I'm not holding my breath......sm
I'll believe Obama gives me a tax cut when it happens, as well as help out with my health insurance. Can't tell from his website how "exactly" that's going to happen. His website if filled with a whole lot of words that are meaningless to me. Sounds good, but I don't see a lot of substance there, just like when he was campaigning.

Not holding my breath, but I'll come back and tell you if either of those things happen.

Not a Republican even though I leaned towards McCain over Obama, since he's such an unknown (and still is), and I actually decided I couldn't vote for McCain either....so my vote went to neither of them.

the world is holding their breath
After 9/11 would the United States really elect a black man named Barack Hussein Obama?
You're wasting your breath
The word Palin sends them into attack mode.
Amanda, sad to say, your're wasting your breath.

There is just no getting through to these narrow-minded people.  They don't want to give him a chance, because their tiny brains have been filled with the BS that has been fed to them by the publicity-seeking egomaniacs that they worship (Lamebaugh, Coultergeist, Beck who I think is a closet Nazi, O'Reilly).  Dittoheads -- what a great name for them -- they are incapable of having an original thought of their own.  One poster on here has the nerve to say "he has had his chance".  Give me a break -- that shows nothing but ignorance.  The man has been in office less than 3 months!!

You cannot have a reasonable conversation with these types of people.  Thank you for trying, though.  You had to know you would get flamed on this one, just as I'm sure I will.  C'est LA vie.

We're just trying to catch our breath after laughing over some of the blind right posts (and W. i

And owning a gun wouldn't have help either one of them.
That's the point.
You mean owning up?.....like Nixon?

Let's see your statistics.  I'm assuming you've done a lot of research to support these claims.

As stated below, my guess is the wrong-doers are about 50 percent Republican and 50 percent Democrat.  The only thing I can see that is particularly ironic or shameful is that the Republican party generallly portrays itself as the superiorly moral, family-oriented party.

Government now owning/running U.S. car companies?
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/02/15/obama-car-czar-oversee-auto-industry/

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama plans to appoint senior administration officials -- rather than a single "car czar," as had been discussed -- to oversee a restructuring of the auto industry.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and National Economic Council Director Lawrence Summers will oversee the across-the-government panel, a senior administration official said Sunday on the condition of anonymity because no announcement had been made.

"The president understands the importance of this issue and also understands that the auto industry affects and is affected by a broad range of economic policies," the official said.

As the teams move forward, Obama "wants to make sure that we're getting the expertise and input of agencies across the government," the official said.

Obama and his aides face difficult choices on the fate of the U.S. auto industry, weighing the cost of pouring billions more into struggling companies against possible bankruptcies that could undermine plans to jump-start the economy.

General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC are racing against a Tuesday deadline to submit plans to the government. The plans are to be followed by weeks of intense negotiations ahead of a March 31 deadline for the final versions of the reports.

GM and Chrysler are living off a combined $13.4 billion in government loans. If they don't receive concessions by March 31, they face the prospect of having the loans pulled, followed by bankruptcy proceedings.

Any bankruptcy would be particularly painful, with some economists predicting the country could lose 2 million to 3 million jobs this year and the unemployment rate, now 7.6 percent, could swell past 9 percent by the spring of 2010.

In television interviews Sunday, White House senior adviser David Axelrod didn't respond directly when asked if the U.S. economy could withstand a GM bankruptcy. Nor did he directly address a question about whether the Obama administration would let GM go into bankruptcy.

"I'm not going to prejudge anything. I think that there is going to have to be a restructuring of those companies. I'm not going to get into the mode of how that happens. We'll wait and see what they have to say on Tuesday," he told "FOX News Sunday."

Executives at the two automakers have said bankruptcy is not an option because consumers would not buy cars from a company that might go out of business.

"How that restructuring comes is something that has to be determined," Axelrod said. "But it's going to be something that's going to require sacrifice not just from the auto workers but also from creditors, from shareholders and the executives who run the company. And everyone's going to have to get together here to build companies that can compete in the future."

