More added uncertainty as to who he really, really is.  At least with McCain, there is none of this distrust.  I do not have to worry that McCain is hanging around terrorists, where he was born and if he is a true US citizen, if he was raised and taught by a pastor for 20 years to learn hate, and could go on and on.  What you see is what you get with McCain.  None of this junk of trying to prove who he is.

As for O, there is no trust for me.  He seems deceitful.  He gets mad when newspapers go against him and then kicks them off the plane and so on.  Even Clintons have said Obama needs A LOT OF ADVISORS if he wins this election.  This is not an election, but an eerie movement.  Even had to arrest skin heads because of a plot to assassain the O, already.  Freaks me out.  Just not right for this country or should I now say for this WORLD as the O wants to change it.  He does not know anything about foreign affairs to CHANGE THE WORLD.  He scares me to death and I am not the only one who feels this way.

Can anyone give me reassurance about the O?

African-American population
It's a good thing if the black population is ever growing into the middle class. It means that that demographic is benefiting from workfare and the changes in welfare that kept the culture dependent soley on the government for many years. The most striking thing about New Orleans is that it is one of the most welfare ridden cities left in the country, and that is why so many people there were in such a poverty state. The able people haven't been made to start providing for and/or bettering themselves. New Orleans is an example of what happens in a nanny state. It's not that the government was not involved. It was involved too much. It's glaringly obvious.
I'm African American and am VERY offended
that he would even make the comment I don't care how he tried to clean it up, or what context he used it
in.

To say that the crime rate would be reduced if you aborted all African Americans is deplorable and your defense of the comment is sickening. It doesn't matter to me if he came back and says it's morally wrong to do so, well DUHHH yeah it would be, so why is he saying this $h!t to begin with.

There is a quote below from another African American. SM
He was not offended.  What is your point?
The first African-American president.

I am not for Obama but I don't wish him any harm.  All I have to say is....I would be scared out of my wits to be the first African-American president.  I am not saying this because I am racist.  I am saying this because there are some extreme racists out there who believe the idea of this is just wrong.  Just look at what happened to Martin Luther King and he wasn't even president.  I know that was back when race more of an issue, but it still is to some people and I wouldn't put it past some of those freaks to stop this from happening at all costs.

Like I said.....I wish Obama no harm so please no bashing posts about how I'm a huge racist.

What is this African-American stuff? I am white,
If I am to call a black person African-American, then I should be called Irish-American, German-American, Scottish-American, Italian-American, Welch-American, French-American...the list goes on and on.

This is the very example of racism. One color people believing they should be called something different than what they are. That is ridiculous. I am not going to jump through ludicrous hoops. If anyone is that small minded and believes they have to tack on a continent before their name, they need to get a life and live in reality.

And some poster awhile back was...
actually claiming that everyone knows the republicans are the ones who cheat. That is so laughable. This is only the beginning of the dems trying to steal the election once again.
just as i hope African American's aren't voting for Obama for that reason!
NM (i suppose that means "no more"? or something) im still a bit new to the board!
Thread topic is African-American Christian endorsing McCain.
rasberries
Bush came to my town awhile back,

but I just felt he was very disrespectful of the questions people were asking.  Someone would ask something very important to their lives, like farming or healthcare, and not only would he avoid the issue (which many politiicans do), but he just outright laughed numerous times, and that did it for me.  These people were looking to answers to questions they agonize about in their lives, and he would laugh it off and make a dumb joke.  It really bothered me, but that is just one of many things that make me very wary of him.  I just don't trust the man.  I go with my gut feelings through life, and my gut is screaming not to trust him.  May not be logical to many, but it's the way I feel.

If he passes the Children's Health Plan I will definitely have a little more respect for him.  I think if he has a conscience he will.  Many middle-class families are losing their homes and everything else they've got because they are drowning in medical bills.  Our kids deserve it in my opinion, and even though he has promised to veto the bill, I hope in HIS heart of hearts he knows it's the right thing.  Maybe I won't feel like saying anything negative about him for awhile if he passes it!   I will be so grateful.

