Okay....please post examples of McCain's...

Posted By: sam on 2008-08-25
In Reply to: Not so fast. Comparative drug use exercise. - A few more interesting facts. sm

lock-em down and shun-em policies. I did not find that, and I looked.

Second...Obama snorted cocaine. That is an illegal drug, so he broke the law. Period. He just didn't get caught. How did he pay for it? Did he deal? We don't know. And I don't care...it is in his past. Just like this is in Cindy McCain's past. He was snorting an illegal substance. Prescription drugs are not illegal. Obtaining them with forged prescriptions is. They both broke the law.

Third...how many addicts just come clean on their own? Nearly NONE. It nearly always takes some kind of thing like an accident caused by the addiction, and intervention by family members...let's be honest about that.

You then say Obama supports rehab and no incarceration for first-time offenders. Your candidate does, but you don't? Or only support it if it isn't Cindy McCain? What does what her husband support or does not support have to do with it? She is still a first time offender. Would you not extend the same thing to her you would to anyone else? Isn't that exactly what you are saying is not fair?

I can't see where one of these issues is worse than the other. He did illegal drugs, she asked that someone forge prescriptions. Both illegal.

And I would be willing to bet that if one of Obama's children, or Obama's wife, got in trouble with drugs prescription drugs they would move heaven and earth to protect them, just as McCain did.

And McCain does not advocate tougher laws on first time offenders. I found this in searching for his drug law stance:

"I also think we ought to do something you may approve of and that is first time offenders ought not to be imprisoned, I think they should be given the opportunity for rehab. In Arizona we have a program, first time offenders--abusers--they can go through a rehab program where there is frequent testing. If they complete that they can go forward with their lives."

McCain introduced the "Addiction Free Treatment Act" (S.423), which prohibits the use of funds for any drug treatment or rehabilitation program that uses methadone or other heroin detoxification agents unless the program follows specified guidelines, including that the program has as its primary objective the elimination of drug addiction and that it conducts random and frequent comprehensive drug testing for all narcotics.

Senate statements S.423 Feb 11, 1999

McCain indicates that federally sponsored drug education and drug treatment programs should be expanded. He says, "Work to expand public/private partnerships in support of such initiatives, and coordinate them with state and local efforts."

Vote-Smart.org 2000 NPAT Jan 13, 2000

The only "tough" laws I have seen is for dealers only, and international drug traffickers like Colombian cartels and that sort of thing.

And if you look at all the times the Kennedys have pulled strings when theirs have been accused of rape, had addiction problems, Teddy left the scene of an accident that resulted in a fatality...

This, to me, is a nonissue. On either person's part. Her drug use (in the past) and his drug use (in the past). McCain's drug stance is not that different from Obama's. Both think first offenders should get rehab, not incarceration, by their own words.

well, at least the ones who post here are good examples...
sadly.
Please post examples of hatred and intolerance...sm
that you say describes the Republicans, please.

Other than Hannity, maybe, I can't think of any, so don't include him please. He sometimes is an island to himself. And don't include Rush, he doesn't hate democrats either, you just perceive him to.

Now O'Reilly, he's just plain weird these days, can't say hatred comes from him, he really does try to be fair and balance, no matter what the dems say about him. He's so fair and balanced, he leans too far to the left a lot lately. Can't figure that one out for the life of me, and dems still say he's banked far to the right...lol

Across the board, what I see, is the intolerance coming from the liberal democratics, one of which I used to be, oh so many moons ago.

I disagree with their platform as it has evolved, however.

Particularly the free speech thing, which only applies to them.

Examples please, without the above caveats.
Here's a few examples.

Here's a few, I've got lots more.  Be aware, though, that I usually do not honor such rude requests.

From a Jewish publication citing poll results:

Poll: U.S. Jews Overwhelmingly Support Israeli Gaza/West Bank Disengagement, Say Israel Should Depart Most Settlements to Secure Peace

NEW YORK, April 11, 2005? American Jews, by a nearly three to one margin (62% to 23%) support Israel?s disengagement plan to leave Gaza and some West Bank settlements, according to a new survey released today.

In addition, a large plurality of American Jews believe that in the context of a peace agreement Israel should be willing to withdraw from most Jewish settlements in the West Bank (41% vs. 27%).

