It is the way of a democracy. I keep in touch with my senators and one...sm

lone representative. I pay attention to whether they vote in my best interest and are honest in their dealings and let them know if I disagree, and vote or not vote for them in the next election. You are naive if you think that democrats are solely responsible for this meltdown. Looking for the other party to blame is counterproductive and will help no one. Money hungry greed is what has led us to this and both parties are to blame.

Don't you wish? You cant touch him
Just look at the contrast. A week of hope, light, vision, excitement, praise, even from the most skeptical pundits, no scandals, no skeletons in the closet. Success, despite your best efforts to cast the candidate as a rock star wannabe, ridicule the setting and minimize the record-breaking numbers in the audience.

Another week, we have gloom, doom, pesky natural disasters, reminiscent of past pub leadership deficits, disappearing keynote speakers (plural), invisible in the leadership roles they use as an excuse in their haste to escape out the back door, hiding behind an obviously nervous wife who has been plugged in as a last minute substitute, a hugely angered female population, dissed and insulted by an ill-advised, pandering VP pick, ridiculed for lack of experience and plunged into scandal...and we haven't even reached the end of the first day.

There seem to be forces much greater than you or I, our parties or our leaders in play as we progress through what I am sure will be a most interesting week, full of suprises on both sides of the aisle. Hey, honey, please pass the popcorn.
Is this guy out of touch?

This is how out of touch McCain is
I heard he offered something like $300K (forget exact sum) to someone who comes up with a vehicle that runs on battery. Hellooooooo... there is already one already. It's called the electric car. So why is he offering that huge sum to someone (I have no doubt one of his friends will probably "come up" with this. IMO, this is what the republicans are all about...giving their friends lots of money for nothing. How bout importing the car that runs on water (think its over in Japan). I also heard there is a vehicle made in another country that would cost about $1200 (forget right now if its hybrid, electric or what), but it also uses no fuel. But none of these cars are being allowed to be sold in the US. Why? Because the car dealers are not allowing that to happen. They won't allow anything but their gas guzzling ones.
Got to love how they get in touch huh?
LOL the power of the internet.

Well I looked up the Southern Baptist Convention and it looks like our resolutions are against it. I just wanted to be sure!

This is my biggest thought on it. I believe that God gives life. It is a sacred gift. I know you are a Jew so you don't believe in Christ as the Messiah (right? forgive me if I'm wrong) but for Christians we do believe he was. He was created and formed in the womb just as we are created and formed in the womb. Thank God Mary didn't abort Him!

While it is not mentioned directly in the Bible, I don't think it's hard to see that God views life as something not to be taken lightly. I think like all other vile things that have been created in this world, abortion was created through sin. Just as Christians shouldn't take part in pornography, or drugs, or drunkenness, we should not take part in abortions.

I understand that not everyone is Christian. To them I say they have bigger problems to worry about than whether or not they are committing a sin.

I honestly believe in a godly society abortion wouldn't even be mentioned. Of course in a godly society people wouldn't be running around having sex with whomever, whenever, and however and the gift of a child would be viewed as just that, a gift.

But that's the world we know, unfortunately.

It's just unfortunate all the great lives that have probably been lost due to someone's "inconvenience".

he wouldn't touch

your fat fanny with a padded 10 foot pole.  He is happily married to an educated woman.

#1 & #3 most liberal senators

It's a fact.  The one between them is none other than Ted Kennedy!  He's #2! Obama is #1, Biden #3.

How can so many people buy into this spin?  Cuba thought they found their true messiah, too.  Castro promised them change and something new, and look where that got 'em.

Senators and Congressman
If you have a senator or congressman up for reelection this year, are you going to automatically vote against him/her? I know people say they are mad as he@@ at the present congress, so I was wondering how people were planning on voting. I haven't decided yet, so I really need to start looking at who is up for reelection in my district.
I emailed both my senators........... sm
about him last night. I hope enough people will call, write or email their senators and let them know that this man has no business in the AG office.

What IS Obama thinking???? I wonder how he would like it if he found his daughters being exposed to the very websites this man fought to protect?
Sadly, some of the senators, if not all,

think we DO want this. Doesn't matter how many calls they get. They think we just love mortgaging ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren.

There are a few that are fighting against the bill as it stands but....and I know a certain person will blast me for this but Schumer, Dodd, and Kerry absolutely screamed today that this package is what HAS to pass. Schumer stated right out that it's what the people want. Kerry stated there was no reason to cut anything from it. Dodd stated that the TARP package has money in it to help with the mortgage debaucle so why they want amendments to the tune of $9B in this one was beyond him.

So, if there is money in TARP for the homeowners, why aren't the homeowners being helped? No rocket science in that. The banks and Wall Street are keeping it.

They just don't get it.

