Our regular Walmart was fine. Then they built the SM
Super Walmart. It is disgusting. The toiletries department is small, smaller than the other one in the original store. Lots of absolutely horrible clothes and I am not a snob. The quzlity of the clothes has gone done, if that is possible.

The worst part is the food section. I don't buy food there, but it is dirty, broken boxes of FOOD lying around. Few name brand items, it is truly awful. The produce section is about 2 feet wide. Damn shame.
WalMart has been good to my
My husband and daughter both work there. I am on their health insurance for free! If you work there, you can get your spouse put on your insurance for free. I have a friend that is a single mother of 3, raising her grandson, who is mentally challenged. She works at WalMart and has no specialized education, and is treated well there also. She has worked there for 6 years and at times has made more than I do as an MT. I don't like all products coming from China slave labor, no I would like to see that stopped. But from my personal experience, I would not have health care (it is over 500 a month at my service for 2). I used to bash WalMart, but no longer.  They employ 300 people at my town and do not practice age discrimination. My husband is in his late 50's and could not get hired because of age, but they even hire people in their 70's at WalMart.

What supermarkets are you talking about?

My MJ is fine for just regular use, but don't think it would be good for working with... nm

I have never been asked to show a receipt at Walmart. Is the Walmart you shop in a bad neighborhood
And the expensive stuff has an alarm on it for the cashier to take off. No receipt check. Just a greeter saying good-bye.
OMG, you FORGIVE Walmart shoppers? Are you nutz. Did Walmart
put an over-priced small business owner out of business. What is your PROBLEM?

I see old people who would otherwise not have a job smiling and happy with Walmart. I see undereducated people who do not look employable working at Walmart. Walmart employs millions of Americans who may otherwise be on public assistance.
Forced into it.
A company I was with for a long time switched over to a VR system. It takes some getting used to but I love it.
Yes, I was forced to by company, who does not
ss
Dictators like that should be forced to
either type their own reports or use VR. See how they like their own mess.
If forced to transcribe the slang, then
satting would be correct. The two consonants after the vowel make the vowel short. In the dictation, "satting" (slang for saturating) is pronounced with a short "a" so that is how it should be transcribed. Typing only one "t" would make the vowel long. However, as at least one person has already pointed out, "satting" is slang and is not proper transcription style regardless of who demands it be typed that way.
I was forced to work with some at one point -
They all took and passed - granted these were a little above average from the work I saw - my guess is there is a lot of help - probably even some "cheating" - I mean - how does AAMT verify who that is half a world away - no SS#, etc
They've forced many of our ERs to shut down
a regular doctor's office. So the few that are left are full to bursting. Once when I had a medical emergency, the ambulance couldn't take me to the closest ER because they had no room, instead we drove FOREVER to a far-away hospital, and still I had to wait a long time out in the hallway. Right now I would say 80% of the people being treated on the account I type for are Mexican and don't speak English. So the hospital has to pay for full-time, professional translators to accompany these people at office visits. And it's no surprise that a large number of them came here illegally.
To compete with who? (sm)

They quit teaching MT in my area at least 5 years ago because there are no jobs in the area.  Hospitals are on EMR and there is no available work in the area.  The schools here were probably sued because people couldn't find decent paying jobs, LMAO!

Who says you have to compete
Obviously the AAMT is more interested in the offshore projects anyway.  Doing something like a BOS with some common sense has nothing to do with them.  Frankly I think a book with tips, tricks, samples etc would be much better than what is currently being offered.  Of course AAMT can't be competed against.  I don't think the idea here is to go after the companies or take over what the AAMT has done.  The idea to have a real organization for MTs here in the United States.  A place where MT opinons really count and the power that be won't sell out to the highest bidder.
Non-compete
I believe all "honest" ICs will willingly sign one since I have been burned before by an MT who went behind my back and stole my account from me!! I was terribly burned and as a small MTSO, I believe in them very strongly. If you want to keep your accounts as an MTSO, have your MTs sign a non-compete. If your an IC, think about it from a MTSO point of view, would you want someone to go behind you and take your business away?! JMHO.
My company forced us to do all accounts for one hospital. SM
They are a group of five hospitals. Those of us who said we did not want to do all five, suddenly had our primary out of work, because the other MT's were doing OUR account. That is how things are now. It seems to be the name of the game.
I suspect employers are being forced to care. SM
Since it's a new platform, it's a new problem that probably a lot of companies are just waking up to. My sympathies for people who find themselves effectively "forced" to use it as it apparently is now.

With serious compatibility issues with common brands of the Expanders that have become vital to so many of us, at this point I would not apply to a company using it, and I suspect few other good experienced transcriptionists reading about it would either. This seems such a grave flaw that it will have to be repaired, or this platform will end up a dead end used by only a few institutions.