These results emerge from a national telephone survey last week of 501 American Jews, directed by Prof. Steven M. Cohen, sociologist at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem for Ameinu, an American Zionist organization, which for 70 years has trained future leaders for the Israeli and American Jewish communities.

______________________

From Brandeis University publication:

Sixty-two percent of American Jews agree, according to a survey conducted in April by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem sociologist Steven Cohen for the liberal American Zionist organization Ameinu. Twenty-three percent oppose the withdrawal.

Opinions have divided roughly along denominational lines, according to Brandeis University historian Jonathan Sarna.

It's mainly within the Orthodox community that you see deep engagement with the issue, he said. Most Orthodox leaders both in America and in Israel are quite passionately opposed to the withdrawal for religious and perhaps political reasons. Non-Orthodox are either content to see the government policy followed - this is what happens in a democracy; the government makes a law and one follows it - or are simply disengaged from the whole issue.

____________

From Peter Kenyon, NPR, on Israeli Jewish viewpoint:

Despite the highly visible protests, opinion polls have consistently shown that a majority of Israelis favor the evacuation of Gaza settlements at least in part because of the high cost of maintaining Israeli troops there to protect the settlers.

Give examples
Goes both ways. Democrats have been time and time again saying untrue and slanderous things about McCain, then they turn around in the same breath and say your lying about Obama. I have not heard any of the lies about Obama though. So far everything has been true, so give some examples. I'd like to be proven wrong.
Please PROVIDE the examples.
Since these examples are so plentiful, you should have no problem coming up with a few of them.

Actually, this attempt to misdirect attention away from the REAL content of the posts, which you don't like, is what's boring. It's a trick you probably learned from Obama, who figures most people won't even notice that he's changed the conversation.

We notice that you're changing the conversation, so you lose.
Please PROVIDE the examples.
Since these examples are so plentiful, you should have no problem coming up with a few of them.

Actually, this attempt to misdirect attention away from the actual content of the posts, which you don't like, is what's painfully transparent and truly boring.

I won't answer your absurd accusations again and return the other readers to the program previously in progress. You just carry on with yourself.
My post was about John McCain

not Bill Clinton.  Our economy almost crashed last week and it may still.  Things have not been this bad since the depression.  Anyone who is planning on voting for John McCain should understand how deregulation (which he has supported throughout his politcal career) played a role in what happened last week.  They also should understand what his involvement in the Keating Five scandal was and how that relates.

Your post is about a coherent as McCain's
No need to repeat what economic issues look like...they were precisely spelled out for you in the original post. You and your candidate can run fast, but you cannot hide from this economic disaster. Personally, I hope you continue your attacks on Obama and avoidance of the economy. Your party's relentless O bashing has reached way beyond the "boy-who-cried-wolf" level. No one who is paying attention to the state of the nation can take any of that trash seriously anymore. That, more than anything else, will ensure McCain's defeat in the 25 short days left until election day.
Great post. Also, McCain is now...

"neck and neck" with Obama in McCain's own state of Arizona.  The Arizona Replubic stated Senator McCain is "struggling in his own backyard."  They stated he should have had a comfortable lead in Arizona which he doesn't.  McCain has now started his robocalls in Arizona.  Arizona is a republican state too.  I should know, I live here.

Way to go Obama - all the way to the White House!!!

I agree 100%. Other great examples of....
socialism...Cuba and Venezuela. See how it is working for them. Ends in dictatorship nearly every single time. People buy into class warfare and by the time they realize the middle class they were trying to save is truly gone and all you have is the "government" and everybody else...all the populace in the lower class. The handwriting is on the wall...and the socialist party of the US (the DNC) has us in its crosshairs...brought to you courtesy of George Soros and his vision of one world government. Hellooo.

I like to read both sides of the aisle but this publication spews hatred for anything not democratic in order to sell books.  To those who can't see both sides, this blog, or publication as they like to state, is just up their aisle. I shake my head at one-sided news. Taken from their web site:

While we are proud of the journalistic contribution that this Web site has made over the past decade – and while we are deeply grateful to our readers whose contributions have kept us afloat – we also must admit that we have not made the case well enough that this mission is a vital one.

