It is a crock, it was refuted. You live in a very small world with no understanding of other cultures. That picture shows me that when he returned to Kenya to meet his father's family, he put on clothing that other Kenyan men wear...Christians and Muslims alike. When I lived in the Middle East with my husband and his family, I wore Hijab and covered my head out of RESPECT for them and for the people whose country I was visiting. Respect obviously is a foreign concept to you. Christiane Amanpour is a Christian who travels to the Middle East and when she does, she covers her head and wears hijab, like she did when she made God's Warriors. Barbara Walters wears a head cover when traveling in the Middle East. She is a Christian. I will not waste my time citing any other examples to support my claim that you are so small minded, bigoted and misinformed it borders on the criminal.

no matter who adopts you, gives up their US citizenship. Only that person at age 21 can do that. Obama had the choice at 21 to adopt Indonesion or Kenyan citizenship, but he chose to remain an American citizen.

PLEASANTVILLE, Iowa (CNN) -– Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was asked about his "Muslim background" by a potential voter at a coffee shop Saturday, and used the encounter as an opportunity to try to put to rest stories that he said had been "misreported."
Obama joined a group of four women in a booth to eat some pumpkin pie and sip a cup of tea. One of the women asked him how his "Muslim background" would affect his decisions as president.
"This is something that keeps on being misreported, so I’m glad you asked me," Obama, who is Christian, said.
He told them his father had lived in a Muslim-dominated village in Kenya, but “didn’t practice Islam."
"Truth is, he wasn’t very religious,” said Obama. “He met my mother. My mother was a Christian from Kansas, and they married, and then divorced. I was raised by my mother. So I’ve always been a Christian."
He also touched on the fact that he lived in the Muslim country of Indonesia for four years of his childhood.
"I didn’t practice [Islam]," Obama continued, but added that being in that area had given him "insight into how these folks think."
Just before being pulled away from the table by a staffer, Obama told the women he had been a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ for the past 15 years.
My question is:
How can a child whose father is a nonpracticing Muslim, devorced from the mother, a Christian, and far away, become a practicing Muslim, when it is raised in the west? It cannot.

Actually, he professes to be Christian, not Muslim...
but the church he went to for 20 years really was basically racist and that is about as unChristian as you can get IMHO. But as to his being a practicing Muslim...if he is he is hiding it pretty well. And he is virulently pro abortion and Muslims are basically against it, so not sure at all he is Muslim. However, I DO think he has predisposed sympathies toward them BECAUSE of his upbringing. I think anyone would be kinda foolish not to see that, because like you said...he brings it up constantly and it is prominent in his book. But...I digress...
What really concerns me about Obama is number one, he goes to a foreign country and calls himself a "citizen of the world." I think that's wrong. But that is just me. He goes to a foreign country to give a speech to them while running for office in this country. That is basically thumbing his nose at us...in a way.
Number two, look at his associations in Chicago...look at the people he has associated with...who his friends are.
Number three, look at his voting record. No matter how moderate he wants us to think he is, he has voted consistently hard left. No matter how much he talks about "hope" and "change" it is the same old socialist rhetoric...let us tie you even more to the government for your every need, because when we have you dependent for everything...gotcha.
If he is elected, taxes will go up significantly. And not just the "rich" (who, by the way, already pay over 90% of all income tax...enough already). He cannot possibly do everything he promises without substantial tax increases. Don't know about you, but I think we pay enough...ALL of us.
And last but certainly not least...I shudder to think how he will handle a crisis...on the Georgia/Russia thing he says: "Well Russia just needs to stop the aggression." Which says to Georgia, a democracy, a USA ally, "you are basically on your own." McCain says: "We are all Georgians today." That, in my humble opinion, speaks volumes about this country and her safety with an Obama presidency.

Going to a Muslim school doesn't make him Muslim
And point of fact is that it was 2 years in Catholic school, 2 years in a "Muslim" school. He was living in Indonesia. He had to attend school in Indonesia. His mother, doing what mothers do, wanted him to get the best education available. She tried 2 years at the Catholic school and then determined at that point that the quality of education provided was better at the Muslim school. There was some teaching of Muslim philosophy but this more emphasis was paid to standard educational requirements, what's referred to as the 3 Rs (Reading, wRiting, 'Rithmetic).
Attending a school with some affiliation does not automatically confer the same status on you. Jews can go to Catholics without converting. Whites can go to those schools thought of as primary African-American without becoming black. Sometimes, folks, a school is just a school, and 2 years in an extremely secular school at the ages of 8-10 does not turn him into a radical Muslim.
Frankly, his education and family life seems like it makes him almost the perfect president to be able to understand and empathize with a much wider range of American citizens than any president before him.

Everyone who goes to a Christian church is not automatically a Christian. Only God knows if you truly are or not. He could easily still have Muslim values and attend a Christian church. Does he? I have NO IDEA. I really don't know. What I DO KNOW is that the Christian church he attended did not teach what God wants to be taught. I know that from the Bible because we are not supposed to preach hate or damnation, yet that is what his minister preached, LOUDLY.