How about contacting the company that developed the platform directly for answers and fixes? Also the developer of your own expander, who must be well aware of the issues Chartscript raises for them. The ShortHand tech guy (not my own MTSO techs!) fixed me up promptly when I was put on eScription and developed glitches. Best wishes with this.
Non-compete clause
This goes on all the time but I must say that it IS stealing! Shame, shame on you!
non-compete agreement
GA girl, where are you? Do you have experience with a n.c. agreement in GA?
non-compete agreement
I read the posts below about the n.c. agreement and wonder if you have any knowledge of them. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.
no compete contract...sm

I think I know who you're talking about...almost positive! Gosh, I wish we could post her name here so others in our area would not become one of her many VICTIMS!

Please email me if you'd like...I'd be more than happy to help y'all in any way I can...bestest of best luck to you...I hope you kick her crooked a$$ in court!

Non-compete agreements

Who has had to sign one with their company? Are they enforced? How long was your non-compete arrangement for? Thanks!

Non-Compete Clause
Length of time?  Depends on the verbiage and the company you work for - some want you to wait 6 months, others a year before you approach their accounts.  They are designed to pretty such save MT companies from people stealing their accounts, wreaking havoc.  If you don't plan on stealing work, don't worry about signing it.  Think about it - you might not like the hospital, quit the job, change companies - so would you really WANT TO STEAL THAT WORK??  I didn't think so!  LOL!  There isn't much an individual MT can do to "steal" an entire account anyway.  If a hospital or doc changes, it's because they don't like the company you are working for.  After being in this field for 15 years, I have never seen anyone prosecuted for theft or anything involving the no-compete agreement.  Basically, this is nothing to worry about...unless you have a hidden agenda.
owners trying to compete
The companies are trying to keep their profits high, be competitive with India and the doctors want to pay next to nothing. It's a tough business right now. I would look to other options or really push for more money. I wouldn't work for less than 9 cents. On the other hand, there are MTs out there who think they are very good, but they are honestly terrible. I think if you push for a quality company and sell yourself and you truly are worth the money, you will get it.
I do not work hard every day to support fools, yet I am forced to by this
I do NOT, DO NOT, care about people who put themselves in harm's way in order to brag that they have a 9-room house on the beach.
Forced to conform? It's a holiday show with music. sm
They're not apparently being asked to stand up and deny Jesus, for heaven's sake.

If it's a public school and public money goes to the school, my feeling is they'd BETTER be inclusive. If people's feelings get hurt because they're a majority and they just can't stand to have any of the minorities mentioned, tough.
It is a reality in this business. It is the only way for them to compete, but it
aa
Is it really a gift when you have to compete for it? Nonsense.

can we get an update on the no compete contract

This is interesting (non-compete clauses)
My contract has a standard non-compete clause. Basically, that any subcontracted Transcriptionist will not contact or contract with any clients of my service. I finally had a transcriptionist ask for this complete list of clients. Makes sense, because how will they know who to avoid if they, well, don't know? But I would much prefer they didn't know to begin with. I don't want to tip my hand by giving someone a list of my entire clientele base. Does this seem fair? I feel I should reword my contract to avoid this in the future, but I am not sure how to do so.
we have to compete for our prize for MT week
We have to find stuff in our work like a certain med, or the oldest person, and the first person who finds it gets the prize.  There were only 10 prizes to give out and there are lots of employees.  I didn't even participate because, frankly, they can kiss my patootie.  They should be giving EVERYone something, like, maybe a RAISE, instead of implementing a bogus game where a fraction of the employees win.  Do they think we are second-graders?

I hope this proves to all MTSOs who say they are forced to lower their rates that if MQ can get 20,
All they need to do is stick to their guns. Our rates should not be falling. MQ does not even have the good quality that half of these other services do.
I used to get hand and wrist pain. I still do if I'm forced to use a standard keyboard.
I bought an ergonomic keyboard and use a telescoping keyboard drawer so I can prop the side of the board that's closest to me up in the air.  That forces my wrists into the proper position and spreads my hands apart.  It works wonders.  I thought I would have to quit MT before ever really getting started, but I'm able to work pretty much fulltime now.
Forced to work scheduled shifts..no flexibilty..what gives??? So frustrated.

I started MT two years ago for a medical clinic of about 100 doctors.  I am now working at home.  I get paid hourly 10.50/hour.  My employer will NOT let us work flexible shifts.  I have to work a standard 8 hour shift with a one-hour lunch break that is unpaid.

