and no more credit, bad debts and loans killed the economy and Wall Street. Just providing for our 3 kids and making ends meet is the daily challenge, but we have each other and a good extended family, I so hope that the good thing that comes out of this crisis is LESS MATERIALISM in this country, back to simpler living and being happy with less!

Right on! We paid off our modest house/cars. We

Yeah, but wouldn't it be great if they paid your mortgage?
Apparently, you have no problem with charity if it begins at "home."
sooo...you WERE there, and you DO know?
If you will do search, there are a lot more snippets and sermons to be found on the internet. If you will read up on black liberation theology...which is the cornerstore of Trinity Church....if you really care that is, you will see what Obama is about. Wright thinks Louis Farrakhan is a great man. Know much about the Nation of Islam? About Farrakhan? Does Obama's associations with radical leftist socialist not bother you? Does the fact that he believes in redistribution of wealth (socialist to the point of being Marxist) not concern you in the least?
RON PAUL IS SOOO RIGHT!

This is why the powers that be behind the scenes made sure Ron Paul didn't get proper media coverage and couldn't get his message out there........too many agendas in governments around the world.  We do need to keep our butts out of this......no matter what happens, the middle east will always and has always been fighting.  Surely the U.S. doesn't think WE will be able to suddenly stop all that.  All we are doing is making matters worse by taking sides at this point.  If Israel feels the need to counter attack or invade the gaza strip, regardless, we need to stay out of it.  Let them do what they need to do and we need to stay out.

That is SOOO cute!

Kinda like the one about the redneck that starved to death because he hid his food stamps under his work boots?  Oh yeah, that's just WAAAY too funny!

LOL and sooo true!
xx
I am sooo sick of hearing...
that Obama will do things "because he's black."  What kind of reasoning is this?  Did we forget that he's just as much white as he is black?  What makes him more black than he is white?  Did anyone notice that he was raised in a white environment, with little contact with his father?  Is he not a product of his environment?  Calling this man black OR white discredits his heritage and does nothing but show the racism that is so obviously alive and well in the US!
Canning is sooo easy.
Just moved from a city with a population of around 4 millon to a suburb in Oregon. I live about 1 to 4 miles away from 6 farms and we have lots of Farmer Markets around. I pick all my produce and flowers from these farms during summer and fall months. I have learned how to can strawberries, peaches, blackberries, marionberries, raspberries, pears, plum jam, fig jam, tomatoes, pickles, and applesauce. Also have plenty of nuts.

I also have a huge pantry now stocked with paper products, canning good, potatoes, staple items. I tend to worry about inflation coming or even a depression.

I have been told I am a "horrible mean hoarder" on this board, but in reality, I love to help others. In fact, I am a member of the CERT and help out neighbors, family, and friends and my community, ESPECIALLY during a time like this when we know of special people and families who are hurting because of job layoffs. Our neighborhood has families with all kind of special skills and if we need to, ever down the road, we can all come together and what do you call it, bartering? We have mechanics, doctors, IT, nurses, financial, business owners, police officers, etc., and we all come together to help each other out.

Anyway, canning is very, very easy. Should try it. It is fun and I also have canning goods that I give away as Christmas gifts and people in my area and family and friends outside of the state of Oregon just LOVE these as gifts. It really saves money too all the way around.
I agree, sooo, then why is all the work
It is cheaper too.
sooo Hillary is pushing for this electronic

not sure exactly what she means by that but that sounds scary for our profession.  Anybody got the 411 on this?

Those doggone Israelis are just sooo touchy...
I mean they get angry just because Hamas randomly shoots missles into their cities so I understand the outrage from the media.

I agree with this commentary

"This is really so completely ridiculous. For days the Muslim Hamas goons in Gaza launch rockets at Israeli civilians. The "Arab world" is quiet. Then Israel retaliates and the "Arab World' suddenly goes nutso. How long do we tolerate this asinine double standard?

Where was the Arab world when those rockets were being fired at innocent Israelis? Sitting on their butts and shutting the h@!! up, that's where .. and the same goes for much of the oh-so-enlightened European Union. Then Israel retaliates and the world is coming to and. Everybody tells Israel to be careful about causing civilian casualties. Do any of you remember "the world" telling Hamas to be careful about where they aim those rockets? Did "the world" warn Israelis about civilian casualties among the so-called "Palestinians?"