My first reaction when reading your post was one of curiosity. I was an IC during the latter Clinton years and I do not recall paying 40% of my earnings to tax. What I remember was an aggregate tax payment composed of income tax, social security tax and self-employment tax, which essentially represented a burden I shouldered as an IC that compensated for the lack of employer contribution to SS, Medicare and FICA. To my knowledge, this tax structure has not changed since then for ICs. I also remember paying my taxes quarterly, and being responsible for calculating enough tax not only to cover my required amounts, but also to pay in extra each time if I wanted to generate a return at the end of the year. I made a decision NOT to be an independent contractor because I was a single parent with a mortgage. The self-employment levy felt like double tax to me as compared to what I had been accustomed to as an employee and, most definitely the total percentage of tax burden as an IC was greater than that of a full employee status.
On checking my returns from those years (which I still keep in the house) I find the total tax burden I had for all the components of my tax liability amounted to 27%. I am wondering if you did not get a return back then because you did not contribute more than the minimum rate during the course of the year and that later on, your contributions did allow you to have a return. Also, to account for the lower rate during Bush years, did your family situation change between Clinton years and Bush years, did you get married, have children, add an earned income tax credit deduction, add dependents, start itemizing your taxes. All these changes would account for a lower percentage rate of your tax liability, thus allowing for a return.

I have provided Obama website links because you expressed doubts about democratic policy. McCain's website also should have similar information available on these issues as well for your comparison. After reviewing the information (if you were not already familiar with it), ask yourself where the information is coming from that is making you fearful that your taxes will be raised. I would really be interested in any response you may feel inclined to post in this regard. On a personal note, I will not be trusting McCain with the economy or with handling my HARD EARNED tax money. I do NOT want one more single penny to be used to fund the war, bankroll Israel's apartheid and nuclear weapons arsenal, prop up our struggling corporations or trickle up into the pockets of the richest among us in the form of continued Bush tax cuts to the rich, which McCain has openly stated he will continue if elected.

and consequences, and that's why they are exceptionally ethical, compassionate young adults, straight-A students, and, in general, wonderful human beings well on their way to being productive, responsible grown adults. I am their parent first, always. I have instilled them with the information and tools to make wise decisions, and this seems to be working well for me and them.

is making GROSS $250,000 from his business, he is definitely not wealthy in my book. On the other hand if his taxable income is $250,000 I see nothing wrong with him paying more taxes than someone with a taxable income of say $40,000.
I do not believe that Obama is going to tax the rich to give to the poor. I have not heard that a single time from his MOUTH. IF and I say IF, he is successful, your father-in-law would most likely get a reduction in taxes. This thing of Obama the modern day Robin Hood is so far out in left field it doesn't even deserve serious consideration. People seem to believe McCain whatever he says.

But once you get beyond high school, and into college or out into the working world, you meet so many different kinds of people. I'd be lying if I said I got along with all of them (or even maybe most of them?) But in my own experience, beginning back when I met the first gay person I ever knew (he had his own horse, and he let me ride it all the time), my personal friendships have been good ones. I wouldn't trade any of them for anything, and feel sad when I think they sometimes have to live certain aspects of their lives as ƈnd-class' citizens. Especially when each and every one contributes so much to society, and to life in general. So I really have no idea, as well.

during an economic recession and that lead to The Great Depression. Obama is the one wanting to raise taxes here. He wants to raise taxes on companies who are already hurting right now because of the financial crisis. This will lead to less jobs and more companies closing and going out of the country. FDR introduced several new deals which were government assistant programs that were supposed to help people during the great depression and those new deals have actually been proven to lengthen the duration of the great depression.....not help it. Obama wants to introduce new government assisted programs. To me....Obama will be the absolutely worst thing for this economy.
As for Sarah Palin....at least she has run something which is more than I can say for Obama. He may have been a community organizer but the buildings in his region that were for low-income families, like the ones owned by Rezko, were often without heat and were horrible living conditions. Sarah Palin has run a state where she is very popular. She has cut spending in her state. She has no problem standing up to her own party. These are very admirable things. Yes, Obama has been on the senate but he hasn't been on there very long. His experience of running things and making executive decisions is seriously lacking. Instead of cutting back government spending, he wants to raise our taxes. Gee....that sounds like change, huh. A man looking out for us little people.....whatever. Obama has never once stood up against his own party. His own running mate said he didn't have the experience. The amount of pork Obama has spent government money on is just outrageous. The key to this whole thing is to get government under control and stop the spending.....not let government get bigger and control more of OUR money.

