looking for a good moisturizer for all over, but mostly for the face.
Yes, but only after I fractured it off in a fall. sm
Had a Colles fx of the radius, too. Now, if I rest my wrist the wrong way, I feel the ulnar styloid pain. You probably should get yours checked out to see if anything can be done to help. I truly feel your pain!

Fall Branch, TN, but...sm
Florida bound if we ever sell this farm!
Wow, hair fall???
I have some problems, but sure can't attribute hair fall to MT work?!!! Have that checked out, please!

My problems are: Aches and pains here and there, swollen ankles/feet (sometimes severe), and I do believe my eyesight has changed some in the past few years due to computer usage.
No fall out from me, I agree with you
People that are complaining are the ones from home, started out at home, after graduating from an online school that promised them the big bucks. Get real training (2-year degree), train at a hospital first, get your lines up, and then venture out on your own. I bet that is how the non-complainers on here did it. They were confident in their skills and line count before trying to venture out on their own. If I had done an online school, worked at a national for a year, made 100 lines an hour, I would think this career sucks too! So instead they are here crabbing. If I spent as much time on these boards complaining about the industry, I wouldn't be making any money either. Get over it, quit complaining, and get to work! I didn't even know our industry "sucked" (as so many people think it does) until I came here and read posts. Get over it or get out! It is sooooo getting old hearing about it. Same crap, different day! Can anyone tell me about an online forum where the real professionals are. I can't handle MTStars anymore. Good bye!
I fall into that category
I've been at this over 25 years. In its heyday, I have W2s showing 65-70,000. Yeah, I worked easily 55-60 hours a week, but at least I felt I had something to show for it. I'm putting the same hours at the desk, but only making a third of it now, between the lowered wages and the lack of work. I'm too old to learn an entire newly career (I'd be dead by the time I finished any lengthy course), nor do I make enough money to pay for anything; most of the time I have a hard enough time keeping the utilities on, let alone the money for classes of any sort.

I don't where the $31,000+ is being made for an 8 hour shift 5 days a week, but please point me in that direction.
How much did your income fall?
NM
Ever heard the old saying if you dont believe in something, you'll fall for anything? while you sit
people are having true experiences that make them have hope and belief that there is something more out there.  With that attitude of yours, you're going straight to limbo!