I got into this field because I wanted to work from home and have FLEXIBILITY.  I have a toddler under the age of 4 and when I interviewed and shared my reasons for wanting to work at home (my children) I was told I was a "great fit" and then I get in my home and am told there is ZERO flexibiity and I have to work 8 hours straight just like in-house people!  This is extremely stressful for me having a small child and I don't make enough money to afford daycare.

I started working with Medquist part-time for extra money and AGAIN I was told I would have to work a set shift, with no flexibility.

Where are the jobs that you guys have where I can work my own hours?  Sitting here typing 8 hours straight everyday with a demanding toddler is starting to wear on me, but I need this job badly.

What gives? I thought the nature of working at home with MT is flexiblity and every job I've applied for in MT has given me NONE.

If you haven't signed non-compete forms...
with a company you are employed by now, and you leave the company, is it acceptable (legal) to contact a client of theirs and offer your IC services if you really want that account as your own?  Any suggestions from anyone having ever done this before would be much appreciated.
No way, I am having no problems with productivity, only that my pay has been reduced to compete
with the global market, that is a fact.

Now please with all respect please do not offer your opinions on my situation, I am sensing a little attitude here and I am not interested in your opinions on that. Thanks.
Both? I thought Spheris had a "no compete" rule.

At least that is what I was told.  Or maybe this is just a new thing?

I fail to understand what the "competition" would be.

supposed to be, after people lose their jobs, they are forced to take part-time, lower-paying jobs..
with little to no benefits. service jobs. where are you going to work in a few years, when Medical Transcription is replaced by technology? McDonald's, Walmart? you really going to like that?
Done with Walmart too.....sm

Walmart has 6000 vendors of which 5000 are in CHINA............they are getting ready for 2039 when China will be taking over the world....

Hopefully I won't be around......to see that happen.........

Looks like we need a Walmart

Walmart
Hey people.........Walmart Sucks!!!!!! Get a grip and go to Target!!
walmart

We live in a small town, some things you can't get anywhere but Walmart.  However their meats are not  very good, hamburger looks sort of like red worms pressed together,  ick. Produce not so hot either.    So I buy tmeat and quite a few other items at the grocery store.   Have you all tried going to Dollar Stores for cleaning supplies etc?  It works well for me.

JP

At WalMart they are $3.99.

Walmart

25% would be a generous discount.  It is only 10% though. I am thinking of applying there as well, or at Target.  Anymore, this job is not worth it. I have been working for 25 years at this.  With the pay having decreased so much, and the cost of living still continuing to rise, it does not seem like that big of a sacrifice to me anymore.  These transcription companies expect us to be skilled yet the pay scale does not reflect our work. They expect us to stick around when they cannot or will not provide us with work.  For me, walking away will not be hard.  I like Target over Walmart because at least at the Target around here they are pleasant.  Walmart around here has unpleasant employees.  A job that lets you be crabby may not be so bad, on second thought.  I want to get out before all the jobs are off shored.  It has happened in many jobs, textiles, appliances, etc.  There may still be jobs in the US for transcriptionists but I can see it all being outsourced eventually.  Then we will all be working for Walmart.

Walmart job

Hello,

I'm not even sure if this is the right place to post this.  I have been a Transcriptionist for 8 years and I just can't do this anymore.  I can't handle the unreliable workload and unreliable paychecks....I'm going to go back to school to be a medical assistant but on the waiting list until next January 2010.  I'm truly thinking about applying for a job at Walmart at this point because then I would at least have a steady paycheck where I will know exactly how much I am making.  Anyone have any suggestions or know how Walmart pays.  HELP!

Walmart Job

I have a close friend who's worked for Wal-Mart for several years.  Pay is based on what department you work in.  For example, Produce, Deli, Customer Service, etc.  If you're experienced in the Bakery, you'll go in at a higher rate of pay.  They have stocks that you can buy and a good medical plan.  Good luck!

About Walmart
I looked up keyboards on their website, and they don't have that one listed.

Do you think that means they don't have them anymore or might they have them but not show them on their website?

I only ask because they are a bit of a drive for me. I suppose I could call them ... duh! Although sometimes others know more about a store than the employees! Lol :)
You just put yourself on the list with Walmart (sm)
You really just listed yourself in a class of people that don't deserve much credit either.  You are upset with Target because they don't support the military...however shortly thereafter you made it clear of your feelings about gays and lesbians.  Have you ever stopped to think about how many of those young men and women over there in harms way every moment of their life are gay?  Or do you only "recognize" the heterosexual soldiers?  Gotta love a hypocrite that bashes someone else for categorizing people...yet fail to see how they manage to lodge their own foot in their mouth in the process.
What's wrong with WalMart
they sent out thousands of flyers about their big sale, and barely have a handful of the product. Strange way to do business unless that's just a way to get you in the store and hope you will buy other stuff. grrrr