Well, I'm glad to see that neither of my Senators.......... sm
were the Republicans who voted for it. Texas has spoken.....FWIW! LOL!
I just contacted my senators
and as politely as I could told them that I was not happy with the the direction our country is going.  I also told them both that if they vote yes to cap-and-trade, I will vote against them come next election.
I tend to think, after reading this, t hat you are the one out of touch
with Jewish teachings.  It would seem to me that rabbis saying these things would carry a lot more weight.  As far as the number who attended, that doesn't seem important.  It is what they are saying that carries import.   I don't think you speak for the Jewish community.
Her's another post the pubs won't touch
nm
Gloom and doom can't touch us now.
x
I received this too. Nice touch. nm
.

IF it is democracy they truly want.

Here's a prediction of what may happen in Cuba.  Note how Cubans feel regarding healthcare and education in Cuba, something Americans are in no immediate danger of experiencing from our so-called free government.

so what is democracy to you...
you are in favor of letting money then run this country, to do freely anything it wants - not sure I get that at all in fact that sounds more like socialism to me - this attitude sent down from the rich that we should just be 'lucky to have jobs' and how only the poor and middleclass should suffer, you know, for the benefit of the country - we are the only ones sacrificing.

Not getting that at all...

What is in it for me, what have the rich corporations done for me, please tell me, how am I better off now.

I could sit here all day typing the problems I have right now financially, so please share how great things are now that only the poor and middle class are carrying the burdens for roadwork, childcare (you know, schools feeding kids breakfast, lunch, and even dinner most places because we dump our kids there and leave them), I could just go on and on and on...

This is the history of democracy:
Athens

450 - 500 BCE

"It is called a government of the people (demokratia) becaue we live in considertion of not the few, but of the majority." - Thucydides on Pericles' view of democracy

Evolution of Democracy

Democracy in Greece was first introduced in Athens in the 505 BCE by Cleisthenes. Previous to democracy Greek city-states were ruled by a an elite few, rich, powerful men, known as tyrants. This Oligarchy limited the power to very few people. Democracy was a government structured to serve the people. All white, male citizens had the right to vote under a democratic democracy. Unlike present democracy, citizens would convine and openly discuss and vote for elections. This type of democracy is called direct democracy. As a society it benefited the majority, which were the middle and lower classes. The middle and lower classes received a voice , giving them power. The upper class, aristrocrats, lost power through a democratic government. They no longer received more power because of thier social standing.

The Athenian Constitution was written by Aristotle and was titled Constitution of Athens (Athenaion Politeia). It described the responsibility of Athenian government and the respensibility of the different branches it is made up of.

Hey, sam....That is what democracy look like.
and all that stuff, dontchaknow?
We do not have a democracy.
We have a democratic republic. They are different--dontcha know?
So, you don't believe in democracy either?

I try not to be nasty on this board, but I just can't believe how many people are wanting the demise of democracy and, with open arms, are accepting everything the democrats state as truth. The demise of the 2-party system will only lead to socialism or something worse. Are you ready for that?

After the town meeting in MO yesterday, I honestly believe O has blinders on. He still doesn't know why the tea parties were held. He is relying on someone to give him an accounting of why and he is going along with that. He doesn't realize that was not what the protest was about. Maybe he should have gone to one of the parties to see the truth. But no, he'll rely on others for the not-so-much-truth.

Same with the economy. How much has changed? Not much. Yet he thinks it's getting better. Well, I don't see it happening. Unemployment higher, Chrysler claiming bankruptcy, GM soon to follow. Banks still not lending. CEOs still taking their bonuses; i.e., business and politics as usual.

Sure, it's only 100 days, but for the debt we now have to shoulder, how does it get paid back when the government refuses to take payment from the banks that wanted to pay off their debt? This government WANTS to control and own all business and banking institutions, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Yesterday, DH applied for SS since he doesn't believe it will be there in a few years, so for the 40-some years he worked and paid into the system, he wants to get something back and, anyway, there is no work for him. So far this year, he worked 15 days. Son still can't find a job after a year. Yeah, there are jobs out there. NOT!

This is my honest opinion.

Everything you list here is shared by all the other senators ....
serving. This is legislative experience. It is not executive experience, and it is not foreign policy experience. Obama admitted it, that is why he chose Biden. I choose to believe him.

As far as executive experience...she has run a state, a multibillion dollar budget, made executive decisions every day.

He is running for PRESIDENT. She is running for VP. She has more government running experience than he does. His qualification is running a presidential campaign. Ah. I see. And I thought it was the campaign managers who did that.