Enter the President's Task Force on Autos. That group will use officials from the departments of Treasury, Labor, Transportation, Commerce and Energy. Members of the National Economic Council, the White House Office of Energy and Environment, the Council of Economic Advisers and the Environmental Protection Agency will also be involved, according to the administration official.

Obama also plans to name restructuring expert Ron Bloom a senior adviser to Geithner. He will not be the "car czar" pointman many labor and business leaders expected. Bloom, a former consultant to the United Steelworkers of America, will be doing much of the financial analysis for the administration.

Geithner is expected to be the only Cabinet secretary to be part of the panel, the senior administration official said. Deputy secretaries, however, would be involved.

Obama "felt it was important to have the treasury secretary as his official designee to oversee these loans," the senior administration official said.

GM spokesman Greg Martin said the company welcomed the task force.

"We expect to meet soon with this team to share GM's detailed restructuring plan to restore our company to viability and to meet the requirements of its loan agreements," he said.

The terms of the federal loans set "targets" for concessions, largely from debt-holders and the United Auto Workers union, but concession talks have made little progress with just a couple days left before the initial deadline.

Negotiations between GM and the UAW broke off Friday night but resumed Sunday, still focusing on exchanging the company's cash payments into a union-run retiree health care trust for GM stock, according to a person briefed on the talks who didn't want to be identified because the bargaining is private.

GM and UAW officials declined comment.

GM and Chrysler don't need to have everything nailed down for Tuesday's progress reports, but the companies are expected to detail concessions along with plant closures, the potential elimination of brands and thousands of job cuts.

Axelrod wouldn't say whether the administration would offer the auto industry more bailout money. GM already has borrowed $9.4 billion to stay in business, and it would receive an addition $4 billion if the Treasury Department approves its viability plan. Chrysler wants $3 billion more on top of the $4 billion it has already borrowed.

"We need to see what it is that they come up with this week," Axelrod said.
And people who had no business owning a home jumped in; not
with a gun at their head, but because of the attitude of I want what I want when I want it. I refuse to pay for LOSERS who can't manage money. Reward the irresponsible (the O way) and neglect those of us who have done the right thing, have savings in the bank, live debt free, pay our mortgage on time and live within our means. The American Way, everyone else is responsible for YOUR behavior and poor choices.
I have been holding my tongue on that ...sm
It is interesting though. These were Bush, Reagan, Ford and Clinton appointees that made this decision (5-3). And I see where the right is upset, but to me it is pivotal that they followed the law and not beliefs and I'll tell you why.

Charles Lane, writer for the Washington Times wrote (see link below), *Brushing aside administration pleas not to second-guess the commander in chief during wartime, a five-justice majority ruled that the commissions, which were outlined by Bush in a military order on Nov. 13, 2001, ***were neither authorized by federal law nor required by military necessity, and ran afoul of the Geneva Conventions.*** As a result, no military commission can try Salim Ahmed Hamdan, the former aide to Osama bin Laden whose case was before the justices, or anyone else, unless the president does one of two things he has resisted doing for more than four years: operate the commissions by the rules of regular military courts-martial, or ask Congress for specific permission to proceed differently.*

Looking at it this way, *Bush* NOT the Supreme Court, has held this up for four years when he could have done the prior one or two things. No president can just willy nilly make up things as he goes without going through the proper channels. This case is no different. Checks and balances is taught in elementary nowadays. I predict as he ways he will, he will get with Congress and they will collectively make a decision on something that will bring the POWs to justice (wishful thinking).

Do I want to see bin Laden's assistant, or any other war criminals walk? No, especially not the perpetrators in the 9-11 attacks. That's something I do not want to see come of this decision, but we must respect our own democracy in seeking justice.

This is just my opinion of what I understand is going on with the decision. If anyone can shed some more light on it I'd appreciate it. Have a good holiday weekend!
Who's holding a gun to your head? Don't like him
Simple as pie. Why spend your life being angry and posting these pathetically juvenile insults? Nothing better to do?
What's holding Edwards back?