You make a good point, but I think the real credit for African American progress..sm
is education. You can take away all of the social programs you want to, but if there is not progress in education, you still have poverty.
Ask Democrat. I just vaguely remember it. sm
Since I am mixed race, I remember the statement.  As far as the rest of what you said, I am not getting into it.
Wasn't Lieberman a democrat?
He switched from the democratic party and I believe he is supporting McCain.
American history 101. FDR. Remember him?
our nation is desperate for a change in direction. The choice is as clear as the light of day. O supporters know a good man when they see one. You seem a bit confused. The flock is gathered around the sinking ship.
For Boomers who remember American life

At the moment, I am feeling a bit overwhelmed with where we find ourselves now... on the brink of a truly extraordinary moment in our American story.  Feeling at a loss for words, I came across the following post, which I strongly recommend to all, but especially for those who remember as I do just how far we have come.  It was of special interest to me that this remarkable post was written by a Canadian looking from the outside in.  Here's the link:

I'm wasn't for Bush but you need to remember...Obama is
nm
I wasn't kidding. I don't remember a disaster like Katrina during the Clinton sm
presidency with someone inexperienced at the helm of the fed agency responsible for it, but I will do my research on travelgate.
Nope, never said I wasn't black, but I remember the argument you're talking about...sm
Nan, Military Brat and Bush supporter took me to task over whether or not I was black when I said *and who said I was black anyway* I'm trying to find this in archives.

But, what I can't stand is people having a preformed opinion about how I am going to think or should think since I'm black, that's why I don't post my race. Once I posted that I was African American that's when they started the *I thought you said you weren't black.* Which I have never denied my race. Sorry, but not true.
I remember checking back for a response too...sm
**As far as *bad language* is concerned, I think I'd rather be told the truth by someone who curses like a sailor than to be lied to repeatedly by someone hiding behind a Bible.**

I have to agree with you 200% on that. I'm in search of a new church home for this very reason.

As far as Lila, I'm squashing it, tomorrow is a new day.
it wasn't held back. See post below
nm
I'm celebrating - American Idol is back on this week
At least someone told me that, so I'm celebrating.

Also celebrating that John Adams won at the Golden Globes.

Also celebrating that we don't live in an area that has horrible weather patterns.

That's what I'm celebreating. Otherwise, there is nothing else to celebrate.
More nasty comments. I can see why your were invited back...there wasn't enough crudeness
More vomiting of your inner rage.  I see on the conservative board you also say liberals are sissies.  Could you please provide the source of the research behind this statement?  Or, could it possibly be.....more lies?
Oh yeah, I do remember that
Nan was stalked mercilessly by a very, very rude and hateful person.  I hope yahoo got them...
Yeah and remember
him standing up and declaring that he is the "decider?"
Yeah, figures that Hollywood is almost all democrat
nm
Yeah I wasn't really writing that
like as maybe it's a fact. Like I said conspiracy theorist idea. Like how there are aliens and the government is hiding them from us, or how we bailed out companies so they could go on very expensive retreats and bird hunts (OOPS wait that one IS true! LOL)

Sorry I wasn't trying to say anything bad, promise!
Yeah-a real American Hero

He was on The View and he stated he lives in Mexico 9 months out of the year. He loves Mexico. He's against waterboarding and his answers to questions they asked him were way out there as if he hates the country.

He's a real patriot, isn't he...NOT!

Yeah, I remember the "Catholics for Bush" signs during the 2004 election
so much for churches staying out of govt
Yeah. It's been a while back and a lot has happened.
That's pretty much what I meant. They held hearings, brought charges, presented their case, proved their allegations. The mandate was to decide whether or not this constituted "high crimes and misdemeanors." Perjury is not pretty...but lying about affairs is not uncommon. Lying about the war...another story. In any case, the charges failed to meet the criteria of high crimes and misdemeanors and they voted not to impeach / remove from office.