I second your post and 'watcher's post
is misinformed crap.
McCain
Not only will he refuse to get out of Iraq unless there is some sort of clear victory, even if it takes "100 years" or "1000 years" (his words), jokes about how to handle Iran is "Bom, bom, bom, bom, bomb Iran" (to the tune of a Beach Boys song), he also wants to kick Russia out of the G8 and not let China or India in. Way to place nice with the up-and-coming superpowers - I'm sure that will do great things for our country in years to come.

There are certain things I like about him (strict belief in Geneva Convention, willing to work across party lines), but his warmongering side scares the you-know-what out of me.
McCain's age
Whether his military uniform helps his image depends on what kind of world we want to be living in tomorrow, not the one we live in now. A lot of people will be showing up at the polls to say that status quo is not acceptable, especially when it comes to solving problems by waging wars. Concerns over his age, senility and/or Alzheimer’s are legitimate if you do the math. Those possibilities are very real and could just as easily happen early in his term as later. He has shown some early signs like his problems with word retrieval, mispronunciation, confusion, forgetting what he is saying and blank staring spells.

The teleprompter comment is also kind of a cheap shot. Besides that, it is not true, unless you believe everything you hear on Fox or YouTube. He is an excellent orator and delivered very spontaneous and inspiring responses in the town hall meetings during the primaries and in news conferences. YHe is a much better speaker than McCain.

McCain....you mean
I can't believe anyone would vote for him after what Bush just did to us for 8 years.
Well, McCain's gas in his car came from
oil from a country that supports terrorism. McCain a supporter of terrorism? You can interpret this any way you like.
if McCain gets in

that will be the tenor of the New Secretary of State.

Why McCain?
http://www.johnmccain.com/Undecided/WhyMcCain.htm
McCain looks

like he hurts.  It makes me uncomfortable to watch.  Obama has a significantly larger amt of data in his mind (constitutional law professor, etc) to sort through, gather, and assemble before he responds to a question.  It is to his favor that he does not immediately yelp out an answer like a trained seal.

Thank you. I think McCain's age ... sm
Is what worries me so much about this situation. I mean, people die at different ages, it's true, but if McCain were 20 years younger, I don't think I'd be quite as worried. But he's 72, has had skin cancer several times, and I read (haven't verified) that both his father and grandfather died suddenly of heart attacks when they were younger than he is now. Now that might not mean anything. After all, isnt' his mother in her 90s? But it just worries me. It would be different if he wanted Palin to have a cabinet position where she could, I don't know, hone her skills, cut her teeth in Washington, so to speak, but to put her is a position of leading our country if something happens to McCain? It just makes me very nervous.
Oh, of course. McCain will get the best...sm
Healthcare. Too bad for the rest of us peons though!

Still, the best healthcare in the U.S. can't turn back time and make him young again. He is really getting up there, and the campaign must be wearing on him. I don't know how any of them can stand all the travel that comes with campaigning.

The New McCain!

The Ugly New McCain

Wednesday, September 17, 2008; Page

Following his loss to George W. Bush in the 2000 South Carolina primary, John McCain did something extraordinary: He confessed to lying about how he felt about the Confederate battle flag, which he actually abhorred. "I broke my promise to always tell the truth," McCain said. Now he has broken that promise so completely that the John McCain of old is unrecognizable. He has become the sort of politician he once despised.

The precise moment of McCain's abasement came, would you believe, not at some news conference or on one of the Sunday shows but on "The View," the daytime TV show created by Barbara Walters. Last week, one of the co-hosts, Joy Behar, took McCain to task for some of the ads his campaign has been running. One deliberately mischaracterized what Barack Obama had said about putting lipstick on a pig -- an Americanism that McCain himself has used. The other asserted that Obama supported teaching sex education to kindergarteners.

"We know that those two ads are untrue," Behar said. "They are lies."

Freeze. Close in on McCain. This was the moment. He has largely been avoiding the press. The Straight Talk Express is now just a brand, an ad slogan like "Home Cooking" or "We Will Not Be Undersold." Until then, it was possible for McCain to say that he had not really known about the ads, that the formulation "I approve this message" was just boilerplate. But he didn't.