Hamas tells Israel that if they don't stop their assault then Hamas is going to resort to suicide bombings. Are you believing this? Hamas feels free to fire rockets indiscriminately into the Israeli civilian population. They're telling Israel that if it tries to stop them from playing with their rockets, they'll move on to suicide bombs. In other words ... the message is that Israel just has to endure the rocket attacks and do nothing in return.

Israel is to be admired here. They have a civilian population to protect, and the h@!! with world opinion. When "the world" shows as much concern for innocent Israelis dying under Hamas rocket barrages as it does for Palestinians, then maybe Israel will listen.

First of all......GM cars are not

crappy cars.  I've had several GM vehicles that I've run the wheels off of.  My whole family buys nothing but GM vehicles and we all prefer them over other vehicles.  Secondly, the reason GM started to build bigger vehicles that used more gas was because gas wasn't so expensive then and that is what the consumers wanted was bigger SUVs, trucks, etc.  People didn't start to complain until gas prices went through the roof.

GM was fine until the economy took a crap.  When the economy was booming they could afford big salaries for CEOs and paying the union loads of money, etc.  They could afford the legacy costs, health care, and pensions.  Now since no dealer is having much luck selling vehicles, it is kind of hard to pay for all those expenses when people can't buy vehicles, are too afraid to buy vehicles, or are dumb enough to buy foreign pieces of crap instead.

Candidates cars
This was fun to read

JM = 2 cars registered; CM = 11 cars registered ------->> sm
John McCain can't even raise his arms above his shoulders to comb his hair. He barely drives, if at all. Cindy does most of the driving, as she has said in the past.

Cindy is a multimillionaire. John is not.

So what?

Doesn't anyone wonder how Barack and Michelle Obama gets to and from work and kid stuff with only one car?

My bet is someone has limo service paid by the tax payer.

Maybe JM does too, who knows and who cares??????

This story is a whole lot of nothing, designed to make all the little people (of which I am one, although doesn't bother me).....up in arms because someone with a rich wife has a lot of money and a lot of cars.

SO WHAT!!!!!!!

Sheesh.....like this is really newsworthy......

Chinese cars....
Did anyone see the video of the chinese car crash test? Don't think I will be buying any Chinese made car. The crash test dummy was demolished. the car crumbled like a tin can in a can crusher.
Foreign cars are not better or cheaper.

If they are cheaper it is because they are literally that....cheaper cars.  You pay for what you get.  I've seen so many American made cars throughout my family where they have put 200,000+ miles on vehicles and they keep going.  I've driven so many different types of vehicles since my husband runs a car dealership and I have to say that American trumps foreign any day in my opinion.  I will NEVER own a foreign car.  Ain't happenin.  You will more than likely see my happy butt in a Chevy of some type.  I'm currently driving a Chevy Uplander and I friggin LOVE it!  I have no problem telling someone their vehicle is a foreign piece of crap.  In fact, I recently told my best friend's sister that was what her Honda was.  LOL!

Toyota and Honda build cars in the USA

Didn't you know that? They have been here for years. Do you hear them begging for a bailout? Nope. Because they build decent cars.

The 3 big ones didn't bother to take heed during the last gas crunch and didn't learn a dang thing. If they did, we would have good cars now. GM built a good motor; the V6 3 liter engine. Our Old's Delta 98 (big luxury car)  V6 got 30 MPH. Our Buick LeSabre gets 28 MPH. Why didn't they put those engines in all their cars?

Because the AMERICAN PEOPLE wanted big, bad SUVs and V8 engines. So...if you want to sell cars, you build what people want.

Just like political arena, as soon as something goes wrong in America, they blame the president. As soon as high gas prices hit, they blamed the car companies and turn their backs on them and now they're in a mess. BUT, it doesn't mean they shouldn't have been working on alternate energy cars. Prius, made by Toyota, has been out for a few years now; 48 MPH.  Can't buy one now because that's what everybody wants. Yet when they first came out, hardly any takers.