She IS more qualified.
Senators, etc, don't have the same security clearance as
the president. Do a little research on the subject. Face it, if the chosen one gets in we are screwed, without the benefit of dinner and a movie first.
Not necessarily....enough Repub senators ....
remain so that the democrats don't have a filibuster-proof majority. So if the repubs grow a backbone and stand up...the dems will be somewhat limited in what they can do. We shall see how it all turns out. But yeah...the potential for a major hosing will still exist.
The truth usually does touch a sore spot
--
He did not let it touch the ground - he didn't "wad" it up
If that's what you saw, then the only thing I can say is you were all for the Mexican flag flying above the American flag. This hero came in and cut it away from the other flag and did not let it touch the ground (which you obviously do not know is a sign of respect). But you cannot fold it properly by yourself. He also had the courage to stand in front of the camera and give his name and what he was doing. He did not wad up the flag, he put it under his arm to take back to wherever he went and give it the respect it deserves. The people who had their flag flying above the American flag should be arrested, deported back to Mexico where they can fly their flag above others, and their business should be shut down. What do you think would have happened if someone had flown the American flag above the mexican flag in their own country?

Get a grip!!!!!!!!

I don't think every American wants democracy. sm
In fact, I know they don't.  There are more than a few Americans who think we deserved 9/11.  Nancy Pelosi is one of them.  Now look where she is.
My dear, you do know that the New Democracy is what - sm
The 'New Democracy' is what The Shining Path (Communist Party of Peru), New People's Army (Communisty Party of the Philippines), and the Maoists (Communist Party of India) are calling their cultural revolution, right?

You know, the revolution where they tried to impose a dictatorship of the proletariat through such 'democratic' things as terrorism against peasants and union workers and other 'dissidents' in their own countries?

And I'm sure you know that the goal of the 'New Democracy' is to induce a world-wide revolution as a path to what they call 'pure' communism?

    You know all that, right?

Otherwise, your statement about dragging Americans 'kicking and screaming into the new democracy' would just sound uneducated and silly.
    isn't democracy grand?
Yes, Chele, your comparison is kind of like how 50 million of us who voted for the other guys have had to put up with Bush for 8 years...that's democracy for you. Maybe you are the one who needs to wise up.
    It is called Democracy.
Of course it is okay for the majority to elect whomever they want. Your post sounds like a case of Republican sour grapes to me.
There are children of congresspeople and Senators serving...
from both sides of the aisle.

Serious question...you do not view a radical Islamist with a nuclear weapon dangerous?
Didn't I hear some senators say that passage of....sm
the "bail out" would not preclude bringing those people criminally responsible to justice?  I am for that.  Let's see if either candidate steps up to the plate and advocates that now that the bail out has passed.
I am personally involved and communicate with my senators...sm
and represenatives. However, I have talked until I am "blue in the face" to people who believe everything they are told by their church, their husband, their wife or their parents, etc. Unless I am talking to someone who has an open mind and not willing to follow the pied piper and check their facts, I am wasting my breath. Of course, I keep trying. LOL.
I e-mailed my senators telling them the same thing! nm
    nm
You write/fax/call your state senators over and over and over

They can't even combined touch Kerry's wealth. Get real.
    on your own bad self.
Yep, I've lready crossed the you-can't-touch-me-now threshold.

When Iraq is set up as an independent democracy and we have withdrawn sm

how in the world can we dictate what they do with their prisoners?  You have to take a wider view of this bill.  It is nothing like what you have presented here.  It's a bill about democracy and a democratic nation.

A blog by an Iraqi about his homeland and Democracy. sm
I read this every day until he stopped posting.  It's very informative and not something seen in the MSM.  There are other links there that are still active.
America is a Constitutional Republic, NOT democracy

This is a very good read.

I like the quote by Tom Tancredo "When I took the oath of the office, it wasn't to my party or President, it was to the Constitution".

    http://www.stopthenorthamericanunion.com/NotDemocracy.html

Bush/Saakashvili alliance is not about democracy.
It's not rocket science. Even a 5-minute superficial read of the history of the pipeline and the below-the-radar placement of US troops in Georgia makes that abundantly clear.
    Democracy Obama-style! Great post. Thanks.
    .
For many reasons, the fact that Israel is a successful democracy
in the midst of tyrannical middle eastern governments.  The fact that the U.S. supports Israel.  The fact that Israel has turned their once arid country into a fertile landscape and have managed to become a wealthy nation despite it's geographical short-comings and to the dismay of their neighbors.  Also because the palestinians have managed to paint themselves as the underdog in a battle that has long been a land dispute and not an "occupation."  And I have even begun to touch on the religious and scriptural reasons for the hatred.
Ummm....ummm....nope, I'd best not touch that one. nm

Beacon of democracy must walk the walk,
No more Bush bluster. If the war on terror means anthing to you, listen up. One giant step in restoring mangled image abroad (in preparation for global diplomacy aimed at a 21st century approach to the war on terror) would be to live by example. Credibility is the name of the game in that arena.

For those among us who would be the first to decry an Obama administration that would "change our country as we know it," it might be helpful to remember just how much of that country we lost during W's reign of terror...writ of habeas corpus, presumed innocence, right to counsel and fair trial, burden or proof, not to mention even a modicum of acknowledgement of basic human rights and condemnation of torture. Sound familiar?