I don't know if anyone cares how I feel after Election Day. In case you do, here's the scoop; I'm happy, with some reservation.
I'm happy to live in a democracy where my vote counts, and no more than the next guy's. I'm happy to be able to trust government workers to tally the ballots. I'm happy there are winners and losers, and happy to hear concession speeches peppered with “I'll be back” and “Don't lose hope.” Yes, today I'm happy — I'm very happy to be an American.
My reservation is deeply seeded. My concern has little to do with partisan politics, with house or Senate control. I could care less about red or blue or right or left. And for goodness sake, I'm rather indifferent to the emotional pull of a clunky elephant or a rickety donkey.
Having followed the major issues and the hottest campaigns of this midterm election, I'm concerned that Americans — on both sides of the aisle — are losing the ability to know what they are fighting for, and why it matters. I'm concerned we are losing the battle for the American soul.
“A Battle for the American Soul?” To some, the phrase itself may sound like simplistic punditry — mouth-candy, cliché, and passé, altogether juvenile.
If I didn't live in Europe, I might agree. But a few years on this side of the Atlantic, combined with regular glances back at the history books, I am convinced America has possessed and still possesses a unique, positive and powerful soul, carried in the hearts of her citizens. In this century alone, it has saved the world more than once.
I am also convinced that now, as never before, the American soul is the target of heavy and deadly fire. The sharpshooters, this time, come primarily from within.
Sordid politics can't take the full blame for our predicament. The real battleground for the American soul is CULTURE.
The word is not easy to define. I think it is a nation's portfolio of values — her priorities, ethics, conceptions, and traditions. It is the common philosophy of life, a mindset, and mentality, a way of judging, acting, and reacting. Culture, we can say, creates in us a collective understanding of who we are and what we are about.
While culture is bigger than politics, in a representative democracy like ours, the quality of politics is a cultural bellwether, a group bill of health. From the sight of all things political these days, I would say our culture is sick.
Some have said the outcome of this election was all about Iraq. I don't think it is so simple. Large numbers of Republicans have proven themselves untrustworthy in character and policy. In their tenure as majority leaders in Congress, they have done some good things, but they have vacillated in their stated priorities. They have failed to push forward the confirmation of important judgeships, truncated integral immigration reform, and most recently, were weak on social ballot initiatives like the Missouri stem cell research amendment and mandatory parental consent for minors seeking abortions.
The deeper problem is not policy. It is the superficial nature of political discourse. Republicans have set themselves up as the pro-life, pro-family party, and its platform promises to protect both. But much like the Democrats, its members have been unconvincing in explaining why they believe what they do. When is the last time you have heard a politician explain why life is precious, and why it is sacred? When is the last time you heard a politician give a discourse on the origin and foundation of human rights? When have you heard a Congressman or Senator lay out a reasoned explanation of a just war, given the new type of unconventional enemies?
This dumbing-down of politics is both a consequence and cause of cultural decline.
Democrats are now in the spotlight and we are watching. On Wednesday, new House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi pointed to a painting behind her, hanging on the wall of the Library of Congress. She signaled a figure burning a scroll of learning and trampling on the Bible. The title of the painting was “Corrupt Government.” She explained:
“It is a harsh image to see a Bible underfoot, but it makes a powerful point: corrupt government undermines our values. We come here today to support those values, and to lay out an agenda for a new era of honest, open, and transparent government.”
It would seem Nancy Pelosi is saying the values of America can be found in the Bible. I am impressed. Maybe she knows America was founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs and plans on entering the battle to save the American soul. To do this, she will have to hold Democratic policy up to that very high standard. I'm not holding my breath.
If there is one thing to remember, it is this: culture, not politics alone, determines our national identity, and building culture is the responsibility of us all. We can do it in our homes, schools, and places of work, even as politicians fumble around on Capitol Hill. If you need a guidebook, ask Nancy Pelosi. She just might point to the Bible.

I love Father Jonanthan, but I don't believe Nancy Pelosi is going to be pointing anyone toward the Bible, because she would have to throw the Democratic party platform right out the window wtith the other hand. But, I believe the Bible is the guidebook. And, in God's own words, (paraphrasing), Let ye who are called by my name turn from your sin and pray, I will hear from Heaven, forgive you and heal your land. Ye who are called by my name, I believe that to be Christians. Let it start with me, then, because I love my country and the principles she was founded on, and I would love to see her restored. And he felt different feelings than just wanting a male friend. He struggled with it from age 8 to 16 and finally came out. He is 19 years old and openly gay now and was a VIRGIN by the way the last I heard, yep he has relationships with guys with no "sodomizing" involved, amazing huh, that it can be about something other than sex. Hubby's father told him we would
see a depression in our lifetime that would be 10 times worse than the great depression. This was back in the ླྀs. My husband always hung on to that statement and believes this is it. It's coming and there is nothing that will stop it. That's why we have been buying extra canned and dried goods when possible. We always made sausage and smoked a lot of pork but of course, we can't have animals here because of zoning, so we buy from a local farmer.
I know how to make bread and butter and have plenty of flour stored, but butter is going to be another issue since we don't have a cow and the last dairy farmer went out of business 10 years ago.

your point. He was not adopted by his Kenyan father. The point is that his mother was an American citizen. It doesn't matter where he was born. What is it that you don't understand about that? Mexicans and Canadians, as well as students and others from many other foreign citizens give birth every year and their children are American citizens. If what you say is true, and I do not believe it for a minute, why would you think that an American citizen giving birth in a foreign country would not automatically convey citizenship onto her baby? Get real. This is not what the constitution intends. This is just a diversionary tactic by desperate people.