So, it's not all the fault of the president or car companies. Think about it.

Stop importing foreign cars won't help a bit

People in this country want them because they get better gas mileage. Like I said before, Toyota has plants here in America and they are doing good.

The problem with the big 3 is they sat back and forgot about the past (1970s gas crunch), not into the future. They got a winner with those big SUVs and decided, "Hey, let's concentrate on all the big SUVs, big V8s, etc. That's what the American people want" and they did want them.

Car dealers are falling by the wayside in large numbers because of the problems, too. Lots of them are closing because they can't hang on any longer.

People have been buying foreign cars
for years.  What does that have to do with losing our jobs due to fewer patient visits to doctors or hospitals?  Actually, a lot of so-called American-made cars are made in Mexico, like the PT Cruiser.  In fact, a lot of cars are made in Mexico because of cheap labor, including VW.
Here is a link. Proud to own american made cars.

I agree that we need to buy American made products, in particular cars...
but that entails the idea that we can make cars just as affordable as foreign companies.  Right now we have the same problem here as we do with the oil industry.  Huge tax breaks for foreign industry and we can't compete.
Why should we pay your mortgage?
Why on earth should the people who were smart enough not to jump on the bandwagon and buy a bigger house than they could afford give a 30% mortgage decrease to the people who went hog wild and spent above their means? I am not a homeowner, by choice, and I am totally against giving anyone a decrease on a mortgage that they agreed upon when they purchased their home. You make a mistake, you pay the consequences!
Mortgage
Somebody who cannot afford to buy a house should not buy a house, bedasue they do not want to lose out on the rent money.
There are people out there who buy a house, rent it out and expect the tenants to pay the mortgage. If something goes wrong, who pays the mortgage then?
Wrong speculations!
I beg to differ on all three of the companies you labeled make crappy cars...
I have had 2 Ford's in my life, my husband has had one and they are most reliable cars ever..the same goes for Chrysler and GM...I happen to live in Ohio where we have Ford, Chrysler and GM within a 20-mile radius of my house...it is sad because it is really affecting the economy around here with them closing...I for one would never buy a foreign car...My Dad retired from Chrysler and my Grandfather retired from Ford...
It's kinda fun to watch you playing mental bumper cars
NM
about that fixing your mortgage --
are they going to go back and fix everybody's mortgage that has already had their house foreclosed?
DH and I should get our mortgage fixed....
we have no debt but our home, have never missed a payment or been late, pay a few hundred dollars extra every month towards the principal, have never taken out a HELOC or used our equity (quite a bit) for anything and have a fantastic credit score. We should have our rate lowered below the 5% it is now for doing a great job. But no, we'll give a break to those who bought too much house, had to compete with the Jones' and who took out foolish loans to begin with.
The Mortgage Failure......

Check out the mortgage failures.
Tell me which failed more, prime or subprime
Tell me what is the rate of failures under the CRA or even Bush's ADDI (which i attack alll the time)
Once again, REALITY AND THE DATA doesn't fit ya'lls claims.

Basically what happened was.. we reformed bankruptcy laws.. so that people who ran into dire straights could not restructure.

We packaged the loans into commodity derivatives. These are sorta mirror bets on the loans. Sorta..as the same loan will be sold many times in many derivative packages.. that's why the housing derivatives are worth more than all the real estate in the US. Derivatives are actually not that bad.. when a market is stable and only has to deal with natural forces. The housing market was bubbled.. partially due to low interest rates that encouraged everyone to buy, even the rich, and partially due to the CRA and the ADDI.. which did add customers to the market (helping form the bubble was the extent the CRA and the ADDI had in this mess)

All it took was a few failures to pop the bubble..and make real estate prices drop,. and mind you, it was mainly prime loans (READ not loans given to poor people and not loans under the CRA) that failed. The derivative market.,.which like I said, is really mirrors of the same loans.. cause the defaults to explode with ten times the ferocity, because one loan could effect the price of dozens of derivatives.

Really the poor and even irresponsible people .. simply did not have the economic ability to cause this mess. Pool all their money together and waste it on hookers.. it would have zero effect without help from the rich elites and their magnifying packaged derivatives.

