Hogwash - he's got nothing
I really get annoyed when candidates falsely state things to make the people believe they'll be safer. First I truly believe OBL is already dead. Why? In an interview with Benazir Bhutto (I forget which one), she said she knew he had been killed in one of the cave's and had proof. Shortly after that she was assassinated. Nobody ever found him. There were no more video tapes of him. He never came out of the caves or made video tapes like our government wants us to believe. Funny how our government would every once in awhile come up with this fictitous video tape, but would never release it. Also I think it's odd that no more than 5 minutes after the WTC they name OBL as being responsible. I also find it odd that if they are so sure he was the master mind and planned this all why has there never been any charges against him. I think it's odd that those were not commercial jets that hit. I think it's odd that the jets hit which cause something like 2000 degrees of heat from the fuel, yet it takes over 3000 degrees of heat to melt the metal like what we saw in the pics, yet there are people standing and waving right where the jets supposedly hit the center. I find it odd that the owners of the building took out a HUGE 90-year insurance policy days before all this happened (and the owner looked like he was in his 90s). I think it's odd that a BBC news reporter was reading on live TV that Building 7 collapsed 20 minutes before it actually did. She's reading about the collapse and the building was still standing behind her. There's too much odd things. OBL has long since been dead and for any politician to say they're going to get him is once again playing into the American people's emotions. I can't wait to read the reports some time down the road when we read about who was really responsible.

What one cannot take seriously is the idea that the few marginalized "give me female or give me death" voters in any way represent the feminist core or moderate women who vote with their brains. The polls examining the unexpected backlash against McCain and his tokenism have already been dissected enough to indicate that the net "loss" of these HC defectors is quite small and statistically insiginifant to be of concern and most likely will be offset by the wise elder women among us who are not impressed with the new kid on the block. Tammy Bruce and her ilk will find themselves in shark-infested waters amongst new age femocons and most certainly will be of little statistical significance to the pubs as well when it comes to securing party loyalty from them, especially in view of the many truly antifeminist views the femocons hold. I could go on to cite a truck load of examples in support of this claim, but feel there are much more pressing issues of concern out there this morning....like the Freddy Mac Fannie Mae freefall and just how much more appalling the fiscal irresponsibility of W administration appears in light of this latest development.

Presidents do not yield
to political blackmail -- Obama did the right thing. He believes his time is better spent letting the entire bleppin' congress work the on the issue and then vote when they come up with a plan. McCain is just making another grandstand attempt that has fallen embarrassingly flat.

I thought the general consensus of this board, or at least the Obama supporters here, was that we were to not look at history but rather to the future. (At least that is what I was told when I posted that those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat their mistakes.)
You really should have watched the "YouTube bites." It was Obama himself saying that he did not believe a person that is unqualified for a job should apply for it and that was his reasoning for saying that he did not see himself running for a national office in 2008. Since you didn't watch the video, I believe you are unqualified to comment on it.

The only reason there is such a big deal being made is because there has not been a president in recent history that has had been under so much scrutiny in his first 100 days. Even if he were to solve world peace, find a cure for cancer AND turn water into wine, they would still complain and find fault.

Not all presidents do have a gathering
Just because they served the Kool-Aid in the Bush white house for the last 8 years, doesn't mean that's what is supposed to happen. Obama signed a national proclamation honoring the day, which is what many presidents have done since Truman created it 50 some years ago. Not everyone needs to drape themselves in their religion to honor it.

in secret. It's never caused such a problem before. I'm not trying to slam Bush, but look at all the stuff we're finding out about his administration (i.e. torture memos, etc). And to top that off, Bush was the one who initially stopped access to the guest list to the WH. When Bush did it the news covered it, but there wasn't a wide spread panic about it....so what's the big deal about Obama doing it?
I'm not saying that I agree with blocking the lists, because I don't, but the point is that both Bush and Obama have done it, so why the panic about just one of them? My guess is that right wing media is pushing the issue and using it as a talking point; basically making the media being the ones who are instilling fear, not Obama.
My point is that prior presidents have had their day..sm
and time when they were covered in mud and IMHO none of it is right, except to say in most cases the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
But, to answer Jeb's and Bush's family mishaps with the what about the Kennedy's line is dodging the point to me.
Bringing up the Lynch and Dean ordeal that's something worth listening to, but you guys just can't let go of old democratic presidents. It's like a thorn still sticking in your side. Everytime something comes up with Bush, you talk about Clinton, or even the Kennedy's, as if that dismisses Bush somehow. Whatever gets you though.

i agree the reporter's question was absolutely LAME..."has he spoken to any LIVING past presidents?" um...as opposed to talking to dead ones? I thought his response was quick-witted considering the idiocy of the question--at least he didn't put the reporter on the spot and embarrass her...instead he made his first gaffe as POTUSE and already apologized. let's hope the reporters ask SMARTER questions at the next conference.

I would love for there to be a good democrat I could vote for. I want good leadership and I want change. But I truly believe to purposely ignore a symbol speaks volumes. He is not just asking the symbol to wait, he is ignoring it on purpose. Avoiding it on purpose. Why do you think that is? There is a reason. Can you not see it?

objective views. This is a one-sided publication that asks for donations to keep it going. Nothing I read in there posts anything against any democrats, just republicans. It is not a fair-minded reporting.

My post was a direct answer to the direct post...
of Democrat. It was not a blank open-ended statement. And dial it back a notch...it is certainly your right to protest anything any time you want to. Just like it is my right to protest you protesting while men and women are still in harm's way, because you are in effect aiding the enemy. Apparently the Viet Nam experience taught you nothing. Americans protesting in the streets heartened the enemy and when they were about to surrender decided not to, based a lot upon what was happening in the American streets. I believe that the protesting in that war prolonged the war and cost more American lives. Hanoi Jane should have been tried for treason. That being said...lessons were not learned and the protestors are doing the exact same thing now. Exercising the very right bought for them by shedding of American military blood. And I still say common courtesy should keep people out of the streets and off the TV until the military are home safe. But it just proves the same thing to me over and over...the selfISHhness of the protestors vs. the selfLESSness of the military. They continue to put it all on the line for your right to protest anything you want to protest...it is up to YOU to decide where and when that is appropriate, and it is up to you to take the heat for same. It is up to me and others like me (in my opinion) to apply that heat. Go ahead and do whatever your conscience or lack thereof moves you to do. But do not expect those of a different mind not to protest the protest.

I know for a fact that when he ran for President in 2000, I told every single person I knew that if he becomes President, we're going to go to war with Iraq. (Nobody's gonna treat his daddy like Saddam did and get away with it.)
I didn't have a crystal ball. I had common sense and a good memory from the Gulf War when his father was President and how he didn't "finish the job." Seems a lot of other Americans forgot about that.

I believe, as you do, that there are people who are eagerly awaiting the *Rapture* and indeed believe they have the *inside track* to heaven.