James Montgomery, Esq. is holding a press

conference. Jesse Jackson, Jr. is "candidate #5" and he thinks Blagojevich should step aside and resign and let the Lt. Gov. take over. He states JJ, Jr. is qualified for the position.

He states JJ, Jr. is not guity of anything. He is not worried about any consequences of this except the media frenzy that is being created by this. If the meeting between the Gov. and JJ, Jr. was taped, they have no concern over it.

He (JJ, Jr.) will be speaking with the investigators on Friday or Monday. He will be holding a press conference in 15-16 minutes.

There is a picture of her in a bathing suit holding

Holding people accountable and blaming

people are 2 different things.  Blaming either party will get us nowhere.  The situation is upon us and the blame game is only holding up the resolution.

Holding people accountable may help to prevent a similar situation in the future.  Holding someone accountable means owning up to their part in the problem and making retribution to fix the problem.  If someone went along with this and gained financially from it, then that person should be accountable - own up and pay up.  If someone went along with this and gained politically, then that person should be accountable - own up and give up (your position).

I took serious offense to your comment because you didn't say it was directed to the politicians on the hill.  You said as a general statement to all dems.

so quit talking and start doing -- what's holding you

It isn't the Navy holding her child support

The federal government has rules concerning how much of someone's paycheck that you can garnish.  I personally was in the Navy (in payroll of all things) and when I went through my divorce, the court ordered a whole $325 a month for 2 kids (both in daycare at $120/week/per kid).  We were both discharged just prior to the divorce and he purposely took a job that paid $6 an hour, working 20 hours a week.  The judge, out of the kindness of his heart, based the child support on him making $6/hr at 40 hours, not the 20 he was working.  He was capable of making more, but wanted to tick me off.  BUT, you cannot garnish more than 60% of ones wages and if back support is owed, not more than 65% with the 5% going to pay off the arreage.

There are certain things that you can take into consideration when they garnish your wages (most states make it mandatory now).  In the military, they cannot include your food ration money, housing money, uniform money and whatever extras they have these days.  They can only include your base salary.  Being that military pay royally sucks, I can see where they are not handing over everything that is owed, especially if he is lower ranking.

I know it bites the big one and I feel for your daughter, being that I have been there, but she can get through it and be stronger for it.  She needs to show her kids that she can hold her head up high and trudge on.  I'll keep her in my prayers.

Oh...forum domination. Someone holding your hands behind your back....
and preventing you from posting? Or don't you have a cause you care enough about TO post?
That was not the question....Gitmo is a holding area for terrorists...
The Hanoi Hilton housed American soldiers. And yes, I think it is VERY important that a presidential candidate is a patriot, has integrity, strong in the face of unimaginable pressure, and puts his country even before himself. Yes, I think all those are VERY strong criteria for the Presidency. Obama has nothing in his resume to indicate that he is that patriotic, that UNself-serving, showed that he put his fellow prisoners above himself...and you compare that to a terrorist in Gitmo. Good grief. ??
Yep...and today he is holding a town hall in France...
yukking it up with Europe as his own country circles the drain....pittiiiffullll.
Remember Bush holding hands with Prince Abdullah???
So as far as reading anything into Obama trying to get our nation back on the right track, thank God what was here before no longer around.
Breath of fresh air
I'm new to these boards and I just have to let all of you know that your posts are a breath of fresh air to me. I'm being suffocated by rampant conservatism here in the buckle of the bible belt. So many of your sentiments echo my own, and it feels good to know that I'm not alone.
So now you are rationalizing...in the same breath...nm

For me, I won't waste my breath saying anything to you, Sam, since you are always right!!!!!
.
But we don't actually GETthem until we take a breath?
Then what happens to that soul if the someone who was supposed to get doesn't make it past the knife?
Don't hold your breath. I think the
next 4 years is going to be a sink or swim economy, and I don't think many people or companies can swim anymore. Too many are at the end of the rope and about to drown.
Don't waste your breath explaining it to them
They will only interpret everything you say as bashing. All logic is lost on some people.