I think "booming" is a relative concept. For example, as compared to now, booming it was. Another measure might be if people were better off when he left office than we he took office. The 90s, for the most part, is remembered as a decade of prosperity. I may come back a little later and comment further because I am transcribing today, but for the time being, you may find this article of interest. Would like to hear your comments one way or the other.

I agree with about the working class, but I do believe that generally speaking, the dollar had more purchasing power then than now. I know that as an MT and single parent, the boom sort of skipped over my house, but on the other hands, things did seem easier and better than now.

You will notice I left out a few things that others might think of as "a good thing." Restoration of the death penalty would be one....NAFTA another. IMO, NAFTA has been a disaster and I considered it to be Clinton's biggest boondoggle. For the most part, I though Clinton was a "cool" pres. I will say this much. He is doing some good things now (William J. Clinton Foundation), but aging does not seem to agree with him, in terms of his personality. He just doesn't seem quite as "cool" as he was before....maybe I've gotten older too.

I appreciate your post and may revisit this later this evening.

Yeah, let her take us back 40 years so everyone can have
at least a sister, daughter, cousin, grandchild, mother, wife, neighbor or aunt who dies from a botched illegal abortion. Then, we can all start over again.

Sarah hasn't earned the right to run this country. Obama has clearly been working night and day, the proof is in the number in his audience worldwide. Even Canada and Germany want Obama. The truth is in the numbers.

The United States today finds itself threatened by three interlocking crises. The first of these crises is economic and cultural, the second political, and the third military. All three share this characteristic: They are of the GOP making.
the good ole' boys don't deserve a second chance. The grand ole party has failed the people by selling out to China to pay for a war and at the same time, gave tax cuts to the wealthiest and corporations (they provide jobs my arse). McCain with Lieberman and the voting jews will have us at war with Iran and well, looks like a battle with russia is in the making as we speak. How do you figure this country will be a better place with four wars, a deficit that will send the country into bankrupty and a female VP who has the statemanship of a redneck fundamentalist.
yeah, go back 50 yr, and take responsibility
for your behavior -- ie, get pregnant, you HAVE the child, even if you choose to give him/her up for adoption. yeah, go back to when we still had some morals, ethics, courage, determination, etc etc. that would be The Way !!
Yeah.....right. Same back at ya...You have all hit my posts 2-3 times....
pile on, try to stop any and all kind of opposition....that doesn't sound like democracy to me. Lockstep party line and if an independent thought every occurred it died a lonely death. Tsk tsk.
Yeah, we got to get those rape rooms back and pronto...
You know, so the rapists (Hussein's henchmen) can practice their sexual preferrence freely....
Yeah, this was back in the 80's right when Donny was shaking his hand...sm
I agree Saddam is scum, but the sanctions, and military pressure during the 80's and 90's and pretty much strapped him. Did he need to be taken out, WELL DUH, YEAH. I just argue the fact that 1) it is not our responsibility. If the people were too afraid to rise against him how can they stand on their own? That is being evidenced with the training of the Iraqi police and Iraqi military. 2) Was this the way to do it? An all out occupation. That country is at the brink of a civil war.
Yeah, did Elvis come back to life? Is this hollywood?

I was brought up Buy American made products, keep American jobs.
Always bought American made cars and bought products from companies where my family was employed. Now look at America? We are definitely connected all around the world.

My feeling? Obama states he wants to start from the poor upward. Not the other way around like it has been for quite awhile. That to me does not necessarily mean just in America, but around the world by taking the poorest countries and working upward so America's pay wages and everything else will be so low and comparable to the poorest countries. After all, we are now connected together.

Cannot wait to see what will happen with the Swine flu this fall with the second wave and what it will do to the economy of all the countries combined at once.
It took me awhile to get used to
but I have this unnatural hatred for birds (probably because one pooped on me before homecoming my junior year) so it makes it a little easier LOL.