THE CRA and ADDI both had stricter requirements than loans you got from normal banks.. both required income data.. where many prime loans did not.. they also greatly limited you on how much home you could purchase..whereas private banks did not care if you tried to buy something you could not afford.
Don't believe me?.. Look in the phone book.. call your own housing authority - you can get a loan for 106% the purchase price of a home even today.. if you're poor enough.

Ask to hear the red tape and hoops you must go through.. Heck, it is probably easier to just get a real job and earn real money than go through the FHA.

I don't think we should bail out anyone's mortgage.
Anyone who took out a mortgage and signed a contract to repay the loan and needs to do so. I don't care if they are illegal aliens, legal aliens, space aliens, or United States citizens.
GMAC Resumes Sub-Prime Loans In Order To Sell Cars

So, let's see.  I know that I have been known to lapse into a coma from time to time, but haven't we been here before - making subprime loans in order to stimulate sales and to hell with what happens next?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, please, but I'm having such a strange sense of deja vu here.

That's how the mortgage cookie crumbles!
I am still against bailing out homeowners only!
the whole mortgage thing upsets me...sm
I have a subprime mortage and have had for over 3-1/2 years, but I make my payments on time every month. I can't even get a refinance to go through with almost $40,000 in equity in the house and only needing a loan for $85,500, as I put down a big down payment when I bought the house, but if I had an ARM or was in foreclosure there are programs that would put me in a new mortgage. So, here I am trying to take care of my bills, be a productive citizen, and I get no help. Makes lots of sense don't it.
McCain's mortgage plan
Did anybody understand when McCain brought up plan to buy bad mortgages and renegotiate, etc. Would that be with the $700 billion we are already shelling out or would this be an additional $300 Billion the taxpayers have to pay. If I can get my mortgage renegotiated with the government, maybe I'll just stop paying my mortgage and get something out of this after all!
Citi is my mortgage holder too. sm
They are just downright nasty when you call, can never post things on time, and then have the nerve to call and ask me when I am going to send my check when I have my bank statement in front of me saying they processed the check 3 days before they called me.

I am with you...LET THEM ALL TANK. Why should I give ANYBODY more of my hard earned money. And that includes Obama and his "redistribution of the wealth" schtick.
Disagree. Mortgage lenders FM/FM
and sub-prime mortgages did it, along with all the money certain senate leaders got for sticking up for for FM/FM. It's called GREED.
Dear Crabby, about the mortgage
Yes, American people were also greedy, but there were predatory lenders who got higher commissions for giving out those certain types of ARM mortgages. Do you know what an ARM is? Even if people qualified for conventional mortgages, the mortgage brokers didn't offer them because there was more money in it commission-wise for them if they brokered the ARM loans. We can thank Bush and the repubs because they did not want to regulate any of this.
You really should educate yourself.
Fugget about Uncle Tom's Cabin. Is that your claim to fame? aww shucks.

I have my mortgage throught CitiCorp.....
I wonder if I will see any of that largesse....NOT. Guess you have to be on the letter head. Oh well....LOL
No need to wonder...current mortgage bank crisis...
brought to you courtesy of greedy democrats on Congress and greedy Democrats at the top of Fannie Mae. The handwriting is on the wall. This one's on you. McCain saw it coming in 2005 and the dems shut him down. Well, we are reaping what they sowed. To quote Toby Keith...how do you like them now?
Rush just said the same thing....give everyone with a mortgage...sm
something like $75,000 to pay down their mortgage.