I agree Obama is a breath

of fresh air and I love that he inspires people. However, I would encourage all Democrats, Independents, et al, to consider Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico. On the Democratic side, he has by far the best resume. He is a superior negotiator, served as head of the Department of Energy, sat at the UN, was an ambassador. Here is a link to his web site. It is quite lengthy, but you can scan over it and just look at the positions he has held and the things he has done.

I wouldn't hold my breath. n/m

You are also a breath of fresh air. Agree 100%.
that kind of respectful standing in the world will be taken on November 4th and we will begin that journey in earnest the day after Obama's inauguration. You can take that to the bank.
I wouldn't hold my breath.

You are wasting your breath on these pathetic
people.  They have no life, or such miserable lives that they have all the time in the world to scour the Internet for more garbage to spout, so now this is what consumes their lives.  How sad -- NOT!  The people have spoken.  If you're not happy with the outcome, then MOVE OUT OF THE COUNTRY.  Maybe you can start a revolution somewhere else.
Don't hold your breath waiting.
He already said that he can't do everything at once. "It may take a year, it may take 2 years, it may even take the first term to do it all, but it will be done".
I wouldn't hold your breath
He has no plans whatsoever to bring the troops home in 60-90 days. He is already saying they need to stay another 5 years. Not to mention all the other dangerous areas he plans to send them too once out of Iraq. Then once he gets the Civilian National Security up and running and the kids in college, etc trained they can be diverted too. Maybe he'll bring home the troops for a short LOA (leave of absence), but they will go right back.

Why do people think he needs to be president to break promises. He's already making decisions and he already has broken promises he made on his campaign trail (just to get the votes).

Broken promise #1. I will bring the troops home. - He's already said they will be there for at least the next five years. I read another article that said it won't happen until 2011, and that is from an agreement that Bush signed. So in 2011 even then Obama will not have brought them home, it will be because of Bush. If people had their minds and eyes open during the campaign they would have seen this as a clear trick to get the people to vote for him).

Broken promise 2. I will tax the rich. - He now is coming out and saying he will not tax the rich.

Broken promise 3. I will bring change to Washington. - And just how is he suppose to do that when his entire cabinet is being filled with old Clintonians. People are sick of the Bush's and Clinton's and he goes and drags back these #$%(* we were so happy to get rid of.

Broken promise 4. I will not have lobbyists in my administration. - Uh hellooooooo. There are at least 15 people in his cabinet who are lobbyists.

So, there are just 4 of his campaign promises he has broken. Has has picked his cabinet, and revealed his (no taxes for the rich) plan already and also the fact that he is not going to be bringing the troops home. Seeing as this is on camera and in writing you can say that he has broken his promises. Unless for some reason you think that on the day of his inaugeration he's going to tell all these people that he picked for his cabinet that it was only a joke and instead he's going to hire more capable people.

People are really questioning his ability to lead (and this is in other countries too), which clearly by his choices and decisions he has already made he is showing that he cannot. I just thank god Biden is in there.
Most bigots deny it til their last breath. I think that they really don't know

Save your breath. People that believe

oooh - I like poopie-breath, can I use it? LOL
You instantly brought me back to my childhood. Gave me a laugh.
I agree it's outrageous that guy is still drawing breath
He should've been tried years ago, and if found guilty should have assumed ground temperature many years ago. However, it looks like four subsequent administrations share the blame for this not just the Bush administration, but yes, more should've been done especially by the Bush administration to be sure justice was served in this case..
Don't hold your breath waiting for the fanatics
They're probably holding a blog conference on how to discredit/over-rule the Supreme Court.
Amanda, you've wasted your breath. s/m
There is not a rational thought in any of these people's heads.  They don't care about hope or the possibility of change for the better.  The ironic thing about this is that if and when Jesus Christ were to return, these kind of people would be the ones who would crucify him all over again because of the narrow-minded prejudice that seems to feed them.  More's the pity.
Rahm shouldn't hold his breath. sm
Want us to understand what it is like to be an American. Now that is funny - more like NWO slaves.