I still have trouble when it comes to Bambi. I enjoy eating deer meat, just as long as I don't have to meet him before he hits my plate! HAHA

As far as knowing one is sick or not, you can pretty much tell when you look at it. Usually by the time their fried anything harmful is killed. The biggest thing you have to worry about is biting down on a piece of lead that didn't get dug out! OUCH!
we are definitely on our own for awhile
I think we should all get used to the idea of pitching in and helping each other.
Having been gone for awhile
I find this "O lover, O worshiper" garbage even more repulsive.  For heaven sake, can you possibly imagine anyone just giving the guy a chance without ass-u-m-ing we are "O lovers or O worshipers?  Good grief gertie!
I will remember that one...if you remember...thou shalt not kill. nm

Why is this discussion over - Ive been away for awhile and,
So why is this topic now closed?
Any child born to American parents is an American -
I am sorry, but I respectfully disagree with you - any child born to American parents is an American even if they are born overseas. The birth has to be registered with the United States, but they are still an American even if they are born in the foreign hospital.

I have 2 cousins who were born in Japan and they have no problems at all being "American".
Arab African????

McCain wasn't desperate and wasn't behind in the polls
In fact, they have been neck and and neck, and McCain has been gaining in the polls while Obama has been slipping. McCain could have taken the easy way and kept the stable course and picked safer, sure. Instead, he picked a maverick leader like himself, who isn't afraid to get in there and make changes even if it goes against their own party. I believe he wanted to say that the Republicans are the party for change, and wanted to make a bold statement. I've seen statements at "other sites" as well where people are absolutely joyous at this pick.
I have not posted here for awhile because, frankly,..
I was at a loss for words.  If I were one of those televangelist types I would say God did sent this hurricane/flood  to expose this administration and many I-got-mine, who-gives-a-hoot-about-you Americans  to the rest of the world for what our country has become...a place where racism, poverty, greed and environmental desecration have been allowed to thrive unhindered.  There is money and manpower for the things this administration really believes in; power, personal accumulation of money, war and environmental apathy but none for its poorest, oldest, youngest and  sickest...finally, finally, having been exposed naked to the world, perhaps we will wake up as a nation and clean house from the top on down. With God's help, and a little selflessness from everyone (not just the same people over and over and over) I believe we can overcome this tragedy and go on to be better for it; we are always better when we do the right thing. If our administration can't or won't do it, perhaps we can shame them in the eyes of the world by doing it ourselves. I am rambling here...I am just so completely stunned by the last week's events. I will stop here. Mitakuye Oyasin. Aho.
It's been awhile since I've posted
I can't even remember when I posted this message. I have stayed off the boat because the posters that defend the dems and say they had nothing to do with it just make me so infuriate I could just scream. Like you said, you can show them a video of them defending it and they still won't admit to it. They come up with something like "oh that video's been doctored" or some baloney like that.

I just found myself getting totally frustrated. Been screaming at the TV so much my voice is sore, so rather than add frustration stayed off the board for a short while.

I found some more information I found interesting I'll post later on. Back to work here for me for now.
He was a member of the party for awhile, yes he was....
but so far as I know he didn't pal around with people who blew up American buildings, someone who said God D*mn aMerica from the pulpit...yeah, that's the same thing. And HE was not the one running for office. Oh heck...what was I thinking? LOL.
she probably left for the same reason i did for awhile
when the libs continuously personally attack you and say the stupidest s*it, you can only take it for so long.
I rarely come here and I know why just be posting above... i get soooo angry and I dont like to be an angry person.

Poor Sam was all alone a lot of the time sticking up for what she believed in just to be struck down time and time again by people that have no class.

I wish her the best
I think you may be right, but it is long and will take awhile to read through it
I've got more to read, and this is a long one.

All I say is do not take away the small farm/personal household's right to not let us plant a garden. I was reading it again but is long and have to do more reading before I comment any more on this.