Do you agree with him also?
Yes, slimy mortgage companies who have no oversight....they don't ask anything
just selling 'em as fast they could and packed them all up into nice little derivatives to drive up the bubble and make fast money - at our expense.
You don't mind paying for an illegal mortgage?
nm
If the current mortgage securities plan prevails,
come out of it all smelling like a rose. They are proposing to refinance the mortgages based on inflated appraised values that existed BEFORE the mortgage crisis, not the current lower values. In this way, the homeowners will still end up owing more on their mortgages than their homes are actually worth....they will just be paying for it for a longer term with more accumulated interest on the loan. Those terms are the ones we need to keep our eyes on and see how it plays out, but it looks to me like it is not going to make it into the next session of Congress.
I'd be happy if they just reduced everybody's mortgage rate to a fixed 3%. sm
Then everyone is still responsible for the debt they took on, yet they're still getting a break. It would free up a couple hundred bucks a month for me, which I could then use elsewhere to stimulate the economy. Fewer foreclosures, banks are still getting their money.
Wrong. Democrats are responsible for the mortgage meltdown, not Bush....
McCain tried to tell them in 2005...Dems blocked the regulation he begged for for Fannie/Freddie. But the Dems were too deep in the pockets...Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelick, James Johnson, Timothy Howard...all democrats, all walked away from fannie Mae with golden parachutes of millions...and we are left holding the bag. Fannie contributed more to Chris Dodd, Democratic head of Banking and COmmerce committe than any other senator in the past 20 years...followed closely by Barack Obama, who has only been IN the senate for 2 years...you do the math and follow the money. Democrats largely responsible for this. ANd you want to put one in the white house. Who wants to raise taxes in this financial crisis. What part of collapse of the economy don't you...and Mr. Obama...understand?
McCain has fogotten the stock market crash, mortgage/credit crisis,
unemployment rates, job losses, stagnant wages, rising prices in gas, food, health care, etc, etc, etc.
Finally

More and more are finally *getting it*.

Okay, I finally get it...
you don't want to pay a high insurance premium. You could find better uses for that money. But is it fair to tax everyone, including all those people who will use the entitlement because they apparently cannot or will not insure their own children, people like me who do struggle to pay health insurance premiums but manage to do so, is it fair to cut into our incomes even more so that it is more comfortable for you to not have to worry about a $1000 premium? You see where I am going with this? Because we, the taxpayers, including you, at all levels, are going to pay for this. Not a cigarette tax because it won't come close to covering the expansion. How is that fair? It is never going to be completely fair to all of us...and you say I keep saying $80K...you keep saying $1000 a month. There are policies that are more affordable than that. Might not be the cadillac of policies, but it would be coverage. It is about choices. Let's drop all social programs EXCEPT free health care for ALL American children (and apparently illegals as it does not seem to bother you they are included). Fund that first, DO NOT raise taxes, ANY taxes. After childrens health care is covered, whatever is left give to other entitlements. Again, what is wrong with tax cuts for those who pay their insurance premiums? Oh wait, I'm sorry. You don't want a tax cut and still pay the premium. You want it free. But again...it is not FREE. Every taxpayer in America will have to pay for it. Frankly, I think it is just as important to fix social security so that the next bunch of elderly won't be destitute...but hey, at least some of you can go on a vacation. SIGH.
Finally, but she has.....
no dignity, or honor, or shame, or anything. I think she finally listened to the people and did the math (the real math that is, not her "fuzzy" figures counting certain states votes (the ones that voted for her) but not others (the ones who voted for Obama). How does she think I feel knowing that she is out there saying my vote doesn't count because my state was for Obama. How does she think the people who voted for her in those states feel when she says their vote is not important enough because they are in Caucus' so their vote should not count. I was never in support of her as I'm sure if you've read previous posts of mine. I think there are so many many other qualified women I would have loved to see run for the white house and I think they would have done a much better job than her. She's just a really nasty person in both her political and personal life. I for one like living in America. I do not want the whole world to be one nation, one country which is what she is pushing for. I want to live in America and keep my job here. She is for sending jobs overseas. Whatever the other candidates are about, she is by far the worst of them. Well actually her and McCain are equal in "evil-ity". That's why I will write in Ron Pauls name at election time (if I can).
Finally...........
I knew there had to be someone out there who actually does their homework. He definitely has associations with some very worrisome and dangerous bed fellows but hey, some are just so anti-Republican they will vote for anything the democrats throw out there. I'm not a McCain supporter either, but Obama's past voting and lack thereof speaks for itself. He avoids invitations to speak wherever he thinks he may be called out on the carpet so to speak and can't wiggle and squirm his way through the answers and all that calm appearance will be put to test. He'll fold like a cheap tent.
ahh . . . someone finally got it.

xx

By Joe somebody's finally got it.