"Actually, they are not lies," he said.

Actually, they are.

McCain has turned ugly. His dishonesty would be unacceptable in any politician, but McCain has always set his own bar higher than most. He has contempt for most of his colleagues for that very reason: They lie. He tells the truth. He internalizes the code of the McCains -- his grandfather, his father: both admirals of the shining sea. He serves his country differently, that's all -- but just as honorably. No more, though.

I am one of the journalists accused over the years of being in the tank for McCain. Guilty. Those doing the accusing usually attributed my feelings to McCain being accessible. This is the journalist-as-puppy school of thought: Give us a treat, and we will leap into a politician's lap.

Not so. What impressed me most about McCain was the effect he had on his audiences, particularly young people. When he talked about service to a cause greater than oneself, he struck a chord. He expressed his message in words, but he packaged it in the McCain story -- that man, beaten to a pulp, who chose honor over freedom. This had nothing to do with access. It had to do with integrity.

McCain has soiled all that. His opportunistic and irresponsible choice of Sarah Palin as his political heir -- the person in whose hands he would leave the country -- is a form of personal treason, a betrayal of all he once stood for. Palin, no matter what her other attributes, is shockingly unprepared to become president. McCain knows that. He means to win, which is all right; he means to win at all costs, which is not.

At a forum last week at Columbia University, McCain said, "But right now we have to restore trust and confidence in government." This was always the promise of John McCain, the single best reason to vote for him. America has been cheated on too many times -- the lies of Vietnam and Watergate and Iraq. So many lies. Who believes that in Afghanistan last month, only five civilians were killed by the American military in an airstrike, instead of the approximately 90 claimed by the Afghan government? Not me. I first gave up on the military during Vietnam and then again when it covered up the death of Pat Tillman, the Army Ranger and former NFL player who was killed in 2004 by friendly fire.

McCain was going to fix all that. He was going to look the American people in the eyes and say, not me. I will not lie to you. I am John McCain, son and grandson of admirals. I tell the truth.

But Joy Behar knew better. And so McCain lied about his lying and maybe thinks that if he wins the election, he can -- as he did in South Carolina -- renounce who he was and what he did and resume his old persona. It won't work. Karl Marx got one thing right -- what he said about history repeating itself. Once is tragedy, a second time is farce. John McCain is both.

or like when McCain said . . .
Obama called her a pig and then on Monday said he didn't
it has to do with McCain and

Bush systematically deregulating  (savings and loans - Keating 5) and wall street so that the souless corporations can do whatever they want without any limits.  they have removed the safety factors built into the system after the great depression. Well, now we have the situation that deregulation brings.  As Romney said at this years' repub convention - McCain is going to go at all the regulations on industry with a weed wacker.

McCain
Respecting his service to his country is one thing.  He is only one of thousands who have done the same thing. or worse, died for their country, and are just as deserving of being honored as McCain.  Trusting him to lead this country is another thing entirely.
Seeing as McCain may not . . .
live out his term, she is running for the top spot.
Does McCain even know what he is saying.

Maybe he had better hit the beach with the flip-flops.

He said, he said. I believe what McCain said,
you believe what Obama said. McCain said he told Obama he was going to suspend his campaign and when Obama spoke just now he stated the same thing, only says "I didn't know he meant it now" or some such. I don't buy that. He just didn't think McCain was serious. Turns out he was.
Can any McCain fan or Rep. tell me why
McCain has supported legislation to give tax breaks to companies that outsource jobs?  I'm asking because I don't know.  I figured you guys have read a lot of his stuff and thought you might know off the top of your head.  I could always try to find it but am finding myself lazy tonight  and thought someone might be in the know without having to Google it.
And you think McCain is going to do any better?

What a mess!

Oh and saw on the news that this bailout will affect even the people who do live within their means because it means that the Jones' house that gets foreclosed on will reduce the amount my house is worth and therefore I lose too!  Something needs to be done and quick!

It is not fair to simply point out Obama's plans when you do not mention McCain's either.  What are McCain's plans?  All he seems to do is "knock" Obama.  Oh better consider what Palin has to say too, you know McCain is getting no younger or any healthier for that matter.
